Also when choosing between outboard positions, I think statistically they are the same. We choose behind the passenger for the most vulnerable rider just because in my mind a head on collision is a greater risk of impact to the driver's side.
I've heard that behind the driver is safe because the driver instinctively protects that side of the car? (Ok, who am I kidding, Dwight said that once on The Office and I took it as the truth.) Because I thought both sides were equal, I chose the side of convenience, which for me is behind the driver. It's easier to get out of the car and open the door directly behind me versus always circling the vehicle.. especially in the garage or other tight areas.
Car seat question: The safest place to put a car seat is in the middle seat to avoid passenger-side air bags. However, from what I have experienced, most parents put their children in a side seat. The side seat seems so much easier for getting kids in and out of the car as opposed to the middle. Does anyone here use the middle seat?
Actually, I believe most car seat techs will tell you that safest place for the car seat is wherever you can get the best install.
@Sbrown721 -- we still have our rear-facing 2+ yo in the middle. It is getting harder for me to get him in there, but we're doing it! We can't out any seat behind the driver's seat since we only have one car and at 6' 4", my DH has to have the seat pretty far back when he drives. I'm going to make an appointment with a car seat tech in August to figure out the best and safest solution for a rear-facing toddler and a rear-facing infant.
@psubecky23 true about safest being where you can get best install. Back middle is actually a more difficult install for most people b/c a lot if cars don't have LATCH there and it's a more difficult angle to tighten manually from.
My visibility is worse when having RF in middle position, so outboard seems safer in my case.
@kosmo86 my mom has been picking up the large boxes of pampers swaddlers every time she goes to SAMs club. I have 2 newborn boxes, 1 size 1 box and 1 size 2 box so far. I'm kind of wondering how many more boxes of each size I should get
Not stocking up on diapers. If people want to give me some, then we'll store those up but otherwise we'll just buy as we go. I'll definitely get a box of newborn and a box of 1's just to make sure I have SOME at the house, but otherwise we like to get out and shop, or husband will pick some up on way home from work one day.
Good point @fireflygirl12- we have accidentally bought too many of one size before and had a SUPER easy, no questions asked return experience at both Target and Sams Club.
@kosmo86 - I've been stocking since January. Between what we've bought and what we've been gifted, we have mostly size 1 diapers. We'll be stocking up a bit more newborns as well since we're having twins and it's unlikely that they'll jump right into size 1.
We currently have 22 boxes stashed away in the closet (I just moved them all upstairs so I counted). With DS and DD, we had somewhere around 30-35 boxes that were gifts and it lasted (even with 2 kids) until they were about 3 months.
Thanks everyone! I am guessing I'll end up with baby rear-facing in seat behind driver's side, but will definitely be confirming the car seat looks good with a tech before baby gets here.
@Sbrown721 We did the middle with the infant seat and then we moved her to a convertible and it wouldn't sit straight in the middle because of the 40/60 split in our bench. So now she's on the passenger side. The car seat tech said both sides are equally safe and that you won't instinctively protect your side because you're in a car and it just doesn't work that way. She said it in a much smarter, more car seat educated way haha This LO will go behind the driver seat which means...we have to trade in our car for something bigger because DH already can't sit in the passenger seat with DD1 car seat behind it because he's 6'3. So now we are on the search for a Tahoe or Yukon.
I used Palmer's cocoa butter for the first time today. I like it, although I wouldn't say it's all that different from other lotions. I love that I smell like chocolate now, though!
@skoto The tech moved our carseat to the middle as well during the carseat inspection. We had it to the passenger's side to allow more room behind the driver (neither of us are short people... I'm 5'8 and DH is 6'2). That was ultimately what made up our mind to keep it in the middle as long as we did. However, our car manual didn't contradicted what the tech had said, or that would have changed our decision.
We stocked up on diapers in size 1s and 2s with our first when we would find them on sale. We were also gifted a lot of diapers. I don't remember exactly how many we had (I feel like it was somewhere between 15-20 boxes), but we didn't buy diapers (except for when she was in newborns) until she was 6-7 months old. We did have to trade in some 1s for size 3s, but it wasn't an issue even without a receipt.
We aren't stockpiling this time because we are doing Amazon subscribe and save.
@mom2adoodle I like it a lot. It's not as cheap as getting them on sale, but it is cheaper than buying full price. For example we get 180 Pampers diapers for about the same price of Target's regularly priced 128 ct Pampers. And it just shows up on my doorstep once a month without my doing anything, which is kind of priceless to me. Also, super easy to cancel and change the subscription.
@jabreen I was using Palmer's on my belly but broke out in a rash/pimples all up and down the center of my belly and they left hyperpigmented scars everywhere (plus I'm still having the occasional pus-filled bump even now). I know the scars will fade, but it's so frustrating. I don't like looking at my belly now.
That's not to say it'll happen to you (I've clearly developed a sensitivity to it), just sharing my experience.
And for whatever reason the smell makes me sick (I used to love the smell of cocoa butter).
In other news, one of DH's coworkers called me today to let me know they're planning a surprise baby shower for him at work on Friday and to make sure I could come. I think that's so sweet of them! They've been so excited for us since finding out that I'm pregnant.
DD is theoretically potty trained! I can't believe I made it through the whole weekend without having a breakdown, but she finally did so good yesterday. She spent yesterday afternoon dancing around the house in her wonder woman underwear yelling, "me big girl, me big girl!" which is pretty much the cutest thing ever.
I apologize if this has been mentioned, I just skimmed the comments as I was pages behind!
But in regards to what side to put car seat on, we chose the middle at first and kept him there until FF. We then put him on the passengers side. We have to do a lot of street parking and I don't want to have to get my child out on the drivers side with potential traffic zooming behind me.
As far as car seats go... We always put my daughters behind the passenger seat. I'm about 6 ft tall so I didn't have enough room to drive comfortably with her behind my seat and our car manual instructed for car seats to be on either side, not the middle. That is also where our "LATCH" anchors are so I felt I could install it most safely there. Once #2 gets here I will probably move my daughters rear facing convertible seat behind the driver seat and put the infant seat behind the passenger since it takes up a little more space.
@Jabreen people constantly comment on how my daughter never stops moving ever. And I relate to them that she hasn't stopped moving since before she was born because she was constant while I was pregnant. I guess there was a brief time when life was easier when she wasn't mobile. Then she became a power crawler at six months and my life was over
I just found out today that I will be paid the first six weeks I'm out of work. This was great news considering I got gipped with DS (had him in June and we don't get paid during summer months). At first I was ridiculous and bummed about having a sept baby and my maternity leave not connecting into summer, but now I'm more than thrilled!
Well my non-parent brother wrote a Facebook post about how no single human is more important than this gorilla species.
This kind of crap (and there is so much more where that came from) is why my child does not know who Uncle Brian is. How were those hot dogs and burgers you ate over Memorial Day weekend, Brian? Did they taste as important as you?
ugh. Eye roll. His position wouldn't bother me if he walked the walk.
@camichael84 What are your thoughts/experiences with Amazon's subscribe & save?
Stuck in quote box. I know this is not directed at me, but I cannot speak highly enough about subscribe & save/ prime. I'm in it pretty deep. We get all of our paper products, sponges, water filter for the fridge, and heavy things like dog food. Easy to skip, move up, or schedule shipments. We also have an Amazon credit card which gives you 3% back in Amazon points, and it is very seamless to use.
Ditto to what @KimmySchmidt says about subscribe and save. It doesn't just save money, it saves time and sanity! We love it here and get all of our household staples that way.

The honest toddler woman summed it up really well. All of the judgment is driving me insane. It solves nothing. Doesn't bring back the gorilla or prevent the child from going in the enclosure
I missed so much but basically would just like to agree with everything that @PSUBecky23 says.
Haha, everything?! I mean, my opinions/observations are pretty spot on but I didn't think they were that awesome
Well it happens enough that most of the time I'm going to post something agreeing with someone's opinion it ends up being you and I don't want you to think I'm stalking you so I'll just go with a blanket statement.
Woke up from a nap feeling gross. Ugh. I have terrible heartburn, nausea and a bad mood overall. Yesterday and today have been off days for me, mood and symptom-wise. I'm just telling myself that I'll probably/hopefully feel better tomorrow. Yuck.
I have my oldest girl in the very back passenger side, my youngest girl in front of her... My oldest son is behind the drivers seat. When baby comes along, my older son will get moved to the very back drivers side, baby will be directly behind me.
I have avoided the gorilla topic all together, it makes me too frustrated.
@steephers123 yay! That's awesome! We haven't been training, because I basically refuse to do so until close to 3, however she's always saying she's gotta pee and has had success at daycare. I'll make an effort if she's showing real signs. I still need to get rid of her soother first.
I can't believe it's June! I did invoicing for work today, and have realized that I only have 3 more invoicing days before baby! Haha.

Seriously guys I'm about to rip my hair out. MIL is on a whole different level. What do you do when someone continues to criticize, find fault, and refuse to look at their own behavior/expectations? This is the most difficult person I have ever had to deal with and of course I'm stuck with her for life. Oy vey. Someone help!
So I found out today that DD knows the word "haunted". When asked where she heard that word, she answered, "The ghost." And then proceeded to tell DH and I that she saw the ghost coming into our house from the door to the garage. When I asked her where Mommy and Daddy were when that happened, she said we weren't there because we didn't live there anymore. And that the ghost was "scary, scary, scary."
I'm trying to remain rational but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little creeped out. Lol!
When you have two buy 2 boxes of the same cereal because DH was told I wasn't sharing.....and then the butt head goes and labels the boxes. Both boxes might end up at my desk at work tomorrow.....
