AW moment... our botanical gardens are free for maine residents all weekend. E and I met my parents there, he loved the Little Bear statue (blueberries for Sal, anyone? Or is that a maine thing?). I love this little man.
@annas930 we know blueberries for sal! I think it's mostly because my mom's name is Sally. But I grew up vacationing in NH and we loved picking blueberries My daughter loves the baby bear.
@frogdog06 the pain is definitely the worst the first time you go.
To clarify on the postpartum part, I could care less about how things look down there, but it seems to stay a lot cleaner when the blood and other gunk isn't getting all globbed up in your hair. Since its pretty much non-stop bleeding and you can only use pads obviously.

I made the comment about not being able to tell a difference regarding hair. I didn't think for a second that you (or anyone else) meant it as an aesthetic reason, and nor did I. Because who cares what the status of their pubes looks like when they are swollen and healing from tearing.
I will also clarify that I meant with squirting things off every time I went to the bathroom I didn't end up with blood or such getting stuck in my hair. And since I had to pat dry instead of wipe I didn't inadvertently pull any hair and cause extra pain. I'm all for doing what makes you the happiest and most comfortable. I guess I was just trying to add in that, for me, my pubes didn't end up being an extra nuisance.
I kept things trimmed, not shaved and aftercare wasn't so bad (i did bleed quite a bit after giving birth, so possible my amount of bleeding on the days after was less)... well aftercare was bad but the hair made no difference. The squirted warm water always rinsed it all clean.
This whole public hair discussion had me thinking 1) Ouch and I'm so sorry to ya'll that have recently accidently cut yourself down there and 2) Thank God I just gave up and asked DH to do it for me a couple of weeks ago. I felt like, after almost 12 years of marriage and two kids, there was no way I should be embarrassed to ask him. But I was horrified. He's such a nice guy thought that it didn't even phase him.
@mamadomino - Happy belated birthday!! I hope it was wonderful!
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom - I think I laughed for a good five minutes straight at your b-day gif!!
I'm not even remotely phased in asking my husband to help me with grooming down there. Probably because I asked him pretty regularly pre-pregnancy (with hard to reach spots).
We've been together for almost 16 1/2 years (married for just shy of 11; our anniversary is in less than a week), though, so I'm so used to having him around that he's like an extension of me.
I wish I could do the waxing thing, as awkward as I imagine it being to have some stranger ripping hair off your privates. I have super sensitive skin that I know would freak the hell out if I tried ripping hair out of it, though (even shaving is a nightmare), so I just trim things down short with DH's electric razor/trimmer.
I think there just be a "total sleep achieved" threshold in our home. If I sleep terribly, LO does great. If I'm having a good sleep night, he is bound to have a hard time. Anyone else have this happen? It's so frustrating!
I've had a totally productive morning waiting for the kids to wake up. Laundry folded, dishwasher emptied, trash out, Starbucks run, and now enjoying my own breakfast without sharing a single bite!
It's a random thread so... My two year old slept through the ENTIRE night & pooped in the potty for the first time!! Thank the Lord!! It's a Christmas Miracle!!
@Sporty1216 I faced that problem last night when I woke up @3am to pee and couldn't fall back to sleep til 530. LO was not active at all yesterday but decided to do somersaults in the wee hours of the morning. Everyone else in the house was sleeping soundly, however.
I got the news today I failed my one hour glucose test and I have to go tomorrow for the two hour test. I am a little scared... I know you can fail the one hour and still pass the two hour and really hope I do, but until I get the results now I am stressed out I just want my baby to be okay.
On top of it all I was trying to ask the nurse for how long I need to fast, but she kept saying "nothing after midnight"... I was trying to tell her that I fall asleep around 4am and wake up around 12pm-1pm so I wanted to know how long, because I cannot spend that long with no water. But all I got was a stubborn "nothing after midnight" As if midnight was some kind of magical time -_- Anyone here know the amount of time you actually have to fast to take the test? She said I could go in right as it opens at 8 am so I am thinking 8 hours total would be okay... I won't eat, but I need water for those few hours before I sleep.
Sorry for the rant.

@Alyeena - For A1C tests, 8 hours is fasting. Plain water is fine. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong since I've never had to do the pregnancy glucose tests but assume that they're the same as an A1C for a diabetic.
@Alyeena definitely still drink water!! 8 hours of fasting will be sufficient. I even brought a water bottle to mine and drank water throughout the test.
I was just lurking the Dec 2016 forum and realized some of them are almost in the 2nd trimester! That makes it seem like time is going much faster. It seems like I've been pregnant forever but that makes it feel like we are kind of close to the end
It's been an amazing 3 day weekend seeing family and going o adventures, unfortunately my husband has worked every day. I am tired and sore... almost looking forward to work tomorrow where I won't be chasing and lifting 25 lbs of toddler, then I'm off on Wednesday with little man again!! This pregnancy is certainly flying though, nearly down to 3 month countdown!
@seitzy3@camichael84@fireflygirl12@RedMar Sorry to ask a question and disappear for the weekend! Thanks for the travel and shower etiquette advice. I think I'll definitely go with the casual mention tactic to feel out what they're thinking. For now, I've left them off the invite list to the out-of-town shower, too. As for travel, I think we settled on letting my parents babysit for the weekend while DH and I fly down for the wedding. I know the in-laws will be sad that LO isn't there, and who knows if I'll still want to do it this way once LO is actually here, but right now it seems like the most practical solution.
@Alyeena Here are the instructions I received from my doctor regarding having to take the three hour OGTT...I'm super bummed/annoyed that I failed the one hour as well! :[
"Here are the instructions for the 3 hour glucose tolerance test:
This test must be done between 7am and 9am. If you decide to do the test over the weekend, please call 800-xxx-xxxx to schedule appointment.
Please follow the instructions for having your blood drawn.
Have half a sandwich with a glass of milk or small piece of fruit between 10pm and 12 midnite (REQUIRED).
Fast at least 8 hours and no more than 10 hours (water okay) No chewing gum or smoking during the fasting hours. This lab test takes 3-4 hrs to complete. Please bring a light snack with you so that you can have it after the testing is completed.
At the lab: First a fasting blood sample taken when you arrive. 100 gram glucose drink given. Blood samples will be drawn 1, 2, and 3 hours after the drink is taken. Remember: No smoking or chewing gum. Remain seated while doing the test.
Take care, and let me know if you have any further questions or concerns."
Thank you for all your answers, I will eat around midnight or so, then just drink some water before bed. Thankfully I just have to drive 5 mins to the blood lab and not go all the way downtown to the hospital I am followed at, since it's over an hour.
I am sorry @frogdog06 that you failed the one hour test too Hope you pass the three hour one! I will be thinking about you. I guess it is weird that for me it will only be two hours, but the nurse said the same one fasting sample, one a one hour and then two hour mark.

DH just got to feel baby girl move for the first time!! She was moving around a ton, and much higher than usual, and its actually the first time I've felt her so clearly on the outside too. He was so excited!! Ah, my heart
@lovelylauren86 I'm convinced it's solely for camera purposes and they eat it after filming is done lol. Eating on camera doesn't seem romantical enough for the Bachelor LOL
Hello S16 ladies! I've been MIA for the last week as I've actually had to work (gasp!) during working hours. It was a total bummer. So happy for the baby updates and hope everyone had a good long weekend.
My random - I was working in our satellite office last week, and am currently back in my normal/head office. Here we've taken a new approach on trying to cut costs by upping the temp the thermostat is set at. My office feels like a sauna! It doesn't seem like much, but going from 72 to 74 is huge!
@MrsVoorhees- RIGHT?! I remember saying at a company meeting "Ooh, that happens in May and it's almost that time" and people just looked at me blankly saying "Anna, it's May 2. May is here" ... wasn't that last week!?!? Time can keep on flying for all I'm concerned!
I am just getting caught up after not being online all weekend. We stayed home and went to various bbq's and enjoyed our neighborhood pool. DS (18 months) really likes the pool. He wants to be able to move more independently in the water so we decided that it is time for more swim classes. We have done the parent & child level 1 swim classes with him a couple times over the past year. It is geared towards just getting the baby comfortable in the water - a lot of singing as the parent moves them around. We just signed him up for Level 2 where they introduce floaties (puddle jumpers). We saw another little boy moving around quite well in the pool with his floaties so I am excited to see how well DS does.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! I got the greatest news. DH is actually getting 4 whole days off this weekend. This hasn't happened in about 7 years (besides off season). Do you know how excited I am?!?! We planned a last minute beach trip and leave this Friday!! Although 5 hours in the car with two dogs and two toddlers doesn't sound the best, my excitement just trumps everything. Cheers to a mini vacay! Time to go shopping
@seitzy3- pssh, 5 hours out of a 4 day weekend? It'll be nothing... I dread travel and it usually turns out better than expected (granted we leave the dog at home and only have 1 mini-toddler!) hahaha. That's really fantastic news, happy for you guys!!
Just coming back after a long weekend away from TB so I haven't caught up yet so forgive me if someone has already brought this up in the last day or so...
But I was lying in bed last night doing the math and realized, as of yesterday, I (and any other 9/1 Mommas) have officially entered third trimester!!! Ummm...what...? Where has the time gone!?
I finally got a good watermelon! I've eaten so much of it already. DH picked it out, so he's smug that he knows how to pick a good melon.
Saturday night, baby girl was kicking moving around a ton. DH got to feel it all. He was amazed because he hardly was able to feel McKenna kick. It was awesome to see his reaction, and made me feel like he and DD2 are starting their bonding.
Got a good deal on some clothes for the girls and myself with Memorial Day sales at Carters and Motherhood Maternity.
Didn't get as much done in the nursery as I wanted, but the garage is ready to start moving storage. Plan on doing that tonight, and will start going through baby clothes when McKenna goes down for her nap! We did get our paint samples and picked out carpet for the nursery.
@JennM205- Right? I'm at 26 weeks now, so another week and I'll be with ya. I was visiting my grandmother this weekend and she said "So you must be what.. 4 or 5 months pregnant already?" I nodded and then said "I've got about 3 months to go" 26 weeks is half a year, so that's more like 6 months pregnant. Time is a-flying.
@Megan324- I think pregnancy is a good time to pick up a craft. A. you've got motivation and a target audience - baby hats are a super easy place to start. and B. it's good to have something that takes up time and makes it move quickly. I had a few projects I REALLY wanted to complete before baby came, so when I had 4 weeks left last time, it could have felt long but was more like "Woah.. I have 4 weeks, while working full-time, to get this quilt and these hats done!"
My guest room, which will be baby's room, still looks like a guest room. The room that will be the guest room still looks like the room where everything goes to die. I've bought exactly nothing for this baby. Yay second baby syndrome.
Preggo coworker is firmly in the camp of "Blame the parents for the unnecessary death of the gorilla" ... of course she is. I'm not trying to stir up a huge debate but here's the thing - everyone is a perfect parent before they've had a child. I don't know how long the kid was unsupervised/how long it took him to get into the enclosure but he never should have been able to. Toddlers/young kids get away SO FAST! It's tragic that the gorilla had to be killed.. but the innocent child lived!! The child/parent/zoo made a mistake, they don't deserve to die for that and the stance she's taking makes it sound like the child should have been sacrificed. Ugh.
