  • That is great @cmm012! I wish you a speedy recovery.

My suppression check showed everything looking normal so I am happy I am still on track for starting my stims Monday. I am doing the injections myself but know that it will probably take some time to work up to actually being able to do it lol. My DH is out of town so I am having my Mom come for moral support   Thanks everyone for the tips- love the idea about putting each days meds in a little baggie all ready to go. @mtpbadger

    Let's do this!!! :)

  • @chicandbubbly the first night was definitely the worst just getting up the nerve and second guessing that you are doing everything correctly. Just remember, if our REs didn't trust us to be able to do it at home and do it correctly, we wouldn't be. The needles aren't as big as they seem and aren't that painful. It's more the mental aspect of actually poking yourself. But you got this!! Just count to three, take a deep breath and go! It'll be over before you know it and you'll say to yourself "ok that wasn't so bad!"

I got the green light to start my FET cycle. I am excited but also nervous!
@BlueEyedDreameryour protocol seems very diff than mine.  I do bc for at least 3 weeks then start Lupron and estrace then do patches PIO and crinone after transfer.  Transfer wont be till mid july!!
my dr recommends 2 to be transferred this time.  How about you?
Good luck with you June 4th transfer itll be here so soon!! Yay!

  • @lin681 I'll be on BCPs for 3 weeks for my FET as well. I'm a little jealous of some of these ladies that will have theirs at the beginning of June! Mine is currently scheduled for 06/30. I'll be doing delestrogen and PIO prior/after transfer. It seems there is a lot of variety in FET protocol! Even more so than for ER.
  • @lin681 I'm so glad you got the green light to get started! My protocol for #2 is different than it was for #1, too. What's really weird is that both of us will be transferring exactly 3 years after our last successful transfers (me in June and you in July). Maybe that's a sign of good luck!!! <3

For round 1, I started Lupron on day 21, waited for AF, continued Lupron and added e-patches, then stop Lupron and started PIO + suppositories beginning 5 days before transfer.

This time around they are using Ganirelix to suppress instead of Lupron because it acts more quickly, and we wanted to go straight into another cycle without waiting for another AF. So I am on e-patches now, will start Ganirelix around Day 9, then stop Ganirelix and start PIO + suppositories beginning 5 days before transfer. They said the success rate is very similar with this protocol (around 50%) but that it gets things going more quickly!

@mtpbadger good to know someone else is on bcp too. I hate them. They make me so emotional and I have no patience!

@blueeyeddreamer your protocol sounds great. The quicker the better! How many are you transferring?
i had a long metric w RE Yest looks like we are sticking w same protocol as last cycle but transferring 2 instead of 1.
And yes so cool we are both transferring almost 3 years to the date. I feel it is a good sign :)
I find out my date today.

@lin681 We are transferring 1 embryo again. I will still have 4 frosties left after this cycle (2 great quality, 2 so-so), so we may change things up if this one doesn't stick.

@Sunflower5678 Welcome and good luck with your cycle!

For those wondering how to keep track of all the meds... What worked for me was to keep all the information in one place. When I was going through IVF, I had a journal that I would have with me during all appointments and phone calls. I used it to write down all dosage changes and all medications I administered. That way, I had it all written down in one place with the most up-to-date info at my fingertips.

I also organized all my meds in one place (actually DH did this part, and we used a kitchen cabinet). My clinic suggests that you take inventory of everything once a week (preferably Wednesday or Thursday) so that you can order refills before the weekend if necessary.

Sending good luck to everyone! Keep the updates coming! :)

  • @Tusername when is your FET scheduled for?  Bet you are getting excited!

@stranzm wishing you luck on your house sell...sounds like you don't need that extra stress right now!  Sorry your dh has to go through that too:(

@cmm012 when is your FET scheduled for?  I hear ya about AF...just bought another box of pads today and thought about it hopefully being my last pad purchase for awhile!

AFM AF started a few days ago so I went in this morning for my FET baseline.  Everything looks good so I will start Estrace oral tablets 3x a day and then in a few weeks move to progesterone suppositories (yuck!) and then have the FET done.  I'm excited to get the process done but am also glad I waited because after mild OHSS and 33 eggs my body needed to recover!

Fluid was drained this afternoon. I'm feeling a little better. The procedure was not fun. The doc drained my abdominal cavity through a vaginal needle with no anesthesia. Ladies- please avoid overstimulation.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 sorry you're joining us but so happy to have you here with your organization. This chart is amazing! I have such a hard time keeping up so this will be great.

OMG I'm already nervous, stressed, excited, and so on for my IVF in July; we've been waiting for it since the Fall. Well this morning I was opening yesterday's mail and I have a jury summons for smack dab in the middle of my treatment! Of course I called my RE first thing this morning and left a message to see if he could write a note to excuse me but im so nervous that they'll say that it's not medically necessary. Has anyone gone through this?!

@cat4151 welcome! Hopefully that blast will be the one!

AFM - I'm waiting for a call from my doc on Monday to see what he has to say about what our next step is. I'm going to give him two options: either I start a normal FET protocol now (2-3 weeks of bcps, then Lupron/Estrace) or I'm going to take the rest of the bcps I have (about 2 weeks worth) to make sure I get a period in a decent amount of time and then we start a protocol with no bcps first. It sounded like, from what my nurse told me on Friday, that my doc wants to wait another cycle, which for me could be 3 months, before we start FET stuff with a cycle of bcps. Sorry, but there is no medical reason to do that, and I'm paying him, so we're doing what I want.

This process can be so damn frustrating.

  • @lilmissslp Something similar happened to me last cycle. My treatments take place about 5 hours from where I live, and my DH had a summons for jury duty right in the middle of the cycle. I really wanted him to be there, especially for the transfer. The RE wrote a letter, and the court took him off the jury duty list for the next several months, no problem. You definitely don't need the added stress of trying to juggle jury duty with everything else you will have going on. I hope that you can get it taken care of!

Thank you @Lin681. I am resting, but I feel much better. I'm a little dehydrated, but I can breathe much better and have less pain.

  • @cmm012 I'm sad to read you've been experiencing OHSS  My doctor warned me I'm at risk for this as well, which concerns me because the clinical trial I'm doing requires a 5 day fresh transfer... Anyway, I hope you feel better really soon! *cyberhugs*

  • hi..my first post here, i have been lurking for a couple days now and see you guys are all a great support for each other.  so i am in the middle of my first ivf due to hubbies low count.  he was put on clomid by a urologist (who was an a$$) then a second urologist said that was a bad decision in his condition but will keep him on it anyways so we dont screw things up further.  I started bcp 4/30, lupron on 5/8 and gonal-f on 5/19 with my first u/s tomorrow morning.  things so far are going as i expected.  i decided to start acupuncture after i found a great groupon in my area and feel that has helped me soooo much even before i started with bcp so that the hormones have seemed to not throw me for an emotional ride as they have previously.  i highly recommend acupuncture :)  so thats my brief story.

Hello @rmarble23 . Thanks for posting. I'm sorry about your DHs problems with the urologist. You are definitely in the right place. I also started acupuncture, and I really like it. It's my favorite part of the week. I hope your first scan goes well tomorrow.

  • @cmm012  thanks :)  thankfully that urologist left the practice and we never have to see him again.

with acupuncture i never expected it to do the things it has done for me.  i was so stressed with work and ttc and i have been going to now for 2 months, it temporarily helped with my acne (until i started bcp :( ) and i am so much better with taking things in stride now which i soo needed.

question for you ladies....how open are you with your family? my close family is aware of whats going on but i stopped updating them a couple months ago so they dont know we are in the process of an ivf cycle.  i feel guilty for not telling them, especially my mom, but if things fail i dont want to have to share that i only want to share success.  but yet everyone at work knows b/c working with an office full of ladies its hard to keep secrets.  what have you guys done?

  • Hi! I'm new here and it was recommended that I jump on this thread, as we start our first round of IVF soon (meds start in June, egg retrieval in July and FET is in September - assuming we have at least one embryo). I've been reading through this thread and while I don't have much to contribute yet, I hope too soon :) My prayers go out to those who are having a tough time with IVF and life, in general. It seems like a great support outlet. I'm pretty much clueless to the med names, acronyms, etc - I'm sure I'll catch up soon but my apologies in advance. With all of that being said, DH and I are ready for the roller coaster we're about to take (I think!). Blessings to all. xo

    Me: 43 DH:43
Me: FSH levels all over the place, pre-menopausal
    Him: Low count & motility
    Meds start - Lupron until 6/23, Cetrotide started 6/24, Gonal-F starts 7/1
First ultrasound 6/24 shows 8 follicles with some possibly hiding
    Egg Retrieval - Between 7/9-7/22
IVF #1 canceled due to poor response - 7/12
    Figuring out next steps
  • @rmarble23 I would love to do acupuncture! But with shelling out 20k for IVF I feel like I can't afford it.
Close family and friends know. When they ask, I feel like I have to tell them. I wish ppl didn't know for the same fear. If it doesn't work, I don't want to have to tell them :-(. Definitely is a little added pressure.

  • Hmmm.... @wifeinraleigh28  I tried to update/correct my info on your spreadsheet, but it says it is view only...

We are doing our FET probably in early July (my period is currently 8 days overdue, so that will push us out of our end-of-June original plan).   We are not using donor eggs--I have one embryo from April 2013 that we are using, and my sister is working on an ER cycle for an attempt at baby #2 or in the event that our FET fails.

So.  Retrieval date was 4/13; transfer date now July.
Me: Age 38  Husband: Age 39
    Chemo killed my ovaries
Currently:1 female embryo frozen at blastocyte stage, graded 6AA with a BRCA1 mutation
    4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R
    Now planning FET 7/6/16
Also starting ER in June (my sister is donating eggs), and will try for a boy/second pregnancy
  • @lilmissslp i thought the same thing especially when i just quit my second job but i found a great groupon for half price and found out he uses a sliding scale which means i pay what i want between $20-60 per session.  he understands everyone has stuff and his goal is to keep you coming back so if some weeks i cant pay much i can choose to do $20 but when i can afford it i pay him more. my acupuncturist doesn't but some are covered by insurance plans too

Hi @OCfortythree ! I'm glad you are here. Please let us know how we can support you.

In regards to people, by mom and sister are the only people that get full updates. Other people know we are doing fertility generally but don't know details. Once you get into egg retrievals and creating embryos, conversations can be more challenging. People also have their own misconceptions, fears, and biases which can be uncomfortable. Things are complicated enough trying to get my mom and sister to understand everything, but they still get confused sometimes. My two cents.

  • @rmarble23 wow sounds like you have a great acupuncturist! There more weeks until I'm off of work for the summer and then I'm heading to the beach so hopefully that will help relax me.
