Ryan James, born 1:15am Friday, May 13, by c-section, 7lbs. 11oz., 21 inches and a heck of a lot of hair! As of this past Wednesday, he was already 11 days late, and the amniotic fluid was getting pretty low, so my OB decided to admit me for induction that night at 8pm. They began to administer the pitocin at around 10pm and then came and broke my water at 2:30am which lead to super intense contractions that basically overlapped one another and didn't give me a minute to regain my breath. I opted for the morphine- which didn't do jack except make me feel high- so they gave me the epidural. By about 6am Thursday, the upped the petocin, which wound up dilating me to around 7cm- but it also wound up decelerating LO's heartbeat, so they lowered it again. By around 5pm I was fully dilated so they lowered the epidural. At about 7pm we started to push which was incredibly hard because my legs were about a thousand pounds and still very numb. We waited to start pushing again till around 9:30pm, legs and lower body were still numb so again, it was super hard to push. By about 10:30pm the epidural had worn off that I could feel the contractions- but not enough so I could feel my lower body and legs. By 11pm I was in so much pain that could barely push and i couldn't breathe. We still tried but LO's head just wasn't getting any lower- so a little after midnight we decided to go with the c-section. Even though the pain was horrific, I was beyond thrilled to finally hold my little guy this morning, he is adorable and the DH and I love him so very much
Jacqueline Lily was made her debut May 11 at 37+4. She is a tiny 6lb1oz and 18.5" With the help of Daddy, I was able to do her first official photoshoot. Birth story to follow.
Elizabeth Marie Was born on 5/14/16 at 9:09 PM. She weighed in at 8 lbs even and was 21.5 inches long.
We arrived at the hospital at 6:30 AM Saturday morning and began pitocin around 8. It was a long day. We didn't begin pushing until 8:45 PM but she came fast once I did. I have a second degree tear but 7 hours after delivery I'm still benefiting a bit from the epidural and not feeling any pain. My little girl is extremely strong willed already and loves to nurse. Including comfort suckling. We're using a nipple shield right now which I hope to move past soon but it's helping ensure we get a good latch.
Charlotte Elizabeth born at 10:15 am on 5/15. Labor began around 3:45 am, was 6 cm when we arrived to the hospital. Quickly had an epidural and was able to rest for about two hours. Charlotte was out after just 20 minutes of pushing! Such a different experience than my long and difficult first labor. We are so in love with our new little one!
Lillian Monroe was born at 8:30 on 5/14 after being in labor for close to 30 hours. We are so happy she's here. A favorite moment was when I got to pull her out myself and place her on my chest:)
I'm a little late posting this but it was a whirlwind delivery and follow on week that was full of highs and lows both physically and mentally. I will write a more detailed birth story about the delivery and the first few days later but here is the quick version.
Annabelle Rose was born on 5/10 at 6:02 pm at 39 weeks and 2 days via c-section. After having normal BPs my entire pregnancy, it shot up the night prior and was getting un-controllable ~5 hrs into my induction. My Ob recommended an immediate c-section (wasn't considered an emergency but I was in the OR within 45 min) and out came little Annabelle. DD1 and DD2 are absolutely in love with her and DH and I are enjoying our time as a family of 5.
Aniyah Jenaé Anikę was born on 5/14 at 6:14am. Labor started Friday in the am with cramping. The cramping progressed throughout the day until I went to the hospital around 6pm. Munchkin was laying oblique and we were told her position would not allow her to pass through my pelvis. Since she wasn't handling contractions well, a c-section was ordered a little before 6 am. 14 minutes later she was born! She is my greatest achievement and light of my world.Daddy is already wrapped around her finger!
DS was born 5/15 after 13 1/2 hours of labor. My water broke spontaneously in the wee hours of the morning and contractions followed soon after. I was a solid 5 cm upon being admitted. I started out as a natural birth, but after stalling at 8 cm for several hours, added both an epidural and pitocin to get things moving.
I pushed five sets of times before LO arrived and had second degree tears.
DS is 8 lb 9 oz and 21 3/4 in. He's a little fussy to get started with feedings, but does very well once we get going. DH and I are both very happy.
Heidi Ellen Brown born Friday, May 13th at 12:25 am. I was induced at 39 weeks due to preeclampsia. Labor lasted 12 hours total and she is worth every second. I am recovering from an episiotomy and breastfeeding is tough for both of us but we are making small strides every day. She is the first grandchild on both sides do she has lots of fans. I fall more in love with her every second. It's all so very worth it, mommas!
"Eli" Elliott Carter born Tuesday, May 10th at 7:35AM. 9lbs 3oz, 21.5 inches. The delivery was so much worse than what I thought it was going to be and I really had been fearing the delivery the entire pregnancy. I was induced on Monday due to GD and being past full term. We got there at 6:30AM and got me hooked up to the IV stuff which since I'm a needlephobe was a big deal for me. My dr came in around 7:30 and said I was still at 2cm, 70% effaced which was what I'd been at the last 2 weeks. I told her I didn't feel ready for all of it, but she had been telling me the last few weeks that Monday, May 9th was the latest she would let me push out the induction for. Well, then she tells me that I could wait until Thursday, I was like no I'm here and hooked up to my IV, so I guess let's do this..So she did cervadil twice for me. At 3pm, I was dilated to 4cm and she decided to break my water. They also started me on pitocin (which I feared). At 6pm I asked for pain meds, so they did 2 rounds of that and said they would become less effective if I kept doing those and suggested the epidural. So I went with doing the epidural. The anesthesiologist was an arrogant jerk and ended up having issues putting in the epidural. It took 7 tries and then he ended up going too far with the epidural and gave me a spinal block. This caused my BP to have issues and I couldn't see straight and was numb from the neck down. I really wish at that point they had just done a c-section. At some point the epidural wore completely off and I asked for more and they gave me one boost. I got further along and it wore off again pretty quickly and then the nurse told me she didn't think the anesthesiologist would approve it. She wouldn't even call him at first, it took me screaming, crying and writhing in pain for her to call and even ask which was completely ridiculous and made me really angry. At that point, apparently both the anesthesiologists were in surgeries and I had to wait. They finally came and were very hesitant to give me another boost, fearing it would end up being a full spinal block again. I labored down for a little bit, but didn't want the epidural to fade away while pushing, so then I felt ready to rock and push (I was finally 10cm), and pushed for over an hour, the epidural completely wore off and I ran completely out of steam. I begged for any pain meds or another epidural boost or to go into c-section and they refused to do anything for me. After making no progress pushing for a bit, they called the anesthesiologist to see if I could get a boost so I could labor down for another hour. He was super pissed about it and told me if he gave me it he was not going to do a c-section or give me more after that one. They actually let me labor down for 2 hours and then I pushed for another 45 min and finally out he came. I asked my dr if she could help with the vacuum or forceps and she refused to use either on me. She claimed the risks of these methods were too high, which she had never mentioned to me prior that she had issues with these tools/process. Thankfully his heartbeat was steady throughout the entire delivery. I had a 2nd degree tear and the stitches hurt when they were doing them despite numbing the area. I then had some postpartum hemorrhaging for a bit, so I was kept up for several hours while they were getting that under control. Due to how horrible the delivery was, I've decided I'm not birthing any more children (maybe go the surrogacy route or adopt if we want to do another). Everyone has been like, no just wait a bit and you'll forget how bad delivery was. Yeah, NO. I'm really sad the delivery wasn't better. Eli was doing good initially with breastfeeding and now he's been doing horrible. He fights doing it and consequently he lost 14% of his birth weight, so we've been having to drive an hour daily to the pediatrician. I didn't think I'd need a breast pump right away, but with him not breastfeeding I did need one. So I'm using a manual pump until my electric arrives in the mail. It takes an hour to do breastfeeding b/c I try to feed him by breast 1st (dr said to pump for a few seconds before having him latch), then pump breastmilk when I'm done with my breastfeeding attempt, then give him formula if he's still hungry. My husband has to help me breastfeed because Eli is so difficult to breastfeed, he thrashes around and won't stay latched. Eli is super cute and we love him so much. My husband has been amazing so far with helping with everything and pays lots of attention to both of us. I know I definitely could not do this without him. He's been much more confident than me with handling everything.
Camille James was born at 3:53 pm on Monday, May 16th - 40 weeks, 1 day. It was fast, furious, intense, and above all else, beautiful. She is 8 lbs 2 ounces of pure delicious. I'm slightly annoyed at how perfect she is because I am laying in this hospital bed unable to sleep because of my full heart. Or maybe the massive throbbing? Pics to come, birth story to come, only because I'm still in shock of how surreal the experience was! Congrats to everyone - the bad just gets so good so fast...
Pollie Jean was born Msy 16 at 3:16 via c-section after not being able to stay down past the pelvic bone during regular induction. Birth story to come!
Alexander Deats was born this morning via c-section, weighing 2,94kg (6 pound something). He is in observation which is breaking my heart, but apparently he is doing well. Just lazy. He is perfect and has his daddy's chin.
Team green turned blue. Jack James born May 13th at 11:09 pm. After a failed 2nd epidural and a total of 6 hours of pushing he came naturally and healthy. We love him so much and love the natural Mohawk his hair does. We're home and doing great.
Sam Oliver and Alice Tricia were born today within minutes of 1pm. He's 8.1# 21.5" and she's 7.4# 20"!!! The c section went well, weirdest feeling experience ever. I was up and walking as soon as I could feel my legs and it wasn't as painful as I expected. Alice is a champion eater, knew just what to do. Sam is stubborn about opening his mouth, but he does well once I get the boob in there. Thankfully neither of them are biters like their brother was (so far).
The he spinal block left me super itchy all over and my abs are sore. My husband has been incredible, very attentive to the babies.
Ivan was born 5/13 at 3:40am via c-section. I went into labor early Thursday morning at 40w 5d and labored all day/evening at the hospital. There were issues with the epidural and he was face up. We tried some positions to turn him with no luck. I pushed for 2 1/2 hours with little progress. It was a welcome relief to get a c-section, I was so exhausted and in pain! He was 10lb 14oz and 22" long, so I don't think I would have been able to deliver him vaginally.
My husband has been AMAZING - learning how to take care of all his needs while I was stuck in bed for a couple days. Breastfeeding is going OK., supplementing with formula. We are very much in love with his sweet face.
Baby girl born May 17 at 4:45pm weighing 7 lbs 6 oz. Epidural birth with second degree tear (she ended up coming out face up), but I'm not feeling too bad. Still deciding on a name!
Ok, so I'm a little late but Evelyn Leia was born on 5/22 at 7:22 pm via c-section. Lost my mucus plug around 1:15 am, water broke at 2:30 am and were admitted to the hospital around 3:30. Dr came to see me around 8- my contractions weren't very strong or regular so there was no rush- after she did a cervical check and it was painful I decided yes, give me the drugs. So I got my epidural and laid in bed through the contractions until about 6 when they finally admitted baby girl wasn't going to move out of the position she was in- which was diagonally so eventually each contraction was pushing her against my hip- which BTW the epidural does nothing for. So a c-section it was- she came out at 8 lb 10 oz, and 21.5 inches long. We're doing bottle feeding with pumped milk because she has a lazy latch and is a pain about it- but she's slowly gaining back the weight that she lost while we were in the hospital. We are so in love it's amazing. I'll admit I'm not the best about this whole relaxing to heal thing- but my hubby is amazing and is doing pretty much everything to try to force me to relax and heal.
Emily Morgan was born at 6:50pm on May 17th, one day shy of her due date. She weighed 8lbs, 7 oz, and was 20.5 inches long. She's got her dad's hair and my blue eyes, and both of our hearts.
Miss Evelyn was born 5/14 at 3:18 am after I was induced for high blood pressure. She was 8 lb 1 oz and 21.5 inches long.
My induction with cytotec started Friday afternoon. They gave me 3 doses and I had only dilated to 2cm. They said after the third dose they would either give me pitocin or try to break my water. Luckily, my water broke on its own a little after midnight at 3cm. Things progressed pretty quickly after that! I made it to 7cm before breaking down and getting the epidural. Around 3 I felt the need to push. I pushed through 3 contractions and she was born at 3:18! It was a much better induction experience than my first and I'm so glad I was able to avoid pitocin.
Gerald "Micah" IV was born on 5/18 at 8:57 pm via vaginal delivery at 37w4d. He weighs 8lb and 7oz, and this mama is glad he didn't make it to full term because I may have had to push out a 10 pounder.
Also, if you remember my name dilemma, we compromised by picking a different middle name than DH's given one, but still consider him the fourth.
David Spencer was born at 1248 pm on Monday, 5/16. He weighed 6 lbs 3 oz and is 19.75 in long. Labor was very fast, started while I was teaching....made it to the hospital by 11, attempted the epidural and he decided it was time and the drugs weren't happening. 3 pushes and he was out. All of us are so in love!
Jocelynn-Marie joined us this morning at 1:10am. She was 6lbs 7oz and 18 1/2 inches long.
We arrived at the hospital at 1146pm and I was 7-8cm. I quickly progressed to 10. The doctor had to break my water as it just wouldn't rupture on its own, and then 4 pushes later we were meeting our baby girl. It was fast, and very intense! I yelled quite a bit But it was worth every stabbing pain! She nurses like a champ and seems to be an easy going baby. DH and I are so in love.
Abigail Jaide was born May 17 at 1:17am. 8.4lbs 20in long. My water broke at 9am on the 16th but me being a first time mom I didn't think much of the little bit of leakage. Just called my doc to see what I needed to do. They called me back at 11am and told me to head to the hospital and get it checked. Before leaving for the hospital I knew this was it bc the leak turned to a gush. Sure enough they admitted me. I was dialation to a 1 and by the time I got a room I was a 3 still with no pain so I waited on the epi. I finally stared to feel something at a 4 so I got the meds and they had me lay on a peanut ball to soften my cervix. Within an hour I was a 8 and in the next 30 mins I was a 10. Started pushing at 12:30am and she was out 45 mins later!! The craziest thing I've ever experienced in my life! But also the best. We are getting the hang of breastfeeding, has not been as easy as I hoped for. But today was better than yesterday. My husband is so in love he already treats her like a queen. Couldn't have asked for a better labor coach and partner thru this whole thing.
Elizabeth Kathleen "Elli" was born 5/16 at 12:58 AM. She was 7 lbs 15.7 oz and 20 in long. I was induced Sunday night since my blood pressure was creeping up. Started pitocin at 9 AM and got up to 5 cm until they figured out she wasn't pushing on my cervix. We shifted positions and within 2 hours I was at 10 cm. They called my doctor who said I could do practice pushes. Since my son was born in 3 contractions I said I didn't want to. Turned out to be good because she was born in 2 contractions and 7 pushes. After some jaundice issues we are finally home. Big brother is totally in love.
Super late on this, but it's been nuts! As I'm sure it's been for everyone. But apparently I am less adept at internetting one-handed while nursing than some of you ladies:)
Baby Joe was born May 3, at 7pm after about 24 hours of labor. My first clue that I was in labor was that I began having contractions 3 minutes apart for about a minute each time. Totally skipped past that whole 5-1-1 rule. But of course, my water never broke and I didn't dilate at all, so I had to just sit there and contract for six hours before they actually admitted me (wouldn't send me home because of the timing of my contractions). At first it wasn't so bad, just couldn't really walk or breathe during them, but by the time they admitted me (dilated a whopping 2 cm) the pain was so bad that my muscles were involuntarily shaking even between contractions. I have never been in so much pain--thank goodness for epidurals!!
Got the epi at 3am, and labor slowed and I got hypertension, so I got pitocin and got ready to push; after two pushing sessions and some laboring down, Joe arrived, 8lbs 9oz, 22" and with the hiccups.
He is adorable and we are in love. Also totally in over our heads, but he's worth it;)
Cordelia Rae was born May 19th @ 9:02 pm. 7 lb 1 oz, 19 in long. 12 days early which compensated for my son's 12 day late arrival I guess. Story and pics to come-- this phone severely sucks...as does back labor
Little miss Nella Jeanette was born Monday May 16, 2016 at 11:28pm! She was a completely natural home and water birth with a very experienced certified midwife attending; after 32 hours of labor. The short version of her birth story: I went into labor at about 2:30pm on Sunday. I had a tilted cervix which had to be manually pulled forward a few times before it stayed, a cervical lip that had to be pushed up three times before baby was past it, she was trying to come out with her head tilted so again my midwife corrected that and finally she was able to crown. However she has a large head so it was a few hours longer before she came into the world. We got to breastfeed right away in the water leaning on my H. She is the perfect baby and we love her so much!!!!
Leonie Maria was born on May 17th, 7.19 am, with 7lbs 38 oz by 19" at 39+6 weeks.
I was in labour for two days, it started with mild-ish contractions, that were strong enough to keep me from sleeping. When they were five minutes apart and got stronger we went to the hospital, where they told us that I was 1cm dilated and that the contractions are not strong enough yet, so they sent us back home, which was pretty disappointing for us. 10 long hours later I couldn't stand the pain any more and at that point we went to the hospital again, where I could stay. All my plans to have a natural med-free birth went down the drain when the contractions became so strong, that I did not get any breaks and I didn't know where to go with myself. A hot bath didn't help, so I asked for gas, which only made me dizzy and didn't do any pain relieve at all. Also I was only 4 cm dilated for hours, which was so frustrating because the pain was just unbearable. To know that it didn't get me anywhere for hours was just very disappointing. The lack of sleep and the exhaustion made me ask for an epidural. My husband tried to talk me out of it, but I just couldn't do it any more. So the anesthesiologist (who was just lovely) came and took my pain away. It was heaven! I could sleep for around three hours, in that time my water broke and I got fully dilated. When they took out the epidural it was time to push, which took me around an hour. They had to make a small cut, which is healing pretty well. When she finally came out it was just love and joy from then on. She's just gorgeous and we love her to pieces. Breastfeeding is going ok-after some startup problems we are getting there
I could just look at her all day and be grateful for our little miracle.
Hazel Marie was born at 39 weeks on May 20. She weighs 7.13 pounds and is 21 inches long. I started labor Wednesday wvening at 6 and contractions intensified around 1:30 Thursdsy morning. We headed to the hospital at 9, which is good because my water broke in the elevator at 9:15! I continued to labor all day but stayed at a 1. From 8-10:30 I had 1 minute contractions every 2-3 minutes so I got the epi. If I knew how we could refill it, I would've gotten it 2 hours earlier! By 5am on Friday, I was finally dilated to a 10 and started pushing at 5:22. After 3.5 hours of pushing we realized she wasn't going to come that way. So we pushed until 9:15 (yep, 4 hours. It sucked!) before my OB calling a section. He said the first thing he saw was her nose so she was not going to fit through my pubic bone. Recovery is going pretty wel, they are impressed with my section recovery but since I essentially am recovering from both, I'm sore. And exhausted. But she is doing great so far and loves her daddy but is totally a mommy's girl. We are so in love.
Lucas James Dow was born at 9:12am on Friday May 20th via csection (39+6). 7 lbs 10 oz, 20 3/4 inches long, and looks just like his handsome daddy :-) we are so exhausted and so in love!
She's here! Jet Alexandria Sotack arrived in time for the blue moon at 11:50AM on 05/21. 7 pounds, 9 ounces. Labor was as good as labor can be and I am freaking exhausted and so in love with this fuzzy little girl. Can't wait to break out of the hospital and go home!
Team green turned BLUE! Our new arrival, Daniel James 8lbs 4oz arrived today, at 7:32am, 5/22. I was admitted yesterday around 5pm after my water broke at home. Contractions came on gradually but by 10:30pm, I was waving the flag! I had the Epi placed around 11pm and then got some rest for most of the night. By 5 am I was 8 cm and needed to labor down for a while to get him to descend. Around 7:10am, I was ready to push. 3 big pushes and 20 mins later, I laid eyes on my beautiful son. His shoulder got stuck and meconium was present, so NICU was called to the room, however he's doing fine now. We are so amazed and in love with our new tiny guy.
Robin Amelia made her grand entrance May 17 at 7:52 PM. 3330 grams and 49 cm. (7 lb 4 oz 19") we are so happy to be finally home after 6 days in the hospital. We are so overjoyed with out little bundle. Birth story to come.
I had my baby! Induced at 41w. Baby Emma was born on 5/22/16 weighing 8lbs5oz & 19" (weight is exactly as her big sister when she was born!) We are in love!
Jaxson Reed arrived via csection on 5/19 @ 12:28pm weighing 8lbs3oz. I had my 40 week appt on 5/18. At that appt, my blood pressure was high 150/100 and I showed no signs of labor. My Ob was willing to let me VBAC as long as my body did what did needed to do. Due to my high blood pressure, previous csection and only being dilated to 1cm my Ob wasn't willing to induce me. He recommended a rcs for the following day but he was willing to let me go till Monday to see if I went into labor. DH and I decided to have a rcs as my Ob was strongly encouraging the rcs for the following day. So we went into the hospital at 10am on 5/19 where it took them 15 minutes to prep me. We then waited until 12pm for the surgery team to get there. Jaxson was born 28 minutes later! Recovery has been a lot better this time around but I've been having awful gas pains in my shoulders. Hoping to get my staples out tomorrow!
Re: May 2016 Birth Announcements--Do NOT Comment Unless Announcing Birth
Even though the pain was horrific, I was beyond thrilled to finally hold my little guy this morning, he is adorable and the DH and I love him so very much
We arrived at the hospital at 6:30 AM Saturday morning and began pitocin around 8.

My husband has been AMAZING - learning how to take care of all his needs while I was stuck in bed for a couple days. Breastfeeding is going OK., supplementing with formula. We are very much in love with his sweet face.

Also, if you remember my
name dilemma, we compromised by picking a different middle name than DH's given one, but still consider him the fourth.
We we think he's pretty amazing.

Baby #3 EDD: 6/18/24
We arrived at the hospital at 1146pm and I was 7-8cm. I quickly progressed to 10. The doctor had to break my water as it just wouldn't rupture on its own, and then 4 pushes later we were meeting our baby girl. It was fast, and very intense! I yelled quite a bit
Also totally in over our heads, but he's worth it;)
She was a completely natural home and water birth with a very experienced certified midwife attending; after 32 hours of labor.
