@JoMunson I didn't even realize I had hemorrhoid so bad until after everything else started to heal. The pain/discomfort just blended together before. I'm eager to have it healed as well, because even walking still wears me out at this point. Plus it's really hot here, unfortunately. Keeping me from wanting to do much. Afraid of LO getting overheated

Neither did I!! Had to get the doc to check something near my bum and he told me. I was like OHHH that explains the added pressure!
And im with you on the walking being exhausting. I was so fit before I got pregnant. Now I can barely make it around the grocery store. It's a little depressing!!

Yes! I went to clean myself and I was like "well, that is just protruding out of my butt isn't it?" and yes to walking! We went for a half mile walk yesterday's and I can feel my bio and pelvic bones complaining today! I can't wait to just feel normal!
The recovery has been the hardest but a week out and I feel almost like a human again. Have 3 pounds until I'm back at my pre pregnancy weight. Not sure how. I definitely have a flabby stomach. Any tips from STMs on how to tighten the core?

Planks and time! Also, be sure to engage your core when you're walking and doing regular movements throughout the day. To help tighten my skin last time, I used a scrub of coffee grounds and coconut oil in the shower. Eta a postpartum binder helps too.

I can't wait to start planks! I wonder how long after a c-section one has to wait to do ab workouts? I know everyone is different but on average?

@kurrant I tried around 6w with my first, but it was closer to 8w before I could actually do them for any significant time without feeling lots of pain around my incision. You definitely want to start gently after the cs.
For those of you who got a bellefit or other postpartum binder, how tmhas that turned out for you so far? I haven't been able to wear mine because of the back surgery I had (crap, I'm not even allowed a bra until staples are removed tomorrow, so I'll let you imagine how great that is...I've never been so thankful for my smaller breasts that didn't get that big even with milk coming in. I've been taping breastfeeding pads to my boobs...). I hate that I have a bellefit just sitting in my closet at home. I've lost quite a bit of the baby belly so far though. Just not impressed with all the stretch marks under my belly button...

Did that scrub actually work or make a difference??

It got rid of the worn-tissue paper/leathery sort of feeling that my skin had immediately post partum. I'm sure the tightening was mostly due to time because it took about a month for things to feel more normal again-- but it helped the skin texture to feel more supple and strong for sure.

I can tell it's going to be more about the flab than the lbs over here, too. Not a STM, but I intend to do Pilates and Yoga, since they are all about strengthening your core.

Thanks. Tissue paper is exactly how I would describe it. Especially because I have a large family of stretch marks in the same area too! I will give that a try!
1. How much weight did you gain in the pregnancy? 50 lbs.
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose? 40 (maybe a little less. I randomly weighed myself in the middle of the day, will try to remember tomorrow morning).
60 ideally--by my February wedding
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals? Starting Sunday, I'm going to try to go back to really watching what I eat. Limiting dairy and grains, lots of lean protein, and lots of fruits, raw veggies, and water. In the mean time I have been trying to drink lots of water and/or gatorade, eat fruits, and snack better.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so? I'm hoping that around 1 week PP that I am not so sore, so I can start taking walks with LO. Maybe graduate to PP yoga in the following weeks. But I'm going to take it easy for at least 4-6 weeks.
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy? Before pregnancy, I did lots of walking/running, Zumba, some weights, and spinning. During pregnancy, I was either on pelvic rest or bed rest for most of it, so I did very little. Towards the very end, I started to walk more.
6. Any questions, comments, rants or raves? I feel very flabby and i have a big weight loss hill to climb, but I'm super motivated! it was so worth it!
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose?
When I was discharged from the hospital I was already down 20lbs due to having polyhydramnios-excess amniotic fluid. I haven't weighed myself since, but I can tell I have lost more. Flabby tummy still there though
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals?
i have some healthy snacks lined up-fruits, veggies, almonds, quick little snacks I can grab while nursing.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so?
I plan on doing walks probably starting next week-my tailbone is still super sore, I'm hoping it gets better though.
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy?
I was running, and also doing 30 day shred when I got my unexpected BFP.
I wanted to give everyone on here a creepy internet hug- DH saw me all the way naked with my PP stretch marks and deflated balloon belly and lina negra and he said he thought I looked great. I wanted to let all you ladies know that right now you look great! You made a WHOLE person and then gave birth to them and are currently keeping them alive! You are fantastic and your body is rocking it! Go you!

I LOVE this!!!! My hubby has been telling my daily that I look awesome. It's so nice to hear even if you don't feel it or believe it, I think them seeing us do something so incredible makes us more beautiful to them!
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose?
Im only down 10 so far. Jealous of those of you that are almost back at pre-pregnancy weight!
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals?
Since giving birth my tastes have changed. I'm not really into desserts and crap now. Even pizza tasted odd. I've been having more fruits and veggies, and my appetite overall has decreased.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so?
Hoping by this weekend I can go out for daily walks. And by July back to the gym.
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy?
Pre- kickboxing, hot yoga, running during- walking
1. How much weight did you gain in the pregnancy? 50lbs
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose? No clue. I'm still really swollen but I normally go off how I feel/look in my clothes more than the numbers on the scale.
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals? I made freezer meals that had a lot of veggies in them and try to keep fresh fruit in the house. I've also not let go of my insatiable thirst for water since not being pg.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so? I've never been one to do organized workouts. I'm sure keeping house and up with 2 kids will do fine to keep me in shape.
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy? None.
6. Any questions, comments, rants or raves? I will say bc (hopefully) of swelling I haven't been able to fit into my Bellefit girdle as of yet BUT got a few of the Tighty Wifey tanks. Oh my Lord do those things work like magic! I'm kicking myself for not doing a before and after but before I started wearing them I still looked 9 months pg and now I look MAYBE 5 months pg after wearing them for less than a week.

I'm not sure if this is necassarily the "right" place to post this but I'm going to anyways. I'm currently still pregnant ( 38 +4) but am so desperate and excited to not have to share my body with LO for much longer. That being said, I really want to start getting back into shape ASAP postpartum. Assuming everything goes smoothly in labor and baby does well outside the womb, when would LO be in age safe zone to take her out on walks in the stroller -assuming this GA heat doesn't kick back up again? Edited because my keyboard added acronyms that aren't real to my post
@1mae2016 everything I've read says to take baby out as soon as you are ready. As long as they are dressed appropriately for the weather, they should be fine. The only concern is being around a bunch of people/germs, but the outside air is just fine. I plan on taking my LO for a walk today at 2 weeks! I would have sooner if I had felt up to it myself.
@1mae2016 we started taking our LO on walks around the neighborhood the day after we got home. She loves the outside air and the movement of the stroller. At 2 weeks we started taking her into the grocery store and pharmacy for brief trips, no one touched her and she wasn't inside for very long. Its great for me, too! I've been sick with mastitis and haven't been able to join my husband on the daily walks since Friday and I've missed it a lot! My husbands working today and I may wear her on a walk in the wrap.
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose?
17lbs (most of what has come off is pure water weight, I got SO swollen, so I'm not getting too excited about these remaining lbs)
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals?
My biggest thing will be healthy snacks while breastfeeding, I feel like DD searching aimlessly for the boob, breastfeeding makes me totally famished! I have almonds and protein bars, and just need to aim to stick to those for snacking. Otherwise I'm just taking the fresh is best and portion control route.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so?
Walking with DD, some yoga
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy?
@1mae2016 I feel like getting fresh air is so important for baby! We are lucky to have babies born at this time so we can get out and enjoy the weather. I plan on taking her out daily for a walk (once I can walk again that is!), not only to have a routine with her, but to aid in my weight loss. DH and I will be taking her to parks, the zoo and other outdoor spaces this summer. Get out and enjoy I say!
@1mae2016 we've gone out multiple times a day since we came home 3 weeks ago, but I can't stay inside all day with a toddler. We've gone to brunch, run errands, and just taken long walks. If you're really concerned about the heat (not sure how hot it is there yet) make sure you cover the bassinet or car seat with a breathable blanket or sunshade and you can also use a clip on fan to ensure air is circulating. Just make sure it is safely attached and won't touch the baby. I used one after DS1 was born when we were in Palm Springs, he was 5 months and the average temp was 110. He stayed in the shade and remained cool even while I was sweating like crazy.
1. How much weight did you gain in the pregnancy? 36 lbs.
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose? I haven't been weighed at a doctors office yet and I really feel like our scale is off at home. It never matched what I was getting at my appointments. So waiting till after my first postpartum appt tomorrow to see.
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals? I've been really into fresh fruits and vegetables postpartum. However DH did get me some ice cream the other day when I was having just an absolutely horrible day. Really though, I pretty much just plan on going back to my regular diet pre-pregnancy as it wasn't really unhealthy anyway.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so? The adapter for the car seat to be attached to the stroller will be here today so lots of walks in our future.
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy? Before pregnancy I did long distance running. During I stopped running completely and just stuck with walking.
6. Any questions, comments, rants or raves? I'm going stir crazy over here. I can't wait to start getting back into a little more of my old routine.
Thank you girls for your answers. Now I'm even more excited to have this baby and get to the park! Lol. It had cooled off the past couple of days into the mid 70s but that just means in the next few days it'll spike back up to the mid 80s and just get hotter from there. It's good for the weight loss though!
As to going out with your LO- everyone told me you'll know when you're ready! I felt ready about day 4 pp but by the time I'd muster the energy for a walk it would be late in the day. I actually went on my first walk with LO day 7 pp and it was amazing! I was sore and exhausted after the half mile walk but I just felt a lot better, more like the kind of mom I want to be. Ezra is still kindof sensitive to lots of chatter so we haven't taken him anywhere with a lot of people yet, but we've taken him on a few errands and he's done great! I think successful outings can make you feel like a successful mom!
Our walk went pretty well until it started drizzling! Fortunately he was well covered up. It's kind of depressing that one mile of walking felt so challenging, but I was pushing the stroller, so I guess that adds to the work!

What kind of stroller? Is it a travel system where you can use the carseat? Will you use a bassinet attachment? Does the seat recline? The answer is dependent on type of stroller, IMO. I have a bassinet attachment and I plan on taking walks in my neighborhood as soon as I am feeling up for it (hopefully early... within the first week or so).
ETA -- I didn't see the next page of responses until after I posted this. Sorry for the repetitive answer!
11 days postpartum and we just took our first stroller walk around our neighborhood - a little over three quarters of a mile. I think I had this renewed desire to workout after seeing I'm down close to 20 pounds. I'm 15 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight and 20 pounds from where I'd like to be. Felt great, and I could have gone for longer, except for my stitches. My maternity yoga pants were falling off my butt though. Wish I could say it makes me sad they don't fit me anymore because they are so comfortable, but heck yeah! Booty is shrinking! I'll have to remind myself of that during LO's 12am and 3-4am feedings.
Also, related to other conversations, my late night breastfeeding snack of choice are KIND bars. I keep a stash in my nightstand now.

It's a Graco travel system, to answer your question. But I do appreciate the response regardless! Haha
I am giving myself a "pass" for now. I am a small person in general and know I gained at least 35 pounds. I stopped looking at the scale with a month and a half to two months to go in pregnancy if I remember right.
I will continue to ignore the scale (which I use to weigh daily for years unless noted above) until my 6 week PP appointment. Right now my entire goal is to eat and drink enough calories to keep up with nursing and establish a great supply. I am living in yoga pants and nursing clothes.
I did the exact same things last time and starting weight for pregnancy #2 was the same as pregnancy #1. (Toddler and newborn now). So I am not too worried at this stage - more worried about the breastfeeding supply being established than anything else.
In the past two weeks I've only lost 20 pounds... But I look like I lost much more than that! At 2 weeks pp, is your body still holding more fluids than normal? I'm trying not to look at the number on the scale but it's hard not to compare to pre-pg numbers!
@yogahh I held onto some swelling until just before 3weeks-- my legs finally look more normal now, and I'm down another 7lbs. Also, both pregnancies I gained muscle in my legs and butt, so even though things looked more normal, the number on the scale was/is a little higher for a while. I'd imagine a lot of people go through that.
I never wanted to know because the pounds literally packed on but I'd say 60 lbs
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose?
Again, I still refuse to hear what the doctor says I weigh but I would guess I've lost 15! 45 to go?
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals?
This pregnancy has made me a big junk eater but starting today, I plan on drinking lean shakes, lots of veggies, and low carb dieting.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so?
I have started walking but I'm scared to overdue it after my c-section.. I'm three weeks out and feel great but I know I'm not 100% healed.
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy?
Before.. Yoga, walking, running.. Very active During.. Walks to the fridge.. Literally nothing (I totally regret this post baby)
6. Any questions, comments, rants or raves?
I have always had horrible body image issues so this weight gain is really getting me down! I hate looking in the mirror and I have a hard time seeing myself ever getting back to my old body, I feel so unmotivated. Anyone else having a little case of body blues?
2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose?
I promised myself I would wait for two weeks like I did with my first. With my first I lost the initial 20 and the other 27 sucked. Got on the scale today, down 19 so 19 to go. I'll wait until next Monday to make my official start point. I just have heard two weeks most of the fluid is out.
3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals?
Fruit. Much more into fruit this time around. Trying to avoid baked goods. I'm so insanely hungry. My baby is an eater, she gets that from her momma. In general I need to track calories just to make sure I'm not hitting over 2500. I feel like a bottomless pit.
4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so?
Ok, I feel like my OB is being more strict this time around? I have stitches so I know I need to take it easy, but I'm not really interested in waiting 6 weeks to get back to the gym... I'm definitely taking it day by day and today is day 8 and I'm not ready for jack. Perhaps some walking is in my future. I just don't think the lbs will budge unless I'm exercising again.
5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy?
Running, spinning, elliptical, weights.
6. Any questions, comments, rants or raves?
I went to old navy today bc they have a 50% off sale. Just bought some elastic waist shorts and bigger tees just so I have a couple more options to get me through the next few weeks/months. Last time was just so rough and I was so hard on myself but in the same breath didn't try to lose any until I was 6 months post partum. This time I want to be kinder to myself but also make smart choices that aren't self sabotaging healthy efforts.
Now almost 4 weeks PP, my feet are finally shrunk down and I can wear all my sandals and shoes. However my rings still do not fit. I had to breakdown and buy a fake wedding ring because I have no idea if my rings will ever fit my fingers again. Does anyone have experience with this, do your hands and/or feet never go back to their original size or does it just take a long time? I guess I am having a hard time being patient.

My fingers were so swollen last time, and my rings did not fit when I went back to work at 6 weeks. I would say somewhere between 4-6 months post partum they fit again. My coworker had her rings resized at 9 months post partum because they were too small, and then 3 months later they were too big! You just never know when/if they will fit, its so annoying!

Ezra is still kindof sensitive to lots of chatter so we haven't taken him anywhere with a lot of people yet, but we've taken him on a few errands and he's done great! I think successful outings can make you feel like a successful mom!
ETA -- I didn't see the next page of responses until after I posted this. Sorry for the repetitive answer!
Also, related to other conversations, my late night breastfeeding snack of choice are KIND bars. I keep a stash in my nightstand now.
So I am not too worried at this stage - more worried about the breastfeeding supply being established than anything else.
pounds... But I look like I lost much more than that! At 2 weeks pp, is your body still holding more fluids than normal? I'm trying not to look at the number on the scale but it's hard not to compare to pre-pg numbers!
Very active
During.. Walks to the fridge.. Literally nothing (I totally regret this post baby)

I have always had horrible body image issues so this weight gain is really getting me down! I hate looking in the mirror and I have a hard time seeing myself ever getting back to my old body, I feel so unmotivated. Anyone else having a little case of body blues?
1. How much weight did you gain in the pregnancy?
38 lbs
