Not looking forward to the group B test since I have a gross hemorrhoid
Wait.... Is this a ladyparts test??? I didn't make it that far last pregnancy and I didn't even think about it--mine is next week.
Stuck in the box
GBS is an opportunistic pathogen, it doesn't usually hurt people with a good immune system but if a baby with a still developing immune system gets it, it can cause meningitis or even kill the baby. It can live in your vagina and GI tract so they swab your tooty toot and vag to see if you have it. If so they give you antibiotics during labor to reduce transmission risk from 1/200 to less than 1/4000 which as virtually eliminated GBS as a cause of meningitis in newborns (before routine testing it was the leading cause in the under 6 month crowd).
Eta - sorry if I get talk-y about GBS every time it's mentioned. I was one of the 1/200 who got it from a positive mom before they did routine testing and it nearly killed me. I had a lumbar puncture at 2 days old and at my 1 year check up, my pediatrician mentioned to my mom they hadn't expected me to make it because of how sick I had been. I've seen a few of the more natural oriented groups give advice on how to clear your vag of it for long enough to pass the test because people want to avoid an IV during delivery and it makes me ragey so I do my best to educate people on why its important when I get the chance.
*PSA over*
I understand the importance. I will submit to just about anything to have a healthy baby. But I still hate butt stuff.

I wasn't directing it at you, please don't think that! Just putting it out there for anyone who reads the thread. Agreed, butt stuff is no fun
jschlaud sorry it took me so long to respond! My MIL is having a Grandma Shower next week. I know nothing about it but will report back with information after!
Also-- I just asked my sister about this butt swab test, she's had 2 kids in the last 3 years and she said they didn't swab her butt... but everything I've read says they do butt and vag. I'm getting mine Tuesday, either way I'm not looking forward to it. My H thinks it hilarious that I have to get my butt swabbed.

I literally just found out this was a butt swab yesterday. I'm still mad at my mother for telling me she was pretty sure it was a vaginal swab but that it might be a mouth swab. She never mentioned the butt. She had 5 kids. You would think she'd remember...
Just had mine this week. I also didn't know about that part either, but it was over before I could even register what was going on. It's really quick.
Yeah, I'm not worried about it. I really am glad that I know what to expect now versus being surprised next week.
Oh lord! I didn't know it was butt swab either! Now I really will have to get it waxed! haha, yeah right, but ew
My GBS test was Monday: just a swab of the outside of the vag and they drag the swab down towards your anus, but it's mainly just getting the perineal area. Nothing bad. I promise. Also, it takes like 0.04 seconds.
@WinniethePoohsPants I also do the Zantac150 first thing and again late afternoon trick (but I use generic). I used to supplement with ultra strength peppermint TUMS, but someone recently told me to try apple cider vinegar (2 tsp dissolved into an 8oz glass of water). Works a lot better than TUMS, even though it's not the most pleasant tasting stuff around. I use "Bragg's" brand. Been doing that now for 2 days and I am pleased to report that I no longer wake up breathing fire in the middle of the night. WIN! *ETA I know 2 days isn't exactly a "trend," data-wise, but hey...I'll still take it.
Tooty toot testing..... Haha. I'm still giggling.... I'm ok with it, since it will benefit my child. I just like laughing at how silly it sounds. Butt swab, tooty toot testing..

Oh. Well, this is better than I thought. I was envisioning having to bend over the table. God. I'm so dramatic. Obviously if I'm spread eagle for the vag swab they can just swab my tooty toot at the same angle.
Wow I've been out of the loop for awhile. This damn mobile app is killing me. Ever since the update it's useless. I'm only 35+4 and I'm ready to evacuate this kid. Why is this pregnancy so much harder than my first? My back feels on fire 24/7. DD came naturally at 38 weeks so I hope I'm not setting myself up for disappointment when I think that this one will also come early.
Butt swab is scheduled for next week. Purposely scheduled that one on a day that DH can't make it. He would be giggling about butt swabbing for days.
I told my husband he is not coming to my appt next week because of the butt swab. I feel like that is something we can keep between my doctor and I without my husband sitting uncomfortably in the corner of the room!
I know it isn't as awful as it sounds because I had it with my first child so I know what's coming. It lasts a matter of seconds....but I still dread it. I don't like things going into my no no zone!
Has anyone asked their ob if they can do their own butt swab? My last pregnancy was with a midwife and she gave me the swab, told me what to do and sent me to the washroom. I would really like the ability to do that again. Just don't know if ob's be cool like 'dat.
I just told DH that I think we should go get ice cream tonight from an ice cream place like 2 minutes away called "Double D's" (yes, it is a very classy place). We haven't been there yet this year. And they have a cookie dough blizzard type deal that has just a gigantic scoop of cookie dough on top. I'm salivating thinking about it it. Get in my belly!
The butt swab was nothing. I expected her to ram that thing up in there but it didn't even get past my cheeks. And I was covered by a blanket with her hand under it, she just knew what to feel for. I was kind of reassured it wasn't some kind of tooty toot evaluation.

With the photo this is just sheer torture!!! It may be the most amazing thing i have ever seen!! Is this available anywhere near WI? I am willing to drive... Far.
ETA: ummm... No idea what happened to the rest of my post, but I guess this is what I get for posting half asleep.

Sorry @DeePaddy24 and @junebabyjoy!! I devoured it in your honor. @egirl1025 I think it's just local (small town in IL) unfortunately. When we eventually move I'll have to try to replicate it. I have a recipe for eggless cookie dough. I'll have to try it on top of cookie dough ice cream. I'm sure it won't be the same but desperate times may call for desperate measures one day.

So nesting has started and I started getting BH yesterday and just had another bad one at work. Trying to keep a straight face while a baby is head butting you in the cervix takes skill. 8 more days to full term but I'd really prefer if she continued to cook 27 or so more days so my mom will be here to watch DD1. Fingers and legs crossed. Do not come out yet!
ETA: meant to say cervix not uterus. Send me back to 5th grade health class.

I can't do it. Every time he does that I jump and make surprise noises. Thank goodness I am usually at home when it happens.
