I hate dates. I've started taking evening primrose oil. I don't know if it really helps, but I feel like it couldn't hurt!
I've been putting them in a smoothie. I just tried to eat one plain and started gagging because it looked like a cockroach. No way.
What exactly does primrose oil do? Lol
Nvm I googled it. Like a smart person
I was thinking the same thing and was about to comment... and then you reminded me that Google is a thing and I should use it. Glad I wasn't the only one confused!
I used castor oil twice. But apparently I have a very resilient colon and experienced none of the side effects they warn you about. And, both times I used it my water broke a few hours later. I won't say there was a correlation, but that's my story! (it tastes like tooty toot though)
Dh is putting our car seat in this weekend, 36 weeks. You know, just in case. I don't wanna end up like my friend who went into labor at 36+4 and they just threw the box in the car
This is LITERALLY what happened to us with DD2. I was even 36+4. My water just decided to break while I laying on the couch eating a hotdog.
So when is it suggested to put your car seat in the car ? Do you have to get it checked with a piece of paper to leave the hospital? Guess I should start looking into this. Ahhhhh!!!!!
I'm not putting mine in until 36 weeks at minimum. The way I see it, if I go into labor any earlier the baby is going to be in the hospital for at least a few days and I'll have time to install it then. If you get into a car accident with the seat or just the base in the car, you technically are supposed to replace them because they could be compromised so it's not worth potentially having to replace to me.
My hospital does not check the install in the car, it makes them liable if it's not done properly so I'll be bringing it to someone to check once its installed.
Yes, you would need to replace them, but I believe insurance would cover the replacement depending on the type of accident. (Don't quote me on that, though, that's just what I remember hearing when I was pregnant with DS.)
Our hospital also did not check, but many fire departments will do free carseat checks (some could even install for you). In our town, it's by appt.

Did you water break before you started having contractions, both times? That's awesome.

My H has been an insurance adjuster for years and yes, they pay to replace them
I drank a castor oil smoothie the day I went into labor with DS. I didn't notice the any nasty side effects. I did poop during labor - but doesn't everyone?
After baby was born I was so backed up and on stool softeners for like a month...
I'm thinking that I'm really burnt out in regards to my job; between training my temp., prepping for our office move (boss just HAD to do it BEFORE I left for mat. leave, she actually told me that so that I could be here to coordinate everything), and trying to wrap up a plethora of cases on my desk...feeling a bit exhausted and a tad overwhelmed.
I'm also thinking that I'm probably going to destroy the two large bags of M&Ms (peanut butter and peanuts) that are sitting on the conference table and I'm perfectly okay with that...I'll buy more for everyone else
I've started getting all the busy work projects since I'm leaving at the end of the month and not coming back (moving cross country during mat. leave). No fun and it's not making my days move any faster.
Side note, I know I missed the second great facebook migration, but is there any chance I could get in on that? I've been more lurker than regular, mostly because all the threads blow up before I can get to them and then I don't have the time to catch up.

Yep. Both times and in the middle of the night each time. Contractions came on fast and furious also.
I just wanted to say in regards to a post 3 pages ago, that the Siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp used to absolutely terrify me. I say used to because I'm 26 and it's embarrassing to say they still do....
If you are committed to dates and really don't like them, you can try using date paste instead. I buy it at a middle eastern grocery in town but I'm sure you could order if off amazon where I buy everything lately so I don't have to wear pants more than necessary. There's quite a few recipes out there, a number of them involving cookies, which you know, would be strictly a selfless action for our babies.
For those trying to do lots of castor oil, they were using that as the base for my 17P shots (which seems weird, since the shots are to prevent labor...) and after a few shots I developed a major allergic reaction with swollen face and lips, itchy throat, hives and rash all over, the whole gloriously attractive and scary set of symptoms. The nurses who give the shots told me it's not super common but it happens sometimes with the castor oil. So, if you're chugging the castor oil smoothies and start feeling itchy, be careful and take a Benadryl before you too can enjoy intense fully body hives and swelling in places you didn't realize you had place (including some that most of us probably can't even reach at this point.) Now that I have developed this delightful allergy, I'm learning how many skin and beauty products, especially "natural" ones, use castor oil as an ingredient. I'm hoping it goes away after a while once my body settles down.
Not looking forward to the group B test since I have a gross hemorrhoid
Well that's unpleasant. It still shouldn't hurt if that's any consolation...but sometimes just having to bare your hemorrhoids for a doctor is its own unpleasant experience.

I literally just found out this was a butt swab yesterday. I'm still mad at my mother for telling me she was pretty sure it was a vaginal swab but that it might be a mouth swab. She never mentioned the butt. She had 5 kids. You would think she'd remember...

Just had mine this week. I also didn't know about that part either, but it was over before I could even register what was going on. It's really quick.

Yeah, I'm not worried about it. I really am glad that I know what to expect now versus being surprised next week.

If it's any consolation, it wasn't a recommended test until 1995 so it's possible she didn't have it depending on your sibling's ages.

Had mine done a couple days ago. Thank God she warned me about the butt thing. I one time went to a regular GYN appt and she stuck her finger up my butt with no warning... Yeah I don't go to them anymore...

Wait.... Is this a ladyparts test??? I didn't make it that far last pregnancy and I didn't even think about it--mine is next week.
Stuck in the box
GBS is an opportunistic pathogen, it doesn't usually hurt people with a good immune system but if a baby with a still developing immune system gets it, it can cause meningitis or even kill the baby. It can live in your vagina and GI tract so they swab your tooty toot and vag to see if you have it. If so they give you antibiotics during labor to reduce transmission risk from 1/200 to less than 1/4000 which as virtually eliminated GBS as a cause of meningitis in newborns (before routine testing it was the leading cause in the under 6 month crowd).
Eta - sorry if I get talk-y about GBS every time it's mentioned. I was one of the 1/200 who got it from a positive mom before they did routine testing and it nearly killed me. I had a lumbar puncture at 2 days old and at my 1 year check up, my pediatrician mentioned to my mom they hadn't expected me to make it because of how sick I had been. I've seen a few of the more natural oriented groups give advice on how to clear your vag of it for long enough to pass the test because people want to avoid an IV during delivery and it makes me ragey so I do my best to educate people on why its important when I get the chance.

She had one in 2001 and 2004. She is just a dirty liar. But seriously, I should really stop forgetting to ask my OB these questions and assuming that she's going to know haha

KIDDING- please don't do that to yourself.
