  • uh, I could be wrong, but I think it followed you here @CopperBoom86  ^^^

    lol.
  • @sjo&thetwins - Good call with not posting on the baby names board. They crucified me for Reagan- said it was "unpleasant," "ugly," and "very masculine" and gave me all kinds of reasons why it was wrong to give a girl a masculine name. Literally 20+ girls all saying the exact same thing with nothing new or creative to add... and they're still going! I posted it on April 19th and I'm still getting responses on it. When I tried to call the dogs off by saying "I get it. No need to say the same thing over and over again." Some chick came back at me and got like a bazillion love-tits for it. SMH.

I think your names are very cute and go well together!

@mommym234 - I know a teenager named Anika Jane. I love her name!
If you don't want to hear any negative opinions about the names you are considering for a child, you probably shouldn't post asking for opinions, or post the names you are considering in threads that are about discussing baby names. Everyone isn’t going to like the names you like, and everyone is going to have their own opinions, good and negative,  whether they voice them or not.
And they've followed me here lol.

I understand what you're saying completely. I DID want opinions... just not the exact same one a dozen times. I specifically asked for different reasons WHY the name was not liked. I simply wasn't prepared for the volumn of redundant responses I got and I honestly thought it was a little silly. If I read a post and what I think has already been said multiple times, I don't respond. Seems like common sense to me. I regret posting now because it keeps getting brought back up to the top of the board just so someone can say what the girl before her already said lol.
I've commented on this thread multiple times before, I don't have the time to follow people around  (which is an absolute pain to even attempt on mobile anyway)

FWIW I also find it obnoxious when people resurrect zombie threads. A lot of the time, its non regulars or the once every other week regs. Sadly, there isn't much that can stop that.
  • @CopperBoom86 I did like your point about the "old lady" name trend. I have wondered that myself at many of the suggestions on the Baby Names board, and why they are not considered trendy in the way other names are. Perhaps it is the longer name history? Or just that they're currently agreed upon by the regs? It's a mystery :)

I have a certain love of old timey names, DD has one as a middle name. She also has a "neutral" or boy-turned-girl first name that I'm sure would get skewered if I asked about it. I love lurking Baby Names and occasionally posting, but I don't think I have the right taste to be a reg.

  • @Piperella That's kind of what my stance was on it too.  Reed was vetoed by FI, and Tyler has been thrown back to the top of the stack.
  • @Bringmemylongswordho - I just wanted to clarify that I didn't mean YOU followed me here. I just meant the baby name drama (if you can call it that) in general. I didn't mean to imply you sought me out in some way. My bad! My point was that I just want that thread to die already!

  • @allythekid ooh I'm on my way over to read!
  • @allythekid OMG they LOVE your names!!! hahaha WTF?!
  • @JamieK1882 I had a strange feeling they'd eat that shit up haha
  • For the record, I actually kinda dig those names now that I threw them out there, we just can't use them. We have a Michael (Mikey), Addison (Addy), and Jimmy (just Jimmy) so those names can't really "sit with us" and fit in haha

  • Can't decide on a middle girl name!

Ok, so after having DH tell me for years (long before baby-making was even happening) that his favorite name for a girl was Lexi, I have FINALLY caved and agreed. I tried throwing at least 80 other names at him, but I swear this name for him is like the "it" dress to a new bride. However, as much as I would never pick Lexi on my own, I dislike more any typical longer version of the name: Alexis, Alexandra, Alexandria, etc. I don't know how I thought of it, but Lexington came to mind as a more formal, long version. We played with both ideas of it being a first name or middle name, but decided we'd keep it as first name instead of having chaos from a separate first name, but called by middle nickname...

Soo...now comes the task of a middle name! My OCD wants the syllables to flow...3-syllable first name, 2-syllable middle name, and our last name is 1 syllable. But also nothing with the same end sounds (doesn't rhyme with -ton, or ee sound, or soft s like last name). Yes, I know my OCD can be a bitch.

    Our ideas so far:
    Lexington/Lexi Elise
    Lexington/Lexi Elaine (MIL'S middle name)
Lexington/Lexi Cecile (FIL'S name is Cecil)

    Any other genius suggestions?!

  • @TNlove1027 I like Lexi Elaine a lot!
  • @tnlove1027 I like Lexington Elise. I know a Lexington Lee, very sweet name and child :)

  • Loving Willa and Indy! Never thought of them until this thread.

What do you guys think of Olympia? DH and I both love it, but we also wonder if it's too speshul snowflake.

Other picks are Florence, Evelyn, or Josephine.
  • Love Florence. I like Eve better than the long form Evelyn. Olympia is a big bold choice.
  • I love Olympia. I have a coworker with that name (named herself, though, when she was baptized into the Russian orthodox church or something).

We have a name picked out that I'm not sharing because I'm still nervous someone will steal it and it is deeply meaningful to me. Also, anyone who doesn't like it is just wrong, so what do I care ;-)

  • We were going to use Ruby if one of twins was a girl! I love it!

I love Florence, Evelyn and Josephine! Those are all such pretty names.

Indy was originally Indiana and we'd decided on it long before getting pregnant. But I keep hearing it around, and a good friend has a kid named Indiauna (indy-awna). But I do still love Indy.

Updated list because we are ridiculous...

    Girls:
    Willa Mae
    Hazel Grace
Celestine  ( CiCi ) no MN yet
    Wren Louise
    Luna Mae
    Sailor Grace
    Indy Mae
    Evie Kate
    Scout Louise
    Cohen Kate

    Boys:
    Archer Vance
    Luke Wilder or Wilder Luke
    Milo Luke
    Jett Wilder
    Knox Wilder
    Cohen Luke

We would also consider Jett or Knox for a girl. We're pretty big into androgynous names for girls and I like kind of spunky, strong unique names for girls.
  • @knwils - Knox was our boy name! We actually would've named him Michael Knox and called him Knox (Michael is my dad's name). But alas! We're having a girl, so we'll save it for the next baby. Archer and Luke were also on our short list. You have some great choices!

Ha. Well, you are very much entitled to that opinion.
However, how many girls are named Mary, hispanics are named Jesus, little boys are named Christian, little girls are named Heaven? Yeah. I think I'm ok with my choice, here, considering I have no affiliation with the Jewish culture and I think that the whole "omgosh don't appropriate my culture or I'll cry" thing is outrageous. People are so sensitive.

Wow. I just thought you'd like to know that some people might find that usage disrespectful and as such could give a negative impression.

Clearly, I was wrong, respect and nuance is not something you're concerned about.
  • @Bringmemylongswordho - no need to read anything into this, but do you go here? I ask because I've only seen you post on this thread. I'm sure you do because it would be really kind of weird otherwise. Just curious.

No, I'm not due in Oct, I occasionally contribute to name threads because names, their usage, history and meanings is a hobby of mine.

    Fair enough
  • We're still so indecisive on boy names. I love our girl name choice (Hazel Mae), but I'm worried it's going to be one of those overly popular names as they grow up. The latest boy name I loved was Henry Lyle, but I'm running into the same issue, there are SO many Henry's. DH isn't on board with Henry, however someone suggested Preston Lyle on the name board and he likes that, it's growing on me too. I like that it's unique without being too obscure.
  • @nataliemaephotography I like Preston! It sounds sophisticated and is just the right amount of not being used too often. What do you think his nn would be? Pres? Pre?

  • @Michi1382 I was thinking nn would be Pres, it just seems to happen naturally.
  • @LGW2015 I LOVE Grayson!! It was at the top of my list for boy names - but my husband used his veto (my constant dilemma of him seeming to associate every name I pick with someone he knows...).  But I think it has a great mix of masculinity & strength plus sensitivity.  Love it.
  • @LGW2015 one of my friends named her son this and I like it. There's also a boy in DD's daycare whose name is just Gray (not Grayson).
