I'm just catching up on reading the last 4 pages of this thread and I feel like I'm watching a TV show wherein I'll find out the results at the end of 6 months I love it!
@kmvisioli I'm there with you, it is a bit much. I'm about to bite the bullet and go with Tyler. My brothers can just get over it. DS's name is Jimmy Lee, he was named after his oldest (but deceased) uncle, so I could at least say I'm just following suit?

I hope your brother doesn't think you're waiting for him to die then.... just sayin
@Allythekid, Johnny in my head is played by a young Ben Affleck. Now you've got me singing "Simple Man" in my head. Antone is played by Ryan Gosling (esp the character in the Ides of March), and Desmond is played by Leo in Great Gatbsy. I'd totally date Desmond in high school, but I'd marry Johnny! Good choice for a name! I know a Gianni. He's a sweetheart.
Ok so we're having a boy and have been happily set on Rowan Siham. Then someone on this board (can't find the post now) mentioned the name Wilder which I absolutely LOVE! I run a women's empowerment business called Professional Wild Woman, and my husband and my first date was hiking at a place called Wilder Ranch. Wildness and nature are big with us.
But we still really love Rowan, and don't want to let go of Siham because it's my father-in-law's name, so what do you think of Rowan Wilder Siham M_____? Too much, honestly?
@WildMama , my friend named her boy Wilder (he's now 8 or 9) and it's such a cute name!
@gatorMom2014 I can't get on board with Cruz, and his 'cool factor' is real and wearing me thin. His latest suggestion is Craven. Thoughts anyone? I just don't know about it. Is that even a name? Other than Wes Craven, but that's his last name.
I would avoid Craven because the word "craven" means cowardly.
@AllyTheKid You're pretty much spot on with my brother, Johnny. He is a bit of an introvert, quiet but observes, intelligent, with a heart of gold. He loves music and can play a mean guitar. He can learn just about anything just by watching. He's a huge gamer and I wish he'd get into school for something related to games or computers because he's good at it. His biggest downfall is procrastination and lack of ambition. He's not a race car guy, but he's a car guy. Like the car kids, if you know what I mean by that. And he does actually spend time in the garage with dad doing something to his car! Lol

That's another reason it seems so awkward to me, I feel like unless you are naming a child after its father or mother, it's odd to honor a living relative by naming a child after them =/
@annabenannaJonah is on my list, too. So - I obviously love it. Our top two names are:
Roman Paul Jonah Paul
Paul is my FIL name, so it's a definite. I LOVE the name Jude, but as a huge Beatles fan, I realllly don't think I can get away with Jude Paul (Hey Jude / Paul McCartney). So...that's out.
Thoughts on Roman?
I love Jonah Paul.... but Roman, I can't get on board with because I know one Roman, and he's a jerk. I know another Roman, and he's super sweet, but he's a puppy.
I have absolutely no names set in stone yet! I haven't even started looking at boy names yet, which is terrible, because it will probably end up being a boy! Lol. Hubby is obsessed with the name Aria, which I like, but am not 100% sold on yet, I am not against it, just hasn't stuck yet. I like the name Adeline, Emmaline, and a list too long to list! Lol. However if it's a girl I thought it would be nice to pay tribute to my baby sister who passed. Her name was Rachel, so I thought a middle name of Rae, or something similar. I was also born on my great grandmothers birthday, and she was a wonderful beautiful woman. My cousin already has her first name, so I can't really use Vivian. Her middle name was Vauda, which I really don't like, but Vaudalynn (Vaw-Duh-Lynn) has kind of stuck with me as it's not super common, but meaningful. However I'm worried it just sounds weird, and don't want hubby to think it's terribly ugly? Is it an awful name?
@annabenanna taking it to another level! @CaptainPhasma I'm not doing Craven, it's just too something. Not a good something. @kelliott09 Hooray! My name intuition isn't too farfetched!
We are going with Kinzley Mae (Mae is his mothers middle name.) if it is a girl and Colton Russell (Russell is his brothers name) if it is a boy, we immediately knew what we wanted for a girls name, but it took us awhile for the boys. My boyfriend kept suggesting names that were weird to me (i.e Leonidas, Spartacus, Maximilian.)
SO and I have been together: 5 Years+ BFP: 03/10 First Baby: 10/20/2016
@lgw2015 yes I pronounce them differently. Emilia is more of "eh-mill-ee-ugh" and Amelia is "aa-mill-ee-ugh."
Idk I'm really not sold on it but I can't get him to agree to anything else. I'm still trying for Vivienne or Viviane, but he's pretty stubborn once he says he doesn't like a name.
just a word of advice not directed at anyone specific but just in general: when picking names, try to think of someone wth this name as a ceo, or an official in government. if you can't see the name being taken seriously, PLEASE don't saddle your child with that name.
We are thinking Julianna Jean for a girl. Jean is after my husband's deceased mother. For a boy we like Jaxxon Douglas. Douglas after my grandfather. We love Jaxxon but feel like it's been a very popular name choice latley.....other names we have considered are Sophia and Clay.
I thought we had a name picked out that I loved but DH just decided to veto it & now I'm devastated DH is set on a Hawaiian name and for years, he has wanted to name a boy Kai. When we found out we are having a girl, I said that I actually liked Kai as a girl name. He seemed to be in agreement. My maternal great grandmother's name was Elizabeth & Kai Elizabeth is what I've been doodling & calling the baby. Just fits - seems strong, yet feminine to me, and I love it. A little different, but not too different. Two nights ago he decides that he thinks Kai is too masculine & he hates Elizabeth. Ugh, why are men so freakin' difficult?! Thus far he has suggested Ualani & Iolani. Umm no. He may possibly come around to Kai if I hound him enough but apparently Elizabeth is out. Any suggestions on a possible name to go with Kai or something else with a bit of a Hawaiian flair? (Background: We live in Texas but DH previously lived in Hawaii and plans to live there again one day, after retirement. While I like some Hawaiian names, I don't want anything too "out there" and I have to keep in mind that any name we pick will be said with a southern drawl around here so I have to consider that aspect as well).
Edited to add: I have also suggested Kaia which he also vetoed. My Mom's name was Kay & I would like to incorporate a version of that if possible. I was content with Kai Elizabeth because I felt it honored both my mom & his Hawaiian requirement.
So, is your husband Hawaiian or is he "Hawaiian " like that south park episode where Butters and his family is Hawaiian? Cause if it's the south park version, I'd keep it to the middle if you use them at all.
this may be a flame worthy opinion but why is it popular opinion that spelling the name different makes it a whole other name? jackson = jaxson =jaxon=jaxxon
(this isn't specifically towards the name jackson just an example) the child would still be jackson pronounced

right and their name will probably always be spelled wrong....

It doesn’t. If Jaxon and Jackson are in the same class, they'll either be Jackson last initial or Jaxon with an x.
@mrszoess I have a common name spelled differently and so does my husband. I wouldn't do that to my child because it has always driven me crazy that I have to spell out my common sounding name and people get so confused by it. Although it's really not that complicated and people shouldn't be that confused by it. It's more common recently to spell names in a variety of ways so I wonder if people would be more used to it. I still have some mixed feelings, because even though the name sounds the same, it is a little more unique and special with the different spelling. Especially paired with my uber common maiden name of Miller.

My name is one of the following: Kathryn, Cathryn, Katherine, Catherine, Katheryn, Catheryn, Kathrine, Cathrine, etc... some are definitely more legitimate options than other, but all are guesses I have received when I give my name to someone. I've had Katheren and Cathreen, and a few other wacky ones. It never bothers me to spell out my name to someone since there are so many different ways to spell it, common or otherwise.

For middle name, What about a variation of Elizabeth? Isabel, Eliza, Beth, Betty, Elise, Elsa, Elsie, Elsbeth, Lisa, Lisbet, Liza, Lisette, Sabela... There are tons, I think Kai could go with any.
I like Kai for a boy, it's a shame he doesn't like Kaia. But Kai totally works for a girl. What about Kaylani or Kailani? It means sky and you could incorporate Kay that way. Kalani is another alternative. Some other pretty Hawaiia names: Alana, Leilani, Lana, Leia, Kealani, Alana.
@SuperNerd42 My mother-in-law almost couldn't get a passport because her name was spelled "Katherine" on her birth certificate but her parents *intended* to spell it "Kathryn" and that ended up on her social security...
I knew a girl in high school whose parents wanted to name her "Sharlene" but whose name was written "Charlene" but they felt it was a different name and pronounce it like the first syllable of "Charles" instead of the usual way, which would just have given her the same name with a different spelling. *sigh* (This family also has a (different) child they swear was born on the 12th who has 21st on her birth certificate...)
So PSA to everyone, whatever you name your kid, make sure the records are all spelled correctly!
We are struggling with middle names. It's harder than first names, IMO. We also can't decide between Jack or Jackson. I think Jackson is too babyish and we would call him Jack anyway. Beckham is just impossible to find a middle name for.
Also, how do you decide which baby gets which name. As they come out? What they look like? I realize this is a rambling FWP.
@nlane0723 With our first, we didn't know if we were having a girl or a boy so we had a bunch of names picked out that we both liked and then we named her when we saw her and spent a couple of hours with her. I'm a super indecisive person so that worked for me--I felt like I could name her after seeing her and being with her for a bit. But everyone does it differently and they do what works for them! Some people have the name all ready to go and that's great too! I think it depends on you.
@nlane0723 I kind of think if ours are both same sex the names will be just whoever comes out first gets that name, like you were saying. But maybe I'll change my mind once I see them next to each other?
edit to add: I prefer Beckham and Jack. And the first mn options that come to mind for Beckham: Louis/Lewis, Paul, Ray, John, Lane, Robert, Joseph
@nlane0723 I think my friends who just had twins determined which was getting which name before they were born based on the doctor's "baby A" and "baby B" labels. But I guess they knew which was coming out first based on their position anyway. I don't know what most people do!
@AllyTheKid Johnny Carter, maybe? Sounds kind of like Cash so your h may like it. Johnny Tucker also comes to mind.
eta: the post below also made me think Johnny Harris is kind of cool.
Johnny Harris is a well known (at least in the BBQ world) maker BBQ sauce. Had this little bun been a boy the first name would have been Harris (my mother's maiden name) so I obviously like it. I also like that's it's not as obvious as Johnny Cash.

I find this take interesting. DD is named for two living family members. They each go by another name (middle or nickname), though. This DD will be named for one deceased aunt and the middle name is the name of each of our (living) same-named aunts. One of the living aunts cried with happiness over the honor when DH told her. I have not told my aunt, yet. (They are Katheryn/Kathryn and DD2 will be Edith Catherine).
Re: Super Awesome Honest Giant Baby Names Thread
@kaessi I love Kaia! Doing a quick search, what about: Alana, Alani, Lea, or Leilani? Hawaiian, but not a stretch from more common names.
just sayin

LOVE Wilder
Love Kai for a girl (and love that you want to pair the one syllable FN with a 3 syllable MN)
Agree that Craven is associated with cowardly- isn't it GoT where this word is always used?
Not a fan of Vauda or Vaudalynn. But I love the idea of honoring your sister with Rae or Rachel (what about Raelynn?)
I also find Kai very masculine.
(this isn't specifically towards the name jackson just an example) the child would still be jackson pronounced
It's a boy!
