  • @Sprinkels28 I LOVE the name Reese. It was on my list but DH doesn't love it.

  • I like Reese! That was my ex-BF's middle name so I wouldn't choose it, but it's a great name

  • I think my most recent favorite is Vivian. I gave up on the idea of choosing a unique name because DH veto'd them all, but I'd still like it to be somewhat unique.

What do you guys think of the popularity of Vivian? Do you know many of them? (I only know one child with the name and it's a client's daughter so not a close acquaintance.)

  • @Sprinkels28 It's a cute name! A girl I went to school with had a baby girl last week and named her Reese so I think of it as a girls name.

  • @Sprinkels28 I also went to school with a girl who named her baby girl Reese last year. I think it's adorable. Plus, I love Reese Witherspoon!

@cd92007 I know one little girl named Vivian and she is the cutest thing! They call her Vivi as a nickname. I think it's a great choice because it's not as common, but it's not unfamiliar either.

  • @Sprinkels28 I also love the name Reese. One of my friends named her daughter Reese about 4 years ago and I haven't heard of another little girl Reese until you just mentioned it :)
  • @cd92007 I have only met one Vivian in my entire life in person, and she was about 70 years old. So I think it's safe to say it's not real popular, at least not in my region, but it's definitely pretty!
  • @Sprinkels28 I like Reese, too! After living in the UK for a while though, I hear it and think boy, spelled Rhys. Unless I think of Reese Witherspoon :)
  • @cd92007 I haven't met any Vivians, but according to the Social Security Administration, it was the 98th most popular baby name in 2014, so it must not be too uncommon.  It's a pretty name.  Very classic.
  • Our top girls names are Elanna and Meeka.
For boys names he like Viktor and Dmitri. I like Peter and Cillian. Biggest problem is matching to our last name.
  • I'm trying to get DH on board with Elias Cruz.

DH wants to keep the 4 letter E names but it's been hard this time around. MIL is Emma, DH is Eric and DS is Enzo. DH has been coming up with super made up names and it's killing me. I already told him it's basically done and that Elias is the name lol

  • @cd92007 I love the name Vivian, it was on our short list for girls. I don't know any Vivians, but I think it's timeless!

  • @cd92007 I LOVE Vivian! I really really wanted to use it myself but DH has no taste whatsoever and vetoed it. Use it so I can live vicariously
  • I don't know anyone with a Vivian, but it's been a popular choice for celebrities the past few years. @Vanessa11411 I love Elias! My dh isn't on board with it either.
  • London Sebastian  (I am from the UK ) Unusual but it's stuck
  • We are still at odds for a middle name. FI brought back Cash, and is toying with Tyler.
    Johnny Tyler
    Johnny Cash
    Johnny Tyler Cash?
I think I give up and am just handing this one over to him.
  • I really want some HONEST thoughts on the name Reese. We always call the baby Reese Cup and then SO mentioned, omg I love the name Reese (not pronounced like the candy, lol!) and I like it too.  I feel like it could go either way for a girl/boy.. I need thoughts!

My son's middle name is Reece and I also like Reese for girl.

  • @Sprinkels28 - My friend just named her son Reece. I'm not a huge fan of unisex names though.

@CD92007 - Another friend named her little girl Vivienne; I like it!

@AllyTheKid - NO to Johnny Cash, haha

@kelliott09 - Hannah Kaye sounds sweet. Karley Kaye sounds like an exotic dancer (IMHO).
  • @AllyTheKid I like Johnny but NOT with the middle name Cash, lol. I like Tyler.

  • FI's idea, not mine! I thought he was over that one but it crawled back out of the woodwork.
    @ecpdvm @emmaaa

I like Tyler. But that is my oldest brother's name, and I have 5 brothers and don't want to deal with the jealousy thing =/ they are grown ass man children when it comes to jealousy. Originally I said NO Tyler, Robert, Beau, Michael, or Levi. Or their middle names. But FI really likes Tyler and it's one of his brothers' middle name and I like it better than any of his other suggestions so far.
  • @AllyTheKid What about Johnny Matthew, Johnny Mark, Johnny Alexander?

  • @emmaaa They just don't have the flow I'm looking for... Johnny is a tough one to pair with =/ I think I'm going to call it quits on brainstorming for a few weeks and see if something just 'clicks'.
  • @allyTheKid You could always decide on the middle name later. Johnny as a first name makes it hard. My little brother is John (goes by John), his middle name is Scott.

  • @AllyTheKid I would ask for more mn ideas over on the baby name board. Off the top of my head, Johnny Thomas, Johnny Ray, Johnny Grey, Johnny Luke, Johnny Paul, Johnny Max, Johnny Troy.

    Ohhhh I like Johnny Grey.

@MRSCORKER I grew up with a girl named Hattie and she has the best personality (not in a "she's unattractive but has a good personality" way haha). She was always so much fun to be around! Love that name.

  • Ok, I posted on here a while back that we had three sweet girl names and zero boy names. So of course we are having a boy. DH is German and we HAVE to give this baby a German name but it's also important to me that it works in English as well. While DH has yet to contribute any names of his own, he went through my list and potentially approved several names. (Writing in pronunciation as well as we will use the German pronunciations.)

    Elias (eh-LEE-ahs)
    Luka (LOO-kah)
    Sebastian (se-BASTCH-en)
    Steffen (SCHTEFF-en)
    Tobias (toe-BEE-ahs)

The following aren't my favorite but have family meaning and are being considered for middle names.
    Alexander (al-ex-ZAHN-dare)
    Konrad (KAHN-rad)

What are your honest American opinions?

Yay! Ok... I mentioned it to a few people and got a weird look. I mean, I don't care if people don't love it but I don't want it to come off as a speshul snowflake name.

I love Luka, Tobias, and Sebastian!

  • @books&icecream Sebastian in on our short list for this baby and I really love Luka.  Tobias was on our short list the first time around.  I think the only ones people might have trouble with are Steffen (I don't think people would get the SCH part and they may also pronounce it Stef-FAWN) and Elias, but even those aren't super unusual or unpronounceable.  I love your choices!
  • @books&icecream I think I mentioned this before but I love Elias and Luka (still so sad DH vetoed). I would lean toward Luka bc Elias will probably have pronunciation issues (I THINK here it's more common to pronounce it el-EYE-ahs).

  • @mrscorker a girl on my first BMB had twins she named Willa and Ari. At first I wasn't so sure about the name Willa, but now I think it's super cute. The full name is Wilhemina.

It's so funny... so my Grandfathers name was Teddy. Not Theodore. His given name was Teddy. Since I've been thinking about names, I've noticed that I love names that are technically nick names. Lottie is supposed to be short for Charlotte but I never considered Charlotte. Hattie is supposed to be short for Harriet but I hate that name and Willa for Wilhemina but that was never an option either. I kinda like the idea of a "Nick name" being used as a given name.

  • @MRSCORKER I really like Willa! It's a sweet name but still unique.

@books&icecream Luca is on our short list, and I think is probably the easiest for both German and American. I also looove Elias and Tobias, but dh vetoed. I think in the U.S. you would get the El-ee-as pronunciation, but Tobias would be Toe-by-us.
