I'm glad to read there's no hate on here for giving up a dog. Some people act as though deciding to own a dog is an iron clad lifetime decision, and although it should not be considered flippantly, if the dog becomes a poor fit for the home I see nothing wrong with finding a home that will better suit the dog and family.
No hate at all! I'm in a similar situation- but with a turtle! I had a friend who had 4 turtles, bought a fifth one out of pity because it was a weird looking turtle that had been at a pet shop for ages. Turned out the weird little turtle doesn't like to share a tank- actually bit one of his other turtles so badly that it died after it's wound got infected. He was ready to just set it free, and I felt so bad for the little stinker, so I agreed to take it in. Well, it's been a struggle. This turtle HATES me. It won't eat consistently, yet it's messy as all hell, and I can't clean it's tank- it's way too heavy to lift and empty the water, and this thing tries to bite me every time! With a baby on the way, and a 1 bedroom apartment, we are not looking to keep a cranky stink-pot turd of a turtle. I still feel awful, but I really need to find another home for him soon I just can't care for him. He needs someone who has the room and knowledge to handle him. Turns out, his species is from South America and it's rare in the US too- so not many people know how to take care of them.
@AnnaS930 I love that idea- what if it's a thread where we post one stupid thing they do, and one good thing they do lol! That way we can vent but remember that they aren't always morons haha! oh and jalapeño popper dip??? Where oh where can I get some of that!?!?
@JennM205 I am also officially jealous! I LOVE dips!!! Sounds so good!!
@LovelyLauren86 OMG please feel free to make more cakes just cause and send them our way! @LakeR2014 and I can meet in the middle and share them in NY!
@mom2adoodle I feel ya. I think I was always excited to see my family members bumps, and my friends, but I never made a big thing about it until they were really, very big. I've noticed that people are noticing mine in the last week. Last Monday I had the first person randomly ask when I'm due- which took me totally off guard. For a moment I just was stupefied, and then I remembered that yes, I am pregnant! My boss commented on my bump Saturday with a "Look at you!!! You're starting to pop!" to which I wanted to snap "yes, and it's my constant reminder of just how badly I really need you to give me that raise you promised months ago already..." And then today when I got to my mom's she got all excited, saying I'm finally starting to have a small bump. I felt like telling her I feel like I look the same as yesterday, when I saw her and I wore the same damned outfit to go walking, but whatever. Then we video chatted with my sister, and my mom made a point to aim the phone at my stomach- which was extra awkward. I'm already expecting people to start with the tummy rubs by Mother's Day. I can't wait to deploy my come-back. I'm 100% going to reach out and rub their bellies right back and see how they react lol!
@lovelylauren86 I am so sorry about your friend's husband. I will pray for her and the little ones.
@AnnaS930 I'm sorry about your friend's loss. Everyone reacts differently but I felt like I needed company. My loss happened over a weekend and my brother took the Monday after off from work and spent it with me. I didn't ask him to, didn't even ask DH, but it helped me so much. DH brought me flowers that night and it was such a sweet, kind gesture. I agree seeing your bump might not be what she needs though, so if you're looking for something else along with the flowers, maybe give her gift certificate for a massage so she can go by herself when she feels up for it. You sound like you're a great friend and that's what one needs at a time like this. I appreciated all the kind words (some people don't know what to say or are plain insensitive) from my family and friends. Kind words, non-dismissal, being there for her when she needs someone else to talk to is all I personally needed.
I caught this terrible cold and woke up this morning with a sore throat, runny nose, headache, sore eyes and body aches. I feel crummy and keep telling DH that I have a man cold as I'm going to be as whiny as I can. I'm not really asking him to do anything for me or to stay with me, just that he has to hear me whine as much as I can. I just want to swallow without pain again
I've been looking at baby cradles on pinterest. I want one. I really like the vintage ones. I'd really like to have somebody make one for me, and then make all the bedding myself. I want something that can be used for any children that I have and someday for my grandchildren.
Suffering from pregsomnia in a hotel room and bed I am sharing with DH and LO. Going crazy. Grateful for loads of threads to comment on since we've been traveling and I haven't been able to bump.
Am I the only one who has not told anyone at work that I'm pregnant?
I'm a middle school teacher and Im pretty sure there's a rumor going around among the kids. I got a weird hug from one kid (like weird enough that after he hugged me I took off my sweater and asked if he wiped snot on me or something) and a student in a different class asked if I had any children and if I planned on having any more, to which I said "my, that's a very personal question."
@LeahKnits- my parents have a cradle that was a gift when my sister was born in 1985, and I used as a baby as well. It was pretty cool to have E sleep in there as a baby when I would go up to visit them for the day
@KimmySchmidt Any reason you haven't told yet? Like your middle schoolers, asking out of curiosity. Once I got my 12 week ultrasound I let my work know. But came to find out there were rumors already at that point, lol. Apparently everyone noticed my caffiene addiction had suddenly gone absent. But by 18 weeks, whether I told or not, my belly would've been telling for me.
I was looking through pictures on my computer of my last pregnancy and said "Oh I think I look pretty similar to how I did in this picture" ... I did the math to figure out how far along I was at that point and figured closer to 27 weeks. Happy with my big ol baby bump, but there is absolutely no hiding/disguising this thing!!
@AnnaS930 It's the same for me. I'm as big now as I was around 28 weeks with my daughter. It makes me wonder what 38 weeks will look like this time. However, I'm not going to be worrying until 34 weeks that people can't tell I'm pregnant this time. Yay for bumps!
I had my bi-weekly appointment yesterday. Fist off, I just want to take a minute to brag about how amazing my OB. I actually kind of adore him. I have never once felt rushed by him. He took all of my questions seriously while, at the same time, making sure to reassure me that I had nothing to worry about. Everything I'm experiencing is normal for a second pregnancy. Secondly, ugh. I have to see a cardiologist. My heart has been racing and the high risk OB was hearing extra beats. It's only precautionary. I was really just hoping to avoid this. However, ending this on a high note, I did get to see both babies wiggling around. Even though we found out the sexes, we never saw proof since we had it written down and put in envelopes. Well, we saw proof yesterday. Neither child is shy and there is no question that we've got a boy and a girl hanging out in there!
I have a question for anyone having multiples. This pregnancy I have run into a lot of women expecting twins, and I think all of them are having a C-section. If you are having multiples, do they automatically perform a C-section, or is it just more likely that you may need one? I was just curious, wasn't sure if it was a coincidence that those I have spoken with are having planned C-sections or something OBs recommend.
@SaraJuul- for my sister they scheduled a planned c-section for her twins. She was involved in the discussions and due to positioning they were concerned about baby #2 having a hard time turning and descending and preferred for her not to labor for the first and eventually need a c-section for the second. She also delivered at a smaller hospital and an old-fashioned OB who seemed more inclined to do things this way.
A friend of mine has identical twin girls and delivered them vaginally. I believe that they shared a sac and came out pretty quickly one after the other. She was really set on not having a c-section for personal reasons and to be honest I found a lot of her pregnancy/birth to be more self-centered than with the babies in mind.
@SaraJuul I don't have much experience with multiples, but I know my husband's cousin had her twins vaginally, so I doubt they automatically perform a c-section. I imagine it's just far more likely given that you need two babies instead of one to be head down, in the right position.
We didn't do a weekend win thread yesterday, so I'm sharing this here. We took DD to a movie in the park on Friday last week. It was so much fun! She didn't really watch the movie much, and we left before it was over, but we all had such a good time! We took a ball for her play with and got her a camping chair of her own to sit on. We also walked there with her in the wagon, which was a huge hit. She enjoyed dancing around, eating cheetos puffs and m&ms, and people watching. I worried a little about her trying to run off, but she stayed right with us. I'm hoping we can make the one next week!

It will more than likely depend on how your twins are positioned. With my first set, DS was Baby A (closest to my cervix) and he was head up. For me to have been able to attempt a vaginal delivery, Baby A had to be head down. At a certain point they just didn't have any room to flip around so they scheduled a c-section (I think I was 32 or 33 weeks) knowing that he, more than likely, would remain head up. They rechecked a week before the scheduled c-section and he was still head up.
Any ideas for healthy, quick (and I mean quick!) breakfast foods on the go? We have chickens which means eggs galore and I find myself trying to run out the door for work every morning and then realizing I haven't eaten yet so, I grab one or two hard-boiled eggs and I'm out the door. Hard-boiled eggs have been great at curbing my hunger, but I know they're high in cholesterol. What are you ladies doing for quick, on the go breakfasts?
@camichael84- I'm so glad you had fun! Emmett loves dancing/cheetos puffs - want to get practice with life with 2 kids? I'll send him your way for a weekend
@Sbrown721 - I often make a batch of steel cut oatmeal in the crockpot on Sunday and just bring a serving to work to heat up when I get here. I wish I could say smoothies, but I just don't have time to blend things up and make that mess in the morning. I bake a lot of muffins that are easy to grab and go, and sometimes make ahead omelets/egg muffins that can be reheated but sounds like you're looking for non-egg ideas!
Usually, I've been doing a bagel or some fruit in the car, but I have in the past made some homemade granola bars with craisins/nuts/honey, etc. Lots of recipes out there, and they are easy enough the throw together on a weekend and have prepped for the week. Also, side note on the eggs, dietary cholesterol has recently been shown to have little to no effect on blood cholesterol levels. Use that as you will, but I wouldn't feel too guilty about the eggs. The extra staying power from the protein prevents you from caving and eating high sugar/fat foods later, anyway!
Thank you! Glad to hear I shouldn't be too concerned about eggs. I love all of your ideas and I will have some free time this weekend to bake some quality meals ahead of the week!
Thank you everyone for your answers, must be coincidence that each of them need C-sections. Whatever you have to do to get those sweet little babies out safely.
@Sbrown721 I make a lot of muffins, my kids love them as well. Whatever the recipe I substitute coconut oil for the oil, whole grain flour, and honey for the sweetener. I also will add flax or chia seed. Typically muffins have a lot of sugar and refined flour so I make them healthy. I also do homemade granola bars, they are simple and so many recipes online. I keep peanut butter at work, so I will also bring whole grain English muffins or a bagel. Greek yogurt with granola and fruit. These are all things you can have prepped over the weekend for an easy grab and go. I have also started buying plain greek yogurt and sweetening it with honey. I'm a big believer in avoiding the "white" stuff as much as possible, ie refined flour and sweeteners.
Sooooon of a bitch I forgot to wear a bra today. I put my on lipstick nice and meticulously, made sure not to forget any jewelry, did my hair, felt pretty decently about myself ... and no bra. It took me about 10 minutes after getting to work to notice it, too. I knew I felt too free and unconstrained.
I couldn't leave myself (have a remote session going on for a little bit) so I had to have my husband bring me a bra. He's a trooper. Poor guy, poor boobs.

I could go to sleep right now, and it's only 12:30. Ugh, exhauuuusted. My husband and I are both off tomorrow, I'd like to say maybe he'll wake up with the kiddo (which he totally would) but my body will not stay in bed past 7am regardless. Luckily I pick E up from daycare today so I'm only at work for 3 more hours... but that feels impossible right now. Must get up and walk to wake up (and I forgot my damn fitbit at home after giving E his bath last night! WAH!)
@Thurstobertay - I'm sorry but this had me cracking up! I'm glad your husband was sweet enough to bring you a bra though. It would drive me crazy to be bra-less all day!
@AnnaS930 Hahaha I'm terrible about my bras! It's usually the last thing I put on and only begrudgingly. I'm not endowed in that department at all. It's also about the first thing to come off at the end of the day (with such force that it's shot off the wall on a few occasions).
@UnwritteN12 Yes! He's a trooper. I think I need to talk him out to lunch today as thanks.

Popping in to share my excitement over the first stranger noticing my bump. It was the sheriff deputy who was wanding me after I set off the metal detector coming into the courthouse. (I'm a lawyer for those keeping up.)

That looks amazing! Do you bake professionally or as a hobby? Either way I'm impressed...and hungry!

as for fast breakfast ideas, I usually do a toasted bagel thin with peanut butter or instant oatmeal if I'm really in a hurry.
