I'm decluttering my house right now. Someone save me. We have so much crap. I felt like I had it handled but when you get going through cupboards and closets you realize how stuff piles up.
Guys I'm not having a good day. Rlp is real today and either a)I'm extra sensitive b)husband is grumpy or c) a little of both. I've already managed to cry and make him feel bad but I can't find a comfortable position to lay/sit/stand where I don't feel like my uterus is going to explode in pain. I fell asleep last night freaking out about our lack of space for the baby and how we are going to re-arrange our bedroom to fit the crib and the dresser and how we have a stationary bike that we don't use but he doesn't want to get rid of it. We are both not very neat and I'm really worried about what is going to happen when the baby gets here and we have twenty times more stuff. And we have our follow up a/s and im not even excited because we invited my mom and she's driving me up a wall. I know she means well but sometimes I wish we didn't live in the same city so that I didn't have to feel guilty if I don't invite her to things like the ultrasounds. Ugh. Sorry for the giant wall of text, I'm having a hard time with life today
@Soon2bemissG - oh man. DH and i have SO MUCH CRAP! And most of it is DH's which makes it tough for me to go through and sort. Like how I do I know if you need this random tool bit or if it's crap and can be tossed. Our whole basement is just full of old junk and our garage is the exact same.
I, too, have had more people noticing. But, oddly enough, no one says anything. A few times, I've come around a corner and someone has done a double-take or blatantly just stared at my belly. This has happened a couple of times now! Eventually, they avert their eyes to my face and say Hi or whatever. I'm showing a LOT so I can't tell if they're trying to figure out if I'm pregnant (which to me is a pretty obvious YES) or maybe they're pretty sure but are deciding if I'm showing "enough" to say something? I honestly don't mind, I do the same thing (check out my bump everytime I'm in a mirror). It's just such a strange and almost unexpected phenomenon, even though I distinctly remember the same from my first pregnancy.
@ThurstobertayHa! I can honestly say I've never left the house accidentally without a bra! But, these days, I wouldn't put it past me! So great your H was able to help you out!
@JennM205 I too wonder if people are mentally assessing if I'm showing enough to say anything. I've only had one comment but I *think* I see people looking. I work at different schools so I see a LOT of people who should know what I typically look like. I could also be paranoid and trying to be an AW lol!
@PoodleDoodleOoo Random but I don't think I've ever asked you- what kind of poodle do you have? I have a labradoodle who is a service animal as well She is almost 2! She's a medium so she's about 30lbs.
He is a standard poodle! He's about 25 inches tall (at the shoulder) and around 50-55lbs. He's a bit of a princess and hates cold weather and wet grass and he loves sunshine and that after-bath clean feeling. We shave down his poofy hair since DH hates the "poodle" look and a lot of people are surprised he's just a standard poodle and not a doodle combo!
DH and I got some exciting news from the OB today! Baby's due date has been moved from 10/1 to 9/22! I knew I belonged on this board! the best part is now we can schedule the a/s even sooner!! I posted on the due date board, but I know a lot of people don't read that!
edited because the bump deleted half of my post and now won't let me add it back
@PoodleDoodleOoo Ugh, my DH hates the poodle look too!!! I want a poodle to go with our doodle but DH doesn't like the "froo froo" look. I happen to love it lol! But I do tell him it's owner choice and not all poodles look like that. My doodle is actually black and white so many assume she is a parti-poodle due to her markings. So you've got a big guy! If it makes you feel better my girl is a complete princess. We always say if we had one word to describe her it would be "DRAMA"
@Thurstobertay I have totally done that too! When I quit caffein (for medical reasons) a few years ago there was a bit of a rough patch. No bra, shirt inside out, mismatched earrings/socks/shoes: I did 'em all!
@cassloumy- out of pure curiosity, what moved the due date up? I've never heard of one moving after the really early dating ultrasound since rates of growth vary so widely after that. I am in no way at all doubting the movement, just really interested (also, I usually comment when people ask if their due date will change with this same explanation that it almost never does based on size after the dating US, so I need more info to be more accurate!!)
I'm decluttering my house right now. Someone save me. We have so much crap. I felt like I had it handled but when you get going through cupboards and closets you realize how stuff piles up.
I used to keep so much stuff. Over the last year I just keep getting rid of things. If I haven't touched it in a year, and its not for holidays/special occasions or is sentimental it goes. I think part of it is because I want to move in the next year and don't want to take a bunch of junk with me!
Me: 32 DH: 31
TTC #2 since January 2018
Baby #1 DD Born 8/25/2016 BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18
@AnnaS930 Yeah, I thought the same as you. My OB will only move my due date if I am measuring bigger/smaller than a week. I am currently exactly a week bigger but no move on date. I had a very very early dating scan (like 5 weeks 3 days early due to previous loss) and was told that was the most accurate they were going to get all pregnancy with date. I thought that was interesting. It's also interesting because it means I ovulated earlier than I thought I did (I was temping and using OPKs) so that sent me for a mind-trip. But I digress.
@AnnaS930I'm not entirely positive since I know babies start to grow at different rates around week 14.
My guess is that my OB's office chose to change it because the center I went to for the nuchal translucency ultrasound has much more advanced ultrasound equipment than my OB's office does. Thanks to a scheduling mishap I had the n/t directly before my last regular OB visit at which I was assumed to be around 13 weeks, so the info from the test wasn't back yet when I was there. On top of that doctor I saw today did the only ultrasounds I've had that OB's office at 8wks and 10wks based on LMP, and she's admitted that she's not the best sonographer.
lol @cassloumy- fair enough! Must been from that NT scan as you're thinking. My only warning will be that given the estimation of due dates, don't be shocked to still be pregnant come October! lol! But please, stay here in September, none of my questioning is in hopes of booting you out of the month, I swear!
I can't remember where we were discussing our emerging bumps, but am I the only one whose feeling super self-conscious about it? I know I'm pregnant, and my husband says my little bump is so cute, but I just feel fat and blah and I really just want to tuck it in (an impossible feat, mind you).
@AnnaS930 no worries! I'm not offended at all! It threw me for a loop that they'd change it too! I knew DH and I didn't do any baby dancing at all around the time they were saying I conceived, so I am glad to go along with the new date.
As we were leaving DH said "watch this baby go 42 weeks out of spite!"
@SaraJuul I do not have multiples, but I remember this from my birthing class. After the first twin is born, there is a lot more space. Often the second twin will flip around and be in a position where it cannot be born vaginally. The teacher said that when they do vaginal births with multiples they have nurse holding (from the outside, pushing on mom's tummy) the second baby in place while the first is delivered.
@mom2adoodle - I'm curious - what sort of service dog is your doodle? Mine is hearing assist - he alerts me to specific sounds and helps me get my bearings out in public (if that makes sense). It's crazy how many different ways dogs can help us!
@PoodleDoodleOoo I feel exactly the same way! I have not quite embraced my body at this point.
@SaraJuul My bf delivered her twins vaginally and with no meds. They had her deliver in the OR just in case. Her birth story was great: After Baby A came out, at some point between contractions she noticed everyone staring and felt something funny -- she blurted out "are there baby bits hanging out of me??" which cracked the whole room (full of docs/nurses/peds) up and broke the tension. Baby B's legs and feet were dangling outside kicking. She was out on the next push. The other 3 sets of twins I know were c-sections.
In another crazy story, when my mom's best friend gave birth to her 3rd son in the early '80s, she was shocked when her 4th son came out right after. Can you imagine not knowing you were going to have twins until they showed up??
@Sbrown721 no decision yet. Luckily the opening doesnt need to be filled until June so I have some time. I feel like there's a ping pong match in my head while I'm trying to decide
It seems as if so many of you are talking about your bumps and people beginning to notice...I haven't popped yet. I don't look pregnant at all. I just look chubbier than normal. This is my second, so I thought I would show earlier. Guess not. From the digestive pains I have been having, I think baby is riding in the back all nuzzled in the intestines...
@Sbrown721 As others have said already, don't worry about the cholesterol in eggs -- they are very healthy to eat every day! The ratio of the two types of cholesterol in them is actually ideal so they really don't affect your blood cholesterol at all.
Also, I just made some great little "energy bites" this weekend using oats, ground up almonds, peanut butter, cranberries, maple syrup (or you could use honey), and almond extract. They are delicious and a couple of those would be just as satisfying as a couple hard boiled eggs I think if you're looking for a change every now and then!
@marajay6 I haven't really "popped" yet either, but I'm still early and on my first. I can see it myself, and my belly definitely looks bigger, but if people don't know I'm sure they just think I'm getting fatter. Everyone at work knows now so at least I'm not quite as self conscious as I was before we announced!
@marajay6 - I look pregnant to those that know me and know my tummy is usually pretty flat (exception - lots of burritos), but I just look fat to those who don't know me or what I normally look like.
I had a stranger comment on my bump for the first time on Saturday. We were at Staples buying a new computer chair and the woman working checkout (who was pregnant herself) asked me how far along I was. No hesitation. So I apparently either look very obviously pregnant now or she was more confident considering she's got a bump, too.
She was nice about it (I'm so afraid of the nasty comments other people get) and said I was cute and going to carry it well. I think she might have been surprised by my size to weeks ratio as a FTM (although people I know - except my MIL - keep telling me I'm small/tiny, but they know there's two buns in this oven) until I said it was twins, although she didn't comment on it, but it's hard to tell and might have been my imagination.
Funnily enough, DH couldn't tell that she was pregnant (she said she was 7 months, but was wearing a non-maternity button-down shirt that sort of made her look fluffy instead of pregnant), but I could. Maybe it does take one to know one sometimes.
I'm surprised it's taken this long since I'm small all over with a distinct round belly (can't tell from behind). It was bump-shaped 6 weeks ago, but I guess it still looked like too many burritos to people who didn't know me even though it looked nothing like bloat to me.
@mom2adoodle@Sbrown721 I'd be happy to share the recipe!! I actually just threw them together this weekend without measuring anything, but liked them so much I was planning on re-doing them and measuring so that I can post the recipe on my blog. As soon as I do that, I'll share with you ladies! Just don't want to give you off measurements.
Also, one of you asked, I actually don't cook the oats-- just mix everything together, form the bites into balls or squares, and refrigerate!
@mom2adoodle Not sure if this is commonplace but our pediatrician offered a mini meet and greet once a month specifically for expectant parents. It was held after hours and was hosted by one of the practicing doctors. We got a tour of the facility, specific information about their vaccination practices, hours, after-hour sick care, etc and had ample time to ask questions. It was really great! If you find places that do this, take advantage! An in-person visit is the best way to gauge how a practice operates and you can go with your gut from there!
@JennM205 What the heck! The offices I called have done nothing like that. Is it a private clinic? We go through Stanford's system so maybe it's more company/number based
@abberson oh my, that story is funny of the breach twin coming out of your friend. She had 6 more kids after that?????? The whole "3 sets" comment is throwing me off.
@mom2adoodle I'm not sure if the practice is "private" or not...they are affiliated with the local hospital, I know. Not sure if it's a regional thing (we live in a fairly heavily populated area) but I know a lot of practices around here offer the meet and greets. We didn't go on any others, though... We had another one scheduled but cancelled it after the first one. (The pediatrician had already been highly recommended by a good friend and the thorough meet and greet sealed the deal!)
@RedMar haha! Oh no! I just have 3 other sets of friends with twins, and they all had CS. The first was just a recent example of a friend who delivered vaginally.
@KimmySchmidt Any reason you haven't told yet? Like your middle schoolers, asking out of curiosity. Once I got my 12 week ultrasound I let my work know. But came to find out there were rumors already at that point, lol. Apparently everyone noticed my caffiene addiction had suddenly gone absent. But by 18 weeks, whether I told or not, my belly would've been telling for me.
My job is part time right now. It's opening up to full time starting in September. So I figure if they know I'm pregnant it could only hurt my chances (even though, of course it shouldn't) but why serve up a reason to be discriminated against? They'll hire in May/June. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow, I don't know how much longer I can hold out.
For the multiple people talking about their bump size vs looking fat / you've eaten too many cheeseburgers...today someone at my office just learned I was pregnant. He congratulated me and commented that he'd "seen me last week and thought man, she's getting super fat!"
Highlight of my day
I recounted to my fiancé when I got home and we were both amazed that some people have zero filter.
DH wants to use my maiden name as LO's middle name, but I really don't want to...Mostly, I just don't think my maiden name lends itself well to being a middle name, and I don't think it goes well with our last name now. Only thing is, this is the first baby issue he's had a concrete stand on, so I don't want him to feel like I'm not letting him be a part of it. I figure for now I'll just let the issue rest, since ultimately a middle name is never really used. Maybe by September one of us will have changed our minds?
