@LakeR2014 That happened to some really close family friends of mine. My plan is to tell the tech first, and ask her to find the baby before turning on the screen for us. That way, she can try to censor out any obvious genitals before DH and I take a look. Worst case, we get to know early, but I'm really hoping to keep it a "birthday" surprise!
ETA: Aw...I just realized as I posted that means that LO's name would be their very first birthday present, if Team Green works out!
@AnnaS930Haha - your little one was already all about being a boy, so cute! Yes, I plan on averting my eyes until they tell us it's safe to look....the hard problem, ensuring the my DH also averts his eyes, as he'd love to know, but is going team green for me. 2.5 weeks to go!!!
@Jabreenbrilliant! I'll plan on asking if that can happen too. It's not a bad thing and the monitor we see is just a large TV so shouldn't be an issue. I also melted as your 'very first birthday present' comment, so excited!!!
@AnnaS930 yeah it was super annoying to have both of them call and talk about me to other people..esp with something I consider private but now I know better.
Thank you, thank you! My appt was supposed to be today, so now postponed. But I'm looking forward to it because I haven't been since November and that was marriage counseling. We quit going out of inconvenience so this will be good for me, and I'd also like to avoid PPD if possible. Ha! I don't feel older but I totally used to dread my 30s and now I'm looking for to this "next stage" of being older. Maybe I'll be done having kids by 30 and I can really just enjoy them. :-P
@Soon2bemissG-Woohoo!!! Congrats!!!! I hardly have the will power to wait during the scan to get to that area.. anyone who walks out with an envelope is better than me!
Congrats @Soon2bemissG!!! @AnnaS930 it's so funny on the will power thing. My fear about the A/S is that they'll start the ultrasound and it'll immediately give us a shot where we can tell if its a boy or girl. We're full on team green now, and I plan to announce that as soon as I see the US tech, but I can't stop imagining that the first image that pops up is baby spread eagle being all 'I want you to stop calling me 'It', here's what I am, now give me a name!' Lol.
At my anatomy scan with DS, the tech asked us if we wanted to know before getting started. We said yes, she put the wand on me and we immediately saw a very clear crotch shot. It didn't take a trained eye to see that it was a boy. I said "Good thing we wanted to know" and the tech assured us that when the parents don't want to know she has them look away initially because it isn't uncommon for the crotch view to be the first one.
@LakeR2014- oh yes, and that's still where his hands go when he gets the chance. I try to redirect him during diaper changes (because.. diaper cream and poop aren't things I need on his hands.. obviously) but allow him to discover himself in the tubby. I just keep washing his little body while he reaches and tugs and whatever down there. I try to stop him if he seems to be scratching himself but otherwise a kid's gotta learn about their body and he's in a diaper 99% of the time without access. The humor of the tech definitely lightened the mood when I was so hopeful to get a clearer shot on the 2nd ultrasound and still did not.
2.5 weeks for you, and 2 days for me!! Wednesday afternoon we get to check on 2.0 and I can't wait! Haven't seen him/her since the 8 week dating ultrasound.. hoping after Wednesday to be able to start using the sex-appropriate pronoun! FUN!
I have specifically asked my husband to be extra positive and excited about our anatomy scan on Wednesday (though since my complaint last week has has been noticeably more interested/attentive/whatever you want to call it.) ... I have been looking forward to it for the entire pregnancy thus far but with news of my best friend's loss I'm struggling a bit with feelings of guilt over being excited/happy. I know that the second that monitor turns on and I am looking at my growing baby the rest of the world will melt away and I will be in absolute bliss, but needing some extra support from him as I get through the grief and remorse for my friend - and he's delivering. Yay for good husbands.
If we start up a husband/significant other complaint thread, we should also start up a significant other praise thread - little things that they do that turn the day around or make you love them a little more than you thought you could.
And on that cheesey note, I suggest people who like lovey/cutesy lyrics to check out "This is Why I Need You" by Jesse Ruben, it's getting a lot of play on Coffeehouse on XM and is just a really adorable love song. (I am OBSESSED with lyrics, and can miss an entire part of a show/movie because I'm so into the background music)
@AnnaS930 The thing about the leak is we did turn the water off!! The pipe burst after the shutoff valve but before the exterior of the house. So they said when you shut the water off make sure to go outside and drain whatever residual water may still be in the line. I guess you live and you learn, we did it halfway correct.
Exactly 24 hours from now, I'll be having my anatomy scan! I keep having thoughts of having the tech write down the sex and keep it in an envelope, but I know myself and that would never work. I was 100% content with being team green this time around until last night. I did have the genetic testing, so I could always ask my doc for the sex results if I change my mind. I hope I stay strong tomorrow. I'd love to experience that delivery room surprise just once!
Just catching up here today - @lovelylauren86and @AnnaS930 So sorry to hear of your friends' troubles (that word doesn't even do either situation justice). My thoughts are with them and you as well as I'm sure you'll do anything a friend can to see them through it.
@LakeR2014 Team Green here - we had our a/s last week and told the technician right away that we'd prefer not to find out. Baby is a mover, though, so I mentioned that he/she might have a different agenda (as I'd heard stories of just that!) She assured me that she would be very careful and didn't even turn the screen towards me until the wand was down and she knew what was going on. Turns out we probably couldn't have found out even if we wanted to - baby was in a very strange position, all curled up and didn't move at all! (Must have been naptime!) Luckily, the tech was able to get the images she needed (after some difficulty) but looks like LO wants to be Team Green just as much as we do!
@TNgoldengirl Happy belated birthday and well wishes to your LO to get better soon!
@SaraJuul Oh no! Now I'm worried...we didn't turn off the water to our exterior spigots. This was our first winter in a single family home. Fingers crossed... And good luck to you in the cleanup/aftermath!
My random for the day is that I had a ROUGH morning. DD just was NOT in the mood for the routine. Fought me every step of the way, was throwing MAJOR fits, the whole deal. I literally have never seen her that bad! Sure, there are good days and bad days but today was, without a doubt, the WORST morning she has ever had since she was born. I was late to work and a mess by the time I arrived, both physically and emotionally exhausted from the ordeal. The whole drive to work, I kept thinking, "Please, please, let this day get better!" Then, got to work, walked in and saw a bunch of food on our team tables and remembered - it's DIPOFF day!!! (Teammates all made and brought in dips which I and two other people taste-tested to judge the winner.) Hallelujah! That turned my day around fast!
I feel so blah today. We had a busy weekend, and I think I'm just mentally and physically exhausted right now. The weather is still gorgeous so I'm hoping the sunlight shining in will make me feel better. Need to get DD out at some point so she can enjoy the beautiful day.
@AnnaS930 Yes! There were so many good dips - simple things like a homemade salsa and a cucumber ranch dip for vegetables...all the way up to a jalepeno popper dip (my favorite, I think), a pizza dip, buffalo chicken dip, "crack" dip (think warm, sausage-y, very yummy), tyrokafteri dip (red-pepper, cheesy, hummus consistency served with warm pita and veggies), even an apple pie dip served with graham crackers. It was all so good; judging was hard! In the end, the apple pie dip won partially because it was delicious but also because of originality - the only dessert dip brought it.
@LizC216 There's enough food for the whole department to have lunch! I think for the first time in my pregnancy (since the nausea ended, anyway), I'm actually full! The dipoff judging started at 10:30 am and I'm still sitting here, in no mood for the healthy lunch I brought because I ate so much, lol!
@JennM205- 2 of my favorite dips that I make are jalapeno popper and pizza dip! YUMMMMMMMMMMM! Now I want some version of dip SO BAD. We have tortilla chips at home.. Maybe I can make a little personal-sized pizza dip tonight
Does anyone have any information on chewing gum while pregnant? I'm a bit confused. I don't want to chew gum with aspartame in it...I am normally a huge gum chewer and I always forget to ask my midwife about this. I've had Extra spearmint gum when I really feel like it. Am I ok to chew any gum? Is sugar-free good or bad? Thanks, ladies!
I should not have read the latest posts before my lunch. Currently salivating wanting some pizza dip. I have never had it but it sounds divine. FEED ME NOW.
@Sbrown721Aspartame and sucralose (Splenda) are safe for pregnancy. Saccharin (Sweet N' Low) is not safe. Otherwise, I can't think of any reason gum would be bad.
I spent my Sunday making a 3 layer vanilla cake with vanilla bean custard filling and fresh strawberry sauce, with vanilla buttercream. Just because. Now I have a giant cake to eat
@lovelylauren86 YOU'RE KILLIN' ME!! That cake looks unreal! Omg if it was in my kitchen on Sunday that would be gone today! Nice work! Where'd you get the recipe?
@Sbrown721 - Jabreen hit the nail on the head as to which artificial sweeteners are safe and not! Chew on, my friend!
@mom2adoodle - for my pizza dip I usually soften and spread an 8ounce block of cream cheese into a pie dish (maybe add some garlic powder and oregano to it first), then a good thick layer of pizza sauce, and top it with a lot of cheese - shredded mozz and some shaker parmesan, whatever else (I've heard it's fantastic with pepperonis but couldn't tell ya). Bake that at 375 for maybe 20 minutes - it will be bubbly, hot as molten lava and the top cheese nicely browned. Let it cool a bit and dive in (perfect for tostitos scoops!) SO. GOOD.
@lovelylauren86 - Your desserts continue to be beautiful, I would pay for that quality of work - every consider doing some small jobs from your house in baking? In Maine, it's super easy to get a license to sell food from your home (but might not be in other states)
Also - although my weekend in NYC was pretty hellish, I have to say for those who asked - the show She Loves Me is FANTASTIC. A revival from the 60s (the play that You've Got Mail) was based on - they've kept the time period but also modernized it quite a bit. Right now it is starring Jane Krakowski (who usually annoys me but was amazing) and Zachary Levi - who is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. The sets were beautiful and show was a great mix of a love story, a lot of humor and good music.
I also ran into Woody Harrelson after the show.. like literally almost rammed him with my big ol' belly. He gave me a really endearing smile and I played it really cool and gave an embarrassed smile and kept on waddling away.
@AnnaS930 I wondered how the show went! Glad to hear it was good! And it sounds like you played off running into Woody Harrelson better than I probably would have.
@camichael84 - I was thinking to myself woah! This guy looks just like Woody Harrelson as I approached a little too close .. then when he smiled and I saw the tooth gap there was absolutely no mistaking him. I think it all happened too fast to really react.
So I posted in another thread that someone asked me if I was pregnant. Which means I am starting to look it! As opposed to just having mexican food for breakfast/lunch/dinner. My friends keep asking me "Are you starting to show!? I can't wait to see you with a bump!" since they do not live close enough to see me. Is it just me or is it odd for people to want to see you with a bump? I suppose it's sweet but I still scratch my head at it. I have never hoped nor waited eagerly for anyone's bump to develop (other than my own) so it's just bizarre for me lol. Anyone agree/disagree? Is it that people think pregnant women are cute? I mean, I've never thought they were not cute, but never thought they were indeed the cutest ever.
@mom2adoodle I LOVE bumps, so I always look forward to my friends and family showing. I've never told anyone that I couldn't wait to see their bump, but I still felt that way. I don't know what it is, maybe just that I know it's a baby growing in there, but rounded pregnant bellies have always been beautiful to me.
@mom2adoodle I have always loved seeing bumps! I have also always been secretly jealous of women with bumps! I cannot wait until I start to show a bit more and people start asking if I'm pregnant! I think that's so fun that people are already starting to comment on yours!
@mom2adoodle I'm with you on this.. Bumps are cute, but definitely not the cutest ever. I actually feel really awkward with anyone talking about mine... And I don't do pics with it. I'm just super awk all around though. Haha
I mentioned a while ago that my doc had my appt for the week before my anatomy scan, so I wouldn't see her until 3 weeks after it. WELL, my son has the stomach flu so I had to cancel my appt for tomorrow, and reschedule for next Tuesday (day after anatomy scan day!) so hopefully she'll have results and such after that.
Wife to A; Mama to C (2009), N (2011), H (2014) & baby F due 09/16/16
So this one likely wasn't as delicious (and definitely not as professional looking!) as @lovelylauren86 's beautiful cake, but I spent most of Sunday making my first layer cake. Fortunately, my judges (my now 3yo! And her buds) were delighted and I have leftover cake for weeks.
Just catching up after a loooong day followed by a 2 hr nap! @lovelylauren86 and @AnnaS930how awful for both of your friends and their families. I'll be thinking of them and that you all can provide as much comfort as you can.
My ankles are swollen. Waaaah. Chugging water and no longer nothing on the chips and guac I was hoping for tonight. Pregnancy just got real up in here, summer is going to be a bitch, even in Maine.
