  • @blondie080300 My normal face wash has salicylic acid in it. I switch between that and The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil face wash. I was using the tea tree oil one pretty full time, but then I feel like its effectiveness wears off so I switch to the salicylic one. I actually didn't know about the salicylic acid thing until later in my second pregnancy. My doc didn't seem too concerned.

  • @blondie080300 I switched from Neutrogena to Cetaphil and use it with a clarisonic. Luckily I haven't been as breakout prone as I was before pregnancy!
  • I like burts bees sensitive face wash too. It does feel awfully cream-like going on, but it rinses off nicely and is super gentle.

  • @blondie080300 - I love the charcoal soap that I use. I've been ordering it through Etsy. @MojieJo is absolutely right about it drying out your face though. I just keep a great moisturizer on hand.

  • Has anyone else's kid gone through sleep trouble around 1 1/2 years?  My cousin warned me of an 18 month sleep regression and I shrugged it off since DS is a very good sleeper. Well bedtime has been horrific the last two nights with 1 hour plus of crying before he goes down. Since he is such a good sleeper, we are not well trained in our methods to comfort him and get him to sleep. We got desperate tonight and eventually just put him in his crib with a bottle of warm milk. I know your not supposed to let them sleep with a bottle, but it worked.

  • @LizC216 - Just reading that made me really upset for you. I'm sorry your friend's kid is being a punk. And I know from experience how hard it can be to speak up for fear of causing waves. But I've definitely learned that no one can stick up better for my kids than me. Well, and DH.

I echo what @LeahKnits said about the kids following your rules in your home. When he's at your house, I say it's your rules (including timeouts minus the iPhone) or he doesn't need to be there.

I'd love to say sit down with your friend and have even a heart to heart, but I know it's easier said than done. If you can though, I think know you need to express to her that it's completely unacceptable that he is hurting your kids. Maybe it's time for the kids to have a break from eachother too. I mean, it's great if the adults can get together, but I don't think that her kids needs to be part of it all for a little bit. Just my opinion.

    Good luck!

  • @Thurstobertay YAS! I dyed my hair purple to pink ombre before I found out I was prego, and let it fade during the first trimester. Now I'm mostly blonde again, but once we find out the sex of this little stinker, I'm adding some bright color to my hair. I have a feeling it's a boy, which means some fun bluish hair ;)

  • My Monday bitch/random is that I HATE talking about money with my husband. And it's not because I like to go shop and don't want to hear him whine about it. I deal with all the money and pay the bills and he just has an unrealistic expectation of what we can save every month and it drives me crazy!! He acts like it just disappears into thin air and he doesn't know how! Um groceries and food in Hawaii are freaking outrageous. Sorry I stay home all day and we go through a lot of food eating all our meals here. It's not like I'm out getting my hair and nails done! Ugh.

Anyone else have a financially stupid spouse??
YUP! Mine will run out to stores and buy stupid crap, nothing expensive, but stupid crap. If I buy groceries he tweaks out about what I spend. Sorry dude, healthy food is expensive! And like you, I'm not rocking nice new things or getting my nails done. It's called life- they just don't get it. UGH!

  • @UnwritteN12 Thank you for the thoughtful comments. Our other mutual friend (who had issues with the kid in the past) actually suggested the same. Just the adults hanging out and keeping the kids out of it. It really stinks, but it might just have to be that way until things change.

And you're right, I'm the best one to stick up for my girls.

The other crappy thing is his behavior is now making me have bad feelings towards my friend. So that tells me I need to say something before our friendship gets damaged.

  • @marajay6 my son didn't really have a regression at 18 months (which is shocking because he is only recently a decent sleeper) but a lot of kids in my August 14 group went through it.  It lasted a week or two and they just had to ride it out like all the other ones.  Sleep is like the hardest parenting thing ever.

  • @SarahMConnors thank god I'm not the only one! Everytime we go out he wants to get a little something here and a little something there... That shit adds up quick over a months time. Idk how to get him to see the big picture. I guess men just aren't wired that way!

A little early in the week for a confession but I am currently laying in bed eating popcorn because DH waited until I went to bed to make it but when I smelled the delicious popcorn smell I made him bring me some

  • Face wash with sacylic acid is not bad because it doesn't sit or get absorbed into your skin. Just make sure your moisturizer doesn't have it and you will be fine. I know without mine, I would look more like a pre-pubescent teenager than I do now
  • I use a neutrogena scrub, but SA wouldn't scare me away from a product.
The drive by posts are irritating, if you're concerned... call your doctor for medical advice. If they minimize your fears, drive yourself to the ER or find another provider and explain your urgency in needing to be seen.

Great advice on the scratching phase everyone, thank you. The book is showing up tomorrow and husband and I are ready to be much more consistent and will align our strategies with his daycare workers.

I wrote all of this (and more) last night then "didn't have permission" to post. I hate the app so much.

Good morning, ladies. Any suggestions for a "yay I'm so excited you're pregnant" gift for a friend I've known since preschool? This is her first pregnancy and she's a month behind me. Unfortunately she lives 3000 miles away.

  • I was really happy just to get a couple of cards when we announced last time. A few nice bath products shipped directly to her might be nice, or a few gourmet snacks... something focused on her while pregnant.

Different site.  I think I lurked at the beginning on here but didn't stick around.

  • @PSUBecky23 I agree with @AnnaS930, something that would focus on her while she's pregnant! A pre-natal massage at a spa local to her, a mani-pedi package, some bath products, and yes to the gourmet snacks too! I'd really appreciate something that made me feel "pretty" or more like myself, or that gave me "me time", since as we've all been experiencing the hit to the self image can be really powerful these days!
  • @AnnaS930 I hope the no scratching thing goes well with Emmett. We've been dealing with trying to teach nice hands, too. It's more hitting and pulling hair with DD. She's not doing to to be exploratory, but because she thinks it's a game/we are playing. I know this is a stage that we will get past, but it's not particularly fun.

  • @PSUBecky23 A nice little care package would be thoughtful (maybe through amazon?)! It stinks that she's so far away. Some of my suggestions would be: Bio Oil, "The Shit No One Tells You" book or something similar, or maybe a pregnancy journal? I personally loved "from pea to pumpkin".
  • That moment you're completely overtired, being stupid with DH, laughing like crazy and pull a muscle in your abdomen from laughing too hard. Anyone? No? Just me? Ok then.
    Yes, this really happened....

  • @marajay6 our son who was a fantastic sleeper got so bad around 20 months. We ended up having him sleep with us for a month or so. He would just keep crying and crying and would fight so hard. Once we made him sleep in his own crib a month and a half later he only had to self soothe for 5ish minutes! I'm not sure if that's for everyone. But we had to do that for a while. He now naps in our bed and sleeps at night in his crib with the occasional middle of the night wake up with us either rocking him back to sleep or bringing him in with us.
@LizC216 I definitely pull the "we don't do that in this house. You will sit here by yourself unless you can be nice. My nieces can be naughty. I'll always tell my sister what they did too. Sort of jokingly "like oh it was fine but she did do this" a sister is easier than a not very strict parent friend though.

I hope it doesn't get that bad for us. Getting him to sleep is our problem -  DS slept well through the night after we finally got him to sleep last night. Putting him in bed with us won't work during that timeframe since his bedtime is between 7:00 - 7:30 and DH and I stay up past 9.  I hope it only lasts a short time like @mamadomino said!

  • @JennM205 Yay, happy anatomy scan day!! I'm sure your daughter will be great. Enjoy! Hopefully your little one lets you get a glimpse at the sex :)
  • I have no idea why I never looked at this post before. I've missed so much! Almost 1000 post is way to many to try to catch up on! I'll obviously need to start checking this all the time.

  • @marajay6 I definitely remember a sleep regression around that time that lasted a couple weeks. Ours was middle of the night though. We had to resort back to limited CIO. Good luck!

  • @kosmo86 Oh No! Obviously they're still happy and excited to for their baby to arrive, but all the planning they had put into it for the last 36 weeks. Everything they've purchased, shower gifts, and imagining your family 1 way for so long to realize it was not accurate. Well they have a story they can tell!
