Re: April Randoms Thread

  • @LeahKnits Thanks!  I'm sure I'll be posting a bunch to vent and/or celebrate as we move closer to September.  It seems so far away, and really soon at the same time!

@poodledoodleooo Usually, it looks like they get kind of forgotten, but every time someone starts one they get busy!  TMI Tuesday is running today, but if you have one you want to vent, feel free to start the thread!  I did that last week for UO Thursday (although it got a bit beyond the scope I'd imagined!)

  • @MojieJo - That's awesome! Next week!!! The guesses were at least 1 boy, perhaps both? Am I remembering that correctly?

  • @annas930 Yep, you're correct!  She was pretty positive one's a boy and thought the other "might" be, but wasn't sure since he/she wouldn't move into position.

We're hoping to be team purple, but I'll be thrilled no matter what.

  • @MojieJo That's great. So you go in expecting both to be boys, and either get the confirmation and it's what you're expecting, or are surprised with team purple (which is perhaps the slightliest of slightly more preferred if you had the choice, by the world's smallest smidgen.. but won't matter either way once you know the news and are over the moon). I totally get it. ;)

  • @AmMcc12 Just saw your signature gif for the first time on the "Where do you live" thread (I'm often mobile-bumping).  That would be so horrible!!!  I would be livid!  Haha.

  • @annas930 Yep, basically!  I'm just so excited to know for sure!

10 days seems like a long time to wait since I've been champing at the bit, but it's not so long at all.  I'm counting the days!

  • Random - I feel like I could eat everything in sight today. I'm sorry but never knowing what my appetite is going to be like is exhausting. Some nights I don't want to have anything to do with dinner (for some reason, I'm ALWAYS hungry for lunch) and some days I eat lunch, soon after am ready for 2nd lunch. And don't think I'm passing up dinner and some horribly-bad-for-me dessert on those days!
All I can think about is the chocolate cake and chocolate/vanilla ice cream sitting at home....

  • @UnwritteN12 I'm having a hungry day too. I had bacon and eggs for breakfast an hour and a half Ago and now I'm ready for second breakfast. That cake combination sounds amazing. I've been craving s'mores blizzards from Dairy Queen
  • @UnwritteN12 - I'm the same way! Yesterday, I was so not hungry and actually forgot about lunch and only ate about half of what I brought around 2 p.m. and pretty much skipped dinner (I had a bowl of cereal and half a grilled cheese in the evening at some point).

Today, however, I had a hearty breakfast, a just-got-into-work snack, first lunch at 11 am and I'm just wrapping up second lunch at 1 pm! So strange! And annoying!
  • @unwritten12 Thank you!  It felt like it was never going to happen, so hopefully the next 10 days fly by!

  • @UnwritteN12 - on days I'm home with my kiddo if I don't eat with him, I eat really late in the day (don't have breakfast until his first nap, so maybe 10:30 or 11), eat lunch well after him, maybe around 2 or 3pm.  On days at work, I sit down at my desk at 8am FAMISHED! And count down the seconds until 12 to eat my lunch (don't always make it until then).

I have eaten all of the food I brought for today and I just want to snack... I have 3 more hours here and a 45 minute commute home. WAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!  I'm going to go for a nice long walk to get my mind off of it, or at least get my metabolism going if I do give into a snack!

  • Why do I only have to poop on days I'm at work? I work in an office with 4 other people and one shared bathroom, so that's a no go.  I'm so uncomfortableeeeeeeeee.

  • I've spent waaaay to much time while at work looking up babywearing things....
  • @mamadomino - I seem to be the same way. Luckily we have bigger office/bathroom situation, and also are just a suite in a large building so I can walk a little further to the land of strangers to poo.  But really, I am nearly 100% on days I'm at work, and maybe 50% on days at home, I'd love to swap those percents

  • @JennM205 congrats on all the good things! Fingers crossed for May 1st!

Ps I'm so jealous you got an offer on your house. Ours has been on the mkt forever and we still are no where near selling it - so discouraging!

So far we've caught only one mouse. The poop has not reappeared, but what I've read (according to my rodent research) is they seldom travel alone. Any experiences with a loner mouse?
  • @RedMar - both times we've had mice in our house it was a single, isolated occurrence.  The cat got them - no need for traps.

  • Today is the 2nd day of DD only having her paci for nap and bedtime. I'm hoping this is a step towards breaking the habit. I find myself wondering how I will keep her from taking the baby's paci (assuming it takes one) if she's still so addicted to them. Also, I've previously mentioned I'm worried they are holding her speech back.

  • @RedMar - I recently had a mouse living in my last car (Must have gotten in while I had the hatch open parked in the garage.. maybe post-grocery trip or something).  Little sucker was living off of my son's cheerio crumbs (UGH!). I caught him in a have-a-heart trap but he died in there anyways, at least I tried. I didn't catch any others even though everyone promised me there's no way Stuart Little would be solo in my car.

  • @RedMar Where are you from again?  It's crazy how the real estate market fluctuates in varying locations and times!  Last year when we tried to sell we had so many issues - couldn't get what we were asking and then after we settled for a lower sale price, we had super picky buyers (they could afford to be because it was a bit of a buyer's market.)  It ended up falling through due to these picky buyers...supposedly they got cold feet about buying in general and decided to rent another year.  But I bet they'll be wishing they bought last year when they had the chance because the market has done a complete 180 and inventory just can't keep up with demand!  This year, we had an offer within 48 hours and ended up settling only $2K below asking (which is $8K more than we settled on last year!)  Granted, it's far from a done deal but already a very different experience than last year!

Good luck to you and I really, really hope your real estate luck turns around soon!  It's such a stressful process and I don't wish it on anyone, especially for any longer than necessary!

  • So starting to irrationally freak out, just booked a work trip in which I will be 27 weeks.  I know the data says it's fine to travel then and I know it is but now I'm a bit scared.  I have three co-workers going, I was going to fly the same flight with them but last minute opted to fly out of the other airport that is much closer to me.  The flight is only 1.5hrs and we will land 5 minutes apart.  It'll be fine right? Right of course it will be..... Damn anxiety.
  • @jhems776 - I flew to Toronto last time I was pregnant probably around that same stage. It was no problem at all - a pretty short flight like you'll have, and I just made sure to keep my feet up as much as I could after the flight. You got this.

  • @camichael84 We are trying to break our DD(2+ yo) from paci use too, it is a struggle (more for me than for her I think). I keep regressing because she's got molars coming in and I'm afraid to completely break the habit when I know she's in pain and the paci seems to help.  We think the paci is what delayed her speech, but she hit 2yo last Dec and started talking a ton even with it still at naptime and bedtime.  She now has an articulation problem that is slowly resolving itself as she goes more time without constant use.  I am afraid to draw out the paci cutoff because it feels like a bitchy mom move to cut her off and then a month or two later have her seeing the baby with one all the time.

  • Ovia just said at 19 weeks baby might be sprouting some head hair! AHHHHHH! :) Emmett was born with a full head of black hair - not super thick but certainly not thin either (most of it fell out, and came back in a spiky/softer brown).  I'm starting to wonder what this baby will look like.. but I'll start a thread about that MONTHS from now as we all start to get antsy. I like seeing mom/dad baby pics and guessing on babe

  • @camichael84 - Crossing my fingers for you guys on breaking the habit. :) At two years old, our pediatrician decided that DS needed to be evaluated for speech issues. (Turns out he had extra fluid in his ears that we had no idea about because he didn't get frequent ear infections.) And I'll tell you what, it's amazing what they can do to help kiddos that need it! Hopefully it doesn't come to that for you guys though.

  • @Steephers123 My sister had that problem as a toddler.  She kept a paci until about 2.5 yrs.  My parents finally had her quit, only for my brother to come when she was 3.  Definitely a reversion at first.  I don't remember exactly how they stopped her that time, but in the end it was okay and didn't last too long.  She had a bit of speech therapy in K/1st grade for rhotacism (r's sound like w's), but that may or may not have been paci-related.

  • @Steephers123 I was planning on letting her take the paci until 2.5 (she's 1.5 now), but if she'll break it before the baby is born, it may make things easier for us. I don't know how long it will take us to break night time use, but I feel like this is a step in the right direction.

@AnnaS930 I was thinking about what the baby will look like recently. I wonder if it will look like McKenna. Or more like DH (she takes more after me). Or more like a different family member. I was so excited about it, I brought it up to DH who was like "it will look like Tiny (our nickname for the baby until we know the sex)". I wish he could think like I do regarding this kind of stuff. Or at least humor me sometimes.

  • @RedMar - we had a single mouse. We caught the bugger with PB and dog food and haven't seen one since. If you haven't seen a lot of poo there is a chance it was a solo mouse!
  • @PSUBecky23 - my sister had similar stories when her kid was three. She was all sorts of trouble at day care. They ended up switching her to a different center and all her behavior issues stopped immediately - I guess they got lucky and figured out what the issue was.

Glad that worked for them. Switching sounds like a giant PIA for us. We already had to do it when we moved right after she turned two. Between touring centers, the initial fees/deposits and then dealing with transitioning her, I really don't want to have to do that.
