@JennM205 - Mine could be some swelling too. My hips were sore (sleeping on my side does a number on me), and legs felt achy/heaving like you're saying too. I had swelling this early on with my last kiddo but haven't noticed much this time. I do keep my feet up a lot more than I used to because the swelling was so early with my last. Really not looking forward to having to pry my flip-flops off at the end of every day.. waaaah.
@AnnaS930 Prying flip flops off? That does not sound fun. Fingers crossed that this is NOT the start of a loooong, swollen second half of pregnancy for either of us!
@JennM205- yes, during my worst swelling last time (the worst was a day I took the train down to Boston, so LOTS of sitting still on the trip there and back, and tons of walking/sitting while there - we went to see Lion King on the broadway tour). My flip flops started off with loose straps and when I got home I had to yank to get them off and my feet had very red indents from the straps. When I jogged up the stairs to bed that night.. I could feel the tops of my feet jiggling. Never have I ever felt so strange in my life
@AnnaS930 My swelling was out of control last time, too. The last 3-4 weeks I spent most days with my feet propped on a pillow. Well, until I'd get bored. I've been keeping a close eye on it this time because I'm convinced it will happen again and with existing high BP I have a real fear of pre-E. No swelling yet, but it didn't start until 24-26 weeks and didn't get bad until 32.
I have been having hip pain at night, but that also happened last time and I attributed it to loosening ligaments. I hoped the Snoogle would help, but it's not.
@camichael84- I feel like last time I had found a really great sleeping position and continued to sleep relatively pain free.. why didn't I write that down?!?! In reality, it was probably just as bad as this time but I had forgotten about it since then (our bodies have a way of erasing some of the bad memories). I've been using a small pillow between my knees but I don't think it's thick enough - going to a try a fluffier pillow tonight and see if I can keep my hips in better line.
I have a FB friend (prior employee) who is having her anatomy scan today. She has a son who is a few year sold. She prayed he was a girl, he was not. She is doing the same this time and has been extremely vocal about it.
A part of me really hopes it's a boy, because I'm evil. Another part of me really hopes it's a girl because I feel bad for her children having to feel like they were a disappointment before they were even born.
Be happy with what you get, ladies!! (a feeling I know I don't have to preach here)
@jhems776& @blondie080300I'm right there with you. I keep doing the 'Ooo was that a flutter?!' Then realize, 'No it was not, it was the result of my constipation.' Talk about a total let down. We'll get there though ladies!
@LakeR2014- yes you certainly will, we are all coming up on the time that it becomes more and more likely with 2nd time around. My journal from last time says I felt my first definite baby flutters between 19 and 20 weeks, this time they started much earlier (because I knew what I was feeling) and became unmistakable around 17-18 weeks. SUPER excited for those about to feel their rumbly tumbly babes for the first time. Early on I find it easiest to feel either laying back with my feet up, or laying on my side, with a hand against my stomach (the feeling is internal, but the hand maybe helps me focus on that part of my body? or the heat of my hand encourages little one to wiggle around?) and takes a good amount of relaxation/concentration... how I achieve any of that with my wild pregnancy brain and a wild 1 year old is a small miracle
@lovelylauren86 That looks delicious! I love duck, though I don't make it very often. My in-laws raise ducks, so when we go to visit them we eat lots of duck (and duck eggs!)
My Little Tikes dollhouse from the early 90s sells on ebay for about $200 now. And the barn for another $60, and I can't even tell you how many accessories I have (picture everything little tikes makes, but in dollhouse size - cozy coup, turtle sandbox, yellow baby swing, etc etc). I'm sitting on a gold mine, and I can't freaking wait to break it out and play with it with my kidS! I have to start thinking in plural! Holy smokes, sorry - that just hit me.
But really, I could never sell it.. and I'm still a kid at heart. Might take it out this weekend for when my parents are watching my son and my niece/nephew (4 years old) - my sister has the same dollhouse in her kindergarten classroom and her kiddos are obsessed with it.
@runningisrad I had that at 5 1/2 weeks. I went into work because I thought it was morning sickness. First thing I did was run into the bathroom and puke all over the floor! Then I had to clean it up, so terrible. Feel better soon. Try popsicles.
@shiva14 I'm afraid to read the update. I find myself avoiding posts that look sad. It's terrible of me and I'm here to support any and all of you but I am prone to anxiety and can be neurotic...so sometimes, especially if I think I'm in a vulnerable mood, I try to avoid reading them. Even being my 3rd pregnancy I still worry about things that I know are likely nothing.
I'll just chime in to say ugh to the swelling. That was my least favorite symptom last time and it didn't really kick in until the last month. But already I am taking off my rings at night and not always getting them back on in the morning .... Boo
Just chiming in that I woke up with sore legs today too. I wasn't sure if it was pregnancy or sex related. LOL. Now I will chalk it up to pregnancy. That way I won't feel THAT out of shape...

Oh, I forgot about that part... So I guess I was victim to some swelling last time. For a few weeks, I remember putting my wedding rings on my pinkie finger in the morning (because the swelling went down an hour or so after I was at work each day and I'd then move them back to my ring finger). But then the swelling wasn't going down so there were a few days in a row where I did that, forgetting that they weren't going to fit later, and ended up with my rings on my pinkie all day (because I didn't want to take them off and lose them in my purse or at my desk somewhere)! Finally, one day, my boss commented and asked why I didn't just leave them home. Lol. I remembered to do so the next day.
I had sore legs for much of my last pregnancy. I got them last night for the first time this pregnancy. And the swelling. Ugh. I hate the swelling. I have been told that drinking more water helps with it, but I haven't noticed it myself.
@JennM205and @Sporty1216- I think I work my rings pretty much up to the end last time.. there were definitely mornings where I could not take them off even if I wanted to, but could usually yank them off by the end of my shower and shove them back on. That was a December baby, with being massive in the heat/humidity of the summer, I think I'll be taking them off sooner this time. It took a couple weeks after giving birth to be able to comfortably put my rings back on without really straining, but that was a great day when it did slide back!
@blondie080300- hot damn! Blame it on the sex, why not! I can assure you, my sore legs are not from sex.. unless it's a really really slow onset from that one time a couple weeks ago
@annas930 I would be excited to get that stuff out too and I know how you feel about not wanting to sell. I have 2 American girl dolls that are in perfect condition because I never played with them. I was a tom boy. They are worth some money now and my husband wants to sell them...but I don't think I can. especially since we found out we are having a girl! My husband says "our kids aren't playing with a doll we could sell for $1000.
@AnnaS930 My rings never went back on after having DD. When she was 3 months old, I gave up and had them resized. They're pretty loose this time, so I'm hoping I can keep them on most of this pregnancy and get them back on pretty quickly.
ETA I just realized more than Anna was taking about the rings. But it's on the last page so I can't tag everyone.
ETAA Well, I could tag everyone, but I'm too lazy to look. Sorry.
I haven't been wearing my wedding rings for the past 2 months! I had gained weight since they were sized, so they were already a bit snug. Halfway through 1st tri, they got uncomfortably tight. I think it could be related to the increase in blood volume that comes with being pregnant since I don't have any other signs of swelling. I am currently wearing an ugly $30 ring from Kohl's so my finger doesn't feel naked.
@SaraJuul- I also have 2 American Girl dolls but I played with them like crazy so the resale value (while still good) isn't outrageous. I'm not considering selling them, they are stored in a tote with all of their clothes. If we have a girl I will hold onto them, if we don't I will most likely hand them down to my niece who is now 4, when I think she's old enough to appreciate them a bit more. My grandmother bought me the dolls and always loved them, she has told me to give them to her if I ever consider getting rid of them
Commiserating with those ladies who haven't felt baby yet. It took me forever to feel Reese. Like, mid 20s. And I've felt nothing with this one. Between barely showing and not feeling baby, I hate this in between "I don't feel pregnant" stage. (Recognizing that I know how lucky I am to be pregnant. It just makes me a little crazy because the crazy side of me starts to worry something is wrong.)
Rings: Yea, I've gained a bit of weight since getting married and the last 5-10 put it over the edge. I can get my rings on and off but while they are on they will rub until it turns into a sore within 1-2 days. So, I stopped wearing them full time right around when I got pregnant and now they are super snug. On an upside the yellow gold ring my grandmother left me which was waaaay too big I can wear instead, just need to be careful as it is a bit loose still. I've thought about getting a 50 or less cheap ring too....
I got really lucky with my last pregnancy that I didn't swell until the very end. I was still able to wear my rings and rock my heels. Hope I'm lucky again.
Guess I'm joining everyone with sickies in the house. DH just texted me saying he's got a fever and is throwing up. It may all go downhill from here. However, when I made him aware that one of us was going to have to sleep downstairs tonight, I had to laugh when he said, "I volunteer as tribute....but only if I have to". I love that man. Hoping everyone's sickies feel better soon!
I just signed up for a Hypnobirthing class that starts tomorrow. Eek! I am pretty anxious! It is more expensive then I wanted to pay but I do love all that is included in the 5 week class (each session is 2.5 hours). The class includes all materials,a book, recordings and support for all the way up until the baby is born (not just until the class ends).
Married: 3/21/15 First time mom to a human but have been a puppy mamma for over 12 years
@blondie080300 my Bradley Method class was more than I would've liked to have spent but it was 100% worth it. If med-free is what you really want, a class is extremely helpful.
DH did a super sweet thing by seeing that I was on a work call and also trying to watch LO over what happened to be his lunch hour. He also works at home, so he took LO downstairs with him so I could focus and LO could have more fun playing. He brought him up when LO got fussy and I ended up putting LO down for a nap while on the work call--giving myself MAJOR supermom credits for that one!
Anyway. I went down after I got off the call and thanked him for stepping up without being asked (or expected) to do so, and he had to go and ruin it by asking me why I had scheduled a call for that time anyway and why I didn't just say I couldn't do it. Ugh. Because work doesn't work that way, dude. Sometimes, when you're scheduling a group call, you gotta do a time that is less convenient for you and you can't always schedule around when your kid might need a nap because, let's face it, working from home while caring for your kiddo is a major privilege. You gotta bend when and where you can.
Seriously love the man. And he has been stepping up in really good ways lately that I am so grateful for. But really. Someone needs to tell him: say "You're welcome." and walk away the hero.
@blondie080300- My hospital class was 4 weeks each class about 2 hours. It really made those 4 weeks go by pretty quickly to have a class 1 of the days and have something to look forward to each week (the other couples asked some hilariously bad questions, I'll share as we keep getting further and I can remember them). Take advantage of it, especially being your first! A 2.5 hour class for 5 weeks is so hard to picture in my schedule with a little man at home, but I would have been all over it last time around!
I've done pretty close to zero work today. And I leave to get my son at daycare in less than a half hour... why start now? I'll have a lot to do to make up for it tomorrow but it'll make the day go by a lot quicker!
Just got back from my ob appointment where we went over the anatomy scan pictures. Everything looks great and baby is measuring 6 days ahead of clinical age and is in the 87th percentile for weight. I'm a little terrified, I was charting and temping so I know ovulation day was December 20. My husband was 10lbs 15oz at birth and if the baby continues on this path I will be pushing a giant behemoth out of my body. I was 6.5 lbs so maybe we can split the difference? I'm not opposed to having a csection but I would much rather have a vaginal birth.
The bright side of today's appointment is that since they weren't able to see all the things at the ultrasound last week, we go back on Monday for a look at baby's heart, nose, lips and hopefully get a crotch shot!
Just getting all caught up! I'm sorry to hear everyone hasn't been feeling so great! I hope you all feel better soon!
This weekend I found out that 3/7ths of my ladies group is expecting! I am just so incredibly happy for my friends and that I'll have some local pregnancy buddies. Two of the others have new jobs, one is getting married, and the last is buying a new house with her BF. So much fun stuff happening in my girl group it's hard not to be so excited for everyone.
I bought some baby shoes. Yeah, they may be pointless for an infant, but they're cute so.... It is the first baby item I've purchased so far and it's just starting to feel so real!
@marikkita12- my last pregnancy we had to go back for the same views - baby was spine up and didn't want to show us his belly, so we were left without a great glimpse of his heart, cord or face (and just a quick crotch shot.. which ended up being the only one we ever got). Love how you're seeing the silver lining of seeing baby again so soon! Woohoo!
Remember that ultrasounds are pretty inaccurate for weight and can be a good pound off up or down as things get going.. meaning your baby could be right in the middle of the size spectrum, or could be a super-duper behemoth Luckily lots of time and more measurements to come if they think baby is especially big (and super chubby babies are the cutest)
@marikkita12- I agree with @AnnaS930that the size at the ultrasound could be off. Also know that even if baby is large now, it could be normal size at birth. The rate of growth varies from baby-to-baby. With my son, he was average sized at his anatomy scan. At birth, he was a surprising 9 lbs 10 oz. Nothing during my pregnancy warned of his large size.
