Question! that isn't important enough to start a new thread (is that possible?)... although maybe I should so this thread doesn't get shut down for a change in topic.
When are you guys installing your car seats or at least the base? I want to be as ready as we can when I go into labor since we're hoping to make it to a hospital an hour away so H coming home after baby is born to install it before we go home isn't really that ideal, but if we put it in today and God forbid we got into a fender bender or something before baby comes and the base is in the car it'd be no good. And we'd probably be scrambling to get another.
I figure now is probably still a bit too early but I was thinking about getting them installed around 34 weeks. Also to get the dog adjusted to something else in his space. Do you think that's still too early?
First, not possible!
Second...H & I talked about it a bit today after our prenatal class. I think we might around 35ish weeks?! I have no idea when the "right" time is, but like you I definitely want to be prepared. I also say 35 weeks because I'll be done work around 36 weeks & it will be installed in my car (until we buy a 2nd base)...since I won't be driving to/from work, the odds of getting in an accident are pretty low. That's my logic at this point, anyways.

I was JUST talking to Dh about this about 30 mins ago! We both agreed to wait until 36 weeks. I like to have the extra space for my dog.
We installed the base but left the seat with our hospital bag and grabbed it when we left. I get why people wait, I mean if something were to happen, it would be a pain to get a replacement in time...but the chances are so low. I'll probably get my base installed soon because I went into labor during my 36th week last time! Yikes, so much to do!
Should we do like we did secret labor buddies? Have people PM me to get into a group? I'd be happy to set one up... And don't care if we screen it... If you PM me and I don't know you, I will check your profile. They don't lie.
I'd be down for that. Maybe mention it in the daily thread too so people don't get left out. I feel like the some of the regulars don't post in this thread but post over there regularly. And vice versa, some never post in those and exclusively post over here.
I think keeping it exclusive to those 2 threads would hold off the majority of the randos. And screening them would help too... haha
I only post here and would want to be in the favevook group if I'm regular enough and you'll have me
@Sgoldberg247- i've seriously never heard that one before!
It's so good, I think my teachers heard it and couldn't resist. I also took my fair share of bio classes of college so I had many opportunities to hear it.
I'll probably wait until 38 weeks. Both my other babies were born after 40 weeks, so I think I'll be safe. If not DH can do it after she's born since he won't be staying at the hospital with us.

We only live about 10 mins from our hospital, and H won't be staying with us, so if we don't do it before, he'll just install it at some point while I'm at the hossy
You've all been busy! I just powered through the 113 posts since I last checked. I feel much better about being a terrible mom who couldn't deal with my normal toddler yesterday morning, because as it turns out I had a nasty stomach bug. I say *had* purely from a place of hope. I've been disaster-free for about 7 hours. Feel like I am good now. I called my on call OB and she said I didn't have to go to the hospital for IV fluids unless I couldn't keep gatorade down. I could! Prior to that I took one sip of water in the car -- ONE SIP -- and yakked my guts out all over myself. And the seat. And the floor. And the door. And the window. Ugh. My saint of a husband cleaned it up while I showered and then took the car to get detailed. You cannot even tell!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!
Doesn't the car seat installation depends too on how difficult it is to install the car seat? Seems a breeze with some latch systems in some cars. But perhaps one needs time to get the car seat checked at the fire station too? FTM don't know any better.

I would. We got ours checked at the station before we took the girls home. You just call and set up an appt. It made us feel much better.
we will probably install the car seat somewhere between 36 and 38 weeks. Mostly because we are moving what side of the car our daughter sits on and I want her to get used to the new arrangement before the baby comes.
Oh! And I have no clue when we will install the seat. My daughter came much earlier than expected so I didn't even BRING the seat or base to the hospital. My husband installed it in the parking lot. We had an appointment with a CPST for the very next week. So, apparently 37 weeks was too late for us! We live about 20 minutes from the hospital and family visiting brought it to us. This time my husband plans to put our daughter down for bed most nights so he will be going back and forth anyhow.
Honestly, it will work out. I had NOTHING because I went to the hospital thinking it was false labor. You make it work.
We're planning on installing our car seat permanently sometime before 39 weeks unless the doctor indicates that I'll go earlier. With the latch system in our cars its pretty simple to install the seat base, just hook the straps into the latches and tighten. I'm more concerned about having the straps in the car seat at the right height and having to adjust all of that stuff based on how big she ends up being .
My question is, how come July can come post here, but I couldn't post in July last night? I went over essentially to apologize for us all if we had upset anyone, and to share to love of tots, and it wouldn't let me post it!! I legit said "I'm super sorry we offended you guys, we don't see this kind of stuff (the lady wanting to kill the dog) and I'm pretty sure that's where the initial comment came from. Please accept these delicious tots as our sincerest of apologizes"
but I couldn't post it and I'm sad lol
Dammit, I want tots!! You probably couldn't post bc our ish was getting shut down... Either way, truce??? July loves June BMB! You guys crack me up!!!

They were onto the back and forth!!! Lol. But yes, truce. Except for the tots.....
The hospital won't let you leave until they check that your baby is in the car seat correctly and the base (if you have one) or the installation of the seat in the car.

Hi Ladies. I caught up finally. You guys are so fast on this thread, and I can't bump too much at work since we are so busy. So I have to catch up on the weekends and evenings.
@ahernandez1983 your cousin is crazy, and you need to stay away from her and tell someone if anything happens to you or your baby she's the first suspect.
If you guys want a private board, you can have a private proboard. I was a regular on the knot for years, but last year some stuff went down and a bunch of us went to a private proboard, and I'm still on it. No one can even see who is there unless you're a member and we did with private links to people. Just an idea, if you are interested.
Random, I was all set to order my breast pump today, but I have to wait until 32 weeks. Ok, guess I have to wait a few more weeks to order it. I understand not wanting to do it if someone is only 12 weeks pregnant, but 32 weeks sounds late to me.

Not always. At our infant care class they said they can help, but legally you have to do it so they aren't liable. Yes, you can't leave without a car seat, but they are not experts in every base and car model. Not even sure they check the base, just help with getting the baby in the seat.

Ours checks that there is a car seat but I don't think they check installation because they don't want the liability. We had ours checked for DS by a car seat tech when there was an event.
This time we installed them all and had a friend who is a car seat tech check them and then we took them out. Since they'll be in the NICU we'll have warning before we need to re-install.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI! Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
@huskypuppy14 my insurance won't send a pump until 2 days before my due date!!! Explain how that makes any sense?!?
Also, my hospital doesn't look at car seat installation. They only care if you have a car seat. I don't think they are even allowed to comment or check anything.

That is ridiculous! I realize you may not need it right away, but 2 days before is stupid. Ok, I don't feel so bad anymore. I just wanted to check another thing off my list.
I can't order my pump until after the baby is born. They bring the order form with your discharge paperwork. I mean I'm not planning on pumping so I won't need it anyway but that definitely doesn't make sense to me at all.
Eta: I have Kaiser and they REALLY push only baby to boob breastfeeding. They discourage even pumping so I think this is their way of continuing to shove their beliefs down women's throats by not giving them access to a pump right away.
Regarding car seat installation, for those who mentioned getting them checked at the fire station: I recommend making an appointment with Safe Kids instead--not all fire stations are equipped with CPSTs (child passenger safety technicians) and if they are not certified, they may not be up to date on the latest info and they may even be misinformed. Here's the Safe Kids website: https://cert.safekids.org/get-car-seat-checked
A CPST will install the seat to show you how AND they will have you do it while they watch so you are confident that you can do it yourself, too, which is key.

Of course I hope it'd be followed immediately with a second comment of congratulations and such. I just think it'd be hilarious. I'm such an ass.

Anyway, love @WinniethePoohsPants story in the FFFC, and the siggy.

@Bear14+ 2 days? Whatttt? That's ridiculous. I thought my insurance was cutting it close but 2 days is freaking ridiculous.
