So I think DH & I are going to break a Nestie Rule

We are going to let a job affect our TTC plans :(

I know 99% of Nesties will tell me not to let a job influence what's right for our family. But I have this feeling that it's meant to be for some reason. I dunno. We'll see in the next month what happens. But I'm bummed.

  • I didn't know that is a nestie rule.....interesting.

what about the job situation is affecting it?

  • why should any of us care? it's your life, and your decisions will affect your future.  whatever.
  • Basically, my company is moving into a new bldg w/warehouse, it will be probably the single most important month of my 5yr career with this place. The hard part of the decision is that the move-in date is NOT set (you know how builders always fall behind schedule, etc). So I'm worried that I'm going to delay our TTC date, only to watch the bldg be delayed & STILL be in the same spot.

Thanks for your input gibs, lol.

  • I don't think any of us can give a  100% answer unless we were in your situation.  you have to do what you feel is right.  Good luck with whatever you decide.

THIS is the reason that you're going to delay TTC a child that you want?  Ridiculous IMO, but you don't care about my opinion, so whatever.  But my guess is that in a year you'll look back and think that this decision you're making was stupid and misguided.

And LOL at a moving date being "the single most important" thing in your so-called 'career'!

'So-called career'? You have no idea what I do, what a biotch.

  • Are you in charge of the move? Is that one of your responsibilities? If it is, I could see how that would a be a HUGE workload for you and a very daunting task. Our company has moved before, and the people who are in charge have so, so many things to do in addition to their regular duties.

If you're not in charge, then I'm really confused how this will be such a big deal.

  • I really didn't know this is a rule...I don't think it is, is it??  I mean, people chose to concieve at certain times for all different reasons...waiting for a wedding, want to get pregnant and have a baby before the toddler starts school, etc.

Yes, this is my move. I am the Inventory Mgr & will be responsible for accurately & efficiently moving 200 items, as well a train & manage the new staff to run the place. For me to miss the move is huge.

OK, maybe not a Nestie Rule, but I know the general consensus is to not let a job affect your family plans. It makes sense, no pg is guaranteed any given month, what if it takes ages for us to conceive or something?

  • So helping your company move and working is going to prevent you from having sex when you get home? I say do both. Unless they're desperately going to need your help moving heavy stuff (which I doubt since you don't seem like a weightlifter) 9 mo. from now, I don't see why you couldn't handle it. Is it a high stress job? I could see that affecting pregnancy, but otherwise, if you're bummed, maybe it's not the right decision to put it off?

  • I re-read your post. Are you saying that the move is in August this year (isn't that when you guys were TTC?) or is it next spring, when you would be on leave? If that's the case, I understand why you would put if off.

Sorry if that wasn't clear. Yes, my 6w maternity leave could fall smack-dab in the middle of the move next summer.

  • In that case, you'd only have to postpone TTC for a couple of months at most, right? In the grand scheme of things a month or two is nothing...
  • i had a non-pg friend who ran a huge move for her company.  It invovled many extra hours of overtime and late hours.  i say good for you for realizing TTC is not the best decision during this busy time.

  • Um, we did the same thing. This is a Nestie rule?

Because of wedding season I had about a 2 month window that I could conceive.

Life happens, working around it shouldn't be a rule breaker

  • Work is part of your life and you have to plan TTC when it works in your life.  If you feel better about holding off, then do it.
  • No offense (so I know you will be offended), but from what you post (yes I lurk more than post, but have been reading for a while), you're fight issues with your H should be more of a deterrent. Have you all worked out the communication issues, you've posted about?
