Our little girl will be Amelia. We've gotten some feedback (mostly negative) about it but it's our choice and we're happy with it. If we keep getting negative comments, we're going to shut everyone down and tell them it's our child and we already decided. We're very excited about having a girl! Can't wait to meet her!
@mom2adoodle almost half of the people we told (just close family) have been okay with it, neither here nor there. But most have said things like 'Oh... but why Amelia? Why not this or that?' (mostly my mom and MIL). We don't really care but would obviously prefer it if people didn't feel like they had a say in our child's name.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom That's a bummer, I'm sorry People are self serving when it comes to this stuff too. We felt that coming as well so we decided not to tell anyone the name until birth. That way they will feel like a huge jerk saying mean things about a baby's name Hopefully.
We are team green, and far from names. Though I really wish we could decide, and hope we do eventually, I love the idea of meeting the baby first. Our girl options are: Abby, Kate, or the new contenders.. Mila and Nora. Boys.... no idea! We are throwing around Henry and Cooper ATM.
Can I be a total Aw and ask for a quick opinion? I know we have the name board but since I know you ladies I'd rather ask you. What do you think of Ellis? Too old fashioned? DH and I both like Ellie but feel it's too nickname-ie for an adult with a career. We love Alice, but DH has some bad connotations. So, phonetically, Ellis is a combination of the two, could still nickname her Ellie.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom I LOVE the name Amelia, in fact I'm considering it for us too! DH has already vetoed a lot of names I bring up so we're not even close..I figure at this point we'll wait until we know the sex, since it seems like it's going to be tough to agree on something, let alone 2 separate names.
@Shiva14 I like Ellis, although personally I tend to connect that with a male. Definitely could work for a female though, and it would be unique but very pretty! I will say that I know a few "Ellie" adults, and it doesn't seem nick-namey or anything in the professional world.
@SLou24 I am super glad you mentioned that - I didn't realize it was unisex! I tend to shy away from unisex names so that definitely puts a pause in considering it for me.

I have a friend that named her little girl Ellis. I think it's cute!

@Shiva14 I think Ellis is fine and cute, but I do know a little boy named that. It could def work though. I love Ellie.. There are so many name you could do with it as the nn of you want to go that route- Eleanor, Eloise, Elizabeth, Gabrielle, Elliot (also unisex), etc.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom I love the name Amelia! I know my mom and MIL will not agree with our names. We have told everyone we are not discussing names. Once we know what we are having we will tell them (maybe)
My mom has kind of a rocker vibe and MIL is a true hippie and is all about the universe, so unless we name the baby diesel or rainbow they are not going to like it LOL. I KNOW they will not like my old English names (Alice or Oliver)

We are still going with a double letter name (I'm Anna, husband Matt, son Emmett - we happened into a theme by mistake). If it's a girl our top contender is Stella Mae, (Mae being a family name I want to use), if it's a boy my favorite so far is Cooper (a family middle name would be Ross, but my husband isn't loving the two of them together). Our son Emmett's middle name is Martin, and he likes the flow of that.. so maybe looking for a 2 syllable middle if it's a boy.
@Shiva14 I definitely associate Ellis as a boy name. But could be a cute girl name. I coach little girls gymnastics. You would believe how many 5,6,7 year olds are Ellie or Ella.
@faeriem I don't thing Francis is too girly and I have a sister Frances. I think it could go either way.

@Shiva14- I'm also in the camp of thinking that it's going to be a boy if the name is Ellis - if you like unisex names that might be fine with you, but sounds like you might not. I also predict a lot of "What's your name?" "Ellis" "Alice?" "No, Ellis" ... and that would drive me crazy as the kid.
Can I also bug you all for an opinion? We have a son, Emmett. I have also always loved the name Elliott (for a boy). I'm leaning towards the two being far too similar, any thoughts?
I've already ruled out Scarlett/Violet for a girl because I think the names are a little too rhymey, and also Everett for a boy
@AnnaS930 thanks for your input! You are right, I'm not a fan of unisex names. I think this was a case of my cultural gap showing since I didn't grow up here. For whatever reason it was solely feminine in my mind and it sounds like most people associate it with a masculine, which is a no go for me. So thank you all so much for making me realize that!!
As far as Emmet and Elliot I LOVE Elliot, it was our boy name if this had been a boy. I don't think they are too similar, really the only similarities are first and last letters. They have different syllables too.
@kosmo86 that's hilarious! Yeah, we told everyone in our immediate family as soonas we found out that it's a girl but I will definitely put my foot down and tell them the name is not up for discussion if they mention it again.
@SLou24 Yeah, we weren't expecting the reaction we got because we both really like the name and think it's really beautiful. Besides, it's not and odd or weird name so we were like, huh?
@mom2adoodle waiting is a good idea. My DH wanted to be team green until we got pregnant (and I guess s**t got real for him) and then wanted to wait until the birth to let everyone know the name until we found out, then he wanted to spill the beans right away! I'm super impatient so I don't like to wait anyways. My mom is a difficult woman so I think she'd still be critical but I can't imagine the rest of the family criticizing the name if we had told them once the baby's here.

I think Elliott would be super cute with Emmett! Others might say it's too close, but I think it's doable. Everett is definitely too close. Also team Cooper though. ETA: Elliott Cooper??
@AnnaS930 I do think Emmett and Elliott are really similar. I wouldn't side eye them being used as sibling names, but they sound like matchy twin names to me. I'm not against matchy twin names in any way, but wanted to throw that opinion out there.
@TNgoldengirland @camichael84- appreciate the opinions. I'm still team Cooper, I asked my husband last night if he ever watched Hangin with Mr. Cooper as a kid - he did not. I was thinking of all the great FB statuses I could have when this baby arrives (I really feel like it's a boy.. but no idea why I think that).
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom Amelia is the name for our baby, if she's a girl! Right now it's Amelia Ann, but I also really like Amelia Marie.
@Shiva14 I've never heard Ellis before. My first thought was that it's a boy name, but I think it's really cute for a girl. And there are lots and lots of names that you could get Ellie from. I'm partial to Elizabeth
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom- I LOVE the name Amelia. My sister is Emily and a few people have assumed my son Emmett is named after her.. I think they'd be really convinced if we went with Amelia as well, but it is absolutely one of my favorite girl names.
Nor exactly what you asked for Shiva14 , but I wanted to throw out Ellison; I grew up with a girl named Ellison and I always thought it was such a beautiful name. She went by Ellie.
AnnaS930 I like Emmett and Elliot, they are very similar sounding but both are great names.
We are having a boy, and have a short list of maybe 5 first names we like. We both agreed that we wouldn't share till baby is born, and DH wants to take a few names to the hospital and decide when we meet him so that's what we will do. We have a lot of vocal and opinionated family members, so we are side-stepping that whole mess. My dad and MIL are throwing out names non-stop already.
Our last name is one syllable, so ideally I would like a name that is at least two syllables. But Graham is my favorite by far, and it doesn't fit that so who knows...
@nativetexan512 - I absolutely love Graham. I think it's unique enough to stand up to a short last name, perhaps a two syllable middle name would give the name a nice flow?
I'm so jealous of all of you that have good family names like Ann or Mae. My son's middle name is Matthew (which is my DH's first name) and my daughter's middle name is Lynn (which is my middle name, my mom's middle name and my Grandpa's first name). So we want to use family names for middle names for these twins. The problem? The grandparent names from me and DH are Ione, Linwood, Marion, Lou, Hubert, Luella and Jane (which is the only one I would consider). My MIL's name is Elizabeth, but she is a beast and I don't want her thinking that I named my kids after her. Coming up with 2 family names will be rough!
For a girl right now we have Brooke Elizabeth, but definitely not set in stone...other top choices are Taylor or Sadie....for a boy, we have first names only: Jesse or Cody.....no clue on middle names....our daughter is named Eliana Grace, but we usually call her Ellie...though recently she's identifying more with "spawn of Satan"
@Ssoccerball we used Martin as a middle name for Emmett because it was my husbands grandfather's middle name. His first name was Bertram. Uhhh, yeah. There was nothing I could do with that name so I had to do some detective work to get a middle name.
@Ssoccerball I get it! We also love family names for middle names and wanted to go with Amelia Rose after my grandmother but my mom has the same middle name and will seriously take ownership of our child if we name her that.
Jane is pretty and a great middle name! Maybe Marion could be adjusted to Mary? Don't really have any suggestions for boy names though
@Ssoccerball -- are there any last names that you like that you could use for a middle name? We are using my mom's maiden name for this kiddo's middle name, boy or girl.

That's a good suggestion...But my family is Swedish and my DH's family is German, so our options are Lundstrom, Briesacher and Barton. Barton is my DH's middle name, so it's still an option, but our son is named after that side of DH's family so I'd kind of like to spread the love around.
Boy or girl, this baby will be Morgan. DH and I know this is our last LO and we didn't want a name out there that we loved and never got to use. Middle name will be Daniel or Danielle, depending on the sex. In honor of my DH's army sergeant who was killed in Iraq.
