So... newbie here, and I have a potentially silly u/s related question! Background: I came off the pill in December, and only had one full cycle before getting my BFP in late February at around 4w0d. We were originally planning to start trying later this year, but weren't really actively preventing it from happening sooner... just didn't expect it to happen so quickly! My question is this: I went to my primary care office 2 days after my positive home test result, assuming they'd do a blood test to confirm, but they said they consider a positive home test to be pretty definite. They referred me to the OB/GYN office, and I was booked for an appointment on March 31 (8w5d). Is an ultrasound typically done at the first appointment? I'm seeing mixed reports. I feel like I've already been waiting an eternity for the appointment, and I guess I'm not entirely sure what to expect at my first one. They told me to expect it to take a couple of hours, as I'll meet the NP and the Doctor for an hour each, but that's all I was told. I'm just feeling so anxious to know whether or not everything is going okay! It seems like so long to wait, and if they don't do an u/s, they can't be sure everything is normal, can they? I guess I should probably call them for more specifics, but I didn't want to seem like I was asking them stupid questions either!

@shamrocandroll An Ultrasound usually isn't standard at your 1st appt unless you're around 8-10 weeks and even then they may not do it on the very first appt and may have you come back just for that. Basically it all depends on the practice you're going to and what their standard procedure is. For many woman getting early ultrasounds it's usually because they are considered high risk for some reason or other...again not always the case but usually that's why most people get early ultrasounds pre 8-10 weeks. I know some offices that won't give one until 12 weeks. Unfortunately it can be a long anxious wait.
I have my 1st appt tomorrow at 6w,3d and won't be getting an ultrasound but am hoping they schedule me for one soon thereafter. With my 1st it was done at week 9.
@TrulyBlessed22 Thanks! I guess I should probably just call and ask. I'll be at almost 9 weeks at my first appointment, and I just want to know that everything is normal! This is my first pregnancy, so I'm excited and nervous all at the same time! I seem to have gotten hit with the book as far as symptoms go, which is not so much fun, but means it's more likely things are going normally, I guess... so that's slightly comforting (as comforting as constant nausea, smell hypersensitivity, exhaustion, and aches can be, at least).

Totally call and ask! If they don't give you an answer you like, you can always try different Drs.
@shamrocandroll mine wouldn't give a straight answer. The person on the phone said "it depends on the practitioner whether or not they do an ultrasound at the first visit (8wks)" and I was like "ok well we just made my appointment and we know my practitioner is X so..?" And she was like "yeah it depends." I hope I get one so I feel a little better. Plus I'm making my husband come with me and of course he would prefer that to just waiting for me to get a boring pelvic exam..
@whaat We're in the same boat! My husband took the day off from work, because it's pretty much impossible for him to leave work for part of the day. He'll be limited to how many of those he can do, so I want to make sure the ones he comes to really count!

I had one last Friday 3/19 but there wasn't anything to see. No yolk sac or anything that was visible. Sonographer said my uterus looked pregnant and there hasn't been any bleeding. They scheduled me to come back on the 28th. Hopefully good news then.
I thought I join in. First picture is me at 5w6d. Due to bleeding we did an us. You really can't see it, we had to look closely and no heartbeat was found. Second picture is me at 6w4d. Here it has doubled its size several times and a heartbeat was detected. I wanted to share both, so you could see how fast it is growing right now
First ultrasound was today. No pics till next scan. Heartbeat found, 1 baby (I have twins not through infertility), measuring 6 weeks instead of almost 8. Apparently I was born with a bicornate uterus, and didn't know of this till now. So scan was abdominal, then transvaginal, and after no luck abdominal again. Can't wait for next one when baby is bigger and I have pics!
I had my first ultrasound this morning! Baby is measuring a bit later than expected (I thought I was 7+1 but measured 7+5) so we have an adjusted due date. Saw and the heard the heartbeat at 160. Will add a photo once I get them scanned (I'm at work and haven't told anyone here yet). I love that we're all getting to this point where we can 'see' our little bugs :-)
Had first US on Wednesday and little bean measured in at 6w2d (supposed to be 7w3d so measuring behind). Sack and baby are in proportion so I might've just ovulated late in my cycle. Saw the heartbeat too. Going back on 4/5 for a second dating US so not sure of my due date now lol
I had a slight amount of spotting this morning, so my OB pulled me in for an u/s-- since I had a pPROM at 16w with my last pregnancy (followed by an emergency D&E), she's watching me extra carefully this time around.
I'm 6w3d and everything looks totally fine. Her in-office equipment wasn't quite "hi-def" enough to see a heartbeat yet, but she assured there are no signs of a miscarriage or any reason to think I'll have one. She's sending me for an u/s at the hospital on Monday to see the heartbeat, etc.
She said all my coughing from my nasty cold may have caused me to pop a blood vessel down there

Had a dating ultrasound today, I was unsure about my dates, because I wasn't having periods. Thought I was maybe 8w1d but I was wrong....dating ultrasound measured baby at 6w5d. Baby had a strong heartbeat of 140. ☺️
We had our u/s today with RE, the baby measured at 6w5d with 120 heartbeats. I was calculating 6w2d but I guess few days do not change things much. I was super nervous for this u/s , we are so happy and (a little) relieved when we saw that flickering heart. @lilwonder i am sorry for the scare, but it is great that everything looks well. I hope you see the heartbeat on Monday !
Had a rough night last night, ladies. Injured myself in the abdomen at work (my worst nightmare) and ended up going to the ER to make sure everything was ok with baby.
It was a very long night, but I did get to see my perfectly sized (6w1d) little nugget and it's strong (134bpm) heartbeat! Everything is ok for now... I have a small subchorionic hemorrhage (thank you @comealongponds for sharing about yours so I actually knew what the rushed ER doc was talking about) and they put me on rest for the next few days. No pics unfortunately... it wasn't that kind of night.
Although it certainly wasn't the way I wanted to see my baby for the first time, I'm glad the hubs and I got a chance to see it together. It feels so much more real now!
Saw our bean today! Heartbeat was great at 139/minute. Measuring exactly 7 weeks. RE said pregnancy looks perfect. She does want to watch a cyst on one of my ovaries. It's pretty big and could twist
Had our 2nd ultrasound today at 7w4d. Baby was measuring at 7w2d, which the doctor said is normal. He also had a hard time taking the pic because the baby was hiding, so he said the measurement could have just been because the image wasn't perfect. We heard and saw the heartbeat, and it was 140! We started the appt with a CRNP who couldn't find the baby, and I was immediately tearing up - thank god the OB came in and found it.
Here's my blurry pic. My cell isn't really getting a good one of it:
Had my first ultrasound today and it was all good news. I'm 6.3 and measured 6.5 with a heartbeat of 120. I'm actually starting to feel vaguely optimistic about this pregnancy.
So, I'm 6w5d measuring right on time, due November 13th. I am a bit bummed about the pic quality but w/e. It was an abdominal ultrasound, not transvag. Looks like a mermaid on a bicycle to me.
We were able to see AND hear the heartbeat today, totally cried.. 126bpm, baby! Husband was holding our toddler and showed him the monitor (since his face was shoved in Robin Hood) and he grinned and pointed too, looked over at me with cheek. Such a great moment. So trippy to hear our heartbeats together like that, but I needed it. Made this a million times more real to me. Makes the nausea and the exhaustion worth it.
Thanks for the good vibes ladies, I am so glad you're here for my ride.

5w1d transabdominal. Happy little sac. Hopefully we'll see pole soon!

Saw the heartbeat during the ultrasound but didn't hear it. Tech said it's too early to hear and she was surprised to even see one this early!
