Ultrasound Thread

edited March 2016 in November 2016 Moms
I saw this on the October BMB and thought we would be seeing a lot of ultrasound pictures coming up soon!  In order to help contain the number of threads showing ultrasounds, post pictures of your ultrasounds here.  Be sure to crop out your name and any other identifying info from the ultrasound.  Also, be sure to let us know where you are in your pregnancy!

  • @BumpAdmin @BumpCaitlin @BumpTara Can we please get a sticky for this thread? Thanks!
  • I had an ultrasound yesterday but they wouldn't give us a pic because there was no fetal pole yet (I'm 5w2d today). So I'll get a pic next time.
  • Oh @aquasocks, you're having a blob too!

Sorry @Des321 I cannot see a thing in your U/S. Of course, I can't see much in mine either (hence the helpful label).

  • @kns1988 or anyone else who might know... is that true across the board? Once they see the heart beat, your MC rate is 1-5%??? That would be awesome!
  • @GraceUponGrace09, I'm not sure if it's across the board. He said that because I had a little bit of bleeding, they call it a threatened miscarriage, but now that there's a heartbeat the percentage is only 1-5. It made me feel good, so I'm sticking with it!

  • @blecherears I'm am not sure what the majority opinion is but I would appreciate if you delete that info out of this thread and maybe make a new thread for that. I know many BMB have a specific thread for the chances of not having a mc. I was specifically going to try and avoid that all together.

Sorry didn't mean to offend anyone. Was trying to answer a PP question about other poster's comments. I have removed the information.

  • @blecherears Thanks! Don't worry, you didn't offend me. I just am trying my hardest to avoid that info since it did me no good last time.

@GraceUponGrace09 from the Miscarriage Association in the U.K.:

    "
Research amongst women with a history of recurrent miscarriage has shown that those who saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy had a 78% chance of the pregnancy continuing.  It also showed that seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks increased the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks that went up to 99.4%."

My quick Google came up with that reference as the only medically backed result. FWIW, my baby had a strong heartbeat at 6w but I miscarried less than a week later in December.

Not really. It depends on when the heartbeat is seen and whether or not you have a history of repeat loss. I can provide citations if anyone is interested, but depending on your age, obstetric history, and the point at which the heart beat is seen, the literature says the chance of miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat can be as low as 2% or as high as 29%, so it's important not to throw around the "5%" number because it's not true for everyone.

It also depends on other health conditions you may have that are linked with increased rates of miscarriage (hypothyroidism being one). I hate these stats and just want to hit a fast forward button through first tri.
  • So excited for everyone's little blobs! I have my first (ever) ultrasound in a little over two weeks, and am so excited/nervous. That'll be 6w 4d I think. Fingers crossed for a tiny blob w a strong heart beat like you alls. :)

  • @GraceUponGrace09 I know someone who saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks and had a miscarriage at 10 weeks. It is not a guarantee.

@Knottie76627123 Congrats on your first ever US!! At that early you should be prepared for it to be a vaginal probe. They aren't painful, just a bit weird (especially if you're only used to DH being in there!)

I'm so excited for mine! My Dr does 3D ultrasounds every time and it's so amazing to me to see the progression!

  • LOL @AandDM2014 - I had one a few months ago when they realized my IUD was out of place so I'm prepared for that weirdness....though this will be way higher stakes emotionally!

Love seeing all these little tadpole-blobs!

i had my first ultrasound this morning at 6 weeks 5 days. I was a nervous wreck, but it went well. We saw the heartbeat and the baby measured exactly as it should have according to my ovulation date. I won't be able to really relax until after my next appointment since we lost our baby at 9 weeks last time... But I do feel a lot better now that we've seen our little peanut.

ETA- I dont think my picture is showing up?

Congrats to you!!! Yes, we can see that beautiful baby in the picture.
  • @ewiltz1921 congrats...you may want to edit the personal info out of your photo...Internet safety ftw! There be crazies out there!
