Re: Randoms Thread-February

  • My mom turns 60 in August. Her birthday is during the busiest time of year for my dad's business (my mom helps on evenings and weekends during this time) and she always feels like her birthday gets neglected. At Christmas (pre-BFP) I talked to my dad about my mom's milestone birthday and he seemed willing to help cover the costs of me taking her to Vegas for a long weekend. My mom loves Vegas but my dad has no desire to ever go. If we take the trip on her birthday, I will be 33-34 weeks pregnant. With DS, I was doing pretty well at that stage of pregnancy, but I am still debating if I should go (maybe go a bit earlier?) or not. Hmmm...tough decisions.

  • My daughter was sent home from school with a fever which means she can't go tomorrow because she hasn't to be fever free for 24 hours. Meanwhile she's running circles around the house while I attempt to put out fires at work. Don't know how these WAHMs do it. I would fail.

  • No matter how hard I try I cannot get off the couch. I have reheated my coffee multiples times but can't bring it to my mouth and take a sip. Bleghh sounds super gross and therefore I cannot function. :/
I couldn't stand the smell of coffee in the beginning of my first pregnancy. I'd given up caffeine a couple months prior (wasn't good for my blood pressure), so luckily I wasn't deprived of it, but DH is badly addicted. He compromised by only drinking it in the mornings (least likely time I would smell it) and at work.

On that note, the smell I can't deal with this pregnancy is garlic. Normally I love it, but one whiff and I gag.

  • @marajay6 - Bump it up to 30 weeks maybe? Just to be a little safer in the feel-good zone?  Might also be a bigger surprise for your mama if you can coordinate the surprise and make sure she's free for that weekend then spring it on her a couple days ahead?

  • You're a hero, @izzetoot! I'm sure she was so grateful.
  • Soo we usually go on our yearly beach trip in October. Obviously that isn't going to work out this year, so my whole family has changed plans to go in May. MIL and aunt just booked the condos. I am thankful they're accommodating but now even more nervous about seeing a baby and heartbeat soon. And a little dreading being on the 11th floor if the elevators were to be out of order!!!

Also, PGAL brain..I told my SIL my concerns and she's like.. you would probably know if something was wrong before your u/s...um no not always! And she thought it was pointless to worry about zika virus because "mosquitos aren't around in Florida in May." A little invalidating. :/

  • @mom2adoodle I get what you mean! I have had 2 dreams where I FLIPPED out on the 2 most important people in my life. In one dream I yelled and screamed at my husband for leaving a household item I needed at work. And then last night I had a dream where I actually punched my mom a few times in the face! :( I love my mother so I was quite horrified when I woke up after that. All she did was leave me in a store to go help my friend buy a dress for a dance... (I still have dreams where I need to buy a dress like for prom lol). It was so crazy. I have had a pretty even temperament so far in my pregnancy so I just wonder if my hormonal rage is acting out in my dreams instead. Which I suppose I prefer that!

  • I had a dream the other night that I was out at a party drinking all night and passed out on the couch... Then woke up ( in the dream) and realized I must have forgotten I was pregnant the night before thinking " oh my god what have I done!!"

Team Jake. All day, every day, up all night.

Kill all of the people. Idc.
  • Also, did a spreadsheet of local infant photographers. Looking to book someone for baby's first week once we have our twelve week u/s.  :p

I'm with you, @JennM205 ! As long as they don't turn severe, I love a good storm. And some good porch time to go with it.
  • @frogdog06 YES. Burn everything else to the ground if it gets him more screen time. This season is kinda meh anyway.

I had a few like that my first pregnancy. In one, I was violently cussing out my 81 year old grandpa because he was trying to reassure me about something, and I knew he was wrong. They always kind of freaked me out like I'd actually done something horrible instead of just had a crazy dream.

My dreams this time aren't angry, but they're still mostly unpleasant. Last night I had a dream some random man (that I guess was my bf) was trying to propose to me, but I didn't want to marry him. I kept telling DH, who was apparently my ex in the dream... and was with us while the other guy was proposing, that he was the only one I ever saw myself spending the rest of my life with. It was a despairing dream.

  • Last time I most certainly had dreams that I was pregnant and didn't know who the father was... or that I thought my husband was the father then the baby arrives as a girl (we knew we were having a boy) and clearly of a different ethnicity than my husband and me. Very very strange.. then it would take me a few minutes in the morning to realize that it's all ok.  I don't know if pregnancy gives me really weird dreams, or if I always have weird dreams and never remember them.

Sometimes mid-day something happens and it almost reminds me of my dream the night before, but I can't quite grasp the full memory. Brains are weird.

  • @lovelylauren86 my daughter woke up about 43 times last night so I feel your pain. Yawn. Wish I could drink my usual 12 cups of coffee after a night like that.

  • Totally feeling sorry for myself.  My 30th bday is coming up on a Sunday and my nephew's 5th bday is 2 days later.  I just found out today that my SIL is having his party on my actual birthday and they live 2 hours from us.  My husband says we don't have to go, but my kids are his only cousins and the only ones invited to the birthday party, so I can't do that to him or to them!  I think it will just be awkward to be there and I really don't have to spend 4 hours of my day in the car!  We were planning on doing something pretty low key anyway since I'm pregnant, but this just puts quite the damper on our plans!  I'm leaning towards celebrating with my kids and husband on Saturday.  Then on my actual birthday, sending DH and the kids up to the party and seeing if my mom and sister want to come down for pedicures and shopping or a movie or something.  Is it pretty crappy of me for missing my nephew's birthday party because it's my birthday?  Little Caesar's and grocery store birthday cake aren't on the top of my list for my birthday lunch...

  • I haven't really started dreaming yet in this pregnancy (at least I can't remember anything).  But with my last pregnancy, I dreamed constantly that we were having a boy.  We were Team Green so I didn't know one way or the other but when I was awake and lucid, I was convinced we were having a girl.  When I slept, I dreamed only of delivering a boy.  It was so strange.  (We ended up with a girl.)

In addition to the baby boy dreams, I had a ton of extremely bizarre, detailed dreams - which resulted in a LOT of WTF? moments upon waking, haha.

  • @tiffanyschaetz No way!  That sounds like a perfect way to spend your birthday to me.  I think you're being very accommodating and compromising.   You're not preventing your kids and DH from going and you're still allowing yourself to enjoy your day.   And I mean it's your 30th!!   Nobody should fault you wanting it to be 'your' day and for opting for a little extra pampering.    Besides if anything comes of it, I'd simply tell SIL that your mom and sister have had the special pampering day planned for you for a while.   :)
  • @tiffanyschaetz sounds like a perfect birthday! Your husband and your kids still get the benefit of seeing family/cousins and you get a day to yourself.

  • @tiffanyschaetz - I thought the little caesars and store bought cake were part of your birthday plan at home for yourself.  I want to eat that so bad!!!  What is pregnancy doing to me?

...oh that's right, I liked little caesar's before pregnancy and I friggin LOVE store bought cake if it has the GOOD frosting on it.  Not sorry.

Meijer has the best store bought cake frosting. I like it better than most of my local cake places' frostings. Frosting... Mmmm...

@tiffanyschaetz Go for it! You only turn 30 once, and you should enjoy your day. Your nephew still gets his cousins at his party. Everybody wins.

@AnnaS930 @camichael84 Sorry here but I have to disagree.  The ONLY store bought cake to eat is from Wegmans.   They're cakes are the best!   Give me a marble cake, with strawberry filling in the middle, and their frosting and I'm in heaven for days!!!!!

  • @LakeR2014 I'm in the Midwest, and we don't have Wegmans here. I actually had to look it up to see where they are because I haven't heard of them. I haven't spent much time out east, obviously. Your description sounds delicious, though.

@PSUBecky23 So much this! If we ever have to move, it must be where there's a Wegmans.   This is legit my biggest criteria.   I've had one near me my whole life...I've become spoiled and cannot do without.   Thankfully DH agrees with my obsession so knows not to take me away from them.

I was excited to treat myself to a Starbucks molten chocolate latte on the way to work this morning and then I forgot to order it decaf and even though I KNOW it's okay to drink some caffeine (I looked it up and it has 185mg), I have been so vigilant about avoiding caffeine that it's totally ruining it for me. Taking a few sips, but can't get out of my head. Blergh.

@lovelylauren86 --that was my night too, so I should totally embrace the caffeine! Why do they fall asleep as SOON as they are somewhere we don't want them to sleep. Argh.

Okay, it looks awesome, and I'd love to shop there. It puts me in mind of the Market District we recently got here, which I adore.

It is!  They just celebrated 100 years in business and had free cake for anyone who came into their stores that day.   It was a huge celebration.    I swear I don't work there, I just think the atmosphere there and their quality of food can't be beat.    Plus they have an amazing bakery and whenever we go to a Bills game we always grab their breakfast pizzas to enjoy while tailgating - so delish!

  • i have a SERIOUS craving for cake now! Not just anyone, but my wedding cake. Someone had to say strawberry filling *drool* my wedding cake had a fresh strawberry filling and amazing frosting! I may have to call the lady who did it and stash some cupcakes in the freezer for these kinds of cravings.
