I found out today that I passed my 1 hour test! I celebrated with ice cream for dessert tonight. I was a little worried because I've gained quite a bit of weight and now I'm just happy and relieved to be in the clear. FX for everyone!
Congrats yay!!! By any chance did your doc give you your mg/dl number ?
  • I'm having the test on Friday. Can't wait to be done and have results.
  • I got my results the same day. Kaiser emails you lab results. I passed with an 84 I believe. I too had sugar that night!
  • Mine is in the morning. I failed my 1 hour with DD so I'm really hoping I don't have to do the 3 hour again!

They didn't tell me over the phone but I checked my labs online and I got a 58. I have no real reference but it seems low so I'll probably email my OB to ask about it. I never understand my labs...
  • I did mine two weeks ago and still have not gotten the results! Getting frustrated!

  • I passed! I was super nervous as type 1 Diabetes runs in my family. My mom had GD with me and then it did not go away. I was worried it might happen to me as well.

They sent the results to my online portal and it broke down what my numbers were and what the normal ranges are.

    GL with yours!
  • I'm so nervous to get my results from my 1 hour on Friday. I had originally planned to take it first thing Monday but had to reschedule for a meeting and since I took it in the afternoon I had eaten two meals already that day and I'm nervous now that eating will contribute to a higher number. My doctor didn't tell me to fast and I wouldn't have been able to for that long anyway but ugh I really don't want to have to take the 3 hour.
  • I failed my one hour and have to take the 3 hour tomorrow. Boooooo. Really hoping I pass
  • So I haven't even been told by my dr about the glucose test... It kinda freaks me out that everyone is talking about it and my dr hasn't even mentioned it to me! I'll be 25 wks Wednesday and have another appt on Thursday.

My dr does it between 26-28 weeks. I had an appt at 25w5d. I asked ahead of time if I could take it then. Otherwise they would have had me come back within the next week or 2.
  • At 28 weeks both this time and last time.
  • Ok that makes me feel better! I was going to ask her about it at my appt Thursday. I'm a FTM and see new things on here all of the time, almost everything else has been right on track with the rest.
  • I failed my 1-hour test.  Borderline failed my 3-hour test (one hour was high, one hour was on the cutoff).  My doctor did not want to officially diagnose me GD, but wants me to meet with a diabetic counselor and track my sugars.  I've been really struggling, to be honest.  I know it's not my fault but I certainly feel like it is.  I feel like the next 13 weeks are going to be constantly planning meals, thinking about meals, counting carbs, eating, testing, etc etc etc.  I feel like it's not fair since I was nauseous and hated food for so long, only to feel better for a few weeks and now have to cut out anything delicious.  I'm terrified about pricking my finger and that I'll be put on insulin.  Not to mention the worries about the baby.  I need to stop worrying until I talk to the counselor, but I'm just having a hard time with it.

  • I passed the 1 hour test both pregnancies. This time my number was 107. Normal is <130 mg/dl according to my results.

I take my on Friday, 27weeks. My doctor didn't mention anything about it until my last appointment when I was 25weeks. My guess is your doc will mention it at your appointment on Thursday.

  • I had an early test at 18 weeks because I had GD with my first pregnancy. I passed that one! Have to test again in 4 weeks (at 28 weeks) fingers crossed I pass that one too!

I had the same feelings with my first pregnancy when I was diagnosed with GD...again, my numbers weren't crazy high, but too high to ignore. I met with the diabetic counselor and we came up with really easy meal plans and showed my how to use the glucometer...it really didn't hurt at all. It did suck because it was summertime and I couldn't have ice cream or lemonade or anything like that.

Honestly, it was kind of a pain, but you quickly figure out what you can eat (Chipotle burrito bowls were my friend when out and about!) And there was absolutely nothing wrong with my delivery or baby, he was born at a very normal 7lbs, so it was all worth it in the end. The benefit was I got to see him every week due to the frequency of ultrasounds to track growth!

  • @LondonToSavannah thank you for your response!  Did you have a sweet tooth before you were diagnosed and if so, did you find that your cravings for sugar lessened?  I have SUCH a sweet tooth and am worried I'm just going to fighting cravings for months.  Did your GD go away after you gave birth?

Did your doc/midwife contact you to discuss the results?
  • @AnastasiaBeaverhausen09 I did have a sweet tooth! I wouldn't say my cravings lessened, I just made better swaps. Like instead of having ice cream I discovered Yasso frozen yogurt bars that have a high amount of protein and were a tasty substitute. Also, Kind bars were a good snack, again they had protein and fiber and chocolate!

My GD was gone a day after giving birth...I had a huge piece of chocolate cake to celebrate! My doc said I would literally "deliver" my GD when I delivered my placenta, as that's what causes it.

OT: I forgot my lunch today and now I know what I'm having. :)

Back on topic: Mine is on the 17th. Thanks for sharing all the info, ladies!

    Me: 38; DH: 41
    DS: Born 5-17-16

  • @LondonToSavannah I can't have chocolate and I feel like a lot of the better dessert options have chocolate (looking at you, Skinny Cow!).  But the Yasso bars look good so I will look for those at the store.  Thank you again!

  • I don't do mine until the last week of February, but I do have a question. Is it true that it must be done in the morning? I was told that it would yield better results, but that the afternoon appointment is okay. I have a family history of diabetes, although I ate well before pregnancy. During pregnancy, well...7 bowls of Apple Jacks each morning (not drinking the milk tho).
  • @wsgjmw1 My Dr doesn't call unless there's an issue. She said if the number is outside of the range, they'd call before I get the results. It says normal range is 70-134 and I was 84. I usually email my dr/ nurses to get confirmation though.

Thanks! and congrats on passing your test! Is that your daughter in your profile pic? She is beautiful!

My office prefers to do them in the morning. I actually got instructions on what I can and can't eat/drink before hand so I actually took the first appointment of the day so I don't have to go all day worrying I might eat something I shouldn't. I think it's a smaller chance something might interfere with the results if you do it earlier maybe?

I did a one hour earlier in the pregnancy and passed it (was done bcoz of family history)  , then did another at 25 weeks and failed , did the 3 hours and one reading was high : ( so now I have to monitor my diet and measure my blood sugar at home after 12 hours fasting and 2 hours after every meal 3 days a week : / hope everything goes well.

I will have my glucose test in 2 weeks.

Last pregnancy I was overweight so they had me do the 1 hour test at 20w & 27w. I passed both without any glitches.

That's awesome! I'll keep fingers crossed for both of us that we get good results!
  • I had my 3 hour today and it wasn't nearly as awful as I expected. I'm crossing my fingers I pass!
  • I have mine next week. My mom had GD with all 4 of her babies, so i'm a little concerned as there's a history there. She said each time her symptoms were different. Guess we'll find out.

  • I asked my dr about it via MyChart and she said she has it down for my following appt., I will be 27wks. Diabetes runs in the family on my dads side, neither my mom or my older sister had GD with their babies so hoping I have the same results. Though, I am nervous bcuz I carry myself more like my dads mom. Fingers crossed:)
  • just found out I passed with a 104! :)
  • ahhhhhh my levels came back slightly elevated according to the nurse, so i have to go in for the 3-hour test. so bummed. Wish me luck momma's !
