@kp90 I plan to wash bedding, clothes, everything before its first use, but I'm going to wait until closer to May to do it. We are keeping the door to the nursery shut for now, but our dog sheds so bad and has that kind of wiry fur that that just floats everywhere. If I were to wash it now, I'm sure I would want to wash it again before LO gets here anyway, so I'm just going to wait.
I've washed all clothes with special baby soap (which gave everything that brand new baby smell that's amazing). I'm getting the furniture tomorrow, so I'll likely clean all the bedding this weekend as well.
I love that grey is so in right now! I'm loving all the soothing nursery designs!
I feel the opposite... and am guessing that none of you ladies that are so into the grey live in Portland/Seattle area. It's grey everywhere I look for 7-8 months of the year here, the idea of painting a bedroom grey sounds so depressing! I'm having a hard time figuring out a color though, everything nursery-related on Pinterest and everywhere is grey right now since it's so popular, and I need some non-grey inspiration!
Can I get some design feedback? My initial plan was grey, white and accents of coral. As a reminder, here is the room so far, as well as some accent pieces I have on order
So I have been agonizing about a rug choice for weeks. I originally wanted coral to bring in some color but having SUCH a hard time finding a coral rug, in budget, in the right color. And the more I look at the ugly rug color already in the room, I dont know that a coral rug is the best option Thinking grey or white now... but is that too much grey and white? I can still bring in touches of coral in accents like changing out the changing pad cover and sheets, and getting some coral bins for the changing table. I am looking at the following rug... is it too much?
Or would you just go with a super shaggy white rug, like a sheepskin maybe? And risk it just getting super dirty?
Why am I agonizing over a freaking rug?
I just feel like it is sooooo grey and blah right now. What else can I do to liven it up? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
@yogahh I think that rug would work really well!! I see what you mean about the carpet...might not look amazing with a coral rug on top. I think you can use other accents to get those pops of color like the changing pad, maybe a colorful tabletop lamp/lampshade, etc.
Would you consider a wall decal of some kind for even more color and fun? I found this one at BBB but you can get all different kinds at a lot of different places!
ETA: you don't have to use the shape that they did in the picture, you can slice and dice the decals however you want!

I like that decal idea! I need something for over the changing table and that could be a nice pop. Thanks for the idea
I think that rug will work really nicely because you sorta do need to cover the carpet colour a bit. Once you have your coloured accents in it'll make a big difference especially with things on the walls and the bedding etc. We have a very neutral palette as well with touches of pink and gold. Even though it's not finished its amazing how quickly the small pops of colour brighten the room and make it less blah. If all else fails just keep adding things to your walls that are coral or add a coral wall decal, or paint a mirror. IMO those are all much cheaper easier options than a rug...and I'd know because I'm trying to find a cheap cute pink and grey rug currently and I'm ready to give up!!!!
@yogahh - Your room is so white and the carpet is so much darker (by contrast), I think the white/grey chevron rug would be perfect to lighten up the floor, then you could get some brighter contrast pieces for the walls, bright sheets, mobiles, etc. to balance things out a little more. With a brighter rug on the floor I think the room will feel too bottom-heavy and out of whack.
@yogahh you could do the chevron rug and do a coral colored poof ottoman? And a pretty coral blanket or pillows on your glider?
As someone who previously had a white shaggy rug, it ended up looking dingy and grey basically a week after we bought it. The glamorous idea didn't translate for us, since we actually live and use our apartment.
@yogahh we're running in a similar problem (medium gray walls, light grey furniture, white curtains). We got some decals with some aqua owls and an orange birdhouse (and white birch trees), the bedding is white/grey/aqua chevron (with solid aqua sheets), and we're getting an aqua keekaroo peanut changer that's going on the dresser. I'll try to find some other ways to incorporate a few more touches of color.
I definitely like that rug and agree with other people on the decals and other touches of color.
Ps you could paint the frame on your elephant drawers coral. That would look super cute then you wouldn't feel like your furniture is all white!
OHHHHH I love this idea. I am a MESS with paint, but might be worth a shot!
Get a small microfiber roller from Home Depot and do it with that instead of a brush. It'll go on more evenly and less messy too. You probably won't even need to sand the wood back first. Just get a sample pot of paint and use that...cheap and easy
@yogahh May I ask where you found that rug? It looks like it'd be the perfect size & color for the nursery at my house...which has carpet in the most horrible brown-pink color I've ever seen. We were going to replace it this year, but other stuff came up and we're going to have table that project for the time being.

Looking to get this one customized to fit with our grey/white/aqua chevron and owl theme. That'll be a great way to add an extra pop of colour above the dresser/changing table.

I'm the same with the grey (and also the chevron atm.) Maybe it's just me not wanting to have a nursery that looks like every other nursery I have seen on Pinterest or in baby mags but I really want to stay away from the chevron. As for the grey . . . I just find it a bit bleh especially since LO will be born in fall (in NZ.) She will see enough grey with all the rain and clouds for the first 6 months of her life that I want some color in that nursery. I can see how living in Seattle like areas would have the same effect.
This is the rug we might be using! This or there is also a aqua and white one they have we might use.
Just got back from target. Saw both color options and love the rug. Super soft if you haven't felt it yet. But it NOW though and online. It's $10 off online!!
So I can trade in the crappy stuff they want to give me and get a discount on the new stuff I want. I'll just need to find an excuse for why it's not in my home when they come over lol
Ladies I am super bummed out. My pink accent wall is where the crib was suppose to go but with the dresser on the wall next to it it was not looking right. They were too close together and the crib would have to be pushed way off center so I had to rearrange the whole room and not sure if I like it I guess there isn't much I can do seeing as it's a small room and bigger furniture. Now what to do with the pink accent wall? Thoughts? Opinions?
Some progress was made here this weekend! Got the decals on the wall (the crib will go in the left corner...looks more crammed than it really is) up today, and the furniture was delivered on Friday. However, we are now waiting for a replacement crib to be delivered sometimes this week as the guy who made this crib was clearly hungover (oval hole missing in one of the front legs, so can't put them on, and misaligned holes so we can't put the top front piece on either). I was in an awful mood after finding that out yesterday, and seriously hope the new one will be fine...otherwise we're a little screwed because it takes up to 14 weeks to receive it, and by then I should have given birth already...
@kp90 leave it just as it is. It looks gorgeous!!! Doesn't matter that the crib isn't on the pink wall one bit! I love it and that shade of pink looks perfect...soft and bubblegummy! Ps our accent wall has the crib off centre too...I don't think it looks silly like that, in case that's the only reason you moved your original idea around

I think the pink wall would be a great place to display framed prints or letters to spell out her name. Looks good though!
Thank you! @kbrands7@yogahh@ayeshaohara those are all good ideas. I guess I could focus attention to the pink wall with frames or something big in the middle. I guess it's just a bummer when you have an idea in your head and then it doesn't quite work out
@kp90 Would you be able to switch the rocking chair and crib or that didn't work either? Otherwise, just like others have suggested, just had some frames/letters/shelves and it'll look great just the same!
@KidShrink that's what my mom suggested when I showed her pictures. I guess I didn't think of that and my goal was to have the chair in a corner so it's not so awkward but I may switch it around just to see what it looks like.
I'd try switching the rocker and the crib. I love the paint choices!
We too are working with a tiny room. My husband spent a lot of this weekend on the iPad mapping out different options for the furniture we'd like to buy and how it would use up the space. I thought we had it all figured out until I started seeing the layouts. I'm hoping we will have a better idea of what we are buying by next weekend. We did finally paint the nursery during the big snow storm. Painted it light blue because we were pretty much set on a gray crib but now we are most likely switching to a white crib. Oh well...
@kp90 for what it's worth, we had our glider in the middle of the wall and angled for the first year and now we have it in a corner, and I hate it in the corner! I don't rock in it since DS is almost 23 months, but hitting both walls sometimes drives me insane. Sit in your chair and test it out, you'll likely be in it a lot at first so figure out what works best motion wise.
The nursery is painted! It's a lot lighter blue-grey than this picture. Now we have to build the crib and get the decor up! I'm finally feeling like we are getting close to being ready for LO to arrive.

@yogahh How into hanging ceiling decor would you be? I used a lot of coral accents when I hosted my sister's baby shower this past October. Over the food table, we hung these tissue paper pom-poms and paper lanterns in alternating colors at different lengths. Maybe you could use something like this over the crib or in some other part of the room to bring in some more color. I got the pom-poms, paper lanterns, and the twine they were hung with at Hobby Lobby, and it was all really inexpensive but gave the decor that "extra something" it needed.

I am doing this in a way!!! I have a blank wall, and buying the floral pompoms. But I want to attached to the wall... just have to figure that one out! Something like this in corals and greys. Great minds think alike
Random, but I'm going to throw some STM advice out there b/c I can't remember if it's been mentioned before or not. If anyone is trying to decide where to put hanging things in the room for the baby to look at (whether a really engaging print or a mobile sort of thing), I really suggest putting things over the changing table/pad. It's invaluable to have something that you can talk about and that baby can be distracted by while you change/dress them, especially as they get older and squirmy. There's also no worries then about things falling into a crib or collecting dust above where they sleep, etc.
