Ladies... I am seriously struggling with the nursery. So I want some color (I think light pink, purple or yellow) maybe an accent wall that matches the bedding. Then doing the other walls a very light tan. So my best bet is to find maybe two sets of bedding I like and then match the paint color to the accent wall? Is it easier to just paint all the walls one neutral color that way the bedding doesn't matter?? And where can I find cute bedding? I barely find any that really stick out to me. Its all very overwhelming at the moment and when I try to look in stores like I said I don't find any "sets" that I like. Heeeeelllllp.
I will be excited to read as everyone continues to share and I'd love to share updates as well! Our nursery-to-be is a mess right now! We're in the process of painting all the brown trim in our house white and replacing all of our brown doors with white doors (biggest project EVER! T minus 5 months! LOL!!) So on the to-do list: move the current furniture out as it's currently a spare bedroom, paint the trim white, replace the room door and closet door, clean out the closet (yikes), THEN we're planning on white waynescoating with grey on top, with a navy blue accent wall ... and we've picked out a light grey set for crib/dresser, dark grey rocking chair... and we're going with navy blue and aquas to accent the greys So excited for what it will turn into over the coming months! It will be a total over haul!!
Oh, also! We're doing a *slight* elephant theme... just a few things here and there
Also on furniture selection ... We've decided to splurge on furniture. We are hoping to keep the nursery furniture for 1-2 more babies after our first, but change color scheme/theme. Our crib is 499, dresser is 699 (we are only doing the dresser, not with the attached shelving as shown > we are also only doing the long dresser, not the tall one), changing table for the dresser is 99, nightstand is 249 (ouch!), and we are purchasing the conversion kits both for the toddler bed and the adult bed, which I think are $99 and $129.
That was good advice I got from my sister-in-law ... but the conversion kits when you buy the crib! If your crib goes out of stock/isn't made anymore by the time you're ready to convert into a bed, you may not have the option anymore.
The picture below is in "Cloud" (light grey)... they have a BEAUTIFUL color called Cashew that I'm in love with also... It looks a little more antique/rustic and it's just gorgeous. I really wanted to do grey/navy/aqua for our boy and didn't feel right with the cashew but I suggest it for anyone else!! We checked these out in person and they feel great too, the quality feels like it's worth the price!
Another important tip... we're buying each piece of furniture one at a time and using the 20% off Buy Buy Baby coupons each time (if you sign up for text/emails you get one every month)... you can also use Bed Bath and Beyond coupons at Buy Buy Baby... but watch out for the list of exclusions!!
I've been using mood board to come up with ideas. We are moving in February, so I can't actually start decorating until then. I centered most everything around the dresser that I already had and let SO pick the bedding I still need to tie in the Aqua color a little more somehow, maybe in the ribbon mobile and pick a wall color.
@tripledaggerWed95976 thank you! Also love your prints and wall color!!! My husband showed up with the play gym. I think he got it at pottery barn and it was during a sale. Little things like this excite me so much! I know we still have a long list but everything so far was well in the budget.
Check out the dwell studio sets. They are usually on sale at wayfair.com as well. That's where we got ours, because everything else was too much/too cutesy.
I see several of us are going with similar color schemes. ....I've decided on Coral, Navy, Mint, and Gray. We painted the walls gray with a mint accent wall. The crib and glider are gray. I haven't made a decision on the glider yet. The dresser and nightstand are navy and I painted the knobs coral to make them a little more girly. I did a pegboard changing station and will move that stand holding the cubes once I decide if I'm getting an actual changing table or moving the dresser underneath and adding a changing pad to the dresser. The nursery is coming along!!
*cry* We haven't done a single thing yet. We planned to do a lot over DH's vacation but didn't manage to get around to it. We have not purchased any items yet either. We had a bit of a money sink last month with the car and other random surprise expenses so now things are going to be insanely tight till baby arrives.
My aunt kept insisting on buying the crib because my mother isn't around to do so and she keeps telling me that she would have done that. Now after this last month I am hopeful that she is still feeling insistent about it...and I feel rotten for feeling that way. Things will ease up after May but I can't help feeling stressed by new money woes that cropped up so suddenly. I was looking forward to sharing my nursery plans with everyone but it seems that it will be A) slow and steady if at all and B ) a lot of DIY and second hand if I cant hunt anything down.
@onislandtime I love that ribbon mobile!!! I love this one in the mint/aqua tones - I also recently found this string/ball one on Pinterest and am thinking about doing it...
@kp90 I may have done the opposite of you. I knew I wanted the walls a neutral color (gray)with an accent wall (mint green). I'm not a fan of the sets I've seen so I picked a gray chevron bedding set and will use crib sheets to bring out some color. We don't really have a theme....moreso colors & patterns. I attached some photos in the thread but I haven't got the bedding and ordered the crib last weekend.
Target, Etsy, and Caden Lane (more pricey) have several options. The latter two you can search by color
We just bought this crib and the coordinating changing table. I have been swooning over it since the 1st time I saw it.
Going with coral and greys and elephants! Some of the items I am purchasing to get the nursery started now that our spare room is pretty much empty. Rug will be coral ( I dont have a pic), and I am doing the same crib skirt as the crib pic. Getting some random canvas bins in grey and coral too.
Something I would love your help with...which mobile? I love the colorful one, as I think it will lighten up the room But the elephant one is pretty awesome, and the seller will customize color. But is this elephant overkill??? I am using it as an accent, and not over the crib (anything that can fall into the crib scares me!)
I already have some initial wall art that I can use in her room too if we go with our H name!
Evelyn has a crib! One of our friends keeps saying "I don't see anything girlie! Geeks can be girlie too!" and I want to punch her. Yes geeks can be girlie, but they also don't have to be... and I strongly dislike pink. I'm not happy with the mobile holder- we're going to try ordering the extended one to see if it sits higher.. or matching the attachments so we can make it taller anyway. The dresser should be here sometime next week :-)
I'm going to make a crib skirt out of this fabric: (I really wish we could adjust picture sizes but if we can I can't figure out how)
And we have this decal on the way to go on the wall behind the crib: Yea, our poor daughter can't escape the geek but it's ok, geeks are awesome.

Gorgeous! I love the coral and grey! I love both mobiles but being as I love elephants I would have to say do the elephant one- it's super unique and really pretty

I was going to say we are nursery twins! Elephants, elephants galore!
@yogahh elephants are the best!!! im trying so hard to not go totally overboard with buying way too much elephant stuff, it's so hard though becaude they're just so stinkin cute!
It's so cool to see all the baby rooms taking shape!
My husband has just finished filling in all the little nicks in the walls and window/door frames, and the ceiling paint is drying.
We have chosen Finding Nemo as our theme, with particular emphasis on the turtles. We've ordered a number of decals, including two portholes, Nemo blowing bubbles, a giant turtle, and the quote "just keep swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim!" So far, only the quote has come in. We're waiting for a few of the decals to choose the best wall color- thinking some sort of bright oceany blue (my dining room is painted key lime, to give you an idea of my taste).
The crib was purchased as a Christmas present, and we bought the bookshelf from Ikea. My husband can't wait to assemble after the painting is done!
I'm hoping to get more of the furniture at the baby shower (glider, ottoman, dresser, night stand, and crib converters, but we'll see!). Like another PP, we're getting slightly higher end furniture because we're planning to make it last.
@kit&cat thanks! I added some gray and blue green. It cost way more than buying one off etsy, which I didn't realize until I was halfway through lol
Another elephant fan here! We had the green chair from my daughter's nursery and moved it to Baby Boy's room. I've been purchasing items based on holiday sales so a little ahead of where I've been in the past for having baby's room ready. Here are a couple of pics so far!
I've been so torn about what to do in our nursery but after finding out it's a girl last night I took the plunge and ordered some things! Our nursery is already painted mint with a white Jenny Lind crib and dresser. We have a glider that is a grey-beige color with yellow flowers and mint/blue leaves and accents. I'll post a picture of existing stuff as we put it all together, but here are some items I've purchased or have on the to be purchased list!
Bottom middle is a crib skirt, left and right are crib sheets

yogahh Yes the rocker is Pottery Barn! It went on sale right after Christmas, so I HAD to order it?!?
I want it too! Just waiting for name confirmation so we can get it engraved. Did you?
Yes, this will be John IV, but we are calling him Jack (90% sure?!?) Husband made the call to get it engraved with "John." Now I just need to get him to commit to what he wants on the wall - Jack or John
We haven't started anying yet but will soon since we found out it's a girl. We're doing a baller theme with pinks and golds. We found the crib we had wanted at a consignment shop in amazing condition but it was in white instead of gray. Our walls are white and with the lease we can't paint so didn't want a white crib. I looked up baby friendly paint and we decided to paint the crib! So we'll paint the crib a light pink.
I also found on etsy these really cute water colors of different animals in tutus to hang on the walls

DS has that in his room still, it's his favorite part of bedtime - he plays on it for a few minutes while I organize everything. It's definitely worth it!
I love all the elephant themes! I'm not huge on animal/character themes myself, but if I were to decorate with any certain animal I would go with elephant too. Here is my idea for the mobile that's going in the nursery: https://www.merelymothers.com/2013/09/01/diy-mobile/
and here is the start of my attempt I still have a long ways to go, but I think it's looking good so far.
My mom bought us a nursery set: convertible crib, dresser, and chest from Babies R Us. DH and I purchased the bedding last week from Amazon. Both should be delivered this week so DH can start painting nursery this weekend!
Just ordered the crib and dresser this weekend! For those of you who might purchase from Babies R Us... online they're offering I think its 15% or 20% off if you spend $499.99 or more on furniture.
Also... we went IN store to order the crib on saturday because they said if we do it online ourselves you'll have to pay a large 'surcharge' AND they also told me the dresser was not in stock at the warehouse.. I just went online to order and it will be shipped to store in 7-10 days and there was no surcharge... hmmm... Just a little FYI.
@yogahh is that the Jenny Lind crib? I love it. We have the same one but in just plain wood. I got an antique mahogany dresser for $200 on Craigslist that I'm obsessed with so I wanted the crib to match. P.S. Do the elephant mobile - it's adorable.
I am still deciding on art and other decor but all of these are on my "want to buy" list:

Yes its the Jenny Lind. SWOON I love your crochet puff!
My husband is an English teacher so it's no surprise that the only real piece of furniture in our nursery so far is a book case. The little chair actually belonged to his grandfather as a boy which is nice to pass on, but before the book case was built it looked like a pretty somber time out room.
This is what we got so far. We first wanted to add wainscoting, but the room would be too white, no contrast from furniture. Saved time, but we have other projects in mind to personalize the room. Curtains hung, dresser up, some art, missing a nice armchair since this one belongs to our bedroom and doesn't really fit in. Can't wait to work on the canopy above the crib and pick some nice bedding from pottery barn. I love sitting in this room and just daydream!
@caterinwould love to know where you bought those adorable heart-shaped hooks for the wall?
