I'm actually starting to worry that I keep losing from MS is there a time I should be concerned about this granted I have weight to lose but still. also and I am so with you @noelietrex hard to not compare each other.
@Lindsayleigh1989 I'm in the same situation....lost about 6lbs since finding out and I don't have weight to lose so I'm really losing all my muscle. I do eat consistently just trying to fend off the nausea because I'm sick all the time. I'm hoping that with the second tri, if I feel better, I'll start seeing slow weight gain. Ugh ms sucks!!
I gained 40 with my first and will probably do the same again. My best advice is to not worry about it! Worry about after you have the baby. And I will say I lost 20 without doing a damn thing after a month. I lost my other 20 after I stopped breastfeeding (yes some people don't lose weight breastfeeding, I actually would have issues with my supply when I ate better and exercised, thanks a lot body!!)
I've only gained about 5 but my daughter is 9 months and I gained about 70 with her and she was 6 weeks early and lost about 30 right when she was born at of water weight ,but I never lost the rest so i am still up about 30-40 pounds from her and I am scared shit less about my weight gain but I love food and should be like 800lbs for what I eat even before the pregnancy. I get the your pregnant and 2 days later look like I'm 6 months ...smh
I had chronic diarrhea with my first. I lost 10 pounds in the first trimester last time because of it. I was having a reaction to the iron in my vitamin. I figured it out about 16 weeks, changed vitamins and I was good. I'm so happy not to have it this time, I'll gain whatever.
At 15 weeks, I'm down about 5lbs. I have some lbs to work with as I gained about 40lbs in the 6 mo leading up to getting pregnant. Getting off my meds I took for PCOS, and all the shots for IVF did not do me any favors!!! I figure I have some fluff to support baby, so I'm not worried about it at this point.
When pregnant with DD, I ate clean and did a minimum of 30min a day cardio. I still gained 75 pounds. Luckily, I lost 3/4 within a month of her birth, as it was all water weight. But I am not holding out much hope this pregnancy. The scale hasn't changed, but I think my muscle is just saying goodbye and it is being replaced with fat and water. I am 12w1d now, so I am anxiously waiting for MS to go away enough that I can at least start getting on the treadmill.
So I really thought I had gained weight (I weigh weekly), but according to my ob visit today I am the same weight I was when i had my first appointment. I fluctuated wildly in the last 4 weeks!
@Lyssiana probably water weight/bloat. I'm down a couple pounds recently, but have been eating pretty normally and not trying to lose weight. Kind of glad because the number on the scale was shooting up fast!
I got back from a three day work trip and the scale said I had gained 5.5 lbs!!!!! In three days.
I drank a lot of water the last day or two and now it looks like I actually only gained one. Which is just fine. 5.5 in 3 days scared the crap out of me
I know we're growing humans and gaining weight isn't necessarily bad, but some women do need to be careful of what they gain and I don't think it's a bad idea to keep an eye on which way the scale is moving.
I definitely eat often, though I've noticed that I get full more quickly which is probably why I'm down about 2 pounds from where I started (I'm 13 weeks). I'm way overweight to begin with, so I'm good with it and the OB is good with it. I have no idea what's going to happen in the coming months!
Am 11 weeks with my 3rd pregnancy and you definitely start showing and gaining more weight with the 3rd.all the muscles already been stretch come back n you feel more constipated than ever before. No fun!!! For sure lots of water weight gain too. Anyone on their 3rd pregnancy experienced this?... I mean I don't eat much cause, I eat less now that am pregnant. I get very nauceas, something I never experienced with my other 2 pregnancy and I still find myself somehow gaining weight.
I don't know what happened but I'm up 16 pounds already (16w). Looks like I'm going to get over the 25-35 recommended weight gain pretty quickly this time. Ugh. Definitely need to find a way to work out more and eat healthier..
Ive already gained 9. Its so difficult for me, happens EVERY time. I am normally a very lean person and have a high metabolism but when I get pregnant my body does the opposite; it stores all the calories. Over all I gained 35 with my first and second (which was recommended range by the doctor) but it was a challenge to keep myself within range.
With all of my pregnancies I gain a lot in the beginning and then it seems to slow down towards the end.
My first pregnancy I had gestational diabetes and was put on a strict carb diet and ended up loosing weight towards the end. I haven't been tested yet, but feel like I might have it this time too, so I've just started putting myself on the GD diet so I feel better and I can already tell a difference in my weight gain.
It is an eating schedule that consists of 3 meals and 3 snacks throughout the day. Meals should be between 30-45 grams of carbs and snacks should be 15 with 2-3 hours between snacks and meals. It sucks because its very difficult to refrain from cravings when pregnant but I have to force myself to to make sure I don't feel bad physically (light headed, blurred vision, extra tired and thirsty) and because I know im doing it for my baby.
Also, coming from someone who gained fast and was worried my whole pregnancy about weight, I lost the baby weight EXTREMELY fast. Within the first two weeks was back to normal and the months following I went down to the smallest Ive ever been. I contribute it to breastfeeding, but luckily my body stored some extra body fat during pregnancy, because it took it away while nursing. Just something to think about.
If you are eating healthy, just know that your body is doing what it needs to do and try not to worry or beat yourself up over it.
With my first I gained about 40...and she was 10 weeks early, so no telling what I would have gained had I gone term. I was young and thin at the time, and ate whatever because I assumed it would come right off. Wrong. This go round I started out overweight and mildly active, I've lost 10lbs at 18 weeks. I'm not too concerned about it at this point. No, I'm not eating enough because of MS, but it's getting better. However, because I'm overweight I really only need to gain about 15-20lbs, so I'm sure it will happen. Everyone is different, so as long the Dr is happy, I'm happy.
I gained about 10 pounds by week 10 and then gained nothing the next month. I'm not sure if it all balances out or what. I know the baby is growing more now, so I feel like maybe I should be trying to gain a little (like half a pound a week?), but I'm also already eating ALL THE TIME still trying to curb nausea. That's how the weight came on so early in the first place. I think deep down I know babies are pretty good at getting what they need from mom. I gained 37 pounds with DD and she was only 7 lb. 1 oz. 11 days overdue. My friend gained 18 and had a 10 pound baby. Guess I'll just try to eat healthy-ish and pay attention to when I'm hungry (nauseous).
5'2 and 126lbs when i started pregnancy at 6-7 weeks. I'm 22 weeks now and have gained 13 lbs. I have really been tryna stay off the sweets as I am addicted to ice cream and cookies and I was having these like everyday and noticed I had gained 4 lbs in a week so I had to stop that ! My sister gained 60 lbs with her pregnancy and got plastered with stretchmarks. She also told me she drank alot of Gatorade with sodium which is not good as salt attaches to water & swells you up. So I been drinking lots of water and trying to eat healthy things and I believe I am on track to gain about 30 lbs.
I am 19 weeks and have gained about 10 pounds. Seems not awful per the online calculators, but I have definitely been indulging the sweet tooth too often and need to work on that. Felt pretty awful during the first tri and basically didn't work out at all except for some walks. Trying to get back on the work out wagon, but I find that I get tired much faster than normal, so the struggle continues. ;-) Ultimately don't care that much about the weight as long as the baby is healthy and growing, but it would be good to have a bit more discipline than I appear to have.
From what I heard, the "best case" scenario for weight gain if you're at a good weight ahead of time - and I take this with a pound of salt - is 2-4 lbs total during first tri, then roughly an average of a pound a week still the end. This still usually means 2 lbs many weeks of late 2nd/early 3rd because weight gain is likely to slow/stop in the last 4-6 weeks. So according to that math...at 21 weeks the best gain would be roughly 11 lbs? So I think @IB113@brytninoelland @Shelby00519your numbers sound really close to dead on perfect to me. Normal total gain is 25-35 lbs, so sounds good to me?
For reference I started healthy, I eat well and work out a lot. I'm 5'4" and at 21+2 I'm up 11 lbs. But all of you are really close to me in gains and timing. I wouldn't stress about it. In fact, relax, because exactly numbers don't matter. Uterus & baby growing on time is really the best/most important indicator.

I started out at a heavier weight than I would have liked, but am up about 5-7 pounds at almost 21weeks. My hope is about a 20 pound weight gain, but like others have said, it's ultimately about how healthy the baby is and if they're growing appropriately.
Im proud of myself this time around. Im now up 11 pounds at 20 weeks, but that is better then my last two pregnancies. I had gained a total of 35 pounds with my first kids and lost it all within the first few weeks, so Im feeling pretty good at this rate. Doctor said I was right on track.
Here are some good charts to reference on weight gain to see how you are doing. The charts are about halfway down the page and based off your pre pregnancy BMI.
I am still down a few pounds. That's ok though. I am a bigger girl and my OB wants my weight to be between 20-25 pounds.... My last US shows baby at 9 Oz and he is 'supposed ' to weight around 7.5 Oz, so he is doing well.
I'm 20 weeks and I've gained about 8 pounds. I started out normal BMI, but lost some weight due to MS. That being said, I've only gained weight in the last month that my medication for MS was adjusted so I actually have an appetite now. Going for a check up on Friday to see what they think about the rapid weight gain in the last month.
Just wanted to pop in and say- woohooo I gained weight! Mad gainz bro- get on board! When men intentionally gain weight, they enjoy themselves. Let's let go of these conflicting messages about how women should never gain weight and focus on mad protein, mad fat, and boosting calorie intake. I'm treating myself like a body builder from now on. Belly bump! Also not gaining much is totally cool too- just focus on stuffing in all the nutrients and you can still be on team mad gainz! Baby builders FTW!!!
I'm 18 weeks and have gained 15. Most of it was first tri for me. I gained 10 almost right away. If I didn't snack constantly I was so nauseous. Glad the scale is slowing down some for now.
@noelietrex Yay baby builders!!! I'm finally in the gaining weight club at 22 weeks and feeling pretty great about it, though it was definitely hard at first to be happy about the scale going up. BUT each pound up is helping to grow a new human, so wahoo!
I'm 22 weeks and gained 11 lbs. I'm 5'10 and started at 135, now up to 146. Definitely trying to not dwell on weight gain too much.. but finding it difficult not to just like last time. My doctor is happy and my husband encourages me to eat what I want so that helps as well. I just feel like munching alllll the time!
@Katekay3@summerfunxo it helps that I am RAVENOUS like a teenage boy. It's actually made me terrified to HAVE a teenage boy one day. We need to start budgeting now!
