Experiencing weight gain already?

Anybody with me?

I've already gained 6 pounds since finding out I'm pregnant. I count calories and I'm eating 1500-2000 calories a day. I'm so upset by this. Same thing happened during my last pregnancy.

I swear if I don't stay at 1200 calories I gain weight, and I have a very active job where I'm standing and walking for 8 hours a day. My trick of coffee is not cutting it anymore so I haven't gone poop in like 3 days. I feel like constipation Is contributing to this.

Anybody want to make me feel better with gif, healthy soup or crockpot recipes, or somebody in the same boat who wants to cry with me?

Re: Experiencing weight gain already?

  • I know I've gained weight but I haven't checked. I really don't even want to know. I have to constantly eat to keep the nausea in check and I'm sick of it, lol.

As for your constipation, cut out all cheese and drink apple juice every day. More fiber!

@MamaBish I'm wondering if a fiber supplement will help or is ok to take during pregnancy. I don't eat a lot of dairy and I drink almond milk. I totally feel you on eating to help morning sickness, then I do and immediately feel sick. I never throw up though, I just stay meserable. Ughhhhh
  • I'm up about 5 pounds, but I'm blaming it on the bloating and the larger chest.... I am usually between a size 6 - 8 and my clothes all still fit, just tighter across my belly (which isn't usually where I put weight on first, its usually in my thighs/rear end... so I'm blaming it on bloat/water retention... I'm not eating any foods that are bad for me (I've found greasy/fatty foods upset my MS) so I've been sticking to lots of small healthy snacks through the day & a sensible dinner of usually chicken, sweet potato and veggies... plus cutting out wine alone should have me losing weight from missing those calories!! So that's the story I'm telling myself and I'm sticking to it !

  • I would guess it's mostly water weight at this point - I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm actually having the opposite problem, though; I've lost a few pounds only because I'm having trouble eating. Nothing looks/sounds good to me so I'm just not eating as much as normal. Same thing happened during my last pregnancy but once I got to the 2nd trimester I started gaining like crazy.

Check with your dr or midwife about the fiber supplement. I just drink apple juice or when it gets really bad, I eat fiber one bars. Works like a charm!

  • I was surprised to see I had also gained 6 lbs. However the dr just called and said my thyroid is slow. So I am picking up a prescription tonight. She said it should help with some added energy as well. So hopefully it will also help not gain so much.
  • You can still drink coffee. Up to 200 mg is considered perfectly fine which is about 1-2 cups depending on brand or how strongly you brew your coffee at home.

You are probably experiencing weight gain due to bloat. Drink tons of water to help keep things moving along and stay hydrated.

Keep in mind, it's the holiday season too so there's always those extra lbs that sneak up on all of us. I wouldn't be too worried about 6 lbs... maybe add a few long walks to your routine if you don't usually work out.

I'm a big believer in Pinterest... just search healthy recipes and boom--- hundreds to check out

  • I am in the same boat. I stepped on the scale this morning and I wasn't happy. My pants are also feeling snug and I am only 6 weeks. I have been eating healthy, but haven't been drinking my 8 glasses of water for the past couple of days. I made sure to drink lots of water today. I hope it helps. I want to cry!
  • I've gained about 5lbs already. For me, I need to eat pretty regularly in order to not get ms and then even when I do eat, the only things that don't make me want to gag are carbs (and not the good ones.) Really hoping it calms down soon so I can get back to eating healthy again! Trying not to worry too much about it either.
  • I am in the same boat. I weighed myself this morning and am up about 7 lbs from pre-pregnancy. Part of it is not being as active as I was before (aka pure laziness). And part of it is me just not caring about eating a little extra here and there. I still eat fairly healthy but there are many more excuses than there were before.

I was hoping only to gain 20-25 lbs with this pregnancy and I have a bad feeling it's not going to happen.

I am up about 3-5lbs depending if I have pooped yet =P

I take colase now and its helped, before I started to take it I didn't poop for 4 days in a row!

  • I am up 4 pounds and can no longer fit in my jeans. I know most is from being bloated.

With DD I was determined to just gain 25 pounds but that quickly went out the window. I worked out and ate mostly healthy with her but still gained 49 pounds! However, 12 days after her birth I was already down 30 pounds (probably water weight) and lost the rest within 3 months so I am not too worried this time around. Just trying to make more healthy choices than non-healthy ones :)
  • I think constipation can be a pretty typical symptom. I second the apple juice remedy. I've been craving juice, and I've been drinking all of my daughter's apple juice which has kept me regular.

I'm down 4 pounds right now. I feel like I snack a lot but I am really struggling with nausea/vomiting :(
  • I wouldn't stress it, water retention is a ton of it. As you know that water weight ends up being about 20lbs after you give birth. some people just gain more at the beginning and a lot less at the end because you have no room.
  • I have lost weight also. Not sure how much though. I'm glad y'all reminded me about the fiber one bars. I been fighting that problem too. This baby won't let me eat unhealthy at the moment. Guess it's a good thing. No fried foods which is odd for me.
  • Yes but I'm pretty sure it's lack of a good poo. I'm still going, just not enough. I have been running 3-7 miles everyday still and I've still gained. Clothes fits fine though, but my boobs are noticeably larger.
  • The nastiest thing I've eaten just so I can go to the bathroom were prunes. They work like a charm though. Ate some and less than a couple hours later.. wa-la. not sure if any of you ladies could stomach prunes.. but they sure do help!

I drank two cups of prune juice and nothing happened! What the f is wrong with me?
  • Omg yessss this whole thread is me! This morning I was literally so freakin huge I swear I'll upload a pic, by huge I mean by comparison to the rest of my body like my stomach was horrible ! I was even sucking it in in that photo!
  • But after pooping I was fine lol. That was a good scare though !
  • I'm up about 6-7 pounds too.. Mainly because when I'm hungry I'm nauseated... Soooooo allll I do is eat!!!! I'm hoping to not gain as much in second tri...
  • @Y0urm0m - next time you drink prune juice, make sure it's warm, not right out of the fridge. Doesn't need to be piping hot like tea or coffee, but I like to heat it up in the microwave for constipated patients and it works much better like that.

  • I have gained weight but it's most definitely because I'm eating everything in sight! Lack of coffee has also slowed down the poo-ing. I have been eating a couple prunes each morning to try and help with them. And lots of water!

  • I made sure to get plenty of water yesterday, I continued with my regular diet. I stepped on the scale this morning and the couple of extra pounds I thought I put on are gone. My pants are also fitting better today. Yay! Lesson learned...make sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day!
  • I'm down weight but pants are getting tight just have started to use my Bella band.

  • I've put in about 5 lbs and I'm 8weeks along today! I noticed this weekend my jeans were starting to be a bit uncomfortable. I'm hoping it's just water weight because I was really distracted from making sure i drank enough this weekend. I'm worried I will be one who gains 60+ pounds during pregnancy. I have not experienced an morning sickness, I'm just hungry all the time!!! I think I eat probably every 3 hours.
  • I think I am only up a couple so far, but I look like I have put on far more! It's horrible
  • I'm 9W1D and I've gained about 3 pounds, I'm not calorie counting but I probably should be.
  • I'm up 5 lbs at 9 weeks. I know a lot of it is bloat - gas and constipation. My upper abdomen is distended and tender, and I'm constantly burping. Gross.

My Ob put in a referral for me to see the nutritionist, but they are slammed, so it could be a while. I really don't want to gain extra weight that will be a bitch to lose postpartum. I'm definitely not eating enough to gain weight, so it's a mystery for now.
  • I gained 10 lbs and I'm already overweight!  I almost cried yesterday when I saw it.  It's bc I am eating the exact opposite of the low carb diet I normally eat. Thinking of protein and cheese is just making me gag though. Now I am eating fruit, cereal, crackers, bread and I am ballooning. This is gonna be a rough 9 months at this rate so I gotta change....
  • I've gained 10 pounds too and I did not need to as I have lots on reserve
It shows up everywhere for me but I hate how it shows in my face the most. Ugh
  • I am up 4-5 pounds, but I know that  napping instead of working out during DS's naps is the culprit.  And thanksgiving.  I got the go ahead from the ob today to resume working out (I had been spotting for a couple weeks and didn't want to aggravate anything by bouncing up and down), so I hope I can stay exactly where I am for the rest of the first tri.

I gained 40 lbs with my first pregnancy and really struggled to lose any of it.  BF did not help (I'm still bitter about this). I have a really hard time restricting food intake, but I am going to try to stay fit this pregnancy for as long as my body will cooperate.

  • I haven't gained any weight, but I'm definitely bigger, which is weird.  Maybe I'm losing muscle at the same time because I've been way too tired to work out lately.  I feel like I'm eating all the time so I won't get nauseous.  I only have 2 pairs of pants that fit me right now and my shirts are starting to get snug in the chest.  I'm hoping some of this is bloat.  I don't know if it's my prenatal (which I take at night) or what, but I wake up every morning with a very urgent need to poop, so I know it's not that.
  • Yes, same here! Before BFP I would usually have a tiny healthy breakfast and a light lunch and was overall slim and healthy. However now I eat ALL DAY to try to curb the nausea. Except... It doesn't really help. I keep thinking it will. It releases endorphins while I'm eating! But I'm really just gaining weight and bloat.

But make sure to eat your Fiber One every morning. It's the best. I know I'm gaining weight but I had a low BMI anyway... One things for sure is that I am NOT constipated. Quite the opposite each morning.. I haven't had a solid stool in weeks but honestly I think it's better than being constipated. Also, eat a lot of fruit. Good luck!
  • I, too, feel more bloated than pregnant. I would disagree with whoever had posted about watching macronutrients such as fat, honestly, it's the carbs and refined sugars that we should be avoiding. Fats from meat/protein sources and veggies like avocados are basic building blocks of the human diet and are good for us especially during pregnancy. My biggest problem though is that carbs are the safest, least-nauseau-inducing foods that I can tolerate so I am living more on toast and noodles more than anything else, so I don't feel like I'm able to eat as healthy and "balanced" as I had always planned on doing during my pregnancy! I am just putting all of my eggs into the "it gets better after the first trimester" basket!!
