Weighed myself this morning and was relieved to have only gained just over 2 pounds so far. I'm 8 weeks today. Thought I had gained a lot more. I am SO bloated today. I'm seriously thinking, how am I going to hide this huge stomach from everyone at work?! Weird how some days I'm way more bloated than others.
I am sure with everyone else I am much more bloated in the evenings. I look about 15w pregnant and am only 6w. I had to pull the pony tail trick on the jeans today, however they were getting snug before. I was strict low carb and used artificial sugar and lost over 25lbs. I didn't mind eating that way and liked the weight loss. After my loss I didn't want to have anything to worry about with this pregnancy so I gave up all artificial sugar......up 5lbs fast! I agree with @JLLinNY Do not skip your healthy fats and protein! Carbs and sugar are your enemy for sure!! I still do not consume many carbs except from fruit/veggies etc. But the sugar has been killer....it really is only in my coffee and sweet tea. I guess that is enough to make the difference though.
Like I said before. I could care less how much weight I gain. As long as I get a healthy baby, I will worry about the weight afterwards.
I am up about 6 pounds already also I have constant nausea that is only alleviated by munching on snacks pretty much all day...that plus the holiday parties and awful bloat is not helping. I might ask my doc for the anti-nausea meds. I work full time and have a toddler...can't spend much time at the gym either. And it gets dark outside at 5pm...lame. My clothes aren't fitting! I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this pregnancy a secret from my co-workers! Hang in there though.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but gaining 3-5 lbs during first trimester is normal and encouraged.
Thank you! Ladies, you are growing a human. Weight gain is normal and going to happen. Carbs are not your enemy. Everyone is going to gain different amounts at different times. This amount of fear of gaining minimal amounts right now is not going to do your psyche any favors over the next 7 months. Relax.

@melodramatic26 amen! I gained just under 30 lbs with #1 but I never felt that "I" gained 30 pounds. I put on weight, sure, but it was blood/fluids, placenta, a baby. And I lost it all very quickly. (thank you, breastfeeding!) I'm a little nervous about #2 for some reason but I'm just going to rely on my body to know what it needs. I think it helps that I don't weigh myself... but away the scale, ladies!
9w3d I didn't gain any weight but I did get thicker so I'm assuming I'm just losing muscle mass atm since I've been sleeping more and exercising less. I need to get back to healthier routine.
I'm 6 weeks and up 4.4 lbs. I have not changed my diet. Not giving into cravings. Ok maybe that Greek salad. Pickles and olives, but nothing to explain that much. I have recently lost 45 lbs and because I am obese the Dr recommended no more than a 10-15 lb gain the whole pregnancy. With my son I gained 65/70 with gestational diabeties and all my gain was 20 weeks on. It was gross. I lost last time during 1st trimester, Gahhhhh I know it's bloat because I have not eaten that much. Water, water, water. Ugh.
I haven't gained weight yet (knock on wood, I know it'll happen soon). But I think it's mostly because I have zero appetite. I'm a foodie, and am the type that has to tell myself to stop eating. If something tastes good, I'll eat it. But part of my M/S has been food aversions. Food just doesn't sound good, doesn't taste good, and doesn't give me the fulfillment it did before. I eat to avoid nausea, and then I eat less to avoid nausea. I have absolutely no cravings, I have to think hard about what sounds tolerable when I have to eat. I know come soon probably everything will sound good and it'll be hard to stop myself. But I think that's why so far I haven't noticed any changes. I haven't noticed too much change in how my clothing fits, I'm wearing my high waisted jeans today, and they feel normal. Almost freaks me out, wish they felt tight so I could say "oh yes something is growing in there." I'm 10 weeks + 1 day.
I am 10w3d I am up 6 lbs, I am in maternity pants...my tight jeans squeeze the belly too much. I don't care too much as long as me and baby are healthy.
Bigger belly means baby is growing, these giant boobs are killer, but hey I'm pregnant! Lol
You won't stay skinny or slim, just be pregnant and suck up all of the attention! !
Ditto on the maintaining weight so far, but losing muscle mass and gaining fat/fluids. Also I put on maternity jeans at 8 weeks. They're loose, but I'm never going back. Maternity jeans FTW!!!!
I feel like my skin is stretchier....and my butt is bigger for sure...I've definitely gained weight. I also read online a few minutes ago that by seven weeks, your uterus doubles in size...so there's that...
Reviving this old post! We've now survived Thanksgiving, and the holiday gift baskets delivered to our offices stacked sky high with cookies and treats (Anyone? No? Just me?)
Im 12w+4d and at my check up yesterday I learned that I've gained 7 pounds! I'm only 5'2, so that's quite a bit on my frame. I researched and first trimester weight gain should be 1 to 5 pounds. Whoops! I can attribute my weight gain to the two most obvious causes: lack of exercise, and eating too much of the wrong things... Like apple pie, cookies, ice cream, and all things delicious in this world. Oh, and carbs. Lots of carbs.
How is everyone doing? If you've gained weight, any plans on reigning it in with the new year? Or just accepting defeat against the inevitable?
I've gained 6.5 pounds and I'm thrilled. This is my second pregnancy and I think I might have been already up 15 pounds my last pregnancy. I'm much more cautious and aware what I'm putting into my body. Keep in mind that some people will automatically gain a few pounds of water weight in the beginning. If you haven't gone out of control and your doctor hasn't given you the evil eye, you're doing just fine.
Had my second prenatal appointment yesterday, and I'd gained 2 pounds. I think I gained between 4 and 6 during my first trimester with DS, so I expected it. Plus, my boobs are HUGE again, so I'm just going to say those couple pounds are in my chest. My clothes are fitting the same, which is good because I am pretty sensitive to any form of pressure on my belly... those belly bands just don't work for me. Once I make the transition to maternity pants, though, they better be full panel! The MS has subsided a lot in the past week - still have waves, but not as debilitating. I'm hoping that it'll continue in that direction and that my energy will return in the next couple weeks so that I can get back in the gym after the new year and plan/cook healthy meals instead of having DH drive through burger joints every other night.
I believe I finally lost most of that 7lb of bloat. Now that I watch my salt and carbs intake I'm up about 2-4lbs given the day. Holy moly my body loves to retain everything during pregnancy.
I've put on 12 lbs since I found out I was preggo on 10/31. I attribute that mostly to simple carbs, having to eat them frequently, and drinking ginger ale (i can't seem to stomach water). I am trying not to worry about it and mainly trying to get a decent amount of exercise. It's tough because hubby has been working out a lot and losing weight
I have gained 9 pounds in my first few weeks this is my second pregnancy. In fact weight gain was one of my earliest symptoms. I was quite upset since I gained so slowly with my first and managed to shed most of the baby weight after pregnancy. I am definitely way bigger with baby number 2...
And it doesn't help that all my colleagues are making remarks about how quickly my belly is growing.... grrrr
I'm 10 weeks and have gained maybe 8 pounds? Way worse than last time. Eating is the only thing that interrupts the constant nausea and I don't want anything healthy. Haha. Hoping when ms calms down I can keep myself in check second tri since I am starting heavier than my last pregnancy already...
10 weeks in, I am down 5 pounds. However I lost 20 pounds with my first, and I was up 20 with my 2nd.
So hopefully this pregnancy will be more 'normal'.
went to dr today and at 13 weeks i weigh 2 pounds less than when i found out i was pregnant ... the ultrasound showed that he is doing great, actually 4 days bigger than his edd ... the little leech!
i think i've thrown normal out of the window with this kid ...
I gained 9 pounds. But I was very underweight. 5'7 102 pounds. I gain for my pregnancies then it just falls off within a few weeks..I'm back to nothing.
For those of you experiencing high early weight gain, have your thyroid checked. I experienced that with my first child, and turns out my thyroid had basically stopped functioning. It's common.
I didn't weigh myself at all during the holidays... MS was still in full-swing, so I just gave myself free reign to eat whatever sounded appetizing. Now that my nausea is gone for the most part and I'm starting to get some energy back, I've been back on plan. Weighed myself this morning and weigh the same as at my last prenatal appointment - up 2 pounds since getting pregnant, confirming that any bump/blump I had over the holidays was just Christmas cookies.
I'm not sure about my current weight as I don't have a scale (I weigh myself too often when I have one in the home so find it healthier for me not to have one) but at my last appointment a couple of weeks ago I had lost a few pounds. I already have a bit of extra weight on me so it's not overly concerning but I hope at my next appointment I've put on at least a couple.
My nausea is getting a bit better and my appetite is starting to come back. I've actually been able to eat a decent, healthy dinner the last 2 nights, so hopefully my weight gain gets on track. I do look like I've gained 5-10 lbs with my bloated belly.
Gained 6 pounds by week 10. At my appointment yesterday (14w4d) I had only gained one more pound since then. You're growing a human. Weight gain happens, I'm trying not to care.
Ladies keep in mind that it's typical for the average person to gain 7 pounds during the holidays. So what you think may be pregnancy related may just be those damn snowman cookies.

lol- so much this. My rigid workout plan took a nose dive right around when the holidays started (Halloween) and never really rebounded and then the cookies.... all the cookies
I was down 2lbs from my starting weight at my 14w3d appt Monday (also don't own a scale). The midwife said it's time to get serious about gaining and that I need to at least be back to starting by the time my 18week appt happens. I hate this topic as weight is such an ugly, loaded subject for me. I feel like if I gain too much, I'm failing and if I can't gain fast enough I'm failing. If it's right on track well I should be thinking about my post-partum body. There's just no winning.
The midwife also said some women will gain 50lbs no matter what they do and some will struggle to gain 15lbs no matter what they do, so try to be gentle with yourself either way. Easier said than done...
About 12 weeks in, and up about 10 lbs. so far. I'm trying not to stress too much about it, but I know that much of it would've been called "holiday weight gain" as @stephweinstein said.
To be honest, I kind of knew I was going to gain a lot when I finally got pregnant. Weight is something I've struggled with since I was a teenager and I can pinpoint particular years of photos and memories because of my weight. Doing my best to eat nutritious food but also eating a lot of cookies and treats I wouldn't normally indulge in.
