  • @kitteh81 my last doctor in Texas who never really liked to volunteer extra information has from the beginning been super intense about the fact that the baby is big. Every time we went be would do an ultrasound, and every time he would just continually remark at the size of the baby. That doctor was concerned about whether or not my hips would widen enough for the baby to deliver safely. He's healthy, but apparently rather large. I'm 5'1" and I weigh 120 soaking wet. So I guess we'll see what my new OB thinks tomorrow.

@SarahFoley725 that's good to hear, that it's not just me. Hopefully just a few early growth spurts!

The biggest obstacle with my parents visit is that my mom is only off work the 18th-28th. So that's the window. Not sure if I should have them come later, or if they'll come on the 18th and we'll just do a whole lot of walking and see if he's ready to go or not? Definitely not gonna ask to be induced just for the sake of convenience. Oh well!

In other news, Starbucks with the whole family tonight, I can't wait!!! Half-caf peppermint mocha here I come...

Also does everyone's water break? I read that IF your water breaks you should go in to avoid the risk of infection. So does that mean that it may not break until you're in the hospital already or what

I've always been in active labor and had to have my doctor break my water. Every single time. Everyone I know that has more than one child has had theirs break on its own at least once so they're always surprised that mine hasn't. I will say that even with this being my last I still don't want it to because honestly, I'd probably freak the heck out lol.
I wonder if you would have a baby born in the caul if the doctor didn't break your water.

With both of mine labor started with my water breaking. I'm actually surprised that they didn't pressure me with my first because she was born over 28 hours after my water first broke.
  • @SarahFoley725 big hugs, girlfriend! You'll be ok :)

We just assembled the crib and diaper caddy and put the furniture in what will be baby's room. It's beginning to take shape. So exciting!!!!!

  • Hang in there @SarahFoley725!

My water broke on its own while I was out for a walk with my husband and I immediately went from having no noticeable contractions at all to the most painful and constant constructions imaginable. Within 45 minutes I was at the hospital and 5 cm dialated and 100% effaced. I hope it's the same way this time because even though it was super intense I progressed really quickly.

I'm just barely 5'2" and 115lbs, and most of that comes from my hulking thighs (gymnast, dancer, runner=hulking muscle thighs) I had no problem birthing an over 9.5lb baby.
  • @2goofykids @kitteh81 I'm 5'0 so I frequently worry about baby running out of room and breaking my ribs or something. I've never been too concerned about actually birthing her though. I *think* my hips may be widening some. Occasionally they'll have a dull ache to them that I can only really describe as a post stretch type feeling.

My doctor hasn't expressed any concerns but if she had I'd definitely be panicking too! When she said baby was measuring big it scared me, but it's not that uncommon I don't think!
  • @cmerribury mine progressed fast like that too after the water broke (and things got really unmanageable for me).  I got the epidural, and I was the textbook epidural = total labor killer.  So then an hour later they had to put me on pitocin which worked.  I will say I shook the entire time because of the epidural.  I've heard that can be a side effect, but I wonder if it's more from displaced adrenaline due to contractions.

I'm stupidly excited right now.  I found the little toboggan/sled I wanted to get DS for Christmas at Target, but it's not currently available.  I was super bummed until I realized Toys R Us had it for even cheaper.  Plus, I remembered I had a gift card left from some of last Christmas's returns (my crazy MIL...).  So I got that plus a fishing game for less than half the total cost, with free shipping!  And to top it off, I also found a gift card my mother gave me last Christmas for Dillards (I thought I'd totally thrown it out with the card on accident).  So I'm going to use it to get DH some shoes, since one of the foster dogs chewed on his favorite pair... :)
  • @smushi I got the epidural as well and it stalled things for me, big time. I progressed, but much slower. They were happy to let me take my time and several hours later I was ready to push. I remember feeling antsy, not shakey, but I think that was a by product of excitement and nerves more than anything. My biggest issue with labor was that I almost bled out. By the end of pushing I was fainting between contractions. I had pitocin after to stop the bleeding, but not before/during. I had partial placenta previa, they told me it had moved, but I guess it didn't really move enough.

Awesome finds on the Christmas gifts!!

  • The epidural can stall labor?! What?!
  • Yeah, @SarahFoley725 it can slow things down since your body can finally relax. For other people it has the opposite effect. My cousin was stalled for hours and after epidural was able to progress quickly. She has anxiety issues, though, so it an extreme case.

So, (very sarcastically) I'd like to say thanks a bunch for that! I honestly had no idea what "a baby born in the caul" was so yes, I googled it. First thing that comes up is, of course, pictures. Nope, nope, nope. I'll happily beg my doctor to break my water lol. :)

  • Is never considered skipping the epidural until hearing that butttttt I feel like the pain would be worse than waiting a little bit longer.
  • So tired today. Ds is in some sort of weird non sleeping well phase and was literally up from 1230-4 last night. He then napped from 4-6 tonight and I am only just getting him to bed now (11pm). Going to ask dh to switch over the laundry and I need to go to bed. Good news is we got our tree up and decorated and I had enough energy to make some gingerbread cookies, so I'm pretty happy with my productivity
  • I went a long time without the epidural as I just wasn't progressing. The epidural was heavenly, and I honestly think I would rather go 4 hours with epi waiting for labor to progress than 2 hours without.
  • lol @kynbar5 apparently it's very good luck to have a baby born in the caul!

  • @kitteh81 wow! 9.5 pounds. Thats a big one. I'm sure I'll feel better after I talk to my new doctor tomorrow, probably just some early growth spurts. I would much rather deliver the baby on my own than with an induction or a c-section, just a whole lot of what-ifs! Seriously though, 9.5 pounds, that is quite an accomplishment!

  • @kynbar5 I love Elf!! Yes 10 more days until Christmas. I am so excited. We went shopping yesterday and finished all of our Christmas shopping and now just have to wrap.

Littlest babe is on day 3 of a 102 fever. We have been alternating Tylenol and Motrin and pushing fluids but it has been too long so off to the doctor we go. Hopefully they can give him something to help even if it is the flu the meds to shorten the duration.

I also have an appointment today! Hoping to get the rest of our shopping done this week - we are about halfway there. Everything bought has been wrapped already so it is nice to have a head start on that. Usually I am rushing to get things wrapped right before we travel wherever we are going for the holidays.

  • I went in for a scheduled induction (for a dumb reason imho) with DD so I have no real "going into labor" experience. I'm seriously really looking forward to having a real, natural start to labor. And hopefully go med free this time too.

This is me too. Although I did go from 4-10 and ready to push in an hour and a half last time so I am super nervous I will have a baby in the car.
  • I've had a rough couple days.  Between yesterday with my husband jumping down my throat about how "lazy" I am because he doesn't see me doing things around the house, and this morning my child and I got into it over stupid clothes and she throws her "daddy's house is better" fit- I'm ready to throw in the towel.

  • Would someone please answer this for me - how can I be carrying so freakin' low and yet wake up with a foot jammed in my ribs?!?  AND IT HASN'T MOVED!!!  This kid is going to be bald AND tall!!

My oldest asked to go to grandma's overnight last night so I had a date with just DH and DS2 - it's amazing how different your kids can be when they are without their siblings.  He is so precious - his little tiny voice is just the cutest thing in the world.  And he loves to snuggle.  Like last night totally fell in love with my youngest all over again - my heart is full, people!

Tonight we're doing a progressive dinner with our Bible study and last stop is at our house for dessert.  I totally made a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake for dessert and it's going to be phenomenal.  Can't wait to cut that baby open!

Hope you ladies have a wonderful day.

  • I'm super anal about Christmas wrappings, each year I buy 2-3 coordinating papers, ribbons, and tags, and everything matches. It's the designer/art major in me, I think...but it just looks so pretty under the tree that way! :) We are wrapping one gift in unique paper so that it's "from Santa" but the rest will be all pretty and coordinated. I usually love doing this, but I wrapped two to bring to family last weekend and my butt was asleep in 3 minutes. It's going to be a long weekend of wrapping and butt numbness!

  • I love wrapping even though I'm terrible at it. Haha. I need to arrange something with DH to get the girls out of the house this week, so I can have a marathon wrapping session.

I went grocery shopping this morning and it totally killed me. It's 11:12 and I'm seriously considering feeding DD lunch now and having her down for her nap by noon (instead of her usual 1:00) so I can catch a nap too. It would probably just backfire and she wouldn't be tired enough to sleep . . .
