Nursery - Fortnightly Updates?

Would any ladies be interested in sharing their nursery pics whilst it's still a work in progress up to the end-result?

DH and his friend is clearing ours out today so I am super excited to start and wouldn't mind seeing everyone else's progress!

Maybe we can also ask/give tips/share specials etc.

I was thinking doing a weekly/fortnightly thread to share updates.

Let me know if anyone is keen. :)

Re: Nursery - Fortnightly Updates?

  • Oh I would love to but we are a bit away from nursery set up. The room is still cluttered, DH really doesn't want to put his books in the cold damp basement but hasn't suggested another place for them yet. I really need to light a fire under his ass about it. In a month or so I would definitely participate in some deco chat if a fortnightly thread was going on. Otherwise I'll just share my ideas till the time for action comes

  • I only have an open room now! Hoping something like this will light a fire under me and keep me motivated.

I would personally love hearing ideas. And will need them especially if it's a girl. I have so many boy room ideas and zero for girls.
  • Oh also we got the crib bedding. We don't have the crib yet though haha but here's a pic of what the bedding looks like
  • @yogahh did not mean to step in your toes - I know about your post and I was curious how everyone progressed from there - hope you don't mind! :)

I think grey and white is the colours of the season!

I bought this cot and compactum - will be delivered from Cape Town next week!

Don't mind at all! I love these posts... Gives me more inspiration :)

  • I love this idea, but have nothing to post yet! We are moving at the end of January. THEN I can start going crazy in the nursery!
  • We have just begun! Painting is in progress, and once we get our AS on the 21st then I'll order the crib and dresser we picked out. The color thankfully dried more neutral gray. With the slopes ceiling, our challenge will be getting the most out of that closet.
  • Would love to participate! We bought the crib/dresser/nighttable a few weeks ago (see pictures) and cleared the room. However, the room is this awful shade of pepto bismol pink from the past owners- we knew this was going to eventually become the baby's room, so we never bothered painting it. I'll share a picture of that awful color later. We'll most likely work more on the nursery in the new year- but now that we just found out we're having a boy, I'm fully into nursery planning!

My childhood bedroom had sloped ceilings like this, and yes, the closets are not fun! Especially as a fashion orieneted teenage girl!

  • Target released some le petit prince (the little prince) merchandise so we are going with that for a boy or girl. So lots of stars, moons, foxes and sheep. Maybe a rose somewhere as well. The spare room is already pink so we might have to change that. But otherwise we will use the furniture we already have from DS.
  • @MrsKtobe09 not overdoing it - Your idea sounds amazing! I love the idea of using stuff that's been kept since your childhood, super special :)

I am super excited to start decorating the nursery! My husband and I just recently cleared out the room and cleaned the carpets, so we can start decorating for our first little bundle.

  • The baby's room is currently our guest room. We have guest staying in the near future so I can't start on the bedroom yet. We need to paint the walls and add new flooring. I know I want white furniture and gold accents. I haven't decided on colors yet... I was originally going with a grey blue theme when I thought I was having a boy. I will officially know the sex on the 28th. I attached some nursey ideas I liked below. I would like the room to be a bit gender neutral so we can reuse items on future kids. image
  • I love everyone's ideas! The grays are super cute. Knottie -- I love that the crib you picked out has storage underneath.. We haven't made any progress on the room yet -- it's been our overflow room because we figured it would be the nursery eventually. Here are some of the things I liked.

  • I love to see what everyone is coming up with! DIY projects, making use of hand me downs or buying everything brand new!

Our "nursery" was a mess! This room was my season decor storage, so from sceletons for Halloween, pumpkins for thanksgiving and 12ft and 9ft christmas tree - Everything was in there! We started decluttering by each and every holiday so since our Christmas stuff is finally up, the room is a blank canvas!!! We already have a crib ( my husband already has teenage sons so it's kind of sentimental to me having all kids sleeping in the same crib) bought a dresser from ikea and some storage bins from home goods. That's it for now. Everything will be white/taupe. Can't wait to start our wainscoting project and if it's a girl, add a little chandelier! The attached pic is what I have in mind with taupe painted walls on top.
  • Love this idea. I'll post pictures later in the week when I get more done than I had for the TTT post :-)
  • Great idea! I would love to see everyone's ideas and progress. DS will be sharing a room with DD( she'll be 1 yr on Christmas Eve). Of course he'll be spending a few months in our bedroom using a cradle. I definitely want to get started on the room asap though. I feel like it will be a challenge making a room for both a boy and girl. Good thing we just moved into our new house in July and haven't had a chance to paint. The room is large and has two tall/ wide windows in the center, it will be a great way to separate the room at bit.
  • @cgg0707 I kept some old school superhero posters that I thought I could frame for a boy to go with my grey and white - to break the colour! So cool you are doing it for a co-ed room!
  • So far we haven't made much progress in the nursery front except for buying the crib. It's a beautiful Scandinavian designed one, I've been lusting after it for years
  • We've got a lot of rearranging to do, as our son is still in the crib.  We need to basically switch out the twin bed in the guest room with his baby furniture.  The guest room will become the nursery, and big brother gets his "big boy" room!  Hoping to recruit my BIL and SIL to help with furniture moving when they're here over Christmas--of course, that means I'm not sure where everyone will sleep, since FIL is usually in the guest room at Christmas.  We do have a pull-out in the living room, so someone will probably just have to sleep there.

I want to go with a woodland theme.  We didn't decorate our son's nursery right away, because we moved when he was 4 months old.  Now his room is the nicest one in the house, LOL!  But I'm looking forward to this little one having a nice space from the get-go.

  • I don't think we are doing anything this time. Last time we did one purple wall and I made curtains out of purple fabric that had butterflies on it. That was about a themed we got. Personal opinion, I'm not a huge fan of themed nurseries as they out grow them so fast. But since we are hoping to be moving, we aren't doing anything really. The house we are hoping to get needs a lot of work so making a nursery look cute is not high priority.

I do have a suggestion of if you do a theme, don't go over board with it. Use it for the accents, not the main stuff. It makes it so much easier to make the room grow with the child.

Agreed.  Our son's room is dinosaur themed, technically, but it's pretty much limited to wall decals and a rug.  Some of his sheets are from a dino sheet set, others aren't.  And now his bed is filled with all his "friends" i.e. the stuffed animals he insists on having in there at night.  So yeah, dinosaurs, but also a more general theme of "toddler" lol!  :)

We're painting the doors in a fun way- but the rest will be stuff that is easily removed. Mostly because the doors are super easy to repaint :-)
  • @bookelf221 I LOVE THIS!!!!! I totally want to do Star Wars theme if we have a boy. DH and I are big nerds too :) Harry Potter theme is amazing though. There's definitely going to be a HP themed birthday party at some stage for our little one!
  • We decided on a zoo animal theme with some UofM worked in since we are both huge sports fans. I have all the furniture but some of the pieces need to be sanded and refinished and we need to put the crib together, which we will do right after the holiday. I guess we are ahead of the game but I'm too anxious to wait longer. I'll post pics in a few weeks when it's all done
  • So many nerds I love it!
  • Well we found out yesterday we are having a boy!! His room is already painted a nice gray, I'll post a pic later, I want yalls opinion on if it's too dark... It's been a nice color for a spare bedroom, but room only has one window so it's a little dark at times. The other colors we want to add are green and blue with a mild star wars theme. :-)
  • Our furniture arrived today! So the room will start to take shape after DH and his friend have assembled it! It weights about 100kg so I can't help.

DH decided, since it's a boy, to do vintage car prints - so I will change our idea slightly to incorporate this new one as well.

Should we keep this thread active or do one each month with new pics? Opinions please :)
