Erik Clel. Clel is a family name, but for Erik I think we will have to go back to Erik the Red to find it in the family. No, no cool story behind it, we just both liked it.

I actually haven't shared our baby names with anyone yet! We have a lot of friends and family members who are will be having babies around the same time as us and name stealing seems to be a real thing in our circle of friends. I feel same enough to share them here We are team green so we have names picked out for both genders. Lola Finley for a girl (Finley is my grandmother's maiden name) and Tripp Douglas for a boy (Douglas is both my DH and FIL's middle name).

Since DH and I have had all of our potential baby names picked out since 2012, I've been really paranoid about name stealing... Everyone has know all 3 full boy and all 3 full girl names for years... I don't mind as much if a friend steals it, but I'm really worried that a family member might steal them... Especially our #1 girl name, since we are having our second boy this April. DH and I really want Lily to be ours, and I'm terrified my BIL and SIL might steal it so that "someone can use the name."

I totally understand! I've fallen in love with both our girl and our boy names. Not sure what our LO is yet but I would be devastated if someone took either of the names..almost wish I was having twins so I could hurry up and use them both haha

DH and I are most attached to DS1's name (Aaron Kane) and our #1 girl name (Lily Ellen). If someone stole our #2 or #3 boy or girl names, I don't think we would mind... But we've been dreaming of our little Lily since we talked about TTCing. DH has called every baby Lily until we either lost the baby or we found out the baby was actually a boy. DH really wants his little girl... So much so that he started talking about TTC right after DS2's anatomy ultrasound!
We are struggling with names for our little man. So far the only two boy names my husband hasn't totally taken off of the table are Owen and Collin so maybe a combo of those two? He has literally vetoed every other name I have suggested which at this point has probably been over 50! How many names do I have to be okay with here?!
Would Crane be a completely weird middle name for Reid, or more cool and unique? Some info:
- the very first apartment we lived in together was off Crane Ave.
- we saw a crane (OK, maybe a heron) on the beach the morning after we got married and we saw them all the time at the park we hiked at when we first started dating
- we're into birds in general
- we're fine with a one syllable FN & MN since our last name is incredibly long (and the initials would be fine)
- I'm the only not-tall person in both of our entire families, so he could end up being tall and leggy like his dad, which would fit since it's originally a surname for tall dudes
I'm super into it. It feels like "IT" for me, but it's definitely way further out there than anything else we've talked about before, which is DH's #1 concern. We typically like very traditional names like Charles, William, etc. We're 100% set on the first name being Reid.
Thoughts??
I like it. It means something to you. I think I you want to go for unique and out there, it's ok to do it with middle names versus first names.

NMS but I think the meaning it has to you would justify the uniqueness and I think you can get away with it being the mn. It's not like his first name would be flamingo.

Exactly this. Lots more leeway in a mn IMO. I'd side eye it as a first name but not a middle.

I might side-eye it but when I heard the meaning I'd feel like a jerk, because that's pretty sweet.
My husband and I chose the name Liam Michael before we were engaged. I'm afraid Liam is too popular though. Thoughts?
I'd rather give my child a *real* name that just happens to be semi-popular than a made-up/hodgepodge name that is unique. FWIW, at my son's daycare I've maybe met one Liam, and of my many friends/acquaintances with kiddos, there are no Liam's at all. It's a perfectly fine name. If you like it, go for it!
Names are hard.. this is one of the first suggestions I've come up with for a girl that DH actually kind of likes, but I'm not sure what spelling is better. Thoughts anyone? Marley or Marleigh?
@kbugusky Liam is super cute and super popular nationally. Do you have any way of getting a sense of how popular the name is in your area/social circle?? The SS website does breakdown name popularity by state if you think that might help.
@BrittnyS10 I vote Marley (cute!). Every time I see one of the "X-leigh" spellings I always hesitate and ask myself, "X-lay" or X-lee"??
Our little guy is Beau. Possibly Beau Everett (DH's grandfathers name) but I'm still convinced he needs two middle names!
I absolutely love the name Beau. Maybe because I'm from the South but I've been trying to incorporate Beau into a girl's name (Isabeau) but SO isn't interested.

Beau is pretty but it's a masculine term in French so it would be hard I imagine to incorporate it in a girls name. Isabelle would be the feminine form

I also like the name Nikolai (and the nickname Niko) it works with our German last name but possibly sounds a little too exotic all put together. So that one will likely not happen.
I always liked the name Nikola, but we never considered using it as a name.
Loving all the name ideas girls. Unfortunately hubby and I cannot figure out a name we can agree on. We have plenty time to pick but you would think after three babies already that we could get it together....keep the names coming!!
