What are you going to name your little one?

Re: What are you going to name your little one?

  • DH and I had a hard time picking boys names that we both agreed on. We finally decided on Alexander Michael (DH first name).

  • We're naming our baby girl Emma. Having a hard time thinking of middle names to go with it since our last name is pretty short. I'd love any ideas ;)

My husband and I chose the name Liam Michael before we were engaged. I'm afraid Liam is too popular though. Thoughts?
I'd rather give my child a *real* name that just happens to be semi-popular than a made-up/hodgepodge name that is unique. FWIW, at my son's daycare I've maybe met one Liam, and of my many friends/acquaintances with kiddos, there are no Liam's at all. It's a perfectly fine name. If you like it, go for it!
Liam isn't "semi-popular"... it was the #2 most popular boys' name in 2014. I LOVE the name too but would probably avoid anything top 20, much less top 5. However, if you really love it, I wouldn't let that be the only thing stopping you. I actually love the name Liam, too, but it also doesn't sound good with our last name.

    I only gauge popularity by how it's reflected locally/in the media. Had you not said that, I literally never would have known that it was a really popular name nationwide. So, semi-popular applies in my personal context. (;

True, I'm sure some of it is regional... but some of it is also that the kids named Liam are all still babies/toddlers and aren't school-aged yet... there will be a boom soon!

  • Miranda :)
Love you choice! But I'm biased because that's my name!!
  • Jordan Matthew :) I let my husband choose the name and we both love it for our little guy!

  • We have decided on Jaxson Liam. We haven't decided on the spelling of Jaxson, still may change it to Jaxon.

Jaxon is better than Jaxson, but Jackson would be SO much better.

This. Unless you are naming your son after a video game character...
  • We have it narrowed down to 2
    Adalynn Marie
    Or
    Riley Marie

Great names! I was thinking I liked Adalynn better at first but Riley for a girls name is adorable!!
  • I know a girl named Rilee. I always thought it was a cute name.
  • It's the hardest decision ever! I really like both

I've got a soft spot for Riley as a girl's name. Both are cute tho! <3

    Loving Riley Marie!
  • So happy to see someone else using Raelynn! Our daughter will be Raelynn Elizabeth and I seen another mom using Raelynn for a mn
  • Thanks, we thought it just sounded beautiful!
  • Baby girls name will be Leilani Elizabeth Marie❤
  • We are naming our sweet one Colton Alan (middle name the same as DH). Our first is Weston Kurt (middle name after DH's first name).
  • We're naming our little girl Sophia Teresa. Teresa is my moms name and I love the middle name being given after someone in the family. My DH and his brother are named after their grandfathers and I loved the idea.

We were on the fence with Sophia being its now so popular. I always said I didn't want her to be known as Sophia B because there were a bunch of girls with the same name. We had agreed on the name years ago before we were even engaged and it wasn't that popular. After going through names, I always came back to it. I'm a teacher and there are only a couple of Sophia's in the school, all in different grades.

I had no idea how stressful picking a name would be, good luck to all of you still deciding!
  • Not 100% but we are leaning towards Myra - my grandmother was Zelmira - and DH is all about Zelmira - LOL but i just don't know if I can do that!  Mira - I'm afraid sounds like Me-ra - so I think I'd like to go with Myra (Mi-ra)... not sure on a middle name.
This is so difficult!  We were team green w/ DD1 and had a short list going in.  Went through the list and she stopped crying at Elise so we said ok done!  This time we know she's a girl and I feel like it's making it way more difficult!

We have finally decided! Thomas Frederick (my maiden name which we both have as a middle now) (last name). It's long, but our last names are both relatively short, so I think it works. Boy is this a stressful decision- we keep saying stuff like THIS WILL BE ON HIS TAXES FOR LIKE EIGHTY YEARS

No first name yet but I like Cole for a middle name. BF is hasn't settled on anything. He just wants our boy to have a unique name but I'm not a fan of to unique. His top choices are Bilal and Memphis. I'm not feeling either.

We loved Cole for a middle name too! So I let my husband decide on the first name. He came home one day from work with 3 names. I realized everything I came up with he hated so I just waited for him to find something I liked. We are naming our little boy Jaxton Cole.
  • @Kristenlaurenn Don't worry about name popularity, nobody in the world will be YOUR Sophia. My sister and I grew up with popular names, and it didn't impact us in the slightest or make us feel like we were any less "special snowflakes". Likewise, my husband and I chose a popular name for our LO, and if there are others in his class... So? All the more reason for him to get an awesome, unique nickname personalized just for him.
  • @Kristenlaurenn DH and I chose a name based on the only nn we could agree on, which is Ellie. At the end of the day, I agree with @Missingchampagne - she's OUR Ellie, and her full name will allow for other nn possibilities if she doesn't like Ellie later on. Plus, it just isn't worth it to argue over names for months just because a name is "too popular." Statistically, even the most popular names now are WAY less common than the Sarah's, Jessica's, and Allie's of our generation. Plus, Sophia is timeless.

I think we're finally 100% decided after a billion discussions about middle names. Who knew the MIDDLE name would be the hard part?!

    Reid Nolan!

    Cute :)

  • Reid is a name I hadn't run into until this pregnancy. Is it pronounced like Reed or Ride??? I've studied German pronunciation more recently than English and think maybe that is making me read it Ride when Reed seems more likely...
  • This is the first baby we decided to find out the gender of before being born (and she's baby #4)! We had a boys name set in stone, but were surprised to learn we are having our 3rd girl! Nothing really stuck out to us until my husband and I were on an adult only trip to Disney World...her name will be Isabelle and we plan to call her Belle.

Now we just have to decide on a middle name. We have decided to keep her name a surprise from our friends and family, so I can't really ask them for opinions. Our options are...

    Isabelle Elizabeth

    Isabelle Elise

Isabelle Edward (my personal favorite bc it was my recently deceased grandfather's name and my dad's middle name, but my husband refuses bc it's not a girls name!)

Good thing we still have three months to decide! :)

I love Isabelle Elise, but understand your draw towards Edward. What about something like Edith or Eadie for a feminine version of Edward? Or what was your grandpa's middle name?

  • @NMort -- we are also going with the name Isabelle, great choice!  I actually thought about Isabelle Elizabeth (after a grandmother) but my research found that Isabelle was a form of the name Elizabeth so we are not going that route-- something for you to consider. https://www.behindthename.com/name/isabel

I like Isabelle Elise also like Isabelle Elaine.

  • We chose Keira Lynn but haven't agreed on spelling yet: Keira or Kira?

I vote Keira. Kira reads like Ky-Ra to me, unless that's what you're going for.

  • We were stuck on Effy for our girls name, but i'm worried it sounds too much like the nickname already that I wouldn't know what to use as a nickname for her. And no, there are no full name versions I like to use effy as the nn instead.

We also like Teagan, and I would like to use my dads name "dale" as the middle name maybe spelled dayle but the hubby thinks it doesnt work.

I knew an Effie when I was a kid but I can't for the life of me tell you what  her real name was....hmm....
