Well, bub has his first cold. I saw it coming considering as soon as I went back to work (I work in a Pediatric Clinic), I got sick. I hate seeing him like this. I can tell he's uncomfortable, he has a stuffy nose and no matter how many boogers I suck out, they keep coming. He's not his happy baby self and I can't wait till this is over!

Does anyone have any tips and tricks to help get LO through this cold? We don't have a humidifier, I should probably invest in one, I'm sure that would help.

My LO has been like this on and off for a couple weeks now. We use a humidifier and also saline drops in the nose. They are like $2 so not too bad. That's what my pediatrician said to do. So if you don't want to buy the humidifier yet I would recommend the drops!

  • So Saturday night LO projectile spit up in her bassinet at night. Found her soaked when I went to feed her. Sunday, she did it again much later in the day on her daddy (at least 3-4 feeds between these with no to normal spit up). Then this morning, Monday, she has a smelly explosive diaper that's a little green (not bad, more normal than weird colored). I know that sometimes means hind/fore milk issue, but it wasn't frothy, it was more seedy.

Then I get a call from daycare that she has a rash. I show up and it's bad. I take her to the doctor & she says the rash is an allergic reaction since it was the worst where there was no clothing, face arms legs...
I mentioned bowel/spit up issues but she seemed to think the bowel was my food yesterday (EBF on weekends, mixed formula and BF at daycare). But she's had 2 more smelly greenish diapers since we've got home & very little pee diapers... Momma is freaking out here. Rash is gone, but now I'm worried about her bowels. She seems okay, just tired.

    Any ideas?!
  • I called the emergency doc when LO was projectile vomiting a few times over the course of 2 days. But she said unless it was happening all day, she had a fever, or she was lethargic that it was probably a little bug it has bubble. She got over it in a couple days. However, they did say to make sure she was hydrated, or I had to go to the ER asap to get her hooked up to an iv. She said I would notice dehydration via no to little per diapers, her soft spot would be sunken in ( not flush to the surface of her head), lack of tears when crying, etc. So being that you haven't seen many wet diapers, I would call your ped again.

    & it's happened. LO's 1st stomach bug.

LO was projectile spitting up a few times this weekend & Monday had loose, smelly stools. Then a severe rash. Doctor said it was allergic reaction, but she kept having loose stools. Daycare called today & said it's going around. Went and got her & we're rocking & nursing all day. She seemed a little in pain, maybe cramps, called nurse line about giving Tylenol for it. Only thing to do is nurse/feed & watch for dehydration & diaper rash.
  • & she can't go back to daycare until Thursday-thank goodness for saving my sick days while preggo.

I think LO could have pink eye.

Yesterday when she woke she had gunk all over one eye and I had to use a warm cloth to clean up her lashes. The white of her right eye didn't look quite as bright, but she rubbed it a few times so I figured that was why.

This morning both eyes had gunk, not horribly (not closed shut or anything) but now her left eye is VERY pink. Her cheeks are also bright pink this Morning. Our peds have a morning walk in hour so I may try to pop in to see if we need drops or anything before the weekend. No day care for this baby today it seems...
  • @swaugh14 oh no! Hope it resolves quickly!

  • @swaugh14 same with LO this AM. And she had green snot and phlegm. Why, oh why is daycare such a cesspool?
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • LO was soooo constipated. Didn't go for 2.5 days. He screamed bloody murder for 45 minutes last night. Bath didn't help, rectal thermometer didn't work, glycerin suppository didn't work. He finished eating at 8:30 and fell asleep, then I realized he hadn't had a wet diaper in 4 hours. Called the ER charge nurse who said to let him rest and if he was still dry in a few hours to come in or go to pedi this morning. He woke up at 3:20, which he usually wakes between 3 and 4 to eat. He was super wet. Ate, went back down and slept till 7. DH called around 10 and said he finally had a pasty poop.
  • LO is getting her first tooth as of 15 weeks (last weekend). My all-star sleeper/napper/ non-cryer is gone and this new baby has taken up space in her room. And if there's any validity to the wonder weeks, we're knee-deep in leap #4. and I'm back to work as of today. Baby symptoms and sad mommy symptoms are running rampant!

Sounds like she has a bug to me, especially if she's in daycare

  • Update: No pink eye! It's related to her cold. Dr said that sometimes congestion can work itself up and out through the tear ducts. So that was the morning gunk and redness! He said if you're cleaning goop really often (like every 30 min) it could be pink eye.

So glad he's feeling better!! You must have been so worried. Big hugs to you both!

Yes! The cold (snot) can come out through the eye... Just like it comes out the nose! Gross huh, most likely she will have this symptom a lot when she's sick since she did... It's weird but not worrisome :)
  • I mentioned in the diaper thread that LO had what looked like a rash on his inner leg and I was worried it was from our change to Huggies. Asked the dr about it and she said it looked like a bit of a yeast infection and prescribed a cream. I haven't had a chance to go to the pharmacy to get it yet but I'm hoping it helps. DD had the same thing when she was little where she had a yeast infection and it showed up looking like diaper rash and the dr said yeast infections in babies show up on the outside. I didn't know if this was common in boys too, has anyone else had this?
  • @LaurenAnn0405 LO sometimes has an area of redness in one of his thigh rolls, I've just been assuming its because it doesn't get any air in there. Anytime I use wipes on him now I clean in there, then hold his leg and kinda pull the fold open so that it gets air and dries. Sometimes I will put some of his diaper rash cream in there. Seems to help

I know I think someone has mentioned this before, but what do you think they dream about when they have a bad dream? LO was whimpering in his sleep, then started full out crying, but still in his sleep. I tried putting my hand on chest and talking to him, but he ended up waking himself up and after a brief smile ("oh hai mom") he went back to mega crying and was basically freaking out until I could get him changed and into new clothes (using the merlin sleep suit he sleeps in a onesie, but its too chilly to wear just that otherwise) and start nursing him. And even then, he kept taking those sob like breaths and gasps for a long while. Poor little guy :(

  • LO is just now getting cradle cap. I thought only newborns got it! I've been letting her shampoo soak and then using a soft brush on it. Doesn't seem to be helping though. :-/
  • Yeah we still have a bit of cradle cap. I imagine it was always there, but is just becoming visible now?

AND our first cold has now turned into our first ear infection. Baby is so miserable. Doc was kinda rough cleaning her ears, DH was getting mad so I was then having to calm both LO and DH down.

Oh and LO is teething. So yeah, good times all around in our household!
  • @hoodoll82 so sorry about the ear infection (and all the other stuff) I made DH go with me to the 2 month appointment and he was so nervous it stressed me out more. LO had to get his ears cleaned out last time and it was awful. I had to pin his arms down and keep him still while she did it. I was thankful DH wasn't there, but have to admit I wanted to cry right along with him.
  • @virginiaunicorn11 thanks, happened again today, not quite as bad, though. He went twice Friday, then didn't go yesterday. I gave him the 1 oz prune juice/1oz water yesterday and nothing. Around 5:15 I gave him 2 oz each and 1/3 of a glycerin suppository. About 45 minutes later, he finally went. I'm not sure why this is an issue all of a sudden, but I'm glad we know how to help him now.
  • I thought the temper tantrums of arching the back and screaming when trying to put in the car seat don't start until like 2? Oh boy I have a feisty little man... That's his new thing :-t
  • LO has these dry, red, scaly patches on her legs. I noticed them a few weeks ago, but they were very small and not red. Just like flakes of dry skin. Now they've gotten bigger. There are about five of them spread out on both legs. Any ideas?
  • Could it be eczema or psoriasis?
  • I was thinking maybe eczema. But it doesn't seem itchy. I guess I'll call the ped tomorrow.
  • @Sjeff0816 the one patch looks fungal to me, like ringworm... Def have it checked out, try putting some anti fungal in it, won't hurt if it's better on that spot tomorrow you will know
  • ^^ you can buy a little tube of cream at any store, just make sure Lo can't reach it to get on her hands, and then possibly in eyes, face
  • Thank you @HayesRN13! I was hoping you'd have some insight!

So today LO's breath smells like acetone. I know it's a sign of DKA, and in addition she's been extra sleepy. She didn't eat much yesterday at daycare so I'm thinking that could be it but with the addition of no weight gain in the past few weeks I'm getting concerned. If it still smells that way in the morning I'm calling her pediatrician.

ETA I called the pediatrician. They weren't concerned. I'm still concerned.

  • @dancegurl1118 yikes! I'm with hayesrn, can you somehow check her BG?

  • @HayesRN13 I wish I could! DPH is at our hospital all week so everything is on lockdown and the managers are on hyper alert. Even our delivery carts have to be inside the room at all times instead of in the hall.

  • ^^ boo.. Well then ER and check it.. I know that sucks but if your intuitions are right the sooner the better.. Anyone you know have diabetes and has a kit at home??
  • @HayesRN13 she's down for the night now and just took 5oz before bed so I'm hoping it'll be gone in the AM. If not I will call again. It could just be from her being sick for 2 weeks or just not eating well but ketones are dangerous so... Will reassess when she wakes up. Also instead of letting her go back to sleep when she whines at night were going to feed here tonight.

  • @dancegurl1118 I am really hoping things start to turn up for you. You've had a really rough go of things, and you've been so strong through it all. You deserve a change for the better. I hope everything is alright with LO, and your boobs stop giving you trouble.
  • Of course you have good days! And don't feel bad. We are a support group, right?
  • @dancegurl1118 hope she's ok! Don't feel bad, we're all here for each other
