I tried, very hard... He said that he would only do a day 3 transfer then. I basically got an ultimatum.
Like I said, if it works- then I will be very happy and fine with the decision but if it doesn't, I will be crushed knowing we could have tried a little more aggressively.
He said if 1 doesn't take, then we will do a second round and then he will allow 2. But 1 has to fail first. It all makes sense, but is very frustrating. I just see it in a whole different perspective than he does.

@Colleen0516 sorry in advance that this is a bit long
our dr said the same thing to us at our initial IVF consultation in May. My reaction was very similar to yours. I really wanted to be aggressive as possible and wanted to give us the the best chance to get just one. I was thinking, Bring on the twins!
I've had a lot of time (that was a hard compromise) to think about it and have since changed my thinking a bit.
I've since read a lot about it, read a lot if discussions on boards, talked to my dh & my doctors. We decided that one is right for us right now. We decided that waiting for a Day 5 blast was really important to us, especially knowing how much more information our drs have for picking one to stick.
We also talked about another pregnancy after our first (all we have is hope, right!?). If we are lucky enough to be successful (sometime), we know we'd like to try for a sibling. By then, I will be almost certainly be over 35 and will almost definitely be transferring more than one blast. So we kind of considered a family plan (ha, like it's just that easy). If this one fails although, I will have no problem transferring two next round!
Of course you have to do what you feel best about, what you feel at peace with and what is right for your family. I just wanted to let you know I've been there too!
Good Luck!!
@HBamama2B good luck tomorrow morning!! Fingers crossed that it is one step closer to a healthy baby 9 months from now!
@jav5y2 thank you for taking the time to write that! I am 100% okay with one happy healthy baby. I'm just scared that it may not work the first time. If it doesn't, because of personal reasons, I may have to wait until January to try again, I know that's only a few months away- but it feels like an eternity.
I know that in then end it will be okay. I'm just frustrated, anxious and scared. I so badly want it to work.
I guess only time will tell. Fingers crossed

Colleen0516 That is so strange do you mind me asking how old you are? I am 30 and we had 8.5 years of infertility. This was our first IVF we had 2 3d transfers. We were told this statistics...... 1 embie 50% chance of singleton pregnancy 2 embies 80% chance and a 50% chance of twins. I would ask the doctor your Odds and what is the best outcome of the for pregnancy. My Doc was amazing(all of them are) on our team. They always jumped to answer questions!!

@colleen0516 that's bs. I'm so upset for you. Not at the decision, 1 is fine, but that it wasn't yours to make!
Unless you're under 30, there's no justification for the hard line your Re is taking. What it does is shave their clinic's numbers below the 25% twinning rate. Have you looked at the SART statistics for your clinic? IMHO, go for the 5 day blast rather than a 3 day or 2 3 day, but if it doesn't work look for another re for your next cycle.
For me, cost is a huge factor. We have this one shot at IVF before our insurance dries up then we have to wait until next year when I'm over 35 and the risks are much higher for oh...everything. I understand that the Re is the expert, but at the end of the day it's your body and your call. An RE's job is informing your decisions, not revoking them.
@Knottie24173360 that is great! So happy you are doing well! Hope you're feeling great, resting lots and ready for some high numbers tomorrow! GL on your beta and keep us updated. So excited for you!
Good luck @Colleen0516 - I would say that if you've hung with your RE for this long you probably trust his or her opinion. With us our RE recommended one but said he would really do whatever we wanted, and would explain the risks. Of course for us, we don't want multiples so it wasn't a hard decision. I'm 7 days post transfer, though, so I am starting to get those niggling feelings of self-doubt. Still, it doesn't change the fact that I don't want twins! If this FET doesn't work out (knocks on wood) I'll just have to be patient and keep trying til one sticks. Sucks that you might have to wait. I agree - waiting just a few months when you're going through all this seems like an eternity.
I never thought I'd be so happy to have my boss say he'll need me to work late and over the weekend. All this work distraction is keeping me from crawling out of my skin overanalyzing every possible symptom at 7 days post FET!
@HBMama2B good luck today!! Thinking of you!! Let us know how it goes!
@khochanadel thank you! We're okay with twins, but anything more than that would be a bit of a concern for us. Maybe this is fates way of making sure that doesn't happen. I've come to terms with it over night-- What's gonna happen, will happen. The loss of control is the hardest part, but I have to trust my doctor and accept the situation for what it is. If I have to do a second round, I will be crushed, but life will go on and I will make it through!

@colleen0516 with zero basis in fact, I really feel like this cycle is the one for you guys an you'll get your BFP. I've got my everything crossed for you!!
Went in for day 8 monitoring today and they found 8 more follies on my left ovary so I have 22 total! Is that good? I'm hoping the retrieval will be soon! The ultrasound tech said maybe monday? Biggest was 19mm.
Soooo I have yet another set back. They found 3 additional cysts at my baseline today- that makes 4 total. They need to look at my bloodwork, but they think they are going to cancel this cycle and push it back.
You probably can all imagine what came next, tears started flowing even though I desperately tried to fight them back considering I was sitting ( half naked) on the examination table while my nurse and doctor told me the news.
Not the best morning. Praying for a good phone call this afternoon!
Praying for good news from other people too!!

Thinking positive thoughts for you today @HBamama2B
@Colleen0516 I'm so sorry. As if this process isn't long and draining enough, having it pushed back even further is depressing. Hopefully you get good news today and can proceed as planned. I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you too!
My RE called yesterday and I have 20 follicles but only 3 are measuring at 10mm. I'm on day 6 of stims. I feel like I should have more follies. Am I falling behind?
@Colleen0516 my doctor would only put in 1 for my first IVF as well if it was a day 5 transfer, and would do up to 2 if day 3 / lower quality. There are a lot of articles out there about the pros to a single embryo transfer. If you have a good prognosis, young, first cycle, etc, the rationale is that zero is better than a multiple pregnancy. Hard to swallow but long term I understand the reasoning. Although BFN, I am okay with the fact we only transferred one.... this time around though, given my now history, we will transfer two... FX.
Sooooo totally random, but last night I got hit by a cab! Spent the night in the ER, Xrays, CT scans, MRI.... Long story short came out with a cracked rib and a couple bulging discs in my neck. Aside from stiffness and some minor aches, honestly I feel alright! I have avoided ALL medications the ER was trying to shove down my throat. I called my nurse and says as long as I feel up for it, I am fine to follow through with my transfer on Tuesday 9/29. Am I crazy?! We have clearly invested SO much to get to this point that I really want to continue with my transfer. I feel like, well, things can't get worse, so maybe it's a sign for some good news coming my way?! Ahhh. Please send extra positive vibes my way.... Extra bed rest for me in preparation and lots of happy thoughts over here.....
@mclorn WOW! I can't believe that, glad you are ok! And, no, I don't think you are crazy. Everybody on this board knows exactly how taxing (emotionally, financially) an IVF is. I say if everything looks good, go for it! Good Luck!
@colleen0516 I am beyond bummed for you, I know how difficult waiting is -- doesn't seem fair. Hang in there.
@mclorn OH MY Goodness!!!!!! I am so sorry!! And no you're not crazy! If you feel up to it, then transfer! So much goes into this process- if your body is okay than I would do it!! Thinking of you! Rest up!!

I could hear women around being sick and I felt bad for them. Already home and resting with a heating pad. Tired but have some work to do before I nap.
Drum role please... They got 25 jeggies! I'm happy with the number but won't know how many are mature or fertilizing till later. Will keep you posted!
So happy I have you gals rooting for me. It made me feel great and much more confident that I could do this. Hugs!!

The nurse told me it wasn't something that was common to have a period after coming off the birth control and before the transfer. I asked if it could mess up the cycle this month and she said to come in Monday and they will do blood work and do an ultrasound. My egg retrieval was at the end of August so I'm ready to get this ball rolling.
@Colleen0516 Yes, they called. All clear to start my stims. The cyst is on the outside of my ovary so it doesn't appear to be affecting anything. Thanks for asking!

I never thought I'd be so happy to have my boss say he'll need me to work late and over the weekend. All this work distraction is keeping me from crawling out of my skin overanalyzing every possible symptom at 7 days post FET!
@khochanadel thank you! We're okay with twins, but anything more than that would be a bit of a concern for us. Maybe this is fates way of making sure that doesn't happen.
I've come to terms with it over night--
What's gonna happen, will happen. The loss of control is the hardest part, but I have to trust my doctor and accept the situation for what it is.
If I have to do a second round, I will be crushed, but life will go on and I will make it through!

Thinking of you! Rest up!!
