Since I've seen a lot of calorie-watcher posts on here, I'll say I eat whatever and I don't care how many calories they are. I just had 2 poptarts for breakfast and will follow that shortly with more food. It makes me worry what some people are going to feed their kids if they're so obsessed over calories.
My confession is that while I could not care less whether you buy organic or not, I will side eye the crap out of a shopping cart filled with nothing but garbage (multiple cases of pop, sugary cereals, ice cream, boxed dinners, etc.), especially if you are obviously a parent. I know it's not right for me to judge as a FTM, but get some veggies in there.

I know I mentioned the pop tart thing so I felt a need to comment. I think it's important to watch what your kids eat (as I'm sure we all do), but do so in a way that's not too crazy. The last thing I'd ever want to do is give my child a complex about food... I think this leads to children hiding food and being secretive. I think a child should be able to eat a cupcake or a couple of cookies or a happy meal... this is totally normal. I grew up eating that stuff and I still do. But, I think we should watch over portion size a bit. I'm going on 31 and I still order Happy Meals when I'm craving fast food because that's the proper portion size. I think we can all indulge as long as we don't go overboard. I'm not a calorie counter as my post, admittedly, made it sound. I glance at calories so i have an idea of proper portions, but I don't tally them all day. I just believe in eat what you want in moderation and be smart about balancing your day.
I may eat a muffin for breakfast, but on days I do- I balance it by eating a salad or having a soup for lunch.
i ate an egg sandwich this morning, so I won't have another sandwich at lunch.
But, these aren't things for a child to think about. They will naturally, probably do it as they get older but I will be gently guiding them without being too restrictive

I am NOT a calorie counter but I am very sugar conscious. I think it's just mean to give your kids a lot of sugar because they can't function properly on it. Neither can adults. I judge parents that give their kids tons of sugar. My get treats and understand that sugary food is a special treat and not something to eat regularly. They don't even know what poptarts are.

I eat whatever I want whenever I want. I'm terrible at the whole calorie or even proportions thing. I eat all day, mostly good stuff but some that is admittedly crap - I've been the same weight since 8th grade, so far with baby only gained 4 lbs @17 weeks. People hate me for it.

My son hated that I wouldn't allow pop in the house and IF we had Kool-aid it was the sugar free variety. I didn't allow a lot of snacks either. He would always point out how skinny he was and tell me he could afford it and he is skinny! He's 6'2" and weighs maybe 130. I was just trying to set him up with good eating patterns for the rest of his life.
My fffc goes along with a UO from yesterday - I don't have to have an expensive car, but it better have all the amenities I can get. I've driven a Hyundai and a Kia and now a Nissan Altima, but they had every option available.

Like I said it my original post, I only buy organic milk/ grass-fed beef in my own home. I can't control things at every restaurant, but where I can control it, I think it's important I do.
I'm not crazy about it. I don't buy organic everything. I pick the foods to spend more on based on where I think it's most important and, in this case, I'd rather spend more on my milk, chicken and beef than I do on other things because of the hormone/anti-biotic issue. I don't think that's extreme or unreasonable.

I have high hopes that someone actually comes up with a good flammable topic for discussion besides milk and poptarts.
Fffc: I'm babysitting today (I'm their back up so its once or so every 2 months maybe) Anyways, I have no intentions of shutting off the tv. It's a good distraction for one of the 3 kids here at all times. I already had the color fall pictures and color another pic, and I was looking up a fun toddler craft but the TV will stay on cartoons all day!

I wish my daughter would watch TV sometimes. It can be hard making dinner with her constantly "momma hold you?" and cling to my leg. Then cry because I tell her to wait outside the kitchen while I open a hot stove. Oh toddlers!
I don't count calories. But I also am very careful to make sure the majority of the food in my home comes straight from the earth or is meat. I do prefer meat that was humainly raised and fed was that particular animal is actually supposed to eat but I can't always afford that. My husband hunts so most of the time we have venison. My daughter doesn't get juice unless it is a special occasion. With all that said, I think indulging is fine once in a while. I don't go "educating" friends and family as to why I feed my family the way I do and if grandparents want to give my daughter something delicious I don't object. I just do my thing and i dont make any kind of big deal about it. I'm going camping with the in-laws this weekend and my MIL is going to make a huge cheesey, bacon ranch casserole thing and I'm going to get a huge portion and savor every bite lol. I think we can agree that we are all trying to raise happy, healthy kids the best way we know how.

The TV is on cartoons all day at my house. My kids don't sit in front of it all day. They will stop and watch/dance/sing if a song they like is on. Then go back to playing. I need the background noise.

There's nothing to be confused over. I just said I control it where I can. I am obviously not uber passionate about organic food. But, when two choices are staring me in the face, I choose the healthier option. I don't lose sleep over a McDonald's Cheeseburger.

My mom who has always been size 00, over controlled my food consumption when growing up. She constantly criticized or praised my weight well into my college days. I truly believe that this caused my horrible relationship with food. I have a love hate relationship with food and I put way too much emphasis on food in my life in general. And because of that, my weight has fluctuated so much even well into my adult years ( we are talking range of 110 lbs to 175lbs back and forth) I could dress 10 different size of women just from my closet.
I am having a hard time on how to teach my kids to have a healthy relationship with food. I want to teach them to eat wholesome and healthy without obsessing over it.
My confession is that I'm really wondering lately when DS (almost 2) will get savvy about me skipping pages in (or making up words to) his books. When you read 30+ books a day...some of them are just too wordy to read through entirely.
Luckily right now he likes hearing stories but doesn't notice huge chunks of plot missing.
I'm a calorie counter usually, but not when I'm pregnant, lol. YES pregnancy is my excuse for eating junk whenever I want and I give no f*cks about it!
Most of my grocery shopping cart yesterday was fruit, meat, and milk; this is my breakfast though! Yes, two donuts. About 800 calories. Oh well!
I hope to bring my kid(s) up the same way that my parents did regarding food. We were never told not to eat something and we had a wide variety of foods available in the house (lots of healthy foods as well as a few "junk foods"/treat type foods). We pretty much ate whatever we wanted as snacks as long as it wasn't right before dinner or something like that. We always ate breakfast, my mom packed our lunches for school, and we ate most dinners at home which were very healthy and balanced. OCCASIONALLY (like, 1x-2x/month) would get fast food and sometimes would go to sit-down restaurants. And we were never lectured on eating healthy or eating the "right" foods. I think we grew up with a very realistic and healthy view of food, which is that it's best to usually eat healthy foods but it's not a problem to indulge occasionally and you don't have to feel bad about food or get "permission" to eat a treat. Maybe it just worked with my brother and my personalities and maybe I will find that it doesn't work with my family, but I think that this really gave me a healthy view of food as I grew into adulthood. I had so many friends who weren't "allowed" to eat sweets and I always remembered thinking that was so strange as a kid. Now as an adult, I can see why parents limit treats and processed food, but it's interesting looking back because my brother and I weren't limited but still didn't eat a whole lot of that type of thing. It will be interesting to see how this works out with my family but that is definitely my goal!
ETA: This is not my FFFC. Just responding to the conversation that was started. I'll come up with something for my FFFC!
I also eat basically whatever I want - I do try and cook all our meals from scratch at home but that's not always possible. Sometimes we will have frozen pizza or mac n cheese from a box. I have been trying to snack healthier while at work though, basically I only snack on fresh fruit because I don't want to gain a ton of weight while pregnant. Although BF did help me lose weight last time, it's definitely not a cure all and to be honest I'm rather lazy about working out....

I had a bad eating disorder for years. I used to obsess I too, used have quite a range of sizes in my closet. Having a daughter really got me to do some soul searching because I really couldn't imagine watching her struggle like that. I am going to do my best to teach her that the number on the scale doesn't matter. What matters are the numbers in her blood work. What matters is she can go up a flight of stairs without being winded. I want to teach her to make choices that make her feel good. Like, she can wake up in the morning feeling refreshed, not tired. I just want to emphasize feeling well and energized is the goal. That means that I have had to adopt that for myself. Easier said than done but its been healing for me. I hope you find peace for your situation. It is hard to tackle that.

I agree with all of this. I don't think there should be any "restricted" foods - it puts them on a higher pedestal - making you want them even more and giving you feelings of guilt when you do eat them, probably leading you to eat more.

Well it didn't and is now on two threads. Yay... It also transformed into calorie counting and judging people for what they not only drink but eat! Yay again'
@inomniaparatus Don't you love it when people think you need to be all or nothing when it comes to health food? Like you have to be a health nut or a fast food junkie. I also only my organic milk and eggs and I try to find local sources for meats fruits and veggies but I'm far from 100% on it all being organic and super healthy. It's definitely not an all or nothing category. I figure if I feed my family healthy a good portion of the time then they will be just fine when we enjoy going out to dinner for burgers and fires .

My mother very much controlled our food intake when we were kids, but mostly without us knowing. My options for snacks were always fruits and vegetables (nothing crazy, just apples or baby carrots) and I didn't know that chips/packaged cookies/soda existed until I was at least 8 and noticed what other kids had in their lunches. There was nothing like that in our house, so it never occurred to me that people had cookies or cake other than at holidays or parties. Now I'm just used to grabbing healthier options for snacks, which, combined with some good genetics, has led me to never have a problem with weight or a need to count calories. I indulge in crap food now once in a while, but for the most part I avoid buying junk at the store. I hope I can translate that to my kids and encourage healthy eating without being a nutcase about it.
My FFFC: I'm down at my grandmother's in Florida, and I can not stop myself from being a brat about her boyfriend. She's been dating him about 3 years, which was only 6 months after my beloved grandfather and her husband of 51 years passed away very unexpectedly. I don't like him, and I don't like that she "replaced" my Papa so quickly, so I immediately revert to a stubborn, sullen 12 year old when I'm forced to communicate with him. I feel like such a child, but I don't even care.

Hah that all sounds so delicious. Gummy bears have been my downfall recently and Chinese food. Oh and I've had chipotle probably 10 times in the last month..
I'm still confused because those issues don't magically go away because it came out of a window. If you really have an issue with them, you'd make a conscious effort to abstain in and out of the home..

Fffc: I'm babysitting today (I'm their back up so its once or so every 2 months maybe)
Anyways, I have no intentions of shutting off the tv. It's a good distraction for one of the 3 kids here at all times.
I already had the color fall pictures and color another pic, and I was looking up a fun toddler craft but the TV will stay on cartoons all day!

I am having a hard time on how to teach my kids to have a healthy relationship with food. I want to teach them to eat wholesome and healthy without obsessing over it.
Luckily right now he likes hearing stories but doesn't notice huge chunks of plot missing.
Most of my grocery shopping cart yesterday was fruit, meat, and milk; this is my breakfast though! Yes, two donuts.

Don't you love it when people think you need to be all or nothing when it comes to health food? Like you have to be a health nut or a fast food junkie.
I also only my organic milk and eggs and I try to find local sources for meats fruits and veggies but I'm far from 100% on it all being organic and super healthy.
It's definitely not an all or nothing category. I figure if I feed my family healthy a good portion of the time then they will be just fine when we enjoy going out to dinner for burgers and fires .
Or you could try just not saying offensive things.
