Yup definitely worse to have broken up sleep. I'd kill for 5-6 hours uninterrupted sleep

Ugh so LO has started getting super loud and grunty while she sleeps about 2 weeks ago now. I've had to wear earplugs and those don't even help. After her middle of the night feeding I've been leaving her in her swing in the living room because I can't take the noise. Our bedroom is very close so I can still hear her but not so many of the grunts
Anyone else's LO loud? Do they outgrow this or is this how babies are during the night? We won't be buying a house until after I graduate in December so right now we are stuck in a one bedroom. I wish we had her own room or I would have started putting her in there

They will grow out of it

I'm pretty sure I've been doing a 5am dream feed for the past 2 weeks. She doesn't even open her eyes during both sides or a diaper change. Then just drifts back to sleep in her crib. What a weird baby.

    My LO does this! :)

  • ^ours does the same thing! Down to the wild animal look! I have taken to calling it baby rabies, another symptom being when he flails his head around my boob while he eats at then laughs hysterically.

He slept from 9 to 1. I will take it.
  • If DH were home, LO would have slept from 1030p to 230a. He is NOT home, so I of course get 1030p to 1a. DH looks at me like I'm crazy when I say I'm exhausted and have only slept for maybe 4-5 hours in 1-2 hour segments cause LO always sleeps longer when he is home!

  • Baby will NOT sleep tonight !!! She's gunna kill me :(
  • Well LO slept with me until she woke up at 2 to eat and she was so quiet and content. It feels good to get a good stretch of sleep but now I think we might start the habit of sleeping together more and I wasn't really planning on that
  • I didn't keep up with this thread because it got daunting-i had like 650 new comments to sift through but I'm angry and sleep deprived and I'm sure this echoes the sentiments of many a momma so sorry if I'm being repetitive:

My LO had been sleeping 9-4/10-5 straight through. I felt super lucky it had been going on for two weeks! I start back to work next Tuesday and now its up at 11,1,3,and maybe 5-but that would require him to sleep and he currently is wide awake from the 3am. This has been happening all week! I had to change diaper, pants, and sheets and just made it back to bed. I get up in 40 minutes what's the point of sleeping?! I just hate that this schedule change comes right as I go back to work. I could cry.
  • @delujm0 my kid does that fighting sleep, snapping eyes open thing, too! It's hilarious during the day and makes me want to cry during his witching hours.

So dream feeding may have worked our first time. LO was in bed at 7:30 (early for him), dream feed at 11:00, then he woke at 4:00. I heard diaper rumblings so I changed him, which I haven't been doing at night... Mistake. Kept him wide awake til 4:30. He woke at 8:00, ate, then back asleep til a snack at 9:15.

So we are got two good chunks of 4-5 hours. I'm still wiped, but I know this is great for his age. And I think my exhaustion is leftover from earlier in the week when he woke hourly - so @smashjam there's hope!
  • LO was up every freaking hour from 3:30am until 8 when I gave up. I just kept nursing him because it's the easiest thing to do but I am sure this is making his night time waking worse and creating a bad habit. But I am not sure what else I am supposed to do? Pick him up and rock him back to sleep? Isn't that just as bad? I wish babies came with manuals instead of internet pages full of conflicting advice (all of which says in one way or another that my kid not sleeping is my own fault and I should be doing x, y or z instead).
  • @AlwaysSunny1012 that sounds like our night. LO was up every hour since 4am this morning. Up for the day at 7am, cat nap at 9am and then we were off to her 2 month check up at 10am. After the night she had, I couldn't believe how pleasant she was during her appt. She cried when she got her shots but quickly calmed down from DH soothing her. I've fed her a couple of time since her appt but she's pretty much been sleeping since we left the doctor's office.
  • Praying for a better night last night was horrible and I may not make it if she doesn't at least give me a few hours!!

I feel you. If he would just nap during the day it wouldn't be so bad! I keep trying to pretend it is a growth spurt but this has been going on too long for that to be a factor.
  • We just had our 8 week appointment and doc told me she needs to be in crib soon. Ugh good luck to me
  • Not sure where to post this. But I am blaming the following incident on the fact that it's 11:15pm and I;m exhausted.
LO had his vaccines today. I was just trying to give him some Tylenol before bed and he swatted at my hand...I squirted it right inbetween his eyes. It started to drip but I hope I wiped most of it out of the way. #mommyfail. I feel terrible. Should I be oncerned? I guess I'll just watch for irritation? Ugh.

I'd say ok and just keep on doing what you're doing! My baby will not be in his crib at 8 weeks over night. what was your peds rationale?

I hope I remember my own advice when I'm exhausted and do the same thing... But is there a hotline # for the company to call on the bottle of medication?

  • @mellymar hahaha reading that gave me anxiety and made me laugh!
  • Okay funny you talk about dreams melly.... I've been having HORRIBLE dreams. Nightmares of all varieties. Just unthinkable things! I need this to be over......
  • Morgan Freeman's narration of go the eff to sleep on YouTube is making my night bearable. That is all.
  • Oh && I think it will become a staple baby shower gift. The book is necessary to get through being a first time parent.
  • My kid stayed up for an hour at his 3:30 feed. He would smile and wiggle when I'd put him back down, then cry when I laid back down. I picked him back up and rocked him twice - second time he let out a huge burp.

His sleepy, deep inhale face is the cutest and one of my favorites. I'm tired, but he's a good baby and I know one day I will seriously miss rocking him. I'm just hoping these increasingly longer nighttime wake sessions aren't leading us down a difficult path...

So many good points in here. I'm not a fan of saying "hate" in association with how I feel about my kid, but I get it. (Though I admittedly do have a pretty easy - not boring - baby.)

I particularly loved this (along with her points about loss of identity):
"My husband has been yelled at, picked at, belittled, and complained about/to more than I would ever have imagined, too. This is the man who I genuinely think is the best living man on the planet and in a heartbeat would marry again."

    That is so me.

At least I only ever imagined the lows. The slavery, the tyrant running my life, my loss of freedom, listening to a crying baby all the time, never sleeping, being covered in poop or pee (or both) all the time.
So, when there are bright spots... I'm feeling like I'm coming out almost even. (At least, I tell myself when I'm making smiley faces with LO at 11am to remember this smiley face time at my 330am resentful, sleepy time)

  • Why is it that every night when my girl wakes up at 4:00 she thinks it's time to party? She technically hasn't even been sleeping for 7 full hours wth!! It took me 2 hours to put her back down this morning ugh I feel like her feedings are becoming longer bc it takes her longer to fall asleep now... is this an 8 week thing? Everyone kept telling me wait for 8 weeks it gets better...well I'm here and haven't seen a difference!
  • Lately, LO won't go down for the night until 10pm, despite our best efforts. Last night she fell asleep at 8, woke up 830, fell asleep at 9, woke up 930, and then was finally down at 10. Then she sleeps until 10am (generally with feedings at 130, 5, and 730). This is nice while I'm on maternity leave and all but will in no way work when I'm back to work.

Any advice on getting her to do like 730-730 or 8-8 instead? She usually doesn't nap past 3 or 4pm.
  • I hate this 8 week leap ugh baby has not slept more than 30 min at a time so far tonight I'm cross eyed trying to watch tv to stay awake
  • Baby sleeping peacefully but I am wide awake. Why?!?!
  • I am still wide awake and baby is still sleeping. This is officially his longest sleep stretch ever. I can't effing believe this is happening.
  • I am still wide awake and baby is still sleeping. This is officially his longest sleep stretch ever. I can't effing believe this is happening.

This happens to me all the time. She's asleep and I'm awake and it never fails tgat the next day she refuses to nap so I can't nap either. Worst. About a week ago she slept for 6 hours, of which I slept for 5.5, and then when she went back down at 4am I was wide awake because my body apparently now accepts 5.5 hours as an extra good night's sleep. Boo.
  • Baby was up every 1-2 hrs from 9p to 6am when he decided to get up. At the same time as DS1. LO did take a long nap from 10-1230, but woke up just as I was putting our oldest down for his nap. I should be happy that I've been able to focus on one at a time for a good portion of the day, but I was really hoping to get a snooze in myself. A girl can dream... [-O<
  • Any advice on transitioning LO from rock and play to pack and play or crib? I'm also starting back at work so there is another issue there but maybe daycare can help get her used to the crib? My dad is watching her the other days at my house so not sure what will work best for him but LO is outgrowing rock and play. She'll be three months Tuesday. I tried laying her in the pack n play awake for a while today and for one of her naps well I was in the room but she did not sleep more than 10 minutes lying in there.
  • All I want is for my baby to sleep in the rock n play. Or just anywhere but on me. I never wanted to co sleep and I still don't but it's the only way to get some rest. I've spent too many nights trying to get him to sleep in there and nothing works. I love the snuggles but I'm sore and I never get a good nights sleep because I'm so worried about rolling over on him or him suffocating on my shirt. Also co sleeping is quite the cock block... tmi?

My LO usually has a 4 hour stretch (thank goodness) every night, then after his first feeding is up every 1-2 hours. He's been asleep for 5 hours now, hasn't hit his first feeding, AND I'M AWAKE. WHY. Ugh. Thank goodness DH is home tomorrow to help out.. I already feel like a zombie.

I should mention that he rarely takes naps during the day, but night he's got figured out. So technically night is a time where LO isn't constantly attached to me.. you think I would be fast asleep while I can.
  • 2nd time up for me tonight. LO decided he was out at 6:20 this evening, so I put him to bed. He wasn't waking for anything. I did a dream feed around 7:30 his usual bed time. He was up at 1, got him back down. And I'm an idiot, totally jacked up my swaddle job, just looked at the monitor and he was flaling his arms around cooing. Was very cute, but I need sleep. So I got up, changed the diaper, fed him, now back down again. Please sleep till at least 7:30.
