Ugh sinus issues are quite possibly the worst!!! Get one of those saline rinses and squirt it up there! It's a weird feeling but they are amazing

Been missing you around here, lady! Hope you feel better and have a good start back to work.

@aresee How's that plugged duct? I had a day like that yesterday. Woke up engorged on both sides and spent the whole day trying to nurse down. I have a hand pump for days like that, but for some reason don't use it except as a last resort (well, it's because I'm EBF for the foreseeable future and want my body to regulate). Do you ever pump it off? Anyway, just a note that I hope you're feeling well.

We've been swaddling one arm out and it's been working well. Read on the Bump yesterday that we should maybe transition him out of swaddling to help develop his motor skills. So last night we just did chest down. He woke up every 3 hours, but he's kind of been doing that anyway lately. Wishing he'd cut that 2:00-3:00 feed again, but if he needs it, he needs it.

Party time has been 6:00-8:00 am lately. DH has been taking LO out of the bedroom on the days I'm just too exhausted. Otherwise we all cuddle and enjoy it.

LO's first stretch was about 6 hours between feeds tonight. Not as long as she had been going up until last week. I'm not upset about that at all though. I'm upset that I've been up for TWO AND A HALF hours with insomnia since I put her down. She's sound asleep and I'm just laying here wishing I was. :((

This happened to me last night too. So annoying! I hate being tired for no other reason than I just couldn't fall back asleep!

DH gave LO a bottle last night so I could go pick up dinner. That was his last feed before bed. He fell asleep around 9 and slept until 4...awesome...except my full boobs had me up at 2!
  • @katyertl this sounds exactly like my LO she sleeps peacefully for her first stretch and then progressively gets louder as the night goes on and once 4 am hits she is so loud and kicking around so hard that she actually hurts herself by kicking her baby Einstein music player on the side of the crib..this makes it impossible for me or her to sleep bc she eventually cries. The other night I woke up to her completely horizontal I don't get it.....let me know if you ever find a solution lol

@virginiaunicorn11 I think I've got it mostly worked out now. I did a little pumping, but mostly just nursed in multiple positions all day.

ETA LO just ate/sucked from the affected side for 50 minutes! Hoping that was the end of it!

So in my middle of the night feeding and googling extravaganza I read that it's because they are getting in tune with their bodies and it's them trying to get out wind or gas. So last night we added gas drops to her night feeding bottles and she was quieter last night. I've done the same tonight so hopefully it works.

But like all baby related issues; you think you have it solved but usually another problem comes along then lol
  • @katyertl wow I will try that tomorrow night for sure ! Makes sense but sucks it's in the middle of the night lol wth babies are weird lol

Babies are so weird! And to think we were once them. I feel bad for my mom lol
Also I think their REM sleep gets screwed up then when they are put back down
  • Ha, I've been planning naps around if I think I'll have enough time to hit REM, no... Then I'll do something else. I get a long stretch at the beginning but then am up pumping now after nursing... Fingers crossed he sleeps longer after this as it takes me almost an hour to pump to empty at this time :(

I don't want to jinx anything, but LO has been asleep for 7 hours at this point. She had one of her worst nights ever last night and basically refused to nap yesterday so I knew she was tired, but still yay.

This is the second time I've been up to pump unfortunately but I don't even care. I noe have 12oz to freeze tomorrow.

She woke up 15 minutes after I posted here, but whatever. Still awesome.

    Hahaha! Love it. Corporal cuddling.
It does feel so forceful but you know they need it!! Lol @Sammy K
  • LO has been awful to put back down in the middle of the night lately. She sleeps long stretches like it's nighttime but then wants to be awake for an hour in between like it's daytime. She's asleep at the breast now and I'm terrified to take her off and lay her down. I just want to go back to bed!
  • Update: ok so she went down fairly easily (read: bedtime routine took one hour instead of 2 or 3) last night, slept 9:15-4:30, then had trouble going back down...but she did a MASSIVE barf at 5:45ish and after I changed my shirt and her swaddle, which were soaked, she let me rock her to sleep and lay her down on my lap around 6:15. She had a quick snack at 7:30 and is still asleep now.

Saturday night was terrible, she did a similar refusing to go back to sleep routine, but without the barf and at 1:30am. She only wound up sleeping 10-6:30 and was awake from 1:30-3. And then all day Sunday we could only get her to take 20-30 minute naps until finally at 5 she went down for 90 minutes. So she was definitely tired. I'm wondering if we are hitting that 8.5-9.5 week leap a little late (turned 10 weeks yesterday), and that's why the sleep has been weird. This weekend she started smiling and playing more and crying a bit less, so she's definitely got some development going on right now.

I go back to work 9/14 so I'm hoping we have some semblance of a nighttime sleep routine by then so at least I know when to expect to have to get up. Now if I get up on my own at any point I just go pump one boob because I have no idea whether she'll be getting up soon or not. And I'd like to figure out what my mornings will look like...DH has the morning shift when I go back to work, but I'd like to figure out whether I'll be breastfeeding her when she gets up, or preparing him bottles, etc. And also I'll base my wake up time around when she gets an early morning feed probably.
  • This kid won't sleep longer than 4 hour stretch in the night. Come on baby
  • LO was doing great, sleeping for 5-7 hours at a stretch. Now for the last week he's only been doing 3 hours at the longest stretch. I don't think we've done anything different to cause this, and he goes back to sleep after a feed easily enough. But I'm exhausted from having my sleep broken up. I think he might be in the middle of the 12 week leap, and I'm just hoping it passes soon because I don't know what to do other than to just wait it out.
  • Well my inlaws have been here this past weekend which caused LO to not nap as much...I thought it was going to be horrible but helped her sleep a little bit better not much ( increased longest stretch from 3 to 4.5) but I will take any increase at this point lol
  • LO has been sleeping with my mom and she sleeps so great, averaging 4 hours now (knock on wood!!) I cannot sleep with the baby. I tense up, I don't sleep well, I am all kinds of achy when I wake up. DH and I are looking for apartments here in Jersey and I'm super worried about nighttime on my own. Hoping and praying that LO will start sleeping through the night and in her crib before we find a place!
  • My kid didn't poop yesterday and it all came out at 2 this morning...fun times!
  • LO has been doing great at STTN, but last night we had a 4AM feeding and then another at 630. Could absolutely be worse but since I've been spoiled by 6-8 hour long sleeps (sorry humble brag!) I'm feeling extra salty about getting less last night. I decided to just get up after the 630AM one since we're going to Books and Babies at the library today at 930... might as well get myself moving so I can eat breakfast before LO wakes up for real.

Seriously hoping she lets me get a nap in today. I've never appreciated naps as much as I do now!

  • 3:45 is apparently party time now? I just want some dang sleel
  • LO slept from 8:45-6:15 only waking up once (2:15). This was the second night in a row with a decent sleep pattern, i hope it stays this way. Because my body keeps waking up every 2-3 hours, which is what it's used to. So I've just been pumping since I'm up anyway. As much as I love having 12oz to freeze every morning, I'd prefer if my boobs would regulate so I don't wake up engorged while LO blissfully sleeps in the pnp next to me. When I go back to work I'm going to be mad if I wake up 3x/night when LO only wakes up once.
  • When did yalls drop the MOTN feeding? And when they did when was their last feeding before bed?
  • LO has been up from 4am on. I just couldn't get him to settle. I am so frustrated and tired and since he will not nap I know I wont get an sleep today.

Mine started early around 7 weeks. She would go down sometime between 11-1 and get up around 630-7. In the last week or two (13 weeks now) she's been going to bed around 10 and waking up around 5 for the most part.

Trying not to curse it, but the past 2 nights LO has gone down sometime during the 9 or 10pm hour and slept until 4, 430 or 5. Hard to know if last nights was due to the fact he had his vaccines yesterday, either, so I don't know if this is the beginning of a trend in a good direction or just a coincidence 2 nights running. But, if I recall, our LOs are really close together in age (born 6/24), so hopefully if its the beginning of something yours will join in soon.

And, its not like the MOTN feed dropped, I've noticed he still stirs around 2, 230am, and wakes me, but instead of going to make a bottle and getting up to change him or whatever, I've been waiting a few minutes unless he starts to cry for real. But if he is just squirming or grunting I wait and he usually settles. If I did what I used to normally do, which is go make his bottle and come back up and go directly to him and change him, he would definitely wake up. I've also noticed he wakes up more if he is in that half awake state and sees me. So I've been peeking over the side of the bed (he's right next to my side of the bed) when he is doing his 230am squirmy grunting thing.

  • ^yup ours are a day apart! She slept awesome after her shots then went back to the 4 hour stretch. I. Can function fine waking up at 2 but was just curious. Head back to work in 3 weeks! When are you moving him to the crib @mellymar ? We're going to try next weekend and see how it goes but won't rush it if ends up being a disaster!
  • I'm hoping that we're coming out of leap 3. LO has been a bit grumpy for the last week and sleeping badly, but yesterday he was really happy and active and he's slept for 6 hours in a row tonight instead of just 3. Who would have thought I'd be happy about being awake at 4am!

  • @slr1229 we don't have central AC, only window units, and we are having a hot stretch right now. So I don't want to go thru the hassle of installing the AC unit in LOs room for just the next maybe 2-3 weeks before fall hits with a vengeance (we live in the north, once the weather begins to turn cool, it happens pretty quick). So I am waiting for the daytime temps to cool down before I start trying for naps in his crib during the day (its forecast to be hot for at least a week right now). At his 2m appt yesterday he was only 10# 4oz so I've got a ways yet before he hits the 15# weight limit in the pnp. So, an optimistic guess is end of September? Also, I'm not going back to work so I don't feel rushed about it like I would if I was heading back to work.

  • @mellymar
What PnP do you have... I'm curious because I thought most had a weight limit of around

15lbs for the bassinet and then
30lbs for the middle and lowest stages...

It hardly seems worth it to buy a PnP if the weight limit for the next stage is 15lbs...

I'm going to have to check the specs on ours as this has got me curious!

  • @christinabrtn I mean for the hanging bassinet attachment (the mesh thing that uses the same mattress that would go on the bottom of the pnp, but clips onto and hangs from the sides). He is using that as his bed right now. The actual pnp on the lower level can have more weight, I just don't want to reach down that far, so the ticking clock is on the use of the hanging 'bassinet' option.
