GTKY: Phobias

Grasshoppers - I just....I can't even. Something that already gets some serious air when it jumps DOES NOT NEED WINGS!! The noise they make and the way they always seem to aim for the face. I realize they can't hurt anyone but I still scream like a schoolgirl and full on cry. Public or not.

Small spaces - because small spaces.

Spiders! I'm afraid of all spiders.

I also get really panicky every time I have to cross a street, but there's a reason for that. I was hit by a car several years ago while crossing the street.

OMG! I'm so glad you're okay. How scary!

  • Garages at night. My cousin decided it was a good idea to lock me in the garage when I went out to grab something when I was about 8. There was not good lighting in our garage. I curled up in a ball and cried until my sister came to my rescue. I now run in and out of the garage when I have to get something. Silly, I know.

Garbage disposals and peep holes in doors. I've seen too many scary movies.
  • @Sbrouwer0706 I'm with you on garbage disposals. I have and will never put my hand in one. I don't even like looking down them.

  • Falling through the floor or more specifically the floor collapsing. Feeling the vibrations of someone else walking across the floor totally freaks me out. No idea why but I've had it since I was little. It gets a lot worse when I'm pregnant.
  • @melmel92 ..... DH has such a disgust for them he will have a total flip out moment if he finds one on him, to the point that hes pulled over while driving because he thought he had a long hair on his face

my phobia... clowns ....omggg one time in the subway i was on my way to a date with a nice guy he starts laughing because he saw a clown, i freaked out ...asked where he points to it ...i end up running to the next cart and as soon as we hit the next station i got out crying!!! needless to say we never went out again because now he was associated with the clown! all this because i was little and my cousins were watching IT , and attack of the killer clowns ...i wasnt allowed but thought it was ok to sneak watch it .... i should have listened !!!!

  • @gabrielafrnqyepez I totally understand your husband, I'd do the same. I just CANNOT deal with wet loose hairs. Just the thought makes me cringe..

@MariahOBrien Haha I'm with ya girl with hating creepy dolls. Too bad with LO's on the way, our houses are about to be full of them! If my kid ever leaves a toy in one place and I find it in a different place later that night I will FLIP out!

Edited because I can't type on my phone.

  • Lol sorry for the nightmares I just gave everyone! I just visited my parents and my mom has my old porcelain dolls displayed in the guest room. I swear they were watching me sleep!

  • Spiders. I freakin hate 'em! I'm also afraid that the giant TVs that are suspended at Walmart will fall on me when I pass under them.
  • What's that phobia called when you fear vomiting? Emetophobia something like that? Yea that's mine. I haven't vomited in over 10 years and only a handful of times my whole life. Even though I already have kids this fear has caused me major anxiety to the point I've become a total germaphobe. I hate cold and flu season for this reason since stomach bugs are rampant.
  • But but but.... I'm totally afraid!

  • @foxracerjess268 SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!! fish freak me out!!! GAH!!!! every summer we'd go to the lake growing up and my aunt lived by the dam...I swear those things could have swallowed me! Even goldfish creep me out. I don't even get in the ocean. Also, I can't swim. I'm terrified of birds. THEY'RE LIKE CREEPY LITTLE DINOSAURS AND THEY STINK! I also do this weird thing where I stop breathing when I'm stuck between two 18 wheelers on the highway. I live in Atlanta you'd think I'd be used to it but nope!
  • @jenn2132 one of my former student was the same way!! And she went to nursing school!!

I'm afraid of elevators (piled a whole volleyball team on an elevator in high school while we were at volleyball camp and the elevator definitely dropped half a floor and we had to climb out!!!!), hospitals, and having my BP taken. Needless to say, each OB visit is is so much funn!

  • The Disney movie Alice in Wonderland!?? I don't know why it just gives me the hee bee jeebees. I have 3 older children and they have never seen that movie.
  • Sand. I'm terrified of getting send in my clothing and sensitive areas.

Caterpillars, worms, snails, slugs, grubs- anything wiggly and squishy like that.

Small spaces you can't get out of or with too many people. So flying sucks.

Drowning. Really really REALLY scared of drowning but I love to swim, so go figure.

Heights. Again flying sucks. I need the drugs to get on a plane.
  • I hate spiders. And railroad tracks. I get very nervous when i am the first car stopped at a railroad crossing. I also hate bridges, whether it's driving on one or being stopped under one.
  • Frogs.
    Mice
And flying bugs like moths and praying mantis

Can't deal with any of these things.

I used to hate these things, too. But, after living in Australia for almost 2 years, I pretty much became desensitized to all sorts of creepy crawlies.

Jk. Now that I'm back home I'm still afraid of garter snakes.

    ETA: a word.
  • Snakes.. I'm absolutely terrified
  • Wild snakes, bugs, and spiders are my biggest. That Harry Potter movie with the spider, I almost died. I force myself to watch it to get over the fear of the movie. But in real life keep them away.

Ferris Wheels. Eff that I'm out. No way. My dad spun the thing you're in as a kid (or pretended to try) and I say on the ground in the middle wrapping myself around the pole so it didn't spin because it terrified me.

Walking past graveyards at night. One trick or treat my dad was joking about the skeletons coming to life and I wigged out. I shake now. It was worse years ago I would cry.
  • @midge519, Ferris wheels freak me out, too. I rode the giant one at navy pier in Chicago last year with my husband and I cried. The view was spectacular, but I was so scared.
  • @beckles112 I'm praying my kids never ask me to go on with them. Last time I was with them at an amusement park my Dad took them because I was almost in tears not wanting to do it. One day I'm sure I will (with lots of help from my SO) but right now, nope. I'll stay on the ground with the baby lol.

I also freak out preparing for a roller coaster. I love them but the wait after you sit down and that ride up the first hill is terrifying. I get the clammy hands, racing heart, shortness of breath, everything. But the moment we hit the drop in golden lol
  • Totally agree about the roller coasters. I can do those heights because I'm not up there too long!
  • Cancer. :( I am so afraid of it that I can't even look at any of the buildings where it is treated when I drive by them. I often feel sick and chilled just reading the word! (Sorry, not as cute as fearing bugs. :/)
  • My biggest fear is going blind.  I have had glasses since 2nd grade and contacts since 6th.  My dad has really bad glaucoma and all my grandparents have had eye issues. Not being able to see clearly, or at all scares the shit out of me.

  • Blood, gore, any injury of any sort. I'll faint just hearing about it. With that, also comes the fear of something happening to my children and not being able to help them because I'll be passed out.

Also, anything with wings. Birds terrify me with their flapping and swooping down. So does any sort of bug. I tried to work on that this Summer because I don't want my little girl to see me flinch or run away every time a bee comes by but that's not working out so well... Oops.
