Re: Nighttime sucks. That is all.

  • Night is upon us... Sleepy fairy dust to everyone's LOs.
  • Loading the player...
  • Well the night has already started bad ... LO went down at 9 and woke up at 10 and again at 11
  • App keeps only posting half of what I write? Is there a way to retrieve my drafts? You would think I would know after using app for 10 months

I'm just saying that I didn't even get a chance to brush my teeth yet today,..... Screw it. Not wasting 3 min of sleep time.
May the spirit be with you all tonight.... (Little catholic humor)

Same here... And I still have the same crazy ponytail I went to bed with last night.
  • Got the little dude down for the night and I can't sleep cause I'm thinking about something DH said the other day. As I ponder it further, I get madder about it, and obsessively think about it more.

btw @klkonwi @rrcameron21 since I have to give a formula supplement bottle before bed once I'm done I wrap him and soothe him, put him in the pack n play and turn on my white noise app. Now, since I have to go and rinse the bottle regardless, once I come back upstairs I brush my teeth. By the time I'm done LO is almost out. Bright side to having to supplement - I get to brush my teeth :D

  • @mellymar i supplemented tonight and managed to get some real sleep out of him! I think we might be having latch issues because he was on the boob ALL DAY. One 2oz bottle and he's down for the count... I guess it's just that easy sometimes.
  • Ugh we are at almost 8 weeks and LO was up to 4/5 hour stretches, but we had to switch to a sensitive formula that is so broken down that it is quicker to digest ... Which means we are back to 3 hour stretches before she's hungry. So to recap: less fussiness and reflux, but somehow shorter sleep cycles. FML.
  • Of course I'm awake while LO is still sleeping. That's the worst kind of not sleeping because there's no good reason.

Also I am feverishly researching lip ties and places to go get a consult. It's going to be like $1000 but I don't even care -- if it saves us doing it when she's older and aware I'm in.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • We caught LO at the beginning of the overtired cycle tonight and got her to go down at 8:30 instead of 10-11 like usual.
Success! She got up to eat at 12:30 and I briefly fell asleep in the nursery but am pumping now and about to go back to bed...FX for another 4 hour increment.
  • @dancegurl1118 I'm awake for no reason too! I think it's because I'm dreading being woken up... Which makes no sense.

Use your supplement window! Use it!

    Go to sleep!

  • When will it end?! LO screams bloody murder for hours between 4-8 every night. She goes in spurts. Will be fine one minute then screaming the next. I work nights until 9 or so, so poor hubby has to deal with it. But it's heartbreaking. Once she's sleeping for good she's great for the rest of the night. It's just always those hours. And my mom is convinced something is wrong but I've heard about so many babies doing it. Or do you think we should be worried!!?

This. I ask DH this so many times a week. Is something wrong or just babies be babies?
  • @mellymar Don't worry momma! We have all had our moments. And I'm positive your baby doesn't remember or care. He just wants you. I know it's really REALLY hard sometimes to wake up and be patient and loving when all you want is sleep. I am so sorry that you have to deal with the nights solo! My DH works second shift so he gets home in the middle of the night. I can't imagine how hard it would be to have him gone all night. Is there any way he could watch your DS for a few hours before he leaves for work and you can get a little nap? It might not be at nighttime but maybe sleeping for 2-3 hours sometime during a 24 (or longer...) period would help you stay calm during those long nights. Sending some T&Ps your way for a break, no more pain, and forgiveness for angry mommy! (And that your dream about DH never comes true!!)
  • @katyertl my DS does this when I am gone and he is with dad too. I think some of it is while my DH loves his son and wants to be a good dad, he is still a little nervous and unsure of himself and DS can sense it. Babies are very in tune to the feelings of people because if the person they are with is comfortable and at ease, they are safe. But when the person they are with is uncertain, the baby feels uncertain of its own safety and well being. I'm not saying that your DH is unfit by any means, but I know for my DH the crying makes him feel even more unsure because he thinks he is doing something wrong. I keep telling him that it's just a matter of feeling okay and confident in himself. I am trying to compliment him more when I see him doing things well too which seems to be helping. Is there a friend or family member who might be able to help him out for part of your shift at work? Maybe even having another adult around would help him feel more relaxed. Good luck and let us know how it's going!

    @lovethatcolosun Happy Birthday!!

@mellymar don't worry! He does not remember your angry face. He went to sleep dreaming of milk and boobs. You're doing awesome. And I feel you on the spit up! These days my outfit isn't complete without spit up on it somewhere.

@katyertl our LO was doing that a few weeks ago but it was from like 8-11. He was just overly tired and fighting sleep. Not sure what your DH does, but I talked to the pedi about it, and going to a quiet place, white noise, and rocking helped immensely! Now we take him to the nursery by 8, put his pjs on, and rock him. Once he falls asleep we put him down immediately. He's usually down for the night. It's annoying because sometimes it takes 30 minutes and sometimes it still takes awhile. I also agree that your LO might just want you. This is the case with us sometimes, but you're at work and it's great bonding time for your DH and LO! Definitely don't think anything is wrong! Hang in there!

We went from 4 hour stretches back to every two hours last night. I guess it's that 6 week growth spurt, but I'd like 4 hours back!

Hope your birthday was great @lovethatcolosun

My doctor said late afternoon - early evening is a really common "witching hours" period for babies. The theory is that they've had so much stimulation all day that they're just over it by then. We try to calm her as much as possible and start the bedtime routine as close to 7 as possible...by that time she's so overtired we can usually get her sleeping around 8-8:30.

Push through it...this generally ends around the 3 month mark, and is worst between 4 and 8 weeks. I like to tell myself when she's screaming at 6pm that it means she's worn out and will sleep well that night...may not be true, but it keeps me sane.
  • LO slept from 9:45p-4am then 5-9! But guess who was up dealing with a painful wisdom tooth? Ugh!! Thankfully I have surgery scheduled next Tuesday to get this sucker out! Totally sucks I wasn't able to take advantage of this. :-S
  • ^^same!

Someone teach my baby to sleep! I'm going insane.
  • So tired I'm taking a nap with her on me right now ...screw it
  • So, my LO has given us 4,5, & almost 6 hour stretches this week. The problem is I feed off of 1 side/feeding. So I wake up & pump a little so she isn't choking, feed her, then have to pump to relieve engorgement on the there side, but only a little, bc then I'd be asking for more milk & then my body is like "heck yeah, 5 hours! It's 4am! Let's do this day, you got some sleep!" & it takes me forever to go back to sleep. Not a horrible problem to have, just weird adjustments.
  • Is all breastfed babies up every 1-3 hours at 6 plus weeks? Lol I want hope that it ends and she will sleep for longer periods
  • @house86 I feel like BF babies feed every 2-3 hours until they eat solids. At least that's what I was told. Mine eats every 2 like clockwork.

  • @house86 on a rare occasion he can go 3 hours. Very rare! My LO is only 3 weeks old though so I'm definitely no expert
  • My 6 week old eats every 2 hours at least during the day but he's starting to stretch out a bit at night. He'll typically do one 3-4 hour sleep and then another 2 hour sleep, with 1 hour of feeding in between.

Mine does too! Thought that I was the only one not getting the sleeping stretches during the night that everyone is talking about.

I must be blessed with a unique kid... He is breastfed and the last 3 nights he went 5 hours, 5.5 hours, then 6 last night. Followed by a 2-3 hour stretch. I'm probably jinxing myself for tonight by typing this. During the day he eats nonstop. And cluster feeds before bed.

Eta he is 5 weeks 4 days today
  • my LO sleeps for 4 hours at night sometimes, i honestly have more issues with him during the day time.

and @mellymar i totally feel you.
during the day LO was fussy and hungry after eating the full boob and whatever was in the other one, i had to keep switching boobs and he just wouldnt close his mouth and latch and when he did he kept pulling and pushing trying to tear my poor nipples off and i was just getting so frustrated. i almost broke down crying.
he was on the boobs for over an hour.
  • @itzdianababy @amy4516 hate to be the bearer of bad news but...she eats clockwork 2 hours during the day and then gives me a 5 and 3 hour stretch at night so basically I have 1 night feeding. Sorry! She's done that since early on though.

Lucky! I'm still not the only one tho @amy4516 . Lol Hopefully our LO will start doing that for us soon. (Really hopeful)
  • @itzdianababy @dancegurl1118 My guy started out sleeping in 4-5 hour stretches but then went back to not sleeping at all for awhile. Literally. Like awake from 1 am - 7 am. Or 3:30 am - 12 pm. I then got mastitis so I decided to exclusively pump until healed (hurts way too bad for him to be on the boob!). Now he's sleeping 3-4 hour stretches the last 2 nights. I almost didn't even want to type this in fear that I will jinx myself! Maybe he just wasn't digging the bf'ing?!
  • My LO is EBF and usually does 3 4-hour stretches (which means I only get about 2-3 hours of sleep at a time because it takes about an hour to feed him, change him, and get him back down) from about 7pm on. He then eats every 2 hours like clock work during the day to make up for it. I'll take it though! Has only made it 5 hours once or twice and my boobs huuuurt after that. I thought my LO was eating very frequently but it sounds like there are a lot of babes eating way more often! I stick with the EASY method during the day (Eat, Awake, Sleep, You) so that he sleeps more at night.
