  • @klkonwi hahaha yes! Exactly like that but on her side...I can't imagine it being comfortable. And God bless your child for falling asleep without motion.

She's definitely too big for the newborn napper in her PNP but I am so nervous to put her on just the regular mattress, it looks so uncomfortable. But she keeps kicking the end and freaking out. She won't have a crib for 2 more weeks after we close on our house...

Anyone's LO transition to the mattress of the PNP?

I have kind of. LO is too long for the napper, but sleeps with his legs curled up and still likes the napper better. If I feel like he's really asleep, I'll put him in the big part, but if not, he still goes in the napper. I know I need to just take the napper off, get him used to it, and deal, but I'm scared. I need sleep too! lol. He doesn't seem uncomfortable though. Just freaked out by the large space.

@dancegurl1118 just saw your above post! Good luck! I hope she likes it!
  • My twins got their shots today (3 plus an oral injection! :( ) .., but they've been in bed since 8:30. It's now 10:30 and my body is refusing sleep. And I go back to work tomorrow... What is wrong with me?!?!

We keep having an issue of going to sleep. After she feeds which is a battle (lately she gets frustrated and kicks and digs head into chest) and I burp her, then try to rock her and she doesn't want to settle down. Only does this at the 9pm feeding. Then after that she is a dream and wakes up twice in the night (3 weeks and 5 days old). Not sure what her deal is with falling asleep.

We've had this issue for a while now. Since about 4 weeks...LO is 6 weeks now. Our pedi said it's pretty common. He'll even start to fall asleep and then start kicking and moving his arms to wake himself back up. We've started winding him down at 8:00. We change him into pjs, keep him in his nursery, and rock him. He's now usually asleep by 9:00. Before it was lasting until 10 or 11. Getting him away from stimulation definitely helps!

Update: LO slept in the crib all night with no incline for the first time ever. She did the grunt thing for 20 or so minutes every time I put her back down but she did put herself to sleep every time. I didn't get my 6 hr and 4 hr night, we were up every 3, but I figure that's pretty damn good for the first night not only in a crib but flat on her back. She's always slept in the bouncer.

Is anyone else freaked out that LO will choke on their spit up laying flat on their back? DD has reflux, and last night, the second time I put her back down, she immediately spit up about a quarter of her bottle. It didn't bother her and she seemed to feel much better, but then I was worried about it happening when I wasn't right there to catch it.

I am ALWAYS worried about this. DD doesn't spit up large volumes or very often, but occassionally when we wake up I can see that she has spit up. Sometimes when she's awake the spit up will come out her nose...how do I know that's not happening at night???? I try to get her to turn her head to one side at least but it doesn't always happen. This is why I keep wanting her in our room with us, so I can hear her. I'm going to go crazy when we move her to her crib!
I worry about this, too. But I read in my Mayo Clinic Baby's First Year book that its not a concern. It doesn't explain HOW its not a concern, it just says it isn't.
    :-??

  • @mellymar theoretically it's not a concern because babies can swallow at any angle unlike adults. So while you and I would choke, they just swallow it back down. It just gets hairy if they're coughing at the same time and that's when a turn to the side and back pat goes a long way

LO grunted in her crib for over an hour before I broke down and picked her up. It's now been 20 mins of rocking. I go back to work tomorrow... Here's hoping that the next feed puts her to sleep for good :((
  • im dreading tonight/going to sleep. LO was circumcised today around 1pm.
i managed to pass out due to not enough nutrients for LO and myself so my body has been putting it all in my milk. my head is killing me.
LO started crying while on the boob still and he has been spitting up as well (my one half is now covered) and im just really worried about something happening to him. im terrified. and i just feel overly emotional as well now today. i hope he sleeps well, DH will be checking his diapers tonight.
and because i passed out i was never told the aftercare instructions.

  • and because i passed out i was never told the aftercare instructions.

Our aftercare instructions were to put vasoline on the surgical site and smear it on the front of the diaper where his penis would come in contact with the material so it doesn't stick. Other than that, leave it alone. It was all healed up before I really expected it to be (those days did all go by in a blur, tho)

@JessHeppell I read about that in randoms! I hope everything is okay and the nutrient situation is worked out so that you can continue BFing!

LO is finally drifting off after 4 hours of fighting sleep. I thought these 3 am bedtimes were a thing of the past...

In hindsight, I guess that's what I get for letting her sleep all day long. I'm proud of myself for not breaking down and sticking her back in the swing tonight though. This crib transition is tricky and weird but I'll be really happy once it's done and out of the way. Here's to hoping I don't fall asleep at work tomorrow!
  • An hour ago LO woke me up with his squirming and making random noises. In my sleep-hazed state, I looked at him in the pack n play, noticed his swaddle blanket was all messed up and cursed my hubs in my brain for such a terrible swaddle job. Re-swaddled the kid and climbed back into bed without a thought for the fact it had been 3 hours since he ate, and that I didn't even bother to check his diaper - which would have been a prime reason for him to have squirmed so much that his swaddle got all effed up in the first place. A few minutes later, as I looked and he had squirmed apart MY swaddle, I finally woke up enough to realize that I should probably change him, and feed him.

    2am mom fail.

  • Up every 2 1/2 hours after a successful 9:00 feeding and no screams- thought I'd for sure get her to sleep past 12 but nope- 11:30 and now.

LO will not stay asleep for more than 10 minutes. I'm about to lose it. :((
  • LOL hadn't pooped for a day. Of course its 3am when she needs to poop, so she grunted and squawked for 30 min then needed to eat. DH has to be up at 5 for work so I think we're going to stay in the nursery until then. I just want one night where she can go more than 2 hours between being awake.
  • Lo's sleep has shortened again here too. We are supplementing a little less which would be the reason. @JessHeppell good luck! Can you put out bowls of nuts around the house each day? Put protein bars in each room that you can grab when needed?
  • I just pumped the most I've ever pumped..and I want to do a happy dance but I'm just so. Damn. Tired.

Pack n play mattress was not a success. She grunted all night. I think she has gas and her swaddle me's are too small. I have to find her larger ones in our packed boxes.

  • I really want to go back to bed but I don't want LO to wake up DH since he has to be up in 40 min anyway. LO is just about out of her swaddle but I will wake her if I fix it. I have a feeling I'm done sleeping for tonight.

@katyertl I remember saying the same thing. During thunder storms when both kids are up, I wonder why we had kids at all. But seriously, the first 3 months are the worst. Get through those and then you will really start to have fun.

I keep hearing 3 months is the magic age. Only one month and a week left lol
  • My kid just fought sleep for three. hours. His eyes close, and he snaps them awake, snarls, looks around and cries. Like, "Who the F just closed my damn eyes?!"

I'm laughing in the inside. On the outside, I'm drooping and whispering begging pleas into LO's ear. Go the F to sleep, my little terrorist angel love.

This was my morning today. From 8am until we finally got a real nap...at 1pm. It. Was. Horrible. I needed a drink well before noon...and will be having one as soon as DH gets home.

LO has been sleeping like a champ today and I'm scared for tonight. I've contemplated waking her several times but after the last two days of her being attached to me, I just don't wanna do it. I'm sure I'm in for a long night. Can't win.
  • @katyqv this is exactly me right now. I'm just staring at his sleeping angel face and dreading what nighttime will bring... But this is so nice right now!
  • @katyqv this happened to me yesterday. LO took a really long nap yesterday morning (slept from 5 until around noon), woke up, ate, went back to sleep again and I definitely paid for it last night when he was wiiiide awake from 3-5 am. This morning he slept again in the morning but he's up now so I'm hoping that helps a bit. It's hard to wake them up when they're sleeping during the day because that's when things around the house can get done but then you pay for it at night. Is your LO ever awake but not angry whenever she's anywhere else beside on you? My LO is content in the swing right now so I'm lucky that he can be awake and happy somewhere else beside me so I can still get things done. Even if she needs to be on you I would still recommend waking her at some point just so your night is a little better. Good luck, it sucks I know!
  • katyqvkatyqv member
@rrcameron21 she's starting to stir after a 2.5 hr nap. She typically only sleeps 1-1.5 hr stretches durning the day so this isn't way off the norm but I'm still sensing a long night ahead.

@LaurenAnn0405 The last couple of days she's just been angry if she's not with me. Prior she loved tummy time and her swing. Hoping this clingy episode passes soon. With her nap today I was actually able to get some laundry done. Win!

@HayesRN13 my LO is so noisy when she sleeps. She makes tons of noises, moves, makes little cries in her sleep, and it wakes me up. I have a noise machine just to keep me from hearing her little noises.

    4w3d's old today!

Bedtime is finally getting better for us. If anyone is on the fence about co- sleeping and has been struggling at night, I encourage you to try it . Once we're in bed for the night, I can usually feed and change his diaper before he even really wakes up throughout the night (after he's in a milk coma I can move him to do a diaper change without waking), which has been amazing. He gets fussy before even completely waking up, so I can feed him before he opens his eyes or gets upset. He usually feeds every 3-3.5 hours beginning at midnight.

Before bed however, he's becoming quite fussy and it doesn't seem to matter what we do he's unhappy. I hope it's not colic starting, and it's just a growth spurt. He can be happy all day, but beginning between 5-7pm, everything turns upside down. It's heart wrenching an exhausting.
