I was SO excited to get the all clear from the ped today to let LO set his own feeding schedule at night. I thought to myself - 'no more 3am!'. Well, the caveat to setting his own schedule was that the ped said LO should at least eat every 4-5 hours overnight, so I did have to set an alarm after all. For - you guessed it - 3am. Ugh... (:|

Also, we tried to begin a nighttime sleep routine tonight (last night now) so that we could have LO sleep in his pack n play... Yeah, that didn't work. I ended up spending 2 hours trying to let LO self soothe or soothing him myself and the kid would not go to sleep in the pack n play. Always would get right up on sleeping, and every time would not make the final transition into sleep and start over. And hubby, who I was so I love with earlier today for feeling like he relieved me and switched me to 'off duty' slept thru the whole lot of it until the end.

    I'm stupid tired right now

  • @mellymar im stupid tired too......mine is still currently fighting sleep. I'm on 2 hours of sleep..... Legit.
  • I hate our middle of the night routine: eat and burp for 45 min, rock for 15, sleep for 1 hour, gas for one hour, calm for 3 minutes. And repeat. I just want more than one damn hour of sleep. I'm so tired I had to check I spelled damn correctly.

LO turns 6 weeks today. He should start sleeping though the night tonight, right? (Just kidding). Is it so much harder with the second or am I just remembering everything wrong?
  • Lovely, our auto rock n play we got two weeks ago is doing some funky noises from the motor and is so obnoxious. Don't have receipt anymore- will babies r us return? This is the only thing baby girl will sleep in!!! Fml

Ours did this too. Only had it for a few weeks. You could try exchanging it but we opted to contact Fischer Price and they are sending us a refund check ( we just have to send them a part that essentially makes it useless).
  • I read somewhere that the motor on the rock n Play will make funny noises when the battery is dying. Not sure how true this is....

I would contact the brand. Our swing from Fischer price was making super wierd noises from the start so i online chatted them and they sent a replacement!
  • @JessHeppell other pp have mentioned some of these same things but just wanted to weigh in...first of all my LO is 17 days old today and the last 4 days were the first 4 I went without bursting into tears over something. It really does get better-for me it was getting used to the feeding schedules and growth spurts and realizing that not every little thing was directly related to me being incompentent...its just babies being babies!

Also I took a shower around the end of week 1 and directed some water to my Virginia (the smell and the blood was getting to me!) and basically washed away all the clots on the stitches and the tears I had that didn't get stitched. I couldn't walk or sit and I wasn't infected at all...just basically reopened all my tears. So I hope you aren't infected and that its just some of the same general discomfort.

Hang in there...like I said, it took me almost two weeks to not cry daily...it will get better!

turns out i have an infection starting. got a prescription for something i have to take 4x a day. -_- at least we caught it though
  • Grr... Been trying to get my LO down for the past 2 hours. He just can't get enough in his tummy. I'm pretty sure my boobs are drained. So I went the old formula route. He just guzzled those 2 ounces so I'm hopeful we will now get a decent nights sleep. Trying to get a burp out before I lay him down. Best wishes to all for easy nights!
  • @mellymar this is huge!!!!! Yesss!!!!

Mine ate 4 oz at 930..... Then at 11 was fighting sleep like no other....... Decided maybe I should feed him more and he took another 2 oz.
I'm fairly certain it's not normal for a 3 week old to take 6 oz even if it is breastmilk !!?!?!
  • Last fed at 10 and now up again at 12. Sigh
  • LO's been up for 3 hours fussing, eating (I must be empty!), and just being a crazy man! He is wide awake just staring at me right now :|
  • Basically since birth she's given me a 4-5 hour stretch to start the night. Now the past 2 nights since these damn shots she's only been sleeping 2-3 hours. LO giveth and taketh away..

DH woke her up after she was sleeping peacefully by trying to refill her humidifier...loudly. I lost it. I got really nasty with him. Not my finest hour but, I was exhausted and knew he'd have another restful night of sleep while my precious minutes just got cut into from carelessness.

    Oh. My. Gods.

I just got him to fall asleep in the pack n play. :-bd

(Now, I probably won't be able to fall asleep, myself)

It was a cruel joke. Lasted maybe 15 minutes. Then awake again, working hands out of the swaddle, needing to be changed, generally starting from scratch all over again. Now he's on the boob again, and I'm hoping I can again get him next to sleepyland and try again.

At least I was able to accomplish that he did, in fact, fall asleep in the pack n play. Vs on the bed with us. Of course, we came to bed at 10pm and its 1am and I've only gotten maybe 20 min of fitful sleep total struggling to keep this little guy down... But he fell asleep in the pack n play. Look on the bright side

  • Wait their shots make them sleep less for a while?! Like how long?!
LO eats around 7/8 depending before bedtime then doesn't wake until usually 1 then every 3 hours after. Anyone else's LO have a longer stretch for the first one after putting them down for bed? I always hope she will sleep longer after that first round but never does and idk why!!
  • I just got a good 4+ hours in. Yippee, unfortunately I made a poor dinner choice, Buffalo Wild Wings and my stomach is killing me right now. Urghhhh. Baby is changed and fed again and now drifting off to sleep on my chest. I need another good stretch and this stomach ache to resolve.
  • @katyertl the first stretch for us is the longest as well. So we know if we go anywhere hence a wedding this weekend we need to be home by 1030 to catch the first stretch/most sleep.....
I don't know why the first is the longest. I wish the others were just as long.
  • @katyertl Yepp our first is the longest too! We start bedtime routine at 8 so bath (soap every other day), pjs and bottle. Usually they're asleep by 930-10 and not up until 4, and then 8. I want just one more hour in the first stretch, it would be perfect for when I return to work
  • @katyertl Both of mine were the same, long first stretch then every few hours. I go to bed with LO, even if its 8pm, because I know that's the longest sleep I will get.
  • @katyertl I hope not for long. It's really just messed with her whole schedule. We had everything going really well for a few weeks and now these shots messed everything up. She's currently wide awake talking and smiling for an hour even though she normally is asleep on and off until 10a. Ugh.

Looks like a few of us had long nights. LO was up at 12:30, 2:00 and 4:00. And I swear has been grunting non-stop.

Does anyone wear earplugs to bed?

Not yet but I did with DS.
  • Yup, up again at 5
  • @katyqv yup. From her first wake up on when she grunts like a zombie for 4 hours. I don't hear the grunting but can hear her whine/cry.

  • Maybe I'm just blaming this on the shots but forgot about the baby-hell of a 6 week growth spurt.

I don't know how you ladies do this. I was spoiled with a good sleeper from the start and now I feel like the wheels are coming off after only two nights of less than adequate sleep. You women are warriors.

I was awful to DH last night, but I was just so tired. I feel horrible about it this morning. LO wouldn't settle down without his paci and he can't keep it in his mouth. This was at 1 am and I wanted to cry I was so exhausted. I ended up sticking LO in bed with me and sleeping like that for an hour. I'm terrified of putting him in bed with us but exhaustion took over last night. I have such a love hate relationship with this pacifier!

It took me 3 hours to get LO down last night, while DH was acting like an annoyed brat and insinuating something was wrong with LO because of it, and then LO was up every hour to feed, and breathing all c crazy and grunting and now I'm up getting ready to go get his weight checked at the doctor, bawling, while DH sleeps. Nighttime blows.
  • Our witching "hour" is now anywhere from 1-5 and lasts 2 hours. Thank God for my mom last night for being here and taking him so I could get at least 2 hours. Note to self - no matter how much fun I'm having with my cousin in town it ends at 9 pm so we can get some sleep here! It's going to be a long day...

It was getting better but now it's getting worse again. :(

Last night LO wanted to eat every two hours, when we'd been at three or four hour breaks. And I couldn't get him back to sleep between 1 and 3 so I just stayed up and let DH sleep. When I finally got back in bed around 3:30, LO immediately started grunting and I burst into tears. DH talked me down and we managed to get a little sleep. Now DH has taken LO for a walk so I can get a little quiet time. Thank God for a hands-on husband.
  • LO was so cranky all day yesterday! Normally he eats around 8 am, has some awake time then takes a nap then eats around noon, sleeps a looong time in the afternoon (good nap time for me too since dd has her nap in the afternoon too) eats again around 6 stays awake and eats around 11 and then goes to bed until 3. Yesterday he would not calm down unless he was being held. Thankfully my mom came over in the afternoon and was able to hold him and cuddle with him so I could get some stuff around the house done. After she left though I got nothing accomplished because he cried and cried. The only way I could get any sleep last night was with him in bed with me (DH works nights so it's just LO and me in bed at night) so at least I was able to get a little bit of sleep in there. I hope today is better!
  • Last night was a blur. DD went down at 9:15, I went down at 10:15. The first stretch was shorter than the usual 4-5 hours. She was up just after midnight. I hate that feeding. I'm always delirious. She came to bed with us and I fell asleep nursing and woke up at 3:30, changed a poop diaper, switched sides twice and nursed again. After an hour I did a bottle hoping I could get in another long stretch. Nope, just got a blowout at 5:30. Changed diaper and pj's and went back to sleep nursing until 8, when DS woke up crying. Guess who's been on the boob since 8:20?
  • I slept from 1-4:30 last night. That is all. Put the baby back down at 6, and DH's alarm started going off every 10 minutes until 6:40 because he was "tired and needed to snooze." He went to bed at 10:30 and got up once at 12 and once at 5 to change diapers for 5 minutes each. I gave up sleeping at 6:45 in favor of breakfast...laid down at 7:30 and, like she knew, DD started stirring immediately. She then stayed awake until I broke down at 11:15 and put her in the carrier. Suddenly she won't fall asleep during the day unless she's in the carrier, which means I can't sleep when she does, because if I sit down or try to move her to the bassinet she screams.

Up until 3 weeks we were getting a 4-5 hour followed by a 3 hour and a 2 hour stretch at night, starting at 10pm. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT CHILD????? I try to keep her alert for an hour between daytime naps to help her sleep at night which used to be hard but is now super easy because she wants to be awake for 3-4 hours instead. What is going on. I actually wanted to go to work yesterday. Work. Things are getting desperate.

If she's super alert and not screaming this afternoon maybe we'll go walk around the mall. I need to get out of the house.
  • LO is over 2 wks now and I still haven't had a single night where I've slept more than 1.5-2 hrs total. OMG.
