Has anyone else just want a drink? It might be a stupid question but I was at the liquor store and there wasn't many options for me...and someone told me well what if you just boiled the booze? Does anyone know if that would really be ok to do?
Mocktails are fun until then! I went out with DH for our anniversary and the waiter ordered me a yummy mocktail with strawberry and lime, it was delicious and booze-free. There are tons of recipes online you can try, and a lot of restaurants will happily make you a non-alcoholic drink.
The recommendation is no alcohol while pregnant. In any form. I have a few friends that had a glass of wine or two while pregno, but I myself would never risk that. Mocktails are a good choice if you want to feel like having a treat.
Limeaide makes a good virgin margarita. I like Newman's Own. My friend wants to start Fajitas and Ritas and I felt so left out but remembered about the Limeaide, and I think I can cope with that for a couple of months over the summer. There will be pouting, but I'll manage.
I'm a beer a night gal but never crave it while pregnant, nor would I chance it especially in the first trimester. 9 months to live unselfishly isn't too much sacrifice it will be over before you know it.
Kopparberg do a lovely alcohol free version of their cider. Its great. Comes in the traditional bottle, looks and tastes the same. I was on it all last night as we had folk round for dinner and everyone was boozing. I didnt feel left out
As someone who loves to cook and read about cooking, I came across some information years ago about cooking and alcohol:
The conventional wisdom accepted by just about everyone in the food world is that all the alcohol you add to a dish evaporates or dissipates during cooking. It’s wrong. In fact, you have to cook something for a good 3 hours to eradicate all traces of alcohol. Some cooking methods are less effective at removing alcohol than just letting it stand out uncovered overnight.
I haven't even thought about it until I read this. Ugh, now I miss my red wine. Anyone know where they sell alcohol free wine? I didn't even know that existed.
As someone who has seen, first hand, what alcohol can do to a baby, I beg of you all, please stay away from any alcohol during pregnancy. There is not enough information to know when a baby can develop alcohol related disabilities.
I know you're probably wondering how I have first hand experience with someone who was affected. My aunt adopted a baby (16 years ago) with FAS. I've babysat several times and, of course, time spent together at family gatherings. My cousin lives in a group home now, he needs to be supervised 24/7 because he doesn't have impulse control. I have been entrusted as his guardian when my Aunt and Uncle pass away (hopefully many years down the road). However, because of my future responsibility of my cousin, I am 100% in the know of what is going on with him now.
Please, please, please think really hard before you drink any alcohol while pregnant. Please.

Any grocery store should have it in the pop/ beverage aisle. We got some for my sister at my wedding a couple of years ago.

Thanks @Ceb2015. I live in a state where they only sell alcohol in liquor stores and I've never seen non alcoholic wines in the grocery store, just cooking wines. I'll have to look.

Yeah it's the same where I live. I don't know what it tastes like, but it's worth a shot!
I just ordered virgin cocktails while out for supper and found some nice non alcoholic bubbly wine type drinks (basically carbonated fruit juices) and was good! I'd have a sip of my hubby's beer or wine if I was really craving a taste but that's it. (In third tri).
With my constant nausea I already feel like I've spent my nights hitting the bottle. I can't even imagine having any desire whatsoever for alcohol at this point.
I keep having a recurring dream that I am drinking and suddenly remember that I'm pregnant and start to panic. Glad they are only dreams! I would never compromise my baby's health for booze...but damn I miss it!! Haven't even thought about non-alc drinks...fun idea!
There is NO known safe amount of alcohol during ANY time of pregnancy. The fact is that you have no idea what the baby may have been capable of had you not drank. With scientific proof that alcohol is a teratogen, why risk it? Not to mention that often times, unless it is a severe case, you don't see the signs of fetal alcohol exposure until the child is at least school age. I have a TON of literature on it from a class I took on FASDs last semester. Feel free to message me if you are interested in reading any of it. Best rule of thumb, be selfless for a few months and don't drink. If you are struggling with addiction (not saying any of you are, but if that is the case) there are a lot of resources out there to help you stay sober at least through the pregnancy.
I don't really want it or crave it, especially now during the early weeks when I feel like crap. That said, my doctor has no issues with me having a half glass of red wine occasionally with dinner and I'm comfortable doing that, as I've done so with my prior pregnancies.

Strangest question I've answered on here
I will admit to staring longing at some woman's margarita at Chillis last week.
