What's the cutoff? I felt too old to comment in the 'young one' at 26.

This, I'm 28 and will turn 29 before baby is born.
Same here. Will turn 29 about 2 weeks before I am due!

  • I'm 28, but I definitely don't identify with the "young ones" haha! Working on baby #3 here
  • I'm 35 and will be 36 when the baby is born. I'm a first timer! As a New Yorker this feels totally normal. Most of my friends are on their first or second pregnancies and some haven't even gotten started yet. Feeling blessed to have a good career and loving marriage; a solid foundation for baby to be. Go "old" mommies go!!!
  • I am 33 and will be 34 when this one arrives. This is baby #3 for me. My oldest will be 15 in March and my current youngest will be 9 in June. I still feel young even though I was cursed with the gray gene and have had gray hair for many years now.
  • I'm 34! Will be 35 when baby's born. My last baby for sure!! Enjoying every moment.
  • Will turn 31 in march this is our second our first is 2.

  • I'll be 38 on the 9th (yikes! 3 days away) My son is almost 18 and my daughter is almost 14. I also have two stepdaughters, 9 and 6! We miscarried in September, a blighted ovum, so I'm very anxious for my first appointment to make sure everything is ok this time. Good luck to everyone, may we all have healthy pregnancies and little ones!
  • FTM at 39! We have been trying for a few years now and I am excited but would love to get over the 12 week hump. I have no real nasty symptoms except for being Soooo tired.

  • I'm 33 and will be 34 when baby arrives.  DH will be 39.  In my typical procrastination way, I came just under the wire of my DH's plead for me to have a baby before he was in his 40's.

Once while at my RE, I was expressing a lot of concerns because I am a nervous nelly.  She finally just said, "oh honey, you're young, don't worry so much"  I almost kissed her.
  • I'm 37 and first pregnancy. I tried for over a year. Was married at age 23 but used birth control and divorced him at 30. Was not meant to be. I was not ready to be a mom then and also our relationship was not totally healthy. I met Mr Right at 32, married at 35 and now feel a young 37! Except for a few grey hairs.
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
  • OMG being 35 and preg makes me feel like an old maid. Have to get all this extra testing cause I'm "old". And don't get me started on the "when the baby is 18, I'll be....". It's all just too much to take in right now. Never considered myself old til I've been told I'm too old to have a kid. Might as well just off me now!
  • Oh and it doesn't help that I feel like I'm 90!

39 now 40 when our first bambina/o arrives! Went to my first prenatal appt today 7 wks along and I'm considered "high risk" because of my age. I sure don't feel that way though! Here's to all our healthy babies!!!
  • I am 33 and will be 34 when the baby is born.

  • FTM here at 35, will be 36 when baby comes. My older sister already has 5 kids so I'm already getting a taste of what I'm sure will be a lifetime of sanctimommy BS. Ugh.

  • I'm 37, will be 38 when LO arrives. Was 31 with my first and had to go to the childbirth class for "older mothers!" LOL!
  • I'm 32, does that make me "old"?

  • I'm 35. Was 33 with my first :)
  • I'll be 38, almost 39.  You have to be over 35 to be an "old' mom.  At least medically speaking ;-)

  • I'm 35 with my first. I freaked out a bit yesterday at my OB appt when the nurse was telling me about all the tests they recomend for "high risk older moms" uhg.

try not to freak out too much.  I did that my last pregnancy.  I was 35 and "AMA" and I felt like they were purposely trying to scare me.  Everything was fine in the end.  My scariest story was at our anatomy scan.  I had declined the blood work to check for chromosome "defects."  Then at the Anatomy scan the "specialist" blurted out that our child was showing 2 soft markers for Downs Syndrome.  The specialist then pushed and pushed and practically told us that an amnio was required to ensure this information.  I refused (multiple times)  WE did agree to a follow up scan a month later and amazingly all of her "markers" had cleared up on their own and we were fine.  I wish you a H&H pregnancy and birth!

  • I'm 34 and will be 35 when the baby comes. Positive side though, we'll get to find out the gender early via genetics testing! We'll do the NIPT test which is supposedly as accurate as an amino, but it's a blood test only with no risk. That is scheduled for the 19th.
  • I'm 37 and I'll be 38 when I deliver. This is my 3rd pregnancy. I was 33 with my first and 35 with my second.

I would have had that "specialist"'s head on a chopping block. Techs aren't supposed to tell you anything about the findings - they're not doctors. That must have all really sucked.

I don't even know why 35 is still called AMA. Once upon a time when the average child-birthing age was 19 or whatever  -- yeah, sure, not a lot of data and so 35 would be old. But in the 21st century? I wonder if they medical community will ever adjust their definition. Dr. Google told me the average age of a FTM is now 30. That doesn't make 35 seem AMA to me at all.
  • I am 30 :) I'll be 31 in October

  • I got pg with my first LO at 28, delivered at 29. I'm 31 now, LO2 is due around my 32nd bday so I could be either be 31 or 32 when I deliver. Sometimes I feel "old," but in my group of friends/peers most don't have kids yet (a large number of them are still single). I think starting motherhood in your late 20's/early 30's is the new "normal."
  • Back when my mom had me at 33 anything over 30 was AMA so they have adjusted their definition somewhat.

Also, @mrspiatt NIPT blood screening is very accurate, but in no way as accurate as an amnio.  Amnio is diagnostic and can tell 100%.  NIPT has a very low false negative rate, but does still have false positives at a rate that isn't really that well understood or reported.  Whoever told you it is the same is wrong.  That said, it is worlds better than the NT scan.  (I had a very high risk assessment from an NT scan last pregnancy and I've spent a lot of time looking into testing because of it)

    BFP #1 ended with H born 2/2/13
    BFP #2 ended in loss @7weeks 10/15/14
BFP #3 due 8/21/15 *please stick*
  • 36 here! This will be my third pregnancy (also have a14 yr old and an 8 yr old). I certainly don't feel old. The concerned comments from my younger sister regarding my "advanced maternal age"were particularly sanctimonious and annoying.
  • Screw y'all!

    I AM NOT OLD!!!

31 with DS and am 33 now with #2 -- I feel old as hell.

    SURPRISE! BFP: 12/2014 - EDD: 8/13/15

We made plans and God laughed

    DS: BFP: 9/30/12 - EDD: 6/9/13

Radley Quinn was fashionably late via induction on 6/17/13

This!  Talk to the medical community on behalf of us AMA moms please!  We need a good advocate.

  • I just turned 35. I have a 4 yr old boy and an 11 yr old girl. All though my daughter thinks I'm old, I don't feel or look old. That's all that matters.

Thanks for the pep talk! I needed that. Having to deal with incompetent, rude or medical staf who are just oblivious to your feelings is the worst. Here's to wishing all of us "old moms" have safe and healthy pregnancies! With wonderful medical staff this time around :)
  • Ha! I'll deliver this baby one month before I am AMA. Irony.
  • I'm 33, will be 34 when this baby comes. #4 for us!
  • I'm 30 and this is my first pregnancy, apparently that's considered old now! :-S
  • I turned 35 three months ago. Our oldest just turned 12 this month. We also have an almost 10 y/o and 5 y/o. When this baby starts kindergarten, our oldest will be a senior in high school. Starting over, but couldn't be happier! Good luck ladies!
