Omg L just turned one and it turned her into a bottomless pit! She signs "more" when she wants food and I taught her a sign for nursing. She seriously is alternating between the two all day long! I don't even know what else to feed her! And speaking of messy... Well, she's 1 and we've been doing blw and that can certainly make a mess lol I'm also trying to cut back on nursing since we are ttc, but I feel like she's starving all the time so we've been nursing more too...
Any ideas on good healthy food for a one year old?

My guy just turned 1. We do a lot of hummus (on crackers or wheat toast), fruits, veggies, Mac n cheese with ham and peas mixed in, cottage cheese. I give him our leftovers all the time...he loves this brussel sprout fettuccine I make, chili, etc. Don't over think it, just feed her what you would eat, just perhaps cooked to be softer and of course cut into manageable pieces.
So TMI I just went to the bathroom and saw some brown spotting. I am trying not to let my brain go crazy with negative thoughts but it's hard. (I am 8wks pg if you can't see siggy.)

I know that's scary. I spotted with P. Brown usually means no big deal. Hugs.
ETA: I meant that in a comforting way. Not dismissive. I hope it came across that way.

Less messy around the 3-5 age range sounds about right.....less patience needed......ummm, when they move out. Seriously though, how trying they were depended on what meal was being served. The more they liked the meal the less trying it was. However, don't let how easy it is to handle the meals they like stop you from serving the meals they don't like as those will get easier too, eventually.

I recently discovered that a nearby library has toddler and baby story time at a day and time that I can make. So I'm currently sitting in the running car with a sleeping baby, hoping that she wakes up soon enough to attend the story time. I'm sure lots of folks are late to these in general, but how long do these things usually run?
At our library, baby storytime is about 30 minutes followed by 1 hr toddler story/craft. When I brought L, only 2 came to babytime but then 6 or 7 families showed up for toddlertime and that then included 2 more little babies. The babytime librarian told me most babies sleep through the 30 mins. Mine just nursed the whole time LOL
I cheated and bought Melissa and Doug play food for DS. Because it's faster to buy it than to make it. We got the felt sandwich kit, which he loves to put in the salad spinner. And we got the wood food slicing kit, where the food is in segmented pieces attached with velcro, and there's a wooden knife he can use to cut it. Best. Toy. Ever.
@BoothBaby So sorry about the spotting. I had this with M. I remember early pregnancy I was just so anxious all the time.
I have some mysterious rash appearing on random parts of my body since yesterday. It's really bothersome and I wish I knew what it was. Not really wanting to expose M to urgent care during flu season, so I guess I'll wait it out for now.
Also I slid down the stairs while holding M this morning which was so scary. She's fine, and I think I just have a bruised ass.
@Nikkipal82 Sorry you are having a rough day. And, mystery rashes suck. I went through that a few months ago and all they could do was put me on an antihistamine that didn't knock me out. My allergist also had some tests run to check immune function but everything was normal. I think he said sometimes the mast cells that hold the antihistamine release it for some unknown reason, and you have to wait 2-3 months for a new generation of cells to start working properly again.
When, if ever, does meal time with a toddler become a less messy and patience-trying experience?
Can I ask why it's patience trying?
In my house, when they were little, it was from one or the other complaining about what was served OR my EX's attitude getting to everyone. Btw, on the messy part, I learned with dd to just strip her down to diaper (used sposies so may need pants to protect the cd) so I could just strip off the diaper and dump the toddler into the tub for a bath. I did that for meals that I knew would require more than a simple brushing off to clean up, and a towel under the high chair/booster seat helped make cleaning the chair/floor easier too.

It's not even that he's obnoxious or picky. I just don't know why I bother giving him a utensil. His hands still go in everything, and the spoon becomes a toy. I either wind up taking away his utensil or feeding him like he's a baby. I get that he's still just 2 1/2, but it's still exasperating sometimes. DH gets really annoyed by it, so I can't even have him do supper with N so that I get a break. Oh, well. This, too, shall pass.

If you keep taking away his utensil, he'll take even longer to learn how to use it. Just give him his plate of food, a utensil and let him do whatever he wants (unless he's throwing it across the room). He's a toddler and everything's washable.
The less messy part happened around age 4 for us. Patience trying is still happening at 9. I'll keep you posted! :P
No. Please no.
I cannot stand eating meals with my children.
Ha. Mealtime is one of my favorite times. Everyone is contained.
But they're not really. I'm constantly threatening to tie L to her chair bc she won't sit still. She's backwards or sliding around or hanging off, then she and Savanna are constantly singing or screaming at each other or doing other obnoxious things that don't involve eating.

I get this. To combat it, I pick one meal per day......and not everyday......usually lunch, where I give him his lunch on a plastic plate, and a toddler utensil, and let him be. I sit where I can see him but I bump and eat instead of keeping a close eye on him. My only rules are that once it hits the floor it's gone and more can only be requested if the food was eaten and not thrown on the floor. I have noticed that ds2 is no longer immediately dumping his food on his tray since I started doing this.

Why? I know we go through a lot of bananas here (sorry TJ) but I know we'd never go through that many before they went bad so I'm assuming you have plans for them.

Bc they were there?
We eat a lot of bananas, and at that price even if we only eat a few bunches it's still a bargain. I'll freeze whatever I need to. Then there's the chickens and whoever else will eat them.
But now bc of stoney I'm afraid to eat them til they're spotty. And they aren't at all yet.
I wasn't sure if you were prepping to go on a banana bread baking binge or planning to a a monkey to your farm collection, or going to try your hand at canning banana pudding. I wasn't trying to be as judgmental as I sounded.....just being nosy and thinking you had grander plans than composting what doesn't get eaten

Just give him the utensil, whatever happens happens. I try not to make a battle out of meal time. If he eats he eats, if he doesn't he might be hungry, but he's far from starving to death. The only thing I've stared doing is taking the sippy cup away when he starts throwing it on the floor, or dumping it out (he's managed to chew holes in all his spouts and straws). I get kinda annoyed when DH starts trying to get him to eat more, clear his plate, or whatever.
We have the Melissa and dog slicing set too! V loves it! It stays at the counter so when I have food prep he can't really help with, he goes to his food set. He'll pretend Rio easy it with the yum yum sounds and everything. It's kinda making me want to get more sets. ...
I just found out that a good friend is pregnant with a boy and I'm so excited to buy things for her. She's due in July and they are big beach and boat people, so all the sailor beach bum outfits will be bought!
Friends is on Netflix?! I didn't get to watch it much when it was still on air, and I have always felt my life was missing something. Maybe now my life will finally be complete.

possibly some you're PG. Green ones are supposed to make you poop less.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.
