  • @bullybutt Congrats on the house!  I'd look into a rescue with a history with kids.  Then you don't have to worry about training a puppy with a toddler and an infant underfoot.

Also, sending bad voodoo vibes to your ex.  What an ass!
I agree with everything jnnfrrose said.
  • @bullybutt‌ congrats on the house, and agreed about finding a rescue with a history of being good with children! We have a black lab that's been great with DS.

Also, I hope Noah is with a good family, since your ex is being an ass and won't tell you anything

  • Yes, I'd much prefer to rescue but I'm scared of the dynamics that may be between them (dog and rambunctious toddler). I just have to really research and get as much info with their history prior to making a decision.

  • I'm going to starting weaning off pumping. I'm guessing that will cause my supply to decline enough that I won't be able to nurse either. I'm a little sad, but I'm ready to move on. DD does great with a bottle and formula and she'll slowly be transitioning to solid food over the next several months anyway.
Congratulations on bfing for this long!  It can be sad stopping, plus your hormones are impacted and can make you feel down.  I think it's a transition regardless when it happens.  I wasn't so successful with BFing DD and it was hard for me to share my feelings with others.  My sister is weaning at 16 months with her baby and is having an emotional time of it.  We need to be encouraged to keep it in perspective.

All ours were rescue dogs listed as child friendly and they really were/are. Do plenty of research as you say and good luck with future dog! If it helps, some people foster dogs and can give a more detailed backstory on them.
  • I just notice Night at the Opera deleted her account. Did she leave a Goodbye Cruel Bump message? I loved how fired up she would get. She seemed kind of angry for a while in her posts here.
  • Just stole my Mom's cup of soda. She made me laugh while drinking and it shot out my nose and made me cough. Karma?

WWYD? Our DCP (family friend, basically an aunt) took LO out shopping this afternoon (totally ok with us). When I got LO back, DCP said "she didn't take an afternoon nap" and " I gave her a bottle from the freezer" (we've been trying to avoid that because my supply is exact right now) "because we went out". Am I wrong to let her know that it rubbed me the wrong way? I really don't mind her taking LO out, but today felt like her needs were ignored.
I would want her to explain why she felt she needed to take the bottle out of the freezer simply because they went out.  If that's LO's normal naptime, she presumably wouldn't be hungry (and I would think she'd probably nap in the car/stroller instead).  Just reiterate you have no problem with the going out, but in the future, check with you on dipping into your stash.
  • Am I a terrible Mom if DH and I go on a 4 day cruise in Sept. And leave dd with her grandparents?

Not at all.  We went to Mexico when DS was 9 months old and left it him the grandparents. It was amazing.  We're planning on San Francisco in June (1 or 2 weeks before DD's birthday) for our nephew's high school graduation.  I've already got the grandparents lined up to take the kids and can't wait!

No! Especially when she will be that old! We don't have anyone to leave DD with to go on a vacation, so I'm extremely jealous!!

I got my first "oh...you're STILL breastfeeding?" comment. What? LO is only five months old!

Whaaat? This happens? Did you totally lose your shit?
  • @TKT17‌ , I can't believe that is happening already! I'm sorry :(

To respond to an earlier post, I am Lutheran but have been baptized, confirmed, etc. I am a godmother to a Catholic boy, but his Godfather is 100% Catholic. So I have a similar situation to pp.

  • I've had family members ask how long I'm going to keep breastfeeding, as if 5 months is a long time. My MIL will also make comments like "she hopes I'm not one of those who breastfeeds past a year because she thinks it's weird". I would love to make it to a year, and after that I'm not sure yet. With comments like that though it makes me feel like I should just automatically be done at 12 months.

I get this comment too but usually followed by a genuine "good for you!"

I'm sorry you are getting judgment for it already. :(

  • I'm guessing that teething is turning my happy baby into a hellion this last week. Up every 2 1/2-3 hours, just cries and screams in the evenings because she refuses to sleep. No temp or any other symptoms.....I have no idea how long this is going to last but I hope it's not too much longer!

  • I'm struggling with the sleep thing too. I am at a loss with what to do. I even attempted cio. I did two 3 minute intervals. Yeah I probably won't be able to do that again.

I've come down with a stomach bug and being a worried FTM I have no idea what I should take to help with symptoms (because I'm nursing). I'm also a little worried to pass it on to LO.

DH and I both came down with a stomach bug when DS was about 12 weeks. I never took anything, but made sure to keep my water intake up so I wouldn't become dehydrated. I nursed DS through the whole thing, and he never got sick! Hope you feel better and get through it quickly!

  • Dd is currently sleeping on her stomach with her face smashed into the mattress. Every time I fix her she goes back. I think this is her solution to not dropping her pacifier. Now I'm gonna be worried. Grr.

Also, I quite possibly have a scarf addiction.
    Who's with me?

Love me a good scarf. Too bad I moved to Texas and can only wear them now for like 2 months when it's not HOOOOOOTTTTT. Oy.
  • I also live in Texas, but have no less than 30 scarves. Knit, silk, shawl, circle, fleece, pompom, handmade, etc. love. Will buy. Anyone's LO starting to do a little unassisted sitting????!? I have to be right there, but he can sit a little and it's SO CUUUUUTE
Yes!  She will sit fine by herself until she finds her feet or a toy she is going after and then topples over.  She is the most content baby ever.  I put her on her belly and she will just lay there.  I put her on her back and she just lays there.  She has no desire to move unless necessary....unless I look away for a moment and then she's in a completely new spot and I'm like "how the heck did you end up over there?"

  • All you scarf lovers, what's your favorite way to wear your scarf? I feel like I look douchey when I wear mine. I need a cute way to wear them.

    We have our "Irish Twins"

    DD born 8/7/2013

    DS born 7/28/14

Are you from Texas though? Before April, the furthest south I had ever lived was Illinois...

Oh! Not quite sitting but lots of baby crunches. My LO is more like BullyButt's where if I sit her up and let go she's all good for like a hot second and then sees something and falls over.
  • On our way back from the after hours pediatrics office. DS has the flu :(. So sad he has to spend his first Christmas sick. Aside from the fever though he is still his happy smiley self. The dr said she's never seen a baby so happy with the flu.

One of these days I will remember to use the restroom before dd's motn feeding. I hate nursing and trying not to pee myself. Such a challenge!
I feel your pain. Why don't we learn?!
  • A uti for Christmas is so not what I asked for!! My second one in about 2 1/2 months so I'm beginning to think there is a problem. :weary:

  • Ugh @quinncat, sounds awful. I hope they all feel better soon.

I hope you feel better soon, too, @lowen83.

The baby STTN last night for the first time in weeks and I was up from 3-4 with gastro issues, ugh. Freaking figures.
  • Broke the bathroom light. The pullstring snapped, pinged up and the ceramic handle cracked into my knuckle which is now swollen and purple. I know it's not broken but dayum it hurts!
  • I think dd is getting a cold. I'm sure it won't warrant a visit to the doctor (I hope) but since tomorrow is Christmas should I run to the drug store and pick up cold meds to have just in case or is she too young for everything except baby Tylenol?
