Hodor 2.0!!!

Re: Hodor 2.0!!!

  • We just used to walk the dogs on concrete every day, it seemed to keep their nails filed down well. One of my cats has black nails I am so scared of trimming to far down on hers that I just clip the pointy tip off. It means trimming more often, but it keeps everyone's blood on the inside.

  • @misskilljoy I guess when I think of a "sedated dog" I think of a dog in what would be a human "twilight".

@allitor12 Dear Miss Resident vet information, I have a question about dog teeth cleaning. How often do you recommend it? My vet wants me to have our dog's done but I have put it off because we would have to sedate him and I can't lift him in the truck sedated while pregnant.

  • Wait till you all have to cut baby nails. I can almost guarantee you will cut a little skin at least once. It's the worst feeling ever... but it happens to the best of us.

Quick rant -- I am sick and tired of people staring at my bump. Like I seriously want to say, "YES, I am pregnant. Stop staring"! I don't mind when kids do it, but when a 30something or 40something girl at the mall is just staring, I seriously want to speak up. Sometimes my husband notices too and then he rubs my belly... which oddly makes me feel better.
Speaking of baby nails - I was looking at those piyo piyo scissors. I hear they have been associated with fewer "nail clipper accidents." Of course what I have are the standard safety 1st brand clippers.

As for the staring - I have just been being a big hermit and not going out for the last couple weeks - but we did go for dinner yesterday and I FULLY agree that the table of four 40-something dudes sitting in the bar fucking staring at my belly openly is creepy and rude. I stared back til they looked away. Buttholes.

NBR: anyone have any recommendations on clipping large dogs' nails. I've only done my cat, and his nails are white, and little. But it's easy to see the quick. With my pups, their nails are black and I'm nervous. We usually take them to the vet. Any suggestions?

If you bend the paw back and look at the bottom of the paw - trying to figure out a good way to describe it , flex the paw? - then you can see the underside of the nails and can sort of get an underneath visual of where the quick starts. Start by taking tiny bits off at a time. Black nails are the worst. Secret: we even have issues with them at the vet haha. If you do happen to quick your puppy pack some flour on the bleeding nail, it should help to stop the bleeding.
I usually tell my clients this too ^. Clip little bits at a time while looking at the underside of the nail. Or if you have a Dremel you can just sand the tips off. You can get them much shorter that way without worrying about chopping too much off.

I would get the pedi-paws thing. (I think that's what it is called - I always accidentally call it the pedi-file and DH reminds me that that is NOT the proper name). Anyway, one of my dogs is pretty skittish and I can use it on her. Just get them used to the noise first. It works like a charm for me!

  • I had DH take me to the mall to do laps. And I was surprised at the amount of blatant staring. It got old real quick.

Side Note 1: walking is stupid
Side Note 2: walking while wearing maternity jeans is even more dumb. WTF was I thinking!

  • @Cryssteen‌ ooo I haven't seen that kind before. We use dremels in the vet offices so those would probably work well.

@Shortstack06‌ two questions before I can tell you what our vets generally recommend: how old is your dog and what breed?

  • @allitor12‌ he will be 3 in 2 weeks and a gsd. He gets hard food only, a large milk bone in the morning and a greenie at night. His teeth are still very pearl white, but I know it is just like us going to the dentist.

I lost mine today. I seriously almost threw up looking at it. The first thing I thought was, omg I need a picture of this for D14!
  • I'm still confused as to whether I am losing mine in bits and pieces or it's just weird discharge. I'm assuming weird discharge cause I've never spotted or had bloody show...

Oh well, pregnancy is a weird thing. Lol

I also noticed the staring when we were out last night and for brunch today. It's plain rude! I would never stare at a stranger like that. It's not unheard of to be pregnant and due any day now--it's especially not a rare sight in my neighborhood in Brooklyn. There were two noticeably pregnant patrons at dinner last night within ten feet of where I was sitting.

Oh and no plug lost here either, assuming it's hard to miss.

  • @Shortstack06‌ if your dog is 3y old and doesn't seem to have a noticeable issue (broken tooth, dental grade above a 2) then I would be comfortable putting it off for a bit especially since you have all the baby things happening. A lot of vets start rec. them around 3-5yr of age to start off but are highly rec in smaller dogs earlier than bigger dogs and usually when they become seniors(5-7y depending on breeds)more so than younger. I wouldn't worry about it, right now, honestly. Your vet is probably just suggesting the gold standard - which is what they should do- but not something that HAS to be done now.

My cousin has DS, she is 23 and currently working in a grocery store as a cashier. Her sister is a FTM due in March and opted out of all the testing. I opted out as well, our decision wouldn't change either way.

I have so much respect for that. I took the tests but it was only as an "if this is a probability" thing DH and I could best prepare ourselves on how to take care of LO

  • @ladythrice - I feel like the prodromal labour has put me into such a false sense of security with painful contractions that I'm not going to know when I go into labour and I'm going to have this baby in Starbucks or something.

Yes, this! I just ignore everything now cause of this stupid prodromal labor. My water's going to have to break before I take anything seriously.

Yup. Same story with contractions. I never know what's what. Fun stuff... :-/
I'm a STM and still am clueless sometimes! Lol
  • My contractions were really noticeable at 36-38 weeks and now they seem to have stopped being noticeable. So I'm just like... Whatever, this baby is coming out this week by scheduled induction, or C section (fingers crossed it the earlier)... But I agree with how hard this is to determine. Lol

  • I feel the same way. If your mp is anything like mine was you cannot mistake it! I'm having contractions now and I'm pretty positive is the real thing this time. I feel like it's unmistakable, and the nasty stuff that is currently coming out of me is pretty remarkable too.
I was scheduled to be induced at 7 am today. Things started happening at like 2am. This child is already a brat! I'm right now just waiting until I was scheduled to go in. I'm hoping I can manage it that long.

    Dear diary,

Today is my first day of maternity leave. I can't figure out what I want to make for breakfast. I made sure the house was stacked with healthy options, but now I have too many choices, and all I really want are Hostess cupcakes, which are horrible for you and also aren't in the house.

Same here. And I don't want to get out of bed simply because I have nowhere tobe. But hungry!!!!

  • You guys are talking about getting out of bed and I'm over here thinking of ways to be as lazy as possible. Lol

  • I think most men are color blind. I have Xmas Jammies which he swears are orange. Orange is not a Christmas color. Why would they be orange. Red, dumbass!!!

  • Update: my husband might be colour blind. He also says he has blue eyes. These are not blue eyes.

Green eyes? Mine are green. You can check the eye color likelihood here: https://www.babymed.com/tools/eye-color-predictor

I have been too bored for too long...
