@mrsstanton87 DH just schooled me on wood (hah). He said they come in cords and ricks. I knew ricks but hadn't heard of cords. I'm now all edjumacated.
After 4 days in the carboy my porter is 8.5% ABV! Transferring to the secondary fermenter now. Brewing beer makes me feel like a mad scientist.
I'm picturing you in a white lab coat with beakers and weird, bubbling liquids. Please tell me that's how you brew beer.
Oh I wish. In reality it's me in gym shorts, a nursing tank and flip flops standing in my garage. My "chemistry set" is a 10gallon turkey fryer, stocking bags to seep my grains, and a 3" long plastic spoon. After its boiled the wort is transferred via giant funnel to a 7gallon glass carboy. After 4days to a week in the carboy it gets transfered via auto siphon to a bottling bucket (secondary fermenter). After a second week in there it will be mixed with more sugar and bottled. The sugar causes carbonation. Instead of more sugar you can force carbonate in a keg. I can't afford, nor do I have the space for a kegerator yet. Maybe for x-mas.
i logged in tonight for the first time in almost a month! october is such a crazy month for me business-wise, so i have been out straight for weeks now. my bumpless time has been wonderful... lots of good family time and less distraction all around, which came at just the right time. i wanted to say hi since i was making a post elsewhere and decided to pop over here to check out what A14 has been up to.
Well we just got the final word DH leaving Sunday for Idaho and Montana for 2 months. I'll be working down south at my home towns hospital whenever they give me a start date. We will be a duel income household again. I cannot wait to pay down my debt.
Twilight turtle or tranquil turtle? I can't decide. I also saw the twilight alligator which looks pretty cool but the shell/projector isn't as big as the turtle.
Yay we have to wait 3 weeks for pics but the photog just sent us one for a peek.
It's Friday! That means DH's last shift of 7 straight shifts, tomorrow I get to sleep in! Might walk to Target today and get me a Starbucks hot chocolate. Anyone have anything special going on this weekend?
Just the usual...football game road trip tomorrow, grocery shopping and house cleaning on Sunday. I have to reorganize my closet since maintenance is coming and cutting a hole in the wall to repair a leak today. I want to take B to do some fall things, but I'm not sure what. I may just make a sensory bucket for our front porch.
I didn't realize the Sophie the giraffe squeaked like a dog toy. It drives my dogs insane. Whenever kiddo drops it, it lets out a little squeak and my lab runs to it and when I yell leave it she will walk around a whine for a full minute lol
speaking of. my kids first words are going to be "goddamnit dogs" or "No! Leave it."
Ours will be "ahh-ahhh" (the dog's "no" command). And I'm also pretty sure it won't take him long to learn "hike" (to start the dog running). I am doomed when that happens.
@embear22 I went to a friends house and her dog claimed Sophie as his own! What is it about dogs and Sophie?! Lol must be the sound mixed with the baby smell.
I cannot understand why the doctors and nurses coming back from west africa are not being isolated as soon as they return. I mean, I feel like this should be common sense.
It's a voluntary thing - you're supposed to quarantine yourself at home for a few weeks. Assholes aren't following the instructions.
With a pandemic starting, it should be mandatory instead of voluntary.
@ambarnett1 when you kiddo has a food he is allergic to does he get an rash on his face, but only on one cheek? Im trying to decide whether this (small) rash on my kiddos face is from excess drool or something she ate yesterday.
Do you have pets? When our dog gets to LO and licks him on the cheek, he will break out in a small rash.
This is a possible scenario. One of my dogs got to her yesterday while she was on the floor.
His rashes pop up all over him. He has terrible eczema, so even the tiniest thing can irritate his head and face. Especially lots of drool and the dog. I would continue doing what your doing (feed her whatever you fed her yesterday) and see if there is a similar reaction.
Ebola isn't a pandemic. A few cases is not at all the same thing as an epidemic. It's relatively much more difficult to contract, as compared to measles, the flu, diseases that have truly been pandemic.
I agree, it's scary, and I don't want to hear my neighbor has it. But I do get why they can't quarantine everyone on a plane from Africa in a hospital bed. You'd have far more people dying of mundane illnesses like pneumonia because of the shortage of hospital beds than you'd see Ebola cases. And overcrowding hospitals would lead to spreading other, more contagious diseases and shittier care all around. I've worked in an overcrowded hospital during a hurricane - it's a hot mess.
Basically you don't want to react to one problem in a way that causes 12 other problems.
I agree that it's not a pandemic or even epidemic yet, but if people continue to be careless than it's going to become something bigger. I'm not saying quarantine everyone, but these doctors and nurses working with Ebola patients shouldn't fly on planes and risk spreading the disease to many people nationwide.
@dani+california You mentioned an upcoming vacation in another thread. Where are you going and what are you doing? We normally take our vacation in November but have to skip it this year for financial reasons and two new jobs. I am itching to get away so I am living vicariously through people who get to travel!!
We're heading to Sandals Ocho Rios, Jamaica! I've never been to a Sandals before, and we got a butler suite. I'm super excited! Our trips are usually backpacking for weeks or months at a time so I can't wait to be lazy and get pampered all week.
I hope you get to do something soon! Maybe a fun weekend away somewhere not too far?

I need to move to Canada. I'm doing life wrong.
I am in Canada and this is not my life
Ditto this. Only in my dreams.
Don't tell me that! I just want to blame it on my Mom for birthing me in America, not that I just suck at being awesome.
Ok let's say we are living in the wrong place in Canada - clearly we all need to move to Whitby
Dani, we went to Ocho rios for our honeymoon! We stayed at Couples Sans Souci. Have an amazing time! For kid free all inclusives I highly recommend Couples Resorts. We had a great time! However, we were pretty much the youngest people there lol
AW: Did a test run today of an announcement picture for this new LO. I'll probably redo it outside for better light and hopefully a more smiley baby, but I thought it was a cute first try . Thanks again @Vinny424 and @jodibolivar!
Been having trouble finding Bump time last few days . Its the ever important Hunting Season and my employer is so busy Im having to do some work at home to help them . LO has been slepeing through the night but of course not much naps
My kiddos urine has been having a strong odor today. So, I was googling and found that it can be either a UTI, introduction or new foods, an ammonia rash, and one person wrote that a strong odor in urine is a telltale sign of a tooth coming in. Wtf. Is this true? She has no rash and no fever. This is the reason babies and the Internet don't mix.
What the hell would that have anything to do with a tooth?! People on the internet have the crazies.
