I think someone already posted the right answer, @SoulTermination. If she's interested in China, read some books with her and find a character or specific person to dress up as. Dressing up as an ethnic group is offensive, @avidkeo, because it implies that group is less than human. White person isn't ever a costume, animals and monsters are.
I'd take it as an opportunity to learn about Mulan or Wu Zetian, the only female empress of china (first hit when I google famous women in ancient china). And then let her wear the costume. Then the kid learns a story of an interesting person she can relate to who's Chinese, instead of thinking Chinese are just "others" who dress and look a certain way.
I've never understood this. I see how painting your face black or taping your eyes or something would be offensive. But wearing a traditional garment from another culture is somehow disrespectful? I could see if she was 25 and cut holes in the boobs and made it all slutty. But it's a child!
We dress as professions and nobody says boo. I don't get it. I think we find ways to make everything offensive these days, it's so stupid.
Are you sure you're a liberal?? Those words would scare the shizit out of most progressive thinkers. And I agree 100%!
I disagree. There are definitely costumes that generalize white people i.e. cowboy and no one bats an eye. There are other cultural costumes (not race related) like skateboarder, cheerleader, ninja. I don't think dressing to represent a culture is offensive. I dressed up as an Italian pizza chef once, complete with hat and mustache. Granted, I am Italian by heritage, but I don't think it would have been offensive if I weren't
About a quarter of cowboys were black - that's not a white people thing, and not even close to having your kid trick or treat dressed up as a white person.
I really freaking hate everything right now. I'm so sick and just don't want to put up with anything. I feel like hell and I am trying so hard not to vomit. DH hasn't been terribly helpful, so I'm so worn out. I just want a break. Ugh! Okay I'm done bitching.
@ambarnett1 - Hugs to you!! It will get better really. Its hard being pregnant with a little. Wait til you have to do bathtime with a huge belly. It will all be worth in though.
In the interim - go ahead and be mad at the world. Give DH a kick in the pants because you get to blame the hormones!!! Then make yourself a nice ice cream sundae (if you can eat that is...).
Want to cry all the tears right now. I posted a week ago maybe that my boss's sister was pregnant. She just came back to work from the doctor and she had a miscarriage This is the second time she's had one and I just want to go give her a hug.
To make my day even better. The house key fell off of DHs key chain which I conveniently had today. I only went out for a frosty and now I can't get back in the house until DH comes home. Of course I don't have diapers, wipes, bottles, or formula. Awesome fucking day.

When I got locked out, I went to Tastee Freeze. Wandering target is a good option, too. Ours has a Starbucks. Plus there are baby supplies.
Yeah, I went to target and got some stuff I need. Heading to my in laws now because I do have a key to their house in my car. Thank goodness.
Ugh. I have the same metallic taste in my mouth that prompted me to take a pregnancy test last year when I got my BFP. I am trying not to freak out. My OB told me last year it was from hormonal changes so hopefully it just means AF is going to make her first appearance PP. Hopefully. Dear God please. [-O<
Terry Crews is hilarious. Have you seen his YouTube video where he has these things attached to his body and every time he flexes a certain muscle it plays an instrument. It's so funny.
OMG people! The baby's been tired but wouldn't nap all day. I left him playing in his crib while I got the toddler down for a nap. I heard some fussing but no full on cry, so I just called into the baby a few times and finished the toddler's stories.
I go in to get the baby - and he's curled up ASLEEP!!! In his CRIB!!! \:D/
Love it, and have so done that dance when my LO did it!

Hydrocortisone on LO for mosquito bites - yea or nay?
My pedi ok'd it for the heat rash on my LO's chest when he was sent home from daycare. He said as long as it wasn't more than the 1% version. However, I didn't put it anywhere that he would be able to get some into his mouth if he was chewing on a hand, arm, foot, etc.
Where are the mosquito bites?
She's got one on her forearm, one on her upper arm, and one on her forehead. Will probably leave the forearm one alone and maybe put on the other two.

So my BIL's best friend and I are facebook friends.Well about a year ago he moved to San Francisco and surely enough ended up moving back to our hometown. Before he moved he sold a lot of his furniture because him and his gf were moving in with his uncle. Well now that he's back he has no money because he didn't work, no furniture, and is back in his moms basement. He posted a status today asking on people's thoughts on him starting a gofundme account to raise money to help with moving costs and furnishing the 2 bdrm apartment that he is moving into on November 1st. He now has the gofundme set up and is wanting to raise $1500.
I'm dumbfounded. Oh and here's their gofundme message
Hey, I want new furniture too! Maybe I'll also beg my family and friends to buy me stuff since clearly everyone should have everything they want without working for it... :-w
Gofundme completely baffles me! At least DH family hasn't discovered them yet. SIL is going through a divorce right now and one of her 3 kids was taken away, causing her child support to decrease because she only has 2 of 3 kids now, he has the other. So she got FIL to give her $100 a month to help, MIL $100 and then called her brother (BIL, not DH) and asked if he'd give her $100 a month. Seriously? !? Borrowing a sum of money when you are in a tight spot is one thing, but asking for $100 a month for..forever?
ETA- she also smokes like a chimney and goes out to nice dinners monthly. BIL told her to quit smoking and then she'd have extra money.

@celticlullaby - love the gif! And yay for sleeping babies!
My DD doesn't want me to nurse/rock her to sleep anymore. She was flailing and fussing on the boob so I laid her down with her paci. She rolled right over and went to sleep. I'm happy and sad at the same time :-/

I feel like a bad bumpie. I've been totally MIA and lurking. I've done like 45 home visits over the last 2 weeks at work and it's exhausting trying to plan them all around my pumping schedule!

Today was a good day. Grandma is feeling much better she's writing on her dry erase board (thanks for the suggestion!!) trying so hard to talk. She moves to the rehab part of the hospital tomorrow and is estimated to be home in 3 weeks. Doctors are shocked and delighted for an 89 yr old woman. Her speech is still gone but they are hopefully speech therapy will help. I am so thankful for your positive thoughts and prayers RTT I appreciate it so much:)
I went to the hospital after work and came home to reports Chase was grumpy all day. He was all smiles when I got home and fell asleep on me without a fight.
And I have tomorrow off:)
I needed today!
I'm so glad she's healing well! And glad the dry erase board is helpful. T&P she continues to heal and will not need it anymore
I know a girl who did a gofundme in the name of getting school clothes for her kids for this school year. She had thyroid cancer last year and had it removed and is cancer free now. So she posted her recovery pics from last year (think gross drainage) and wrote a sad story about being a single mom cancer patient. She used the money to go on a weekend get away with some friends, a gym membership, and some Starbucks shit.
My husband saw that my avatar is a picture of us, and he was interested to know how many of you think "he's a hunk." 8-| :-j (And he wanted me to tell you that he was joking after I told him I was going to tell y'all.)

I need some makeup advice (I'm looking at you @dani+california). I have developed new mom under eye bags. They are usually hidden by my glasses but I have an event Friday and I don't plan on wearing glasses. Best way to conceal them? I have Juice Beauty concealer which is fine for day to day wear but this a fancy event so I want to look good.
I know I'm new, but thought I could suggest something. My go to under eye treatment is eye bright by benefit. It's a little pricey but lasts a long time!
@eme520 I'm a family service worker for our local Head Start. I have 60 preschoolers and their families on my caseload. :-) I love my job and generally love home visits too, just wish we had more time to do them.
@dani+california I'm good otherwise, lady! Thanks for asking. Contemplating ferberizing the baby soon, his 4-5 wakeups are killing my soul.
Speaking of ferberizing, has anyone seen that Modern family where Cam and Mitchell are sleep training Lily? Love it.

@dani+california thank you! Face swap has given me way too much entertainment lately! Super freaky but also fun to do with family members to see similarities. The cute and the creepy:
Seriously everyone the app is totally worth the 1.99! Or I am just super bored...

Considering cancelling Comcast and getting Hulu Plus. But I will miss having HBO...does anyone know how I can watch HBO without having cable??
Before we got our ruku we watched Netflix, Hulu plus and HBO go all online and just had the tv hooked up to the computer. Now that we have the ruku we use that interface. We do use our in laws att u verse login to watch HBO go, maybe you can have a friend who has HBO lend you their login?
Our cable provider just got rid of all the Viacom channels: the Nickelodeons, MTV, Comedy Central, and a few others. I want to get rid of cable so bad, but DH thinks paying $120+ a month for ESPN is worth it. Ugh.
I wish I could work a four day work week. I took Tuesday off, brought B to daycare and cleaned the house for 7 hours.
We have 6 month/fall pictures tomorrow. I'm super excited since her "school photos" weren't great and the cheapest package was $169.
@mommyofmac I love the Ergo. There's a new one called the 360 that looks awesome. @Teresa1896 I have had 6 home visits this week all squeezed into the time between dismissal from school and picking Blaire up at 5, so I feel your pain. Last night I did a quick drop off with her dad and did another from 6:30-7:30. It's been brutal for pumping. I've ended up engorged a few times this week and pumping and eating in the car sucks!
