Yes, it only has to do with Will. There is a bill up to change it a bit for kids like Will. It's not like he will ever not be disabled. It really prevents kids with intellectual disabilities from contributing to society since they can't get paychecks and make money for the risk of losing their benefits. He will always need some sort of government assistance since he will never be fully independent but he should be allowed to take care of himself however much he can.

Oh and I should clarify that he doesn't get any assistance now because he is under our income. At 18 he will get social security income. So I guess we could have a savings account for him right now it would just have to be empty by the time he's 18. I don't think it would affect his Medicaid bc it's not income based.

Right, I'm not saying he can't work. I'm saying he can't save any money or retain. It is very limiting. @Bsouls - I actually work with ssi, so I know the details, but I appreciate you providing it. Granted, I said the wrong limit, so you wouldn't know that.

Also, his Medicaid has nothing to do with income. He gets Medicaid Tefra, which is non-income based for children with disabilities that need institutionalized level of care. We have to apply for SSI as part of the process, but get the Medicaid despite being denied by SSI. He will transition to traditional Medicaid when he is an adult. Because he has Medicaid, he automatically qualifies for WIC, which covers his individual food needs (currently 10 cans of formula a month).

Gotcha. Well I appreciate it! We immediately rewrote our will to have a special needs trust. My partner handles all the probate and estate planning for the office and he was telling me the same thing as you. That people always assume a sibling will take care of the SN child and then it doesn't happen. So sad.

This is basically the same situation my sister has ended up in in Canada. She has some severe physical disabilities and is in a wheelchair. But she can't work a regular job because she'd lose her benefits and there's no way she'd be able to afford the things she needs if she doesn't have benefits.

It really does need to be changed.

Effing step MIL shared my 5 month photo album (she thinks she has but she really hasn't based on my settings). But still. She hasn't seen LO in 3 months. I know we complain about this all the time here but it still infuriates me every. Single. Time. I'm blocking them next time and I don't even care if they find out. DH used to get pissed off but now seems to be trying to let it go and I'm sitting here stewing like a crock pot. I've gotten mostly over them not caring enough to come see her but it drives me nuts they think they have any right to share mympoctures like doting effing grandparents.

I was thinking the same thing with Layla. It seemed like we were turning a corner and then last night was awful. But she has a tooth poking through, so I'm hoping that's it.

I've also decided to stop thinking of her as a terrible sleeper, but instead to think of her as a baby who loves her mom so much that she can't go too long without seeing her.

It helps me feel a little better about being sleep deprived.

I just pulled another dozen sleepers out of LO's dresser that are too short for him. DH keeps losing track of what has been outgrown so he just puts all the clothes away. Then I go pull out what's too small.
Now I have to find the larger pjs and such so LO has something to wear to bed this week.

Isla woke up at 330 last night crying. I was trying to sooth her, but nothing was working. I put her on my bed to grab her blanket, and she fell right asleep. Joe always says she likes our bed best.

@bennieangel‌ I'm sorry you're still not getting great sleep. My H sleeps through the night and it's always me up to do the feeds/diaper changes (always 3 times a night) so I feel your pain. I hope he is back in your room soon so that you can nudge him and try to sleep through the soothing when he is on paci duty.

I was just putting LO down when a neighbour revved his motorcycle engine then took off down the street.
He also does that at 6:20am when he's heading to work.

I need to live where there are no other people. In the middle of a large field...or forest.

I got the questionnaire either just before DS1 was born or shortly after.
There was a space to say why you'd be unable to fulfill the duty. I replied baby - breastfeeding (or whatever the option was).
I've never heard another word.

Regarding the SAHM exemption. ... My mom was a SAHM and she was called for jury duty several times when I was growing up. I doubt she did it before we started school, but I definitely remember her being called 5 or 6 times while I was a student.
She sat on a murder case, an abuse case...

But I live in Ontario Canada so rules may be different where you are.

I got out of it for being the kids primary caretaker was how it was worded on the questionnaire.

This. I also mentioned I was exclusively breastfeeding. They sent me back a letter saying I was excused due to "extreme hardship." Interesting way to word it, but at least I got excused.

I got one last month and I believe it specifically said primary caregiver to a child or breastfeeding was not an exemption but I could postpone up to a year for any reason. So I couldn't get out of it all together but I could postpone for a year anyways. Did that make sense?

Thanks for all of the responses about potential jury duty. In my state the only automatic excuses you could choose were for being over 70, being a volunteer firefighter, or having served on a jury in the past two years.

I'd actually be interested in serving eventually but I don't think the court would like it much if I needed a 20-30 minute pump break every 2.5 hours.
