  • @Dani For some reason, the banana thing made me laugh. Poor little dude just wanted his banana back. :(

Re: popcorn poop. I'm baffled by the buttered popcorn connection. I've never thought that BF poop smelled awful (at least not compared to toddler poop -- holy hell, that stuff is TOXIC), but not good or popcorn-ish either. Luckily I think DD's just about ready to potty train.

@SarahL2P I used Baby Move with DD. I found it in the pharmacy section of a grocery chain. It's a prune concentrate and it just took a mL or two in her formula if I'm remembering correctly. It's intended for use in babies 6 months and up though. I know a lot of A14 babies are nearing that age already, but just throwing it out there.

Also have you guys read this? About 11 airliners missing. I have not seen it on any American news. I feel like this should be reported and not naked celebrity photos. https://freebeacon.com/national-security/missing-libyan-jetliners-raise-fears-of-suicide-airliner-attacks-on-911/

That is kinda terrifying. ISIS, Ebola, Russia, I'm overwhelmed by thing to worry myself to sleep at night...AND 200oz!!! I'd be so pissed. I'd take advantage of my free lawyer, 200oz is a lot of work. Where was it going?

  • Bed sharing gets way to vilified. Statistically speaking the safest country for a baby to sleep in when comparing SIDS rates is El Salvador (when accounted for pop size), which has one of the highest rates of bed sharing. It is also the poorest of the 50 countries the particular study looked at. China and India either did not collect for divulge SIDS stats to researches. So out of 50 countries studied the USA had the most deaths at 2300 annually the most of any country. But again when we account for population size it actually makes it #45, which is still shitty.

  • I was coming home the other day and I turned down my road and it was wet in one lane. The lane I needed to drive in. Wellll, it was wet from the manure wagon that had driven down the road before me. I had no choice but to drive through the mess. Dear Lord, it has taken me 4 days and 3 car washes to get the smell off! Liquid pig poop is not a nice smell to drive around in! I drove through the automatic car wash again last night and I think it's finally gone. I bet I left a foul smelling cloud as I drove around.

That's probably a health hazard! How was it getting all over the road?! That is disgusting. There isn't a worse smell on earth, cow shit smells like roses next to pig shit.

  • Anyone's LOs move around non stop? I don't remember what my other two did, but this girl kicks, hard and frantic, NON STOP. if she is awake her arms and legs are all over the place and when I'm holding her she will almost jump out of my arms! When I was pregnant it was the same way and I was miserable. Is this normal? I'm so worried about when she starts walking, I will have to get one of those backpacks with a leash! Is this normal?! It's like she's on crack.
This exactly. FIL thinks it's abnormal but everyone else that's seen the kicking said he's just a happy, energetic baby. Pedi wasn't concerned either but I'd love to hear others thoughts on this. I'm just praying we don't have the makings of a hyper child!!
Mine kicks up a storm too. Especially at diaper changes. He's a little over 5 months old. Could be something developmentally.

    <Runs to Wonder Weeks App>

Apparently we're in the midst of the leap concerning relationships, including distance, and realizing his world is very big and he's small.

I can see that about the distance thing. She has to see where I am at all times, if she lets me put her down at all! I can't get anything done. If I go around the corner she just loses her damn mind, and once she can see me she smiles. I'm sure my husband thinks I'm lazy as hell when he has to pick up the slack but I honestly cannot get ANYTHING done.

I don't know about kiwi land but very little has changed here in the USA in the 10 years that this was written. The SIDS rate still remains too high. I think a little bit of it may also be mislabeling of SIDS by medical examiners. For example we had a baby brought in code white. The baby was covered in blood, it was horrible. The baby had been in bed with mom, dad and a toddler. EMS said there was blood all over the room, we didn't have much to go on as the family spoke no English. CPS dropped the case after visiting the home site. The ME called it a SIDS death. I completely disagree.

  • My LO is also an out of control baby ninja wannabe. I am always surprised by how hard he can kick. It legitimately hurts! I hope we are not in for it once they start moving independently, but I'm thinking child proofing is going to be important around this house!
  • The scrap metal guy said he's picking up a lot of stuff from people leaving the valley. Maybe the central valley will be the next great ghost town? All my crap is gone now. He gave me $20 for helping him load the junk. One step closer to being moved.
  • Why do all Disney characters have fabulous singing voices? Even the villains... There needs to be some nails-on-a-chalkboard princess representation!

  • I've always wondered how much reported is actually SIDS and how much is other stuff...  It seems like a nicer way to place the blame on something "unknown" rather than blame the parent who is dealing with the loss of a child.

Obviously I know there are many cases that they don't have a cause for, but a local girl that we knew lost a child to SIDS, when in reality she took a nap with him and he suffocated.  She was not all there, and was taking a drug-induced nap with him when this happened, but I think being told it was her fault would have sent her over the edge.  So, it was SIDS.  Not a super accurate for all the reports you read, and the fear they put into new parents...

My friends lost their 2.5yo -- he threwup while sleeping and apparently didn't roll over as a toddler normally would and asphyxiated.  It was still classified as SIDS.

  • SIDS scares the ever living fuck out of me. Some mornings DH gets up with the baby and lays her down between us. Our bed is really puffy and she rolls towards him because he's heavier than me. I don't sleep at all after that, checking to make sure he doesn't roll on her. I keep telling him to stop doing that. We never did bed sharing mostly because my SIL did and her kids wouldn't sleep in their own beds until they were much older. Her husband had his own room for about 10 years! No thanks. @poru, that is awful about your friend. My heart breaks for her, that is one of my biggest fears.

  • These 12m pants give Ryver camel toe. Does this mean they're too small? I'm tempered to take a picture but if she finds it later in life it might be horribly embarrassing?
  • Must be the day for poop-splosions. The problem with the baby in the 12m cloths is that they are all shirts and pants. So since I had to drag the poop covered shirt through her hair we got to take an early shower. And best part is the poop angel she made in her crib as she did a 360 in it! Haven't had a poop-splosion in so so long.

that's so sad, and yes I agree with you about mislabeling. Here anything where an infant dies that's not NAI pretty much gets put down as SIDS - even situations when mum has drunk so much she passed out and smothered baby in their sleep gets put down as SIDS. That's not a SIDS death, there is an explanation for that. So terrible and it does happen.

@poru that's so sad. Oh god. I just have to keep reminding myself that it was a freak thing, otherwise I will never sleep again.
Every time I start freaking about SIDS I try remind myself that statistically only 0.05% of children born each year die of SIDS, and most of those have something else happening as well, such as parents who smoke. The bed sharing thing I don't believe is actually SIDS as I said above. Quoting the NZ SIDS prevention website "The average incidence of SIDS in New Zealand, as in many other western countries, is now about one in two thousand live births"

Last year there were 58,717 babies born in NZ and only 44 died of SIDS - and I know at least one of those was a smothering situation.

It is pretty devastating and its also one of those things that get so over reported that it causes everyone to panic about it, when the reality is its not that common.

    I hope that helps a bit - I'm a bit of a statistics freak...
